New images and release date for the Metal Gear Solid V ‘Man on Fire’ figure

Play Arts’ figure for the ‘Man on Fire’ has received a release date as well as a batch of new images. The 29 cm (about 11″) tall figure will be released on August 15 of 2015, for a price of 9760 yen (around 72 euro or 80 USD).

The Man on Fire can be seen during the hospital sequence which will serve as the intro to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Everything points to the direction of this being (a hallucination / ghost-like appearance) of Volgin, Snake’s enemy from Operation Snake Eater. But to know what role he plays we will have to wait until the game’s release.

      oh shit. please no.

    • I’m also living in Germany and it says 1.September, might be a mistake there or photshopped

    • Zlatan

but it says day one edition is still for 1. september

    • Venom_Snake_BB

Be calm and wait for an official announcement.

    • Sn4ke_911

      YES!!! NO DELAY!!!!!!

      • quintimnia

PHEW… huge relief. damn. this game gonna give me a heart attack someday. ESPECIALLY ON SEPT. 1

        • Dr. Miles Manners

This should teach a lesson to the people who use retailers/online retailers as a solid source for games’ release dates information.

      • Gatsu

        DON’T SCARE ME LIKE THAT Sn4ke !!!

  • quintimnia

im thinking, maybe volgin isn’t dead? why would he be a ghost?

    • Templar648

Why not? He’s likely dead. If so.. why can’t he be a ghost?
Anyways, the man of fire doesn’t exact have the same physique as Volgin.. this is a stretch but what if it’s Raikov? haha… I seriously can’t imagine that.
      Edit:
I’m way more learning towards that it’s Volgin which he should be… but if it’s not him.. who else. lol..

      • quintimnia
        • quintimnia

ok, maybe his face has shrunk because of the flames 😛

          • Melyssa

Or the skin and fat got burned off, and now his skull is just covered by a slim layer of muscle. Brrr.

        • That was the first thing I though of when I saw that pose. I just watched al the MGS 3 cutscenes on youtube. Literally an hour ago I finished watching it haha

      • effin

Calm down. Use intuition and reasoning; It’s blatantly Volgin.

    • Zlatan

why was the sorrow a ghost then?

      • quintimnia

ok, sorrow was dead. we even saw his skull. but volgin, we never saw bags zip up 😛 and full burnt body, scars, bullets, those looks. that stance who else would it be.

        • Zlatan

he must be dead. there is rumours this guy there is just a imagination/halucination of Big Bosses memorys

          • quintimnia

with all do respect, mantis was there 🙂 he could really be a ghost, or volgin came back for revenge, fully alive. collaboration with zero, and mantis. why not? maybe zero recruited mantis.

          • Chico Ribeiro

This is the Metal Gear universe. In wich have to switch the controller to stop a psychic from reading your mind, (whoops, spoilers!). He may be dead, alive, half-dead, in another dimension… The only logical explanation would be nanomachines.

          • Kol Leqejza

definitly. just like the white rose petals (from the fight vs. the boss) that are falling onto his bed in cyprus.

  • Rone

Just woke up, my mind initially took out the last four words. Also, I hope to god the game won’t be delayed.

  • Venom_Sina

These new photos confirm that this guy is definitely Volgin.

    • brett

considering there’s bullets coming out of his hand, yeah it’s Volgin

    • Yeah, if it wasn’t clear enough already this stance gives it away:

      • quintimnia

and scars on his face are identical

        • Venom_Sina

And that’s another one. Thanks for mentioning.

      • Venom_Sina

Yeah, and look at his clothes and bullets between fingers. The similarities are Undeniable.

      • Mini gear

I hope volgin Fire appears more then once, it’s so cool seeing big boss’s old enemies from when he was a “hero” and them making a return to surprise him, I hope bb acknowledges that it’s volgin

        • Melyssa

I don’t think he’ll ever be able to forget him…

  • Flameeater

We have known this is Volgin since we first saw this figure and he was holding the bullets between his fingers… So it would make sense to me that the unidentified blonde on fire is most likely Raikov. I always thought that the blonde on fire resembled an effeminate male that was on par with MGS2 Raiden, who Raikov was just a copy-paste of. Plus, they were lovers… and both were on fire. Makes sense to me 🙂

    • quintimnia

it cant be raikov, snake knew raikov was a man. and he was a man. but when he woke up from the coma, he asks ” what happened to the woman? ” i dont think snake calls raikov a woman. and raikov is not an important character in mgs. why would he be there?

      • Flameeater

He calls the unidentified blonde a woman? I had assumed he was talking about the nurse that was in his face the second he awoke all blurry eyed and morning breathy…. Of course I may have missed something. However, the unidentified blonde seemed, at a glance, to be a well equipped soldier, not someone you would need to “give a flashlight” and tell her to “take the stairs”. If I am wrong on this please do correct me but as it stands now I am pretty sure the woman Snake refers to is a nurse, if not THE NURSE that we have already seen.

        • quintimnia

“I… we gave her a light, she took the short way down ”
i’ve always assumed that they burned her alive and throw her away from the window lol. because that blonde you are talking about was on flames and running to the window. well, it could be a nurse too of course, but i think nurses are irrelevant. and if you watch closely, at the beginning of the trailer, snake lies on the bed, at the hospital gameplay, he lies on the ground, and some stuff in the room are messed up.

          • Flameeater

Apparently I had my wording wording wrong… Could be either/or I suppose… Would help if we knew just a touch more about how mischievous the bandaged man is. Curious as to who the WE in that scenario is as well.

          • quintimnia

just one person i think. im %100 sure that the bandage man is not real. It was big boss who did all the stuff without knowing. and thinks it was the bandaged man / himself.

          • Flameeater

The bandaged man is Guy Savage LOL

          • Dr. Miles Manners

It’s a good theory, since you would never imagine the heroic Big Boss doing that kind of stuff to some woman.

        • Javier

They are not talking about the nurse.

    • Tong Ninja

The blonde woman might be The Boss. Like in the form of a hallucination, because of the white petals floating around Big Boss before seeing Ishmael.

      • Flameeater

Actually, after just watching the original trailer a few times and seeing my mistake, one thing hit me. In one scene we see the unidentified blond with her head on fire, heading towards the window, but no ishmael. The next scene in that room it appears as though Snake is waking up, and Ishmael is standing there by the window with his head bandaged up. It seems really unlikely, but if Snake passed out…

BTW the Boss doesn’t burn. Ask anyone 😉

    • Dr. Miles Manners

You could say “they both were flamming!”

      • Flameeater

I see what you did there LOL

  • XIFF-5

I wonder why would they reveal the action figure and so many photos of it to show the resemblance of Volgin and spoiling the surprise for us? instead, I prefer they keep us wondering from that hospital scene only until the game releases. :/ Unless there is a twist… >:)

    • He was in the VGA Phantom Pain trailer, before anyone knew for sure it ws Metal Gear for sure. I think he looks to good to NOT promote it haha This is the best figure they got as of right now.

    • The figure comes out before TPP does, so people would have seen it anyway. And most people had guessed it was Volgin when he was first revealed.

      • XIFF-5

Yeah I know that they have already revealed it before, but I am just saying it would be better without showing it off to public before the release of TPP to surprise us ; )

    • Jak

Dude, people have known it was volgin since the moment we saw a shot of him. People going “oh that pose confirms it!” needed to be spoon fed.

  • If he does speak and Volgin’s voice is clear I think I’ll cry. I love me some Volgin.

    • Chris Jackson

Volgin was pretty evil and awesome sounding.

  • Tong Ninja

Woo! Quinton Flynn interview coming up 23rd May, 5pm (EST).

    Should be interesting!

  • Andrea Feletti

    Volgin!?!

  • Javier

    I missed reading “release date”.

  • Ravenous

WOW, that is an awsome figure O.o
This is a must have for me, simply because it’s so badass-looking 🙂

  • Chris Jackson

    WOW, is that ever Volgin!

  • Gatsu

This figure looks so sexy :), not a huge figure collector myself but this I’d like to buy. I’m excited as hell to play the Hospital escape part and with Ocelot where this fire Volgin is chasing me.

Fried by a bolt of lightning, reborn from the depths of fiery hell!

    https://youtu.be/doZuIaHR8Gg?t=600
Big Boss getting pretty lucky when those fire sprinklers go off, otherwise he’d get owned by the trench coat Volgin lol :O.
Btw only a bit over 3 months for this AWESOME hospital scene …. I wanna play it so bad.

    • I can already feel the tension

    • umbralex

This scene will be epic on PS4 and a PC with 5.1 audio system and a big TV Screen 😀 …can’t wait

      • Mini gear

I’m stuck between headphones and tv speakers, I’ve heard using headphones is best from some

        • Gatsu

Headphones is the best imo. You’re able to hear sounds much better, for example when I played P.T. with headphones it was a much scarier feeling than from TV. They’re both good in the end though :).

          • Yeah, everything is better than tv speakers but if you have a nice sound set consisting of an amplifier and some good speakers that’s a whole different story.

          • Gatsu

Hmm you’re right if get great speakers etc it could be much better :).

          • Well a good head set or a good speaker set is probably about the same quality. Depends on what you are looking for, if there are other people in the room a headset may be a better idea. 😛

    • Big Boss is going to recruit those fire sprinklers ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • ChatWraithShichi

When PlayArts originally listed this figure, its SKU was labeled “Burning Volgin” (or something similar). It’s confirmed to be an apparition of volgin.

    • Dr. Miles Manners

The enhanced suit, bullets through his body and his hands and poses pretty much confirmed it.

  • Boldizar

    KUWABARA KUWABARA….

Interestingly rain would hinder this Volgin variation as well.

  • Sn4ke_911

Yes! Journalists are not allowed to talk about the story in the upcoming previews on june 9th.

    • Great news! That also means no spoilers.

      • Sn4ke_911

Yeah i was worried they are allowed to talk about the hospital but now i’m relieved, i don’t mind some afghanistan gameplay but i really don’t wanna know anything about the story.

      • Gatsu

Yeah I definitely agree :D. It’s good that they can’t talk about it, because there’s a good chance some of them would spoil. I was prepared to avoid the next previews but now I might read them.

    • Icosikaidigon

Oh good. No spoilers (hopefully). Although I thought it was sort of spoilery that one of the people at the preview event mentioned that the invading group at the hospital is Cipher. Although that might be obvious from “The Phantom Pain” trailer.

      • Melyssa

But the question is, is Skullface still with Cipher? That changes eeeeeeverything!

    • What will they talk about then? They already told us many things about gameplay.
      I’m a bit confused. I don’t understand the embargo lift. :/

      Have a nice day 🙂

      • Probably more or less the same things as they tweeted, but put together in a preview story. Hopefully some new details as well (gameplay, controls, mechanics). Hopefully Konami will release some new screens as well on June 9th.

    • Melyssa

Wonderful!!! I was fearing I’d get spoiled long before getting the game.

  • Mini gear

    A 102 days left

  • Tong Ninja

Speaking of Volgin, do you guys reckon we will see other returning MGS3 characters in TPP??
I think The Boss (in flashback form) and Zero were confirmed ??
But what about the Paramedic, Sigint and Eva?

    • Gatsu

I’d love to see more of the characters, especially Para-Medic :). Also hoping to hear Big Boss talk about Zero’s “grand experiment” LET just even a little at some point, with PM, Zero, Eli, Skull Face or someone else.

      • Matthew

Boss fight against a flaming (the) boss would be cool. And then a flaming para-medic can talk about flaming vampires.

      • Tong Ninja

Kojima said in 2013, that the LET experiment will be explained properly which is a good thing.
I want a scene where Big Boss comes face to face with Zero, and they have a good banter and chat haha!

        • Gatsu

He did say that :O? Then I had forgotten XD… thanks Tong :D.

          • Tong Ninja

at around 0:50, Kojima didn’t directly say it, but he implied it. He said playing towards the end of the game, everything will come together and be explained.

    • That’s one thing I wish koima did whenever he had flash back sequences. Seeing The Boss on the Fox Engine would be amazing

    • Sort of, not really confirmed but Lori Alan (The Boss) implied that she did some voice work for MGSV and Jim Piddock (Zero) said Konami approached him for the role or something like that.

      • Tong Ninja

Yeah Banjo Ginga (Japanese actor that played Zero, Liquid Snake, Liquid Ocelot in past games) is doing voice over work for TPP. So we should assume, he will play Zero right? haha

    • Melyssa

Someone suggested that since we see Big Boss riding a Triumph motorcycle we might get to see EVA again, or at least a mention of her.

Since Zero is still working with Para-Medic and Sigint, I think we might get at least mentions of them too. I’d love to see them in flashbacks!

      • Tong Ninja

haha yes, I would like to see some characters return from MGS3!
I think we do get to see Eva again, because she was part of the LET experiment which resulted in giving birth to Solid and Liquid snake. Kojima said he would explain the LET experiment in TPP, so hopefully she’ll be in the game!
Para-Medic and Sigint are part of the Patriots as well so it would be nice to see them alongside Zero as well.

  • Solidus Türk

    kuwabara kuwabara…

    • natthecat

My neighbor’s dog is named Kuwa. He probably thinks I’m crazy when I greet the mutt with a loud Volgin like “Kuwabara Kuwabara”

      • Gatsu

This was pretty damn funny, lol ;).

  • Solidus Türk

Volgin can talk look at the hospital trailer before he takes a shower he says SNAAAAAAKEEEE.

    • Gatsu

Yes I think so too, in the video I posted below is the scene. When the fire sprinkler pours water on him, while he vanishes imo he says “Snaaaaake…” with a low voice.

  • Kol Leqejza

that guy is NOT volgin! this is my dad after one bottle of jack.

  • Icosikaidigon

You can also see all the bullets sticking in him. Those are from his bullet-belt that was exploding when he got killed by lightning. Pretty cool.

  • Vegas

I wonder why Snake is hallucinating with Volgin… did he hated him? Or just feared him? Maybe he feels like he is becoming Volgin in the sense of doing anything to archieve his goals… I dunno.

    • Maybe during the hospital sequence the ‘phantoms’ from his past are coming back to haunt him (in a hallucinatory kind of way). Volgin is someone from Snake’s past who he killed. Kind of like the dead Cobra members in MGS3’s river sequence.

      • Vegas

Could be.. but why just Volgin? he seems to be the only person he is hallucinating about. And Ishmael is someone he doesn’t know or don’t want to remember (hence the covered face). And the whale that also makes little sense.

        • Gatsu

Only one we have seen, there could be The Boss too (floating petals). Volgin beat the crap out of Snake, so maybe the torture scene left some psychological damage for him and he see Volgin because of it and Mantis.

          • Matthew

Volgin being Volgin and shooting the nuke was the one of the main reasons Snake had to kill The Boss. Also, Volgin killed Mission J. Frog

          • natthecat

Imagine how different the MGS universe would be if Volgin hadn’t shot the nuke. Big Boss would probably still be Naked Snake, just living his life like a good soldier, following orders, not causing any trouble, smokin his cigar.

          • Vegas

I dunno… This doesn’t feel right. It makes sense of course but its too simple for Kojima, i don’t think he would create this awesome scene and just say “oh it was the phantos from his past. Get it? Phantoms. Phantom Pain. Spooky”. But I guess i am pushing too hard xD

        • We may only have seen a small part of the sequence.

      • Anonymusx_1

I think maybe this got something to do with psycho mantis(we can see him at the hospital before volgin ‘phantom’ appeared) . Psycho mantis probably fiddling with big bosses pass and unleashed the Phantom(s?).

        • Melyssa

          This, this this this thisthisthis!

    • invader_skoodge

I think I know why Volgin is one of his “Phantoms” It’s chocolate sundae night

    • vic boss

Idk why but I believe that the person in fire that came for big boss, Even though I know Is volgin I always think is big boss himself from the future. You know cause the man in flames has a trench coat and horns. Is not him is obviously volgin. But that’s what I always think when I see the demo from the hospital

      • Vegas

Maybe that fits what i said about BB seeing Volgin as a demon, but then becoming the demomn himself.

    • Melyssa

Considering the horrible torture he put him through, being responsible for messing The Boss’ mission which forced the CIA to change the plan and make her sacrifice herself, knowing how much he hurt EVA, and being an overall dick… I think he hates and fears him.

      • Vegas

He never really showed any hate or fear for him. He always acted neutral and on PW and PO he is barely mentioned

  • captain!

it’s pretty obvious who it is now

    • Jak

      Was it ever not obvious?

  • No Place For Hayter

It was always funny that people generally thought this guy was Volgin, and then the figure gets revealed and basically proves it is without a doubt some sort of Volgin apparition, lol.

  • I keep forgetting about him. MAN he’s so cool.

  • Theo Heisenberg Constantine

im not saying thats volgin but its volgin.

  • PrinceHeir

I do hope they show other boss characters. I don’t know why Volgin shows up in Big Boss’s dream, it’s not like he was traumatized after Snake Eater.

It should be The Boss that’s hunting Big Boss. Which i think will appear in the game in some form 😀

    • Melyssa

Right after he wakes up in the hospital, he sees white petals floating over him. She’s definitely still haunting him.

  • Arahmis ‘Bvgatti’ Mendez

I think Kojima is retiring with Konami because of how serious the Fox Engine is, and his intent to offer it for FREE for developers.. I imagine it made Konami mad, and made unneeded choices. That man is amazing.

  • natthecat

I had this dream a few months ago, but this seems like an appropriate place to blurt it out. Basically, I was playing TTP, and I was at a boss fight against Flaming Volgin. The scenario was similar to the final showdown between Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Predator in the the first Predator movie. Big Boss was in a pitch black forest, and rain was pouring down, and all you could see was this fiery figure moving about. Volgin was slowly stocking me, occasionally going from tree to tree, like The Fear in MGS3. I was running from bush to bush trying to to stay out of his view. I even had to use the roll maneuver to cover myself in mud, so he couldn’t see me with infrared. I eventually found a spot where I could bring him to a choke point, and I set a trap with a spiked log and some rope. I purposefully shook off the mud, so he could see me. Once he spotted me, he marched at me exactly like does in the hospital, right into my trap. The spiked log stikes him to the ground. As soon as he was hit, he morphed into one of “those who don’t exist”, one of the Skull Squad, and he retreated back into the forest, only to turn back into Flaming Volgin, and go another round. Naturally, when I beat him, he exploded like the bosses in MGS3. Pretty intense. I think the MGSV boss fights are going to be the best in the series; I can just feel it.

    • No Place For Hayter

I don’t know whether you have seen to much Predator or played to much MGS or are to hype for TPP, I’m leaning towards the first and last options, lol.

On a more serious note yeah, the boss fights in TPP have HUGE potential.

    • vic boss

Hahaha its funny the other day I had a dream were I was playing TPP and big boss was flying thanks to those robots or like mini metal gears he uses. Idk ifthat will be in the game but I think it’s almost impossible.

    • Tong Ninja

If Kojima can do the open world boss fights right, there is a LOT of room for creativity and open ended solutions to beating a boss. If he can do that, they might be one of the BEST boss fights ever in a video game. I’m sure Kojima brainstormed a lot of brilliant ideas for the boss fights with his team.
Also I hope for some giant boss battles (eg., Mech Units, flaming whale) as well as human based bosses! 😀 😀

      • Mini gear

Open world. Metal gear fight= perfect

    • This needs to happen

  • Lefta_Gaming

Definitely Volgin. Will appear as hallucinations as many in the intro to MGSV: The Phantom Pain. BB having flashbacks to introduce new fans to the storyline before GZ.

  • Machine Gun Kid

The burning man is volgen before he becomes skull face. Volgen+Burning man=Skull face

    • Ravenous

If that’s the case, why would he be lying to Paz about his background, and why would he care, or even know about Zero/Cipher?

And how could he be Skullface in GZ, and just a hallucination in the hospital-scene from TPP?

      • Machine Gun Kid

Yea true. Like when he was telling the story of how he got the scolding rape seed oil all over his body. Got ah point there. Its kojima man who knos lol

  • Machine Gun Kid

Pretty sweet figure. Looks like he belongs in mortal kombat lol

  • Javier

MAYBE, he is not volgin or an hallucination. He could be a flaming boss who took the form of many known characters. In metal gear saga we always see something about the previous games. So he can be volgin, the fear, the pain, and others.

    • Gatsu

Many possibilities :), and that is a good theory. Oh maaan, I hope the 3 months go fast so we can experience the epic story asap.

      • Javier

I can’t imagine the moment when we can finally experience tpp.

  • Shalashaska
  • Melyssa

Has anyone else noticed how he has those casings inlaid into his clothes AND FACE? Yeouch!

    • Javier

      That’s the way he died.

  • Jak

Ehhh, gonna pass on this and the mantis-What’s most likely a 30 second hallucination seems like a waste of $130.

Now, if PAK wants to do a full SE line with a proper Volgin, and Ocelot and Eva…

  • Saxon McMichael

    Dat ass

  • FOX VS XOF

    cool
