The game is still doing fairly well in the charts two months after launch, so we can expect this number to increase.

    V Million copies…..

  • hunner

So it sold 5 million copies? Or is the amount shipped different?

  • Full Options

    Ok say averagely 50 $ per copy leads to 5 000 000 * 50 $ = 250 M$
If ~45 % goes in Konami’s pocket, then they earned at least 112 M$
The dev cost are hereby reimbursed and probably marketing as well, so we can logically think Konami is doing pure profit now (and it is not over yet !).

Off-topic : Konami is conducting a survey about MGSVTPP in Japan :

    https://www.enq.konami.jp/sv/mgsvtpp2/1

    • BurntFM

I like how there’s a question why did you buy the game and one of the answers is “Because it’s a Konami product.” LOL they wish….. and it’s right next to “Because Hideo Kojima” Zing*

      • Full Options

I did not inspect the survey that far (stopped at the prefecture / location)… Woooo hot stuff, because Japan loves Kojima and MG because they have very high / infinite respect for those of them having international success. We are not sure what’s goin on but if HK was that targeted, some are going to realize what is the game industry in the hardest way it seems… xD

        • BurntFM

I just finished the survey and It seems that they take into consideration that a lot of people get their MGS info from Kojima’s Twitter. There’s a part at the end where they let you write a comment. I couldn’t resist to write Kojima, Kaminandesu! LOL

          • Full Options

You did perfect ! Even if they guess you are not a Nihon-jin. HK twitter is perfect too because, man, HE IS KONAMI… More than anybody there, at least for me. I love at 80% Konami for HK and the rest for the old MSX cartridges.

          • BurntFM

I answered all in Japanese. I guess I had to put my Japanese language class from 3 years ago to good use. I lived in Osaka too so not completely lying lol Kojima and IGA were 2 of the few talented minds in Konami. Konami Ltd is poop.

          • Full Options

If you lived there, I am sure you were enough formal ! xD
I was near Kyoto for 3 months (Otsu,.. Otsu-des…) 😀
Konami crafted rom cartridges that were bringing arcade gaming at home in a deeper manner than simple atari 2600 ones very few years before. I still do not understand what is happening with their principal beacon, Kojima Sensei.

  • VenomSnake123

Nice! Wonder how many of those 5 million were actually sold and not just shipped though.

    • Full Options

Good question. Shipped and sold units are often quite close numbers, I guess at least 80-90 % were sold.

      • VenomSnake123

        I hope so! 🙂

  • Danny Patten

    You go Glenn Coco!

  • willworkfortoys

I apologize ahead of time that this is off topic but it seemed like the most likely place to get an answer. Does anyone else have a strange pink tint on the top half of their screen on MGO3? Its not my TV or PS4, it only shows on MGO3. Any help appreciated, sorry for being an idiot.

  • Full Options

Are you plasma or LED ?

    • willworkfortoys

Assuming you’re talking to me LED. But like I said, nothing else has the pink tint, no other channels, not PS4 main screen, just MGO3.

      • Full Options

Yes sorry, I replied on top. Is it happening on specific tints ? Like very bright ones or permanent whatever the tint ?

        • willworkfortoys

Permanent light pink, I initially thought it was just a level specific fog of war type thing but it even shows up on character customization.

          • Danny Patten

Can you make a photo of that?

          • willworkfortoys

Yeah, I’ll do that when I get home.

          • Danny Patten

Aight, but make a screenshot AND photo. If the screenshot doesn’t show the pink overlay then something is def wrong with your ps4 to tv connection. Which is maybe HDMI and frequency related.

          • willworkfortoys

Yeah, I tried switching hdmi ports and playing other games so maybe it is the cable+mgo3 only.

          • ObsessedGeorge

It can’t be the HDMI since that pink would appear even on the main menu PS4 screen. We need a screenshot with the share button and a photo of the TV.

          • Danny Patten

Yea, it is rather weird but he says that he doesn’t have that when the PS4 is not on the screen. Maybe it is the PS4 itself which would be bad news. He should try different games, if it happens with them…well shit.

          • ObsessedGeorge

Possibly a MGO specific bug. Let’s wait for his reply.

          • willworkfortoys

I also thought it may be some weird ‘devil points’ thing where your screen gets more red the more people you kill but I’ve not found anything else about it online.

          • Full Options

It is weird indeed… Like a MGO’s screen-space shader making your screen alias like that. Is it noisy / animated ? Are you positive in the fact it is only MGO specific and not present in TPP as well ? Patten is right, a snaphot would help. Since you experienced it only with that game, you may ask to Konami if they have a clue about this artifact.

    • Danny Patten

      I’m 90% Water, you?

      • César H. Sandoval

        70%
        Are you a jellyfish?

        • Gatsu

          lol xD

        • Danny Patten

You don’t know me. You don’t know what I’ve been through! Geez the judgement of Jellyfish here is outrages!!!!!

      • Full Options

Liquiiiiiiiiiiiid !!!!! Get out of Danny now ! xD

  • PrinceHeir

    Congrats Kojima Productions.

Shame on you Konami. Now enjoy the profits since this will be your last in the gaming division

    V has come to!

Konami’s response to your comment: 😛

      Pachinko

      • Full Options

Konami : Hey HK stay here and direct KojiPro to develop our Pachinko simulator’s AI for mobiles.

Kojima : Because I am nice, I would say the FoxEngine is not ready for that. It will take us 7 years… Deal ?

Konami : All right, all right, investors won’t be happy so how about MGS6 on next gen ?!!!

Kojima : Because I am nice, I would say the FoxEngine is ready for that. It will take us only 7 years… Deal ?

Konami : Wut ? 7 years again ! Think about investors, they can’t wait that long ?!

Kojima : Because I am nice, I would say Fans, AKA costumers were always ready to wait without complaining.

        • Danny Patten

That was a ride from top to bottom…:D

  • It will surpass MGS2 sales. Congratulations to Kojima Productions JP/LA. GOTY.

  • Gatsu

I’m happy it sells so much, great achievement :). Well done KojiPro!

  • FoxTamerMGO

Seems the GOTY is gonna be The Witcher 3.. Even tho i think MGSV sucked.. but it’s still better than The Witcher..

    • VenomSnake421

      What about Fallout 4?

    • Full Options

If you are not a spoiled child, do not behave like it.
You never played anything like MGSV in your whole life. Otherwise just keep buying and playing games like a consumption society’s slave.

      • FoxTamerMGO

0___0 lol? I finished MGS4 like 15 times and played MGO2 for 15000 hours (Literally 15000 hours) I will never play anything like MGSV? MGS4 was far better in my opinion and those who played MGO2 addictively will agree with me. Your projections towards me is hilarious, because you don’t know me. If YOU never played anything like MGSV then.. don’t project your experiences into others.. I was so excited for MGSV before release that I bought Snake’s Leather jacket and Premium Package MGSV.. Now i regret it.. Even the prosthetic arm isn’t snake’s.. it’s the medic’s LOL 🙁 So if anyone dislikes MGSV is a regular consumer? I played every MGS game since the 90’s.. My first console was Sega Genesis and Nintendo family computer and I played almost every known game out there and the best games on each console and I KNOW that MGS saga surpasses them all but MGSV didn’t deliver well..

        • Full Options

Even the arm Prosthetic is medic’s… Boooowooowooo, even after your million hours with MGS2, you can not get what the game-PLAY is about. Try to write just a couple lines of code and you will fully understand what is programming innovations, specially in games, supposed to sustain that much frames / sec… OK 😉

          • FoxTamerMGO

            Not MGS2.. MGO2*. seems you didn’t even play MGO2 -__-

          • Full Options

Ha sorry, but my first console was atari 2600… hem sorry and / or CBS Coleco vision… Does it make sense to you as well ?!! 😀

          • FoxTamerMGO

            I can’t comprehend what you’re saying

          • Full Options

That’s normal, but please do not shoot “MGSV sucked” like that, because I can assure you that you won’t find anything that polished in terms of AI so far. Just feel free to ask studios like RockStar if not sure…

          • FoxTamerMGO

So you’re going to judge a whole game on only AI?

          • Full Options

Is AI the only thing you like in MGSV ???

          • FoxTamerMGO

You can’t answer my question with a question lol

          • Full Options

You can not hide behind this answer LOL. Let’s put it this way, Japanese titles are so stable for decades that we can say it is because they are really neat in coding, right ?
Regarding MG, the UI design / experience was always 10 out of 10, the same for character / level design and gameplay. If we strictly speak about video games, do you still maintain “MGSV sucked” ???!

          • FoxTamerMGO

I’m having difficulties trying to understand your point.. So you’re saying games should only be rated judging the gameplay alone?

          • Full Options

Now you will understand it :
Once upon a time, games were stuffed in few kilobytes… Not much left for anything else ha ?! Story crap, stuff like that.. We were playing games for the gameplay. Only one fellow brought us to the next level at this time… HK. He is still doing it with MGSV.
Once you ‘ll realize what I am talking about until the point HK is gambling his job for doing that… Maybe you will considerate MGSV a little differently than any game that could be served to you nowadays. Do you still need more !? 😀

          • FoxTamerMGO

The story wasn’t as good as the prequals.. Characters like Venom Snake/Quiet/Skull Face were underdeveloped. The episodic nature of it made it less exciting. So much time gets wasted waiting in the helicopter for deployment. “Empty” large-scaled desert wastes your time traveling from a point to the other. No Boss-fights. The Cobras(MGS3)/Dead Cell(MGS2)/FoxHound(MGS1) units.. each guy in each unit has a character and personality.. MGSV you have “The Skulls”.. random parasitinized humans. Ocelot isn’t as interesting as before. Shall I continue? .. As for gameplay.. MGS4’s gameplay is better IMO, you might understand why i said that if you tried “Metal Gear Online 2”. MGS4’s gameplay was hard.. MGSV is easy for anyone to try. So when a person like me tries MGSV and compare it to other MGS games in terms of story/characters/gameplay.. I can say with confidence that MGSV sucked.. just because MGSV gameplay is easy to handle and “open-world” doesn’t make it good. So again, that’s your opinion bro and this is mine. And I said the witcher is gonna take GOTY because it just won the “Golden Joystick Award”.

          • Full Options

Da MTV Music awards or something ? Just kiddin.
MGS4 was not that hard. I really think V’s story is cool, are you so mad because you don’t have the ending you expect ? (it is not over yet! xD)

          • FoxTamerMGO

Nah I actually like it.. I’m a medic myself ;’P It’s not about the ending.. It’s about the things I mentioned above..

          • Full Options

But when you were a kid and even now, when did you played a game that was so different ?

          • FoxTamerMGO

What do you men by “different”? MGS series is “different” than other games because it has a well-written story. The gameplay/graphics also are ahead of its time. I said MGSV sucked.. but it’s still “BETTER” than the witcher..

          • Full Options

Let’s discuss this specific point again in say 2 years.

          • FoxTamerMGO

Sure, only if you can guarantee both you and me gonna live that long ;’P

          • Full Options

          • FoxTamerMGO

10 secs without oxygen to your brain will redeem you unconscious.. 1 to 1 and a half minutes will resolve in death.. so you never know.

Hmm.. I may not survive, finally… 🙁 Who knows ?

          • Spectralb***plug

DUDE HERES MY OPINION.THE FIRST 20 MISSIONS WERE MIXED.MANY WERE BLAND BUT SOME WERE AWESOME.AFTER THAT ONLY MISSION 43 AND 31 WERE GOOD.THE STORY WAS CONFUSING AND MADE NO SENSE .I LIKED MGS4S STORY THOUGH.

          • FoxTamerMGO

The hypocrisy.. MGS fans always praise MGS’s story.. and when MGSV story sucked.. they say “OH BUT THE GAMES ARE ABOUT THE GAMEPLAY” ;’/

          • Full Options

Old Fans don’t give a that real sh.t about story, some of them love game programming thanks to Kojima. 😉

          • FoxTamerMGO

Dafuq? You don’t give a shit about the story? I’m an “old fan” and I DO GIVE A SHIT.

          • Full Options

I said a that real sh.t. Again, put yourself in our old shoes, we just wanna play good games, because we apprehended games for gaming before story telling.

          • FoxTamerMGO

0___0 So you’re basically saying stories are useless in gaming.. If it wasn’t for MGS’s story.. it wouldn’t get as famous as it did.

          • Full Options

In some aspects, yes, I must admit, because what makes me travel is the interaction with the simulation, rather than cut-scenes where I stay passive. I love all video games cut-scenes because they make me rest but I will never buy a game for its cut-scenes. I bought too many games full of scenes rather than gameplay. 😀

          • JJBYACH

You don’t have to make a game or know the complete inside outs of game design to critique one. What kind of skewed logic is that?

A valid critique of a game is taking your subjective interpretation of the artistic vision, analyise the fundamental parts used to convey said theme in a objective context, weigh the pros and cons equally and generate a logical consensus. This process can be painstakingly difficult, and often requires a more adept knowledge of game design learned by enjoying games and being able to justify why you enjoyed them, rather than studying in school how to make a game.

Kojima didn’t know how to program and never was taught how to make a game when he started, he just played enough games to be able to create something he was proud of and wanted to play, like most designers in the industry.

          • Full Options

JJ, I am too subjective here because maybe developers don’t give a sh.t about negotiating their income rather than making sure the job is done. Trust me, you have to know how to write a game before having the slightest idea of producing one. Most of the time devs code, and get f.ckd at the end because they are geeks. In the programming field, there are no pros, only cons and .ssholes telling you to write code faster because they pretend they’ll handle the support whereas devs freshly fired from their dpt. will integrate the support teams, guess why… Welcome to real life bro !

          • Full Options

This was just the Hi-tech part of the syndication but people should understand what is programming before criticizing games like movies.

    • hunner

Fallout 4 will win goty most likely. I don’t get why people get so upset over the vga’s whenever there favorite game doesn’t win. Your goty is the only one that should matter. What the critics say is 100% irrelevant to me.

      • Gatsu

        Well said.

      • MrVux007

I agree what you stated on users choice of GOTY but semi-disagree with Fallout 4 being the GOTY,its way to early to state which one of top GOTY contenders (Bloodborne,WItcher 3,Arkham Knight,MGSV and Fallout 4 sorry if i forgotten some) will win the GOTY….to me they are all are the GOTY-s and as you stated, the ultimate GOTY choice depends on the user preference….
for all i care, the critics choice of GOTY might be some random indie game i never herd of

    • Spectralb***plug

Who do you blame for this! And I miss Desmond too

    • Gatsu

Have you played Witcher 3 :)?

      • FoxTamerMGO

To be honest no.. but i’ve watched couple of playthroughs.. it just isn’t my thing.

        • Gatsu

I understand. The GOTY rewards are just opinions too so what really matters is your personal GOTY :D.

As a long time RPG fan, I have to say its no surprise if Witcher 3 is gonna get this title. It is imo the best open world RPG currently when play it yourself, it feels so amazing. The World, characters, monsters, OST etc are done very well :).

Looking forward to Fallout 4, just little longer ^_^.

Do you guys think it will surpass mgs 2’s sales?

    • Gatsu

      Yes it will.

    • Venom_Sina

      I don’t know why,but I think it won’t,but at the same time I think I’m wrong,lol.

    • It might, eventually.

  • Though it wasn’t the game people imagined in a lot of ways, I think that in time it’ll be looked upon much more favorably than it is now. I’m enjoying it more and more as I play and I’ve already logged over 100 hours.

  • JJBYACH

For those who don’t hate Kojima’s guts, here is an interesting look at how he made the Nuclear trailer, as well as the importance of promotion not only as a game company trying to promote a product, but to game designers figuring out the artistic vision of the game. It also has a lot of awkwardly gratuitous shots of Stefanie – so yeah, maybe NSFW?

Interesting video, watching currently thanks :). It still kinda hurts that one very, VERY cool moment was not in the game :C.

But I’ll get over it some day.

      • JJBYACH

It won’t stop hurting; like it’s all still there *flops arm on ground*
