Metal Gear Online developers: we recognize issues players are having

Metal Gear Online launched on consoles a little over a week ago, and the game’s developers at Konami LA have been receiving a lot of feedback by players all over the world. And while they don’t have any announcements yet on specific updates, they do recognize some issues people are having. On Twitter, they said:

Here we are at the weekend, just over 10 days since the launch of MGO for console players. We’ve been taking in feedback from all kinds of sources, including, and especially so this Twitter account. Thank you for your input. We’ve also been reading extensive feedback on forums and different videos as well.

With the game still young yet, I can’t announce any particular changes/updates at this time. We obviously don’t feel our work is perfect out of the gate and definitely recognize issues players have been having. Likewise we’re excited to finally have the game out there and are enjoying watching people have fun with it, we’ve been enjoying it as well! Moreso we really appreciate the dedication so many fans have put into tournaments and twitch streams.

Thanks again for your continued support and passion, of that we’ve seen in fultonloads. Enjoy the weekend and Metal Gear Online.

I’d rather just have mgo2 back. Let the casuals have mgo3

      • moto hellogoto

        Yeah it’s too bad.

      • Eugene Voldo

While I fully understand that some people really liked MGO2 back then, for me it was an awful experience. It felt like a broken Counter-Strike with headshots out of nowhere. Yeah, I’m not that good at online gaming, but still I played CS and had fun with it. All I had in MGO2 is a frustration. I think I had played MGO2 for 5 hours and then dropped it completely. Awful experience for any player who plays for fun.

        • JJBYACH

It has a steep learning curve, the game mechanics forces you to always aim for the head, and at first that is very difficult but once I stuck at it, I began to get headshots more frequently – not just in MGO2 but also in other console games. But I agree with you, it had a steep learning curve that kinda weaned out new players looking to just jump in and have fun, which in turn made the playerbase more consistent. It’s a real double edged sword.

          • Ricardo Oe

short … mgO2 was a challenge for less experienced

          • JJBYACH

No, it’s more difficult for those who can’t (for various reasons) put the time in to get more experienced at it.

          • Aleezy

That’s what made it so fun though. Learning and applying. It made you try.

          • WhatTheJuicay

I think MGO3 did it right by making body shots effectively fatal. Just like real guns. Body wounds are nothing to write off. But they messed that up with all the Intel that shows up on the screen. You pretty much always know where everyone is. Sneaking takes a backseat, even in Cloak and Dagger.

        • Snake

You needed more than 5 hours to enjoy the game.

      • Ricardo Oe

I know some guys yakuza … and they are trying to bring back mgo2 … paying a few million to konami… who knows .. (this source is hot, you bet).

        • PsychoMantis18

          Comedic genius.

          • Ricardo Oe

            hahahahah

      • PsychoMantis18

        What an over-entitled fuck-wit!
“Need”s an answer so he can move on – How about asking politely.

Not what you waited 3 years for and never will be – Boo-hoo, they probably worked their arses off making the fucking thing, then you rip the shit out of it, and demand an answer!

They seem pretty responsive at least, judging from all the MGO updates I keep getting bombarded with at start-up. And all I want is the campaign, goddammit.

    • Ricardo Oe

Agree dude…Once the game is ready, just raise it on a server … we would pay for it … it’s more money for konami … maybe a year from now.

      • Hekke

uhm you speaking about mgo2?? it’s already up for a while i played it few months back and it run well 🙂

        • Ricardo Oe

yeaahh …save mgo…I think I will join with you soon

    • Hekke

If you really want to play mgo2 again, search savemgo and tutorials on youtube step by step how to play it again… but it will cost some money you need a early version fat ps3 or early slim version, then downgrade and jailbreak it.

    • JoJo

“it’s different and therefore it’s for casuals”
That’s really not fair to the people at KojiPro LA, you know. How would you like it if you slaved over something only for people to dismiss it as for casuals?

      • Sting’s Dad

Agreed; the ‘elitism love’ for MGO2 is a bit daft.

But equally, MGO2 was released as a ‘starter pack’ and still had a whole range of maps, more than 3 game modes, a better reward system, a better lobby system and overall at least it attempted to take itself seriously.

MGO3 has been released without even a half of the content or completion that MGO2’s ‘starter pack’ included. It feels like a Beta, in every way.

In that respect, I can see why people still pine for MGO2; if only in wishing for MGO3 to have actually been released as a finished product. 4 maps and 3 game modes is an appalling quantity for any online game.

        • JoJo

Hey I won’t argue with you that MGO3 doesn’t have enough content. I fully expect that to be remedied by expansion packs and DLC, but it should have been far more on launch and it’ll be pretty unfair for them to charge money to “finish” their product. Maybe they won’t, but it’s Konami after all.

      • Aleezy

I wouldn’t like it. But I would have also listened to the constant feedback given by the “non-casuals” in the 10 month span from December (when the first trailer was shown) to Oct 6th. Part of me doesn’t feel sorry tbh.

I’m no developer but I think there was enough time to implement at least some of things the mgo2 people wanted. I know they didn’t want a remastered mgo2 but at least have the foundations of it yknow? I’m pretty biased for mgo2 so I’m thinking in the past but w/e. Hopefully it’ll change in the later months..

        • JoJo

Yeah but here’s the crucial part you’re missing – they DELIBERATELY didn’t want to make it MGO2. MGO2 exists, and you can still play it (albeit after some serious hoop-jumping, an unfortunate amount mind you). MGO3 is its own thing, KojiPro LA consistently told us this in this 10 month span, anyone who was expecting MGO2 was kidding themselves, and they were constantly told as much by the dev team.

          • Aleezy

Yeah the dream of mgo2 coming back was dead when they said that. Yeah I got a jailbreaked PS3 and mgo2 revived but playing now isn’t the same when servers were up.

So why did the metal gear online account say that they’re keeping the mgo1 & 2 players in mind? I would take that statement as having features from previous games into this one wouldn’t you? I don’t see it though. That’s a reason why I’m kina frustrated y’know?

  • Maynard

Shall we blame Metal Gear Solid for this

    • Danny Patten

Isn’t it amazing how Hideo influences everyone? So lovely to show your appreciation that way, isn’t it?

    • glitchbomb

Haja, yup. Saw this gif a few days back. Had to save it!

      http://m.imgur.com/nEPmCk1

  • Solid Old

    We need…

    Host Migration
    Be able to switch teams
    Text Chat
Host able to name the room
Option for more rounds per map
    Old Maps
And Snake bandana as head gear 😛

    • FoxTamerMGO

We also need the winning song.. 🙁

      • Sting’s Dad

It’s still in there, your team just have to win 2 rounds in a row. Although you can’t sing it… :-/

      • WhatTheJuicay

Winning song is still sorta there but I know what you mean. We need the ability to roam when the match ends, instead of it taking us to a 20sec long Stat screen. Also the ability to skip these waiting screens to make things move faster. Takes too long to get back into action.

    • Ricardo Oe

      You forget…

      Rules
      Headshot
      More caracters
      Delete or add weapons

Knifes (a fuckin mistake delete this in MGS5)
      Kicks system…

      AAAaahhhhhHHHrrrrggghhhhh….

      • Ricardo Oe

fight and shots among team members; It was a fun thing..

      • Snake

Our only chance for getting these things back is playing Save MGO. Say goodbye to the old days of Metal Gear Online. This MGO3 is far away from a real Metal Gear.

    • Aleezy

Also complete stealth with guns only visible. It makes attacking in cloak and dagger useless when the enemy can see you regardless. And enemy shouldn’t defend with stealth. Honestly the stealth mechanic should be taken out other than in cloak and dagger. D Walkers should be nerfed too. Elocs get spammed so there should be a ability that negates marking. More background music from previous MGOs (new ones too) and more gear should be added.

      • WhatTheJuicay

I think they should keep all of those things in Cloak and Dagger and give us back Team Sneak with everything you mentioned. These new modes are unique yea, but they’re not exactly the same. Sometimes in tsne I wished I could see the outline of invisible people but cloak and dagger insults my defense intelligence.

        • Aleezy

Practically instant round win in defense. Unless attacking team spams stun grenades / sleep grenade launcher and has stun shotguns but that’s another topic to rant about lol

          • WhatTheJuicay

Yea cloak and dagger could be crazy stupid in a bad way. The only limitations they put on it are non lethal vs lethal but you have non lethal stuff that are way over board. Then you have lethal guys in Cloak ugh…

      • Solid Snakes Revenge

I agree with the cloak and dagger thing but walker gears don’t need to be nerfed. They blow up pretty easy.

        • Aleezy

Really? For me it’s hard. I use the grenade launcher attachment doing direct hits and they don’t explode. Maybe it’s connection issues. When I mean nerfed I mean they should move slower. To me they move/turn pretty fast. I guess I just need to get better at destroying them.

      • Drew

Naw its kinda OP but it could be nerfed not taken out…

    • ObsessedGeorge

Also, when in a party but not as a host, why does the game tell you that the match is full and it sends you to the next random match it finds? I want to play with my friends, that’s why l’m in a party. I’ll wait till someone leaves. The game doesn’t have a queue.

    • Snake

Yeah, keep dreaming. This creators are the worst ever. They don’t listen to fans.

  • Kenny Armour

i just wish there were boxes around the map like in mgo2 so the box doesnt render completely useless for hiding purpose.

    • Eugene Voldo

As far as I remember, boxes were the first things that got destroyed immediately after round starts. I know that since I had tried to be sneaky in MGO2. Actually, now that I think about it, trying to be sneaky in MGO2 is like «trying to be dead» 🙁

      • Aleezy

It actually worked when people stopped shooting the boxes later on the years… Especially TSNE when you get alerted…. *sigh* I miss MGO2 so much. 🙁

        • Snake

Everybody misses MGO2. Thay have ruined Metal Gear Online.

      • Sting’s Dad

In MGO3 if somebody fires their gun, it shows up on the map.
Therefore people trying to destroy boxes due to routine would actually have a different side to it.

      • Solid Snakes Revenge

Not talking Shit but you must not have been good at it. Cardboard box and sneaking was how I played it and I was pretty good at it.

    • Aleezy

The boxes have another use. When you get marked you could crouch in the box for about 6 seconds and it’ll unmark you. You can also dive out of the box when you’re marked and the mark will stay on the box so you can trap the enemy coming after your marked box.

  • Andrea Feletti

I really liked this guy’s MGSV critique! in two words…totally british XD

  • 223hzy

Anyone knows how to get up there and get those plants? Is it possible?

    • Jav

I think this is the place

      • 223hzy

Not this, it’s on the other side the other end

    • ObsessedGeorge

I was having trouble getting the Large Diamong on the hill with a tree. Snake can’t climb shit in this game, even the smallest ones. The solution was to get there by using the jeep.

    • 223hzy
  • Kol Leqejza

mgo3 is a disappointment, but mgo2 was worse.

    • Snake

I bet you played it much time , man.

      • Kol Leqejza

        yeah.

  • Isaiah

Anybody else make a compilation of their horrifying moments in MGO? Lol
    https://youtu.be/HvpFmE9NkJE

    • Does everyone have the same voice??

      • Dr. Miles Manners

There’s 5 voice options for male and 4 for female:

        – Keifer Sutherland (Avatar character slot) (Male only, obviously).
        – Voice Option 1 (Created character. Male and Female available).
        – Voice Option 2 (Created character. Male and Female available).
        – Voice Option 3 (Created character. Male and Female available).
        – Voice Option 4 (Created character. Male and Female available).

  • hunner

    Pros:
    -Fun
    -Addicting
    -Bounty Hunter is a blast
    -Character customization
    – Unique characters
    Cons:
    -Lack of maps and modes
-Auto aim correction needs to be removed
    -Rush mode is terrible
    -Lag
-Defenders should NOT be able to use Stealth camo in cloak and daggers
-Stealth camo and mechs are overpowered
-EVERYONE uses Infiltrator class. Stealth camo everywhere

  • Jav

I get shot through the walls.

  • Danny Patten

I’m glad I don’t play MGO. I knew it would be bad since the whole launch drama with MGS. So sad to see that Konami just fucks this one up. I don’t get how a multi billion $ company cannot achieve stable servers. Should have asked the big ones like Activision or EA for help…this is just ridiculous.

  • Dr. Miles Manners

Just give us more hairstyles options! Bothers me to no end that the avatar or created character is only nearly bald, bald or super bald.

  • PrinceHeir

Yeah i do think Stealth is kinda OP at times XD

I think we need those level perks MGO2 had like Counter CQC(but have to time it this time around). I know there’s an Anti marking, but i forgot which class(i’m only using infiltrator this time around).

And more customizations please. The customization is disappointing. And WTF are colors cost 50,000GMP compared to buying the armor itself which is only 500GMP!?!?!

  • Frederick Guese

I would like SNK, and more maps.

  • Patron

I’ve been playing since opening day for mgo3 but why can’t I play as ocelot or snake, did I miss something ?? Ps4 mostly bounty hunter mode

  • Ardens Anima

I see some people here are stating their dislike for the Stealth camo on the other modes besides C&D.
I personally find it alright though, as the S.Camo is honestly not that hard to spot, or counter.
It’s really easy to spot if You’re really paying attention, and Night Vision and E.Locators can easily counter.

I don’t have as much as a problem with it being OP, as without it, it’d be near impossible to sneak.
Without the camo, sneaking across wide open areas would be a living hell, You would have to cling to nothing but brush and wall, but with the number of open areas being that there is quite a few, it’d be impossible to really contribute, as You’d just be staying in the enclosed areas, and then You might only have like, up to three people who even pass through that entire match.

Not only that, but the player models moving through brush is so easy to distinguish that it’d be hard not to see them.
and because the Infiltrator is so easy to kill, taking out the camo would just make Infiltrators pointless and no fun.

I do acknowledge the reasons why people think it’s OP, but I’m just saying that for Me I personally never had a problem with it being OP.
