New MGSV:TPP Gamescom details: 25 minute demo, desert area, and discount for those who pre-order at the show

In a press release, Konami announced some new details on their Gamescom showing for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

A 25-minute presentation of the game will be shown in a dedicated theatre, showing Snake infiltrating a desert area (possibly Afghanistan again). There will also be a projection of the desert on the side of the theatre, which displays the day and night cycle (Kojima posted a photo of this screen).

Due to the sheer scale of its content and huge open-world environments, METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN will be shown via an all-new gameplay presentation. A dedicated theatre area will be used to show key aspects of Hideo Kojima’s latest opus, with the 25-minute presentation offering a tantalising glimpse at the unlimited ways of infiltrating that the new title offers, as Snake picks his way through one of the game’s desert-based locales. In honour of the game’s inhospitable environs, KONAMI will also project a vivid vista of a desert on the side of the theatre, which turns from day to night as seen in the game.

KONAMI will also be hosting a special evening event on the eve of the show. To be held at Cologne’s Musical Dome venue, series creator Hideo Kojima will appear on stage at the 1700-seater auditorium to give a one-off presentation of METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN in an evening that promises to answer many questions, and will also offer a few surprises! Doors will open for this adult-only event at 18:30 on August 13th. Deluxe seats will also be given away through various competitions, and KONAMI will ensure seats are available to interested parties on the night.

On top of that, Konami has also announced a 5 euro discount for gamescom attendees for the PS4 and XB1 versions of the game for anyone reserving a copy of the game (could this hint at an incoming release date announcement?). Aside from this, there will be a merchandise stall at the showfloor with new items, according to the press release.

Both METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN and PES 2015 will also be offering special pre-order discounts for the PlayStation®4 and Xbox One versions to gamescom attendees, with a five Euros discount available to anyone reserving a copy for at launch. A merchandise stall will also be in Hall 10, showcasing new items for both games and others from the KONAMI portfolio.

KONAMI will also use the show to promote other mobile titles, such as PES Manager, and the famed iDROID App that allows players to sync their mobile device with the best-selling METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES.

KONAMI´s booth is located in hall 7.1 A030/A031. The booth for business partners and media can be found in hall 5.2/A032.

    Hmm… Pre-order?
that probably means that there will be a release date, hopefully

    • John Doe

Yep, that pretty much confirms it

    • BigBoss_88

      Yes, 1984 ;D… 😛

  • Romain Robin

Interesting that they talk about a Desert location. Afghanistan is definitely not a desert area. As the Africa part is very likely to take place in the Kalahari desert (Rhodesia), It would be nice to see the african desert.

    • Random101

What is Afghanistan if not a desert?

      • The guy who drowned quiet

        mountain desert.

  • BigBoss_88

25 min gameplay wow, can’t wait :D! I’m slightly disappointed if it’s indeed Afghanistan again, but I guess it’s better we won’t get to be shown too much of the game.

Pre-order which is nice, it means release date reveal also?

The special evening event will feature few surprises too o_O?! What is it I need to know :O !

    • The guy who drowned quiet

      could be Kalahari desert

      • BigBoss_88

Hmm yeah could be :), we’ll see soon enough! One thing I know is that the gameplay will be awesome 😀 !

    • Janeo

I don’t mind seeing Afghanistan again at least we will be able to get a better idea of how big it actually is, I would like to see other countries but I don’t mind it will be better surprise the first time I step into another area.

  • Random101

I find it funny how they keep boasting about the enormous scale of the game, yet they keep showing gameplay footage of the desert. Exciting.

    • BigBoss_88

I don’t think they need to show too much areas of the game, just because of boasting. Although it would be nice…as I’m so excited for this game lol ;).
About the price, well I don’t really care if I get discount because of GZ or not. Discount is always good, but I’ll still buy TPP even if it cost 100€.

    • Risev

It wouldn’t be very smart to show off the entire game months before it is released now would it?

They’re obviously not showing Africa to keep a few surprises for the final release.

      • Random101

“Show off the entire game”? That’s not even what I said ffs. They claim the game is big, so they can afford to show off more than one location. Are you saying that if they don’t show off another location in the presentation they would be spoiling the game?

        • BigBoss_88

I don’t remember how some other open-world games that had big areas presented the games, like did they show a lot of different areas etc. But MGSV already has 5 trailers and few gameplay demos, which is enough for me. Of course gameplay is awesome to see in different areas, but this is my opinion.

        • The desert location alone is very large. It would be cool if they showed a completely different location, but maybe they want to save that for another occasion, such as TGS.

        • Risev

No, I’m saying that maybe they’re hiding something big under their sleeves, and showing even one other location might ruin the surprise.

  • Sly

    Infiltrating a battlefield hopefully

  • PrinceHeir

I knew it they would use the same desert area, but different place 😛

    Called this one out!

They’ll probably show different weather effects along the way. I want a rainy season to be shown!! Ground Zeroes already has rain at night so show it on Phantom Pain as well!

More costumes besides the desert stripes. I want my Ground Zeroes Sneaking suit please!

    • BigBoss_88

That’s nice PrinceHeir you can see into the future O_o XD .

  • Punished Fox

I had it with the fucking desert area.

    • BigBoss_88

      A speedrunner confirmed for TPP.

      • BigBoss_88

Lol I was actually thinking about this scene after I made my comment earlier xD ;D, Samuel ftw!

  • PrinceHeir

That’s some sexy cardboard box style XD

    • BigBoss_88

Yeah was so AWESOME O_O, indeed some sexy and funny sneaking xD! Those soldiers haven’t been with a woman for a while lol, they’re so excited.

I loved that saluting soldier part too. Only thing I hate is that there will be lots of people not familiar to MGS complaining again. They don’t understand the Kojima humor in MGS or are seeking absolute realism etc.
I’m actually starting to believe, that “the weapon to surpass Metal Gear” will truly be a C-Box. That thing kicks ass 😀 !

      • ObsessedGeorge

        Yeah, l saw a comment saying MGS has next-gen A.I. 🙂

        • BigBoss_88

Yeah it has ;)… but to be honest really no game has perfect A.I. Some say TLoU has, mostly fanboys, but it’s also far from it.

          • ObsessedGeorge

TLoU devs made the game’s A.I. to ignore your NPC companion but not you. If the player is seen, the A.I. doesn’t forgive mistakes.

On the other hand, l have been blown away by the Souls games A.I. It’s like enemies know when you’ll make a mistake and lower your shield for a split second, they’ll use to their advantage every tiny mistake the player makes. I speak from experience. (So many deaths!!) 🙂

          • BigBoss_88

Yea I have to agree with Souls games :D, I’m a long time fan too. The enemies are smart in it and always attack when lower guard etc. Lost my death counts but I think it’s somewhere around 500 lol. I’m proud of my deaths ;).

          • BigBoss_88

Little off-topic, but did you see this George :D? I can’t wait to get my hands on this…also looks so insanely good. I’m ready to die.

          • ObsessedGeorge

Of course! I watched the conferrence. It’s From Software. Need to say anything else? 🙂

          • BigBoss_88

Nah ;), you don’t need to say more. I’ll see you on the future pvp battles >;), assuming it has PvP too.

Although, I usually enjoy Souls for PvE, mostly because I’m often the guy who gets backstabbed to death lol.

      • PrinceHeir

I hope there’s still some 80’s Magazine that can be used to lure enemies there!

Still i’m satisfied on how the Cardboard box is turning quite nicely!

Next Gen Cardboard Box HELL YEAH!

  • XIFF-5

Did not expect HIDEO will show up tonight lol .
Nice teaser though and I can’t fucking wait for the game release!

  • MigMug

The pre-release demos and trailers for MGS4 only showed off the first section of the game. A big surprise in MGS4 was the inclusion of Shadow Moses, a location that was never shown prior to the game’s release.

I don’t think that continuing to show us the Afghanistan area of Phantom Pain necessarily means that it will be the only locale in the game. We’ve seen the Hospital area in trailers, and in gameplay, and Africa shown and mentioned as an area in trailers.

I’d say its too easy at this point to come out and say that Afghanistan will be the only area in the game. Wait for more announcements out of Gamescom or TGS before making a final statement on the locations in the game.

    MGS5 release in 2014/2015.
    This is awesome…

  • SpiderJerusalem

If you change the skin for Solid Snake instead of Big Boss of the player infiltrating the mother base of another player you got multiplayer metal gear (msx) remake!
