Kojima wanted to open MGSV with ‘Diamond Dogs’ by David Bowie

Originally, Kojima wanted to open Metal Gear Solid V with the song ‘Diamond Dogs’ by David Bowie. Diamond Dogs is, of course, also the name of the new mercenary unit formed by Miller and Snake, after the destruction of Mother Base and MSF in Ground Zeroes.

However, Kojima’s team was against this idea. Maybe it didn’t fit the tone of the game well enough.

But who knows, you might be able to find a cassette tape with the song for your Walkman in The Phantom Pain.

Come out of the garden, baby!
You’ll catch your death in the fog
Young girl, they call them the diamond dogs

It’s a really cool song, but I assume that the vibe of the song wouldn’t match up with the violent hospital scene. Who knows, maybe he’ll use the soundtrack for a different scene.

I think his team made a right decision. This song won’t work BUT there is one song that is super perfect from Diamong Dogs Album for MGSV. :D

    I WANT IT!!!!

    • William of Orange

Lol, you want to listen to Rebel Rebel during the introduction? I’d prefer space oddity or even let’s dance from 1983.

      • Golgari

I Want Space Oddity. It is perfect for the introduction but it is not Diamond dogs album so dunno but Space Oddity is my favourite David Bowie song.

  • No Place For Hayter

I hope they use it somewhere than because I probably would have loved that. When a song strongly stands out, whether it be good or bad always creates a very unique atmosphere and scene. Though I have no idea what the specifics were so I can’t have any input on whether or not he should have put it in, but Kojima’s team usually has the right input when it comes to Kojima’s ideas and work.

oh my god. oh my god. oh my god. i am so freaking excited for this now. I LOVE DAVID BOWIE

  • Janeo

Yeah diamond dogs really doesn’t seem like it would fit at at all be good to find it as a collectible for your Walkman though

  • marko

i have been hearing a lot of this leatly, kojima is making some very bad ideas and it is a good thing he has his team there to set him ona right path

    • glitchbomb

What other things have you been hearing that were “bad ideas” that his team corrected?
Not trying to be contrarian, i am honestly curios.

      • marko

Like removing the !! sign, killing Solis Snake, aresting them at the end of the Mgs2 i think… maybe if u listen to his interviews, past and present u will know.

        • glitchbomb

Listen, I was trying to be nice, you fucking mouth breather. I already know about the past occurrence, I was under the impression you actually might have had relatively new information.
Silly me, thinking you might know something new when you can barely spell.
          :D

            lol

It’s a good song but it fits a series like JoJo a bit more. They could still open TPP with the song.

  • George Sears

Gonna import it in the Walkman.

  • prothy

If the scene is really, really banal it makes it more memorable and realistic. Who knows what and why were they listening on the Walkman?

Maybe they should add it to GZ like they added music in mgs4. Ps4 players got the best looking version but one you can’t add any music to.

Kojima could just let Snake play it on his Cassette player while on a helicopter ride back from a mission as it introduces his return to Mother Base if we’re on a mission prior to being shown the brand new place.

It sounds like a Helicopter-ride song… Like, I can visualise it, its sunny out, the hatch open and Snake looking out of it with the song playing and everythings cheerful before things turn to shit? lol

Ashes to Ashes is the obvious pick – it’s from ’80, it hits the right musical vibe for waking up from a coma, and the lyrics are such a perfect fit for Snake –

    “Strung out in heaven’s high
    Hitting an all-time low”

Isn’t this the central theme of the game? A fallen cold war hero disowned by his country, hitting an all-time low in Outer Heaven? It would be a major miss if Kojima doesn’t use this song!

it was dropped in a place where what else would happen?
