Kojima talks about the new MGSV: The Phantom Pain trailer

In about a week from now, on June 10, a new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer will debut at E3. Many fans are anxious for more after playing Ground Zeroes. Kojima said on Twitter:

I bet people’s wondering what’d happen to Snake & his team after playing GZ. What will this free sneaking mission be like in TPP under the circumstances of time & climate change and much broader map. The E3 trailer should give you a hint.

Metal-Gear-Solid-V-The-Phantom-Pain-E3-2013-Punished-Snake-2

People who spent tons of time playing PW would have been lost a lot after playing GZ just like Snake & Kaz had been or maybe more. This is not like watching movie, you’re no longer onlookers, something you can only feel by playing the game. After GZ, I bet people are suffering from the phantom pain. And here comes TPP.

Kojima has been working on a new trailer for a while, completingΒ the final mix last week. Now, all that’s left to do is wait for June 10th.

    KUWABARA! KUWABARA!

    • The Solid Grape

      What a wonderful scene!

  • Ravenous

Is it just me, or does he make it sound like we can do the GZ mission over in TPP or atleast return to Camp Omega at some point in TPP?

    • RevolverBosscelot

In the Red Band trailer, when the soldiers tortures the POW’s, the location looks a lot like the cages where Chico was held, so i suppose you can return. A cool thing would be if Camp Omega actually became a temporary “Mother Base” for MSF in TPP, from where you could access missions and the like.

      • Batzi

That was Camp Omega in the red band trailer.

        • Ravenous

Hmm..I thought the Red Band trailer contained both GZ and TPP footage since you can find the prisoner execution scene in Eliminate The Renegade Threat in GZ Oo

          • Batzi

It contained scenes from GZ & TPP but that scene that shows waterboarding was from TPP and the location was Camp Omega.

          • Ravenous

What? How do we know that it was from TPP? They might just have decided that showing the guards waterboarding a prisoner just for the heck of it might have gone alittle too far for GZ or something?

          • Kevin Kerr Music

            I’m sure it’s from TPP.

There are however another few odd scenes in the trailer. Such as.. snake looking out the chopper (before having a horn) but cut up looking.

            OK let me explain better..
We all know in TPP snake wakes with the Horn.

So this scene is pre TPP.
but in GZ snake has never appeared “cut up”. Except from the main menu AFTER GZ ends.

There is a short clip in the E3 trailer where snake is looking out the chopper cut up.
This HAS to be between GZ ending and the coma.

The obvious counter argument is “they took it out from the game”
            but that is void.

Because in the same trailer he still doesn’t have those cuts at the scene directly after it. (Kaz hitting the chopper wall).

there is another chopper scene between GZ and TPP. It wasn’t took out because it is something completely different.

Snake must survive the crash and get on another chopper with those cuts (and the menu even suggests it. As that is the only time snake has those cuts. AFTER the chopper crash).

Maybe the main menu (after completing GZ) is snake in this new chopper. And THAT is how TPP starts.

Also they seem to be walking on motherbase after Snake Rescues Kaz.

          • Batzi

Snake looking out the chopper was taken out from the final game. That scene took place either right before the chopper landed at Mother Base or before the chopper crash.

According to Kojima TPP starts from the hospital scene where Dr.Marv walks in after being called by the nurse upon Big Boss’ awaking from the coma. Between GZ’ ending and the coma there was nothing that had Big Boss involved in anything, at least not while he’s conscious cause he was unconscious the moment he fell in a coma.

          • Kevin Kerr Music

Kojima can lie. He has and he will. It makes surprises better.

But the reason that can’t be true is we have seen plenty of chopper scenes (which we can now confirm being in GZ) from before and after seeing this “looking out” clip. Snake has NEVER had that bloodied skin on him. So it was never there to begin with to be taken out.

Any GZ chopper clip we seen snake was completely uncut. So it can’t have been before the crash.

          • Ravenous

Agreed, the scene where he’s got all the wounds HAS to be after the “crash” in the end of GZ, which i’m kinda convinced didn’t really happen because 1. How would anyone survive a midair collision between two choppers, and 2. How could Big Boss be the only one fished out of the sea by a rescuechopper when Kaz, probably Chico and most likely the medic/Ishmael survived the same crash and were in the same chopper. 3. How can Big Boss possibly have his face all torn up and bloody before the explosion that caused it happened. 4. If you look at the last few frames of the choppercrash you’ll see that Big Boss’s chopper has more altitude and is tilting somewhat towards the chopper below making it look more like they are going to crash and finally, how can the “horn” be lodged in Big boss’s skull and coma happen because of the choppercrash when they can’t have crashed if Big Boss is standing in the door of an obviously not crashed into helicopter reflecting on wtf just happened with his face full of blood, burns and wounds when he’s supposed to be comatose after the bomb and crash? πŸ˜‰ In a long coming conclusion to my overthinking and miserable logic: there is a gap between the ending we saw of GZ and the beginning of the trailer for TPP that we have absolutely no idea of what is going on other than the fact that it leads to some screwed up s%#t that ends with BB in a come with a rather big piece of debris logded in his skull πŸ™‚

          • Datguy8923

The only reason Big Boss can survive a midair chopper collision is because he’s effing Big Boss. That’s why. :O

          • Batzi

There was no shrapnel/debris on his forehead when he went in a coma. At least it’s not visible from what we’ve seen so far.

And if the crash didn’t happen, why not show what really happened? What’s the point of keeping it secret? It’s called “Ground Zeroes’ for a reason, and Kojima said on multiple occasions that the end of GZ will show how Big Boss ends up in a coma and why Kaz & Big Boss seek revenge in TPP!

          • Ravenous

Why not show what happens? Would be alittle strange with two big explosions straight after eachother, and what better way to end GZ’s story than cutting to black before the actual event, thereby leaving some room for interpretation of what happened? I mean, Kojima has done this before with MGS2’s Ending.
I’ve tried to spot debries in BB’s forhead in the hospital scene, but there’s always an arm or lower back in the way, much the same way that the medics face is covered by the interior structure of the chopper so you can’t see if it’s a familiar face, so I kinda lean towards Kojima hiding those things on purpose to give us something to argue over XD

And what better way to kick up hype and make sure that people will want to find out what actually happens in TPP than to make sure that there’s some conflicting opinions of what happened and how the story goes on πŸ™‚
I think that TPP will begin with a cutscene showing some small fragments of GZ’s story as a small recap, and then proceed to show the “crash” from some other angle, choppers manage to evade, og the other chopper clips the landing-gear of BB’s chopper, the main rotor breaks and it goes down or something, and then….something..maybe Skullface or someone manages to ambush BB’s chopper when the try to land or something, I don’t know πŸ™‚

Oh, and the reason for revenge that Kojima was talking about? I personally think that BB and Kaz will seek revenge because of what Skullface did to Chico and Paz, MSF and the fact that Kaz somehow ends up as a prisoner i Afghanistan, tortured to the point where he ends up losing half of one leg and an arm. Not so much one single event, but the entirety of their completely screwed up situation and their growing hatred of Skullface and Major Zero.

          • Ravenous

Actually check out 14:10-14:20 in this link ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_719328&feature=iv&list=PL6Ca1d0AQcv0a-mdV4Z2MYHjHsgWcb4gq&src_vid=L7PfWfw1Xao&v=uAaCwz-Q36M ), and it actually looks like there is NO debris in BB’s forhead, and that whatever causes the debris to get there happens AFTER the hospital scene where the doctors actually say loud and clear that “it took too long…he’s in a coma”…which seem to indicate that we have no idea how TPP really begins..

          • Tairetsu

by that logic we would also have to asume that the whole scene where they are triying to resurrect Big Boss was also cut out

          • Ravenous

What? I might not have made it clear, but i very strongly believe that the scene where BB is standing in the chopperdoor with wounds and all happens AFTER the supposed crash and therefor before he is lying on the hospital-whatever between Kaz and Ishmael/Kojima slipping into the coma, meaning that something entirely different than the bomb+”crash” has to be the reason he’s in a hospital…unless he’s feeling good enough to stand without support in a moving helicopter and then suddenly has a seisure or something

          • Tairetsu

yeah im fairly sure its not PazΒ΄s bomb that gets him into a coma.

Unless that is just a scene further down the line in wich you can still wear the sneaking suit because lets face we will be able to change suits, but I dont think so

          • Batzi

1- The scene was not anywhere in GZ.
2- Kojima has shown that he’s willing to take the risk.

          • Ravenous

Which would make it TPP footage in my opinion πŸ˜‰

          • Kevin Kerr Music

You know.. I never actually thought about it this way.
How the fuck do 3+ members of a dual chopper crash survive. (Snake, Kaz and assume medic is Ishmael).

Plus the crash was only 100% implied. We never seen it happen. The choppers could have narrowly missed and Morpho could have hit the water rather safely.
Which Also backs up this theory.

I’m certain they didn’t suffer a horrible coma inducing crash just then. Then whatever else happens causes it. Then they end up in hospital.
Begin phantom pain gameplay hospital scene.

          • Ravenous

Actually check out 14:10-14:20 in this link ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?a… ), and it actually looks like there is NO debris in BB’s forhead, and that whatever causes the debris to get there happens AFTER the hospital scene where the doctors actually say loud and clear that “it took too long…he’s in a coma”…which seem to indicate that we have no idea how TPP really begins..

          • Kevin Kerr Music

I’ll check out tomorrow when I can. But that is actually another very obviously point I have mentioned afew times that noone seems to care about.
It really doesn’t look like there is any sort of debris there early stages of the coma.

Too many people just think “Kojima said this. This is all that matters”
Realistically. If you wanted a major surprise opening to a game with this much hype.
Would you tell the world in advanced you are lying?

            However,
I am still fairly certain this punished snake isn’t the real BB. I think it will be a new clone of some sort.

Pythonselkan gets a lot of shit for his theory videos but there is a lot of good stuff there if you are willing to open your mind a little. Which sadly many fans are not.

        • JGPliskin

This was allready disscussed in the MGS Forums. I and some others Analyzed the Scene. The Conclusion is: The Chopper crash won’t happen. The Scene where Big Boss looks out the chopper in the trailer, takes clearly place after GZ. He has exactly the same wounds he got from Paz’ explosion. Nothing more nothing less. They avoided the crash! That is because the chopper snake is in, ist the same one they got away in from mother base ( check the number on the chopper). This and the fact he has the exact same wounds he got from the explosion, just leaves room for one thing: the crash never happens and Big Boss got his debris somehow after all this but before the hospital scene. I mean how the fuck would somone rescue them in the fucking middle of the sea after a helicopter crash. No one would survive that. Not the crash and clearly not beeing out in the sea after a halicopter crash! They would Die in the crash or drown. (We also made a lot of pictures to proof this “theroy”, which isn’t even a theory. THIS WILL HAPPEN! There is no other pissibility, except if kojima just does some fucking insane things again)

          • Ravenous

If you check the hospital scene from the trailer you’ll see that there appears to be no debris at the point where Kaz asks the doctors how he (BB) is doing, so either Kojima is messing with us, or BB’s debris comes at an even later point than the coma he ends up in at that hospital.

          • JGPliskin

You got a point, but how is he supposed to get the debris while he is in coma?
I just noticed that in he GDC 13 trailer the debris is closer to his eye then in the E3 trailer, where it is much higher. That means they changed BB’s model, could it be that at the time they made the hospital scene they didn’t even plan about him having the debris?

          • Ravenous

Doesn’t it seem alittle weird that such a big “facial feature” was added inn that late in development? Ofcourse it’s a possibility, but this is Kojima we’re talking about πŸ˜›
I for one think that the horn is a result of some other event, because in the Moby Dick Studios trailer we can’t actually see the horn, but the bandages bulge out enough for it to be plausible that the horn is there, but we don’t know that it takes place in the same hospital πŸ˜‰ the British flag on the wall and the map of Greece suggests that the TPP trailer atleast starts out in a British militaryhospital located in greece, but we have absolutely no idea where the hospital-scene from GZ ending and GDC-trailer takes place…and how does it make sense that BB, Kaz and the medic/Ishmael get transported all the way from the carribean sea to the south of Europe to be hospitalized, that’s halfway around the world πŸ˜‰

          • Kevin Kerr Music

I still really think Python Selkans new clone videos holds A LOT of merit.
Yeah it might not be right on the money. But to me the new snake just CAN’T be big boss. There is too much suggesting otherwise.

          • Ravenous

Such as the player character waking up and the nurse saying something a can’t explain away as anything other than ‘Ishmael’, the green eyes in the red band trailer and all of the scars that look like plastic surgery scars? I agree PythonSelkanHD’s videos are quite awsome, and they have some merit, but like they say themselves, it’s all just theories πŸ™‚ have you seen the one about BB’s shadow in the hospital? Kinda creeped me out alittle XD

          • JGPliskin

There came something in my mind, maybe he gets the debris short before he wakes up? Why else would he have a bandage on his head? It doesn’t make sense to have his head bandaged for 9 years, so something has to happen in the younger past before he wakes up. Also he has no other bandages, just the one on the head. Isn’t that strange?

          • Kevin Kerr Music

            Makes perfect sense.

His comatose body was probably moved to the hospital we see in TPP. Then after that all sorts done to him (if we assume cipher had his body). Such as cloning attempts etc.

Or they got attacked recently and BBS body got hurt.

But he definitely shouldn’t still have those bandages on. Same with Ishmael.

Also JGplisken I left another reply for you (but it’s mid comments) need to scroll up a bit to see it. Incase you over look it.

          • JGPliskin

          • Ravenous

Makes alot more sense than the doctors going: Doctor 1 “I can’t stop this bleeding!!” Doctor 2 “hmm…looks like this rock would fit nicely in that wound, why don’t you try that?” Doctor 1 “…well i’ll be damned”
In any case, I think there’s gonna be a sorta lengthy cutscene before the gameplay in TPP, or alot of flashbacks to explain all of this once we rescue Kaz in Afghanistan

          • Kevin Kerr Music

            Bwhahahaha xD

          • Kevin Kerr Music

Also I just want to add, I noticed something when watching GZ again.

You actually SEE those cuts and blood burn into snakes skin during pazs explosion. So its proof that the injuries where infact from Pazs bomb.

Watch the ending cutscene, as snake is blown away watch his forehead. You see the blood burn in in the exact same spot.

          • RevolverBosscelot

Just to breathe life in this thread again (I found it fairly interesting), the man Kojima himself has stated that Big Boss only ends up in a coma once, and this happened after Zanzibar Land.

So unless Kojima is planning to change our entire perspective of the series with TPP, it is possible that Big Boss never actually entered the comatose state. This opens up for a window of 9 years, in which he could get the shrapnel stuck in his forehead, and be sent to the hospital again.

Of course this doesn’t explain any of the scenes from the trailer where he wakes up in the hospital… Dang it! Good ol’ Hideo better have an awesome explanation!

          • JGPliskin

I remember that Kojima said BB went in to coma once and this was from 75 to 84. He stated that because in the englisch version of mgs1 was an translation error which said that he was in a coma at about 72, when the dna for the clones was gained. but this coma just doesn’t exist in the timeline. What you mean isn’t really a coma, this is the point where his body was kept alive after snake “killed” him in mg2. so no real coma. The coma Kojima means is the in TPP.

          • RevolverBosscelot

That would make sense, and i agree about the translation error about the coma in ’72.

Do you have a link for when Kojima said that the only time BB was in a coma was from ’75 to ’84? I only remember him saying that he was in a coma once, and TPP’s ending would explain how. This sentence is a mystery in itself, because why would we need to watch the ending of TPP in order to understand when he was in a coma, since this happened in the beginning of the game? This is why I think the ending of TPP somehow will explain that BB wasn’t in a coma between TPP and GZ, and that the coma Kojima was talking about, is the one between MG2 and MGS4.

          • JGPliskin

You’re right. I had that one worng in my mind, sorry πŸ™‚ Thats very strange, we know how he falls into coma, because we see it in the hosptial scene. Strange why he would want to explain in at the end of TPP. Maybe your’re right with your theory or maybe he means the cause why he gets to hosptial and all. Which could mean TPP starts after the Coma(with the scenes we allreadsy have seen, where BB wakes up) and what happend between the end of GZ and beginning of TPP will be explained at the end of TPP. Which would be really shit, because I don’t want to wait until the end to know what happend to the chopper at last and how they got to the hosptial. That would suck πŸ™

          • RevolverBosscelot

I just had a really, really sick idea, and I’m not sure if it already has been discussed. What if BB fell into a coma at the end of GZ, but didn’t wake up in TPP? What if his coma stretched from the end of GZ, and all the way to when he woke up in MGS4? This would mean that the character we play as in TPP, and who Solid Snake subsequently will defeat in MG1 (and possibly kill in MG2) isn’t BB, but an imposter or clone, since BB would still be in a coma at this time. This would explain why BB only fell into a coma once, and why he seemingly “turned evil” during TPP, MG1, and MG2.

Of course, this sounds pretty far-fetched, but when it comes to screwing with our minds, nothing is below Kojima as we all know πŸ™‚

          • Kevin Kerr Music

Also I just want to add, I noticed something when watching GZ again.

            You
actually SEE those cuts and blood burn into snakes skin during pazs
explosion. So its proof that the injuries where infact from Pazs bomb.

Watch the ending cutscene, as snake is blown away watch his forehead. You see the blood burn in in the exact same spot. *duplicate*

          • Kevin Kerr Music

NEW PROOF THE NO CHOPPER CRASH THEORY IS CORRECT

In the new leaked trailer, you see BB scream (just before it says the title). The horn I’d brand new in that scene. It’s giant.

So from then on. He went in a coma and the doctors removed as much ad they could of if. Or it got damaged from then.

But either way.. it’s quite clear the horn is new after that explosion. Only thing is.. he Also has the new arm too.

Maybe.. during coma. They took his fake arm. And that’s why he looks at it like “wtf..?” When he wakes.
and he actually had it before the coma.

He Also doesn’t have the eye/face scars he wakes up with in this scene too.

          • Kevin Kerr Music

You got a link to this thread? Id love to see it. Every time I bring this theory up I’m constantly being told “they removed it from the final game” which is VERY clear that is not the case. As we see more or less the whole GZ helicopter scene in the same trailer as cut up snake. So it was never there to take out.

It is quite clear they don’t crash or atleast VERY clear this doesn’t put him into a coma.
