Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has shipped 6 million units

In their latest financial report released today, Konami has announced ‘continued favorable sales’ for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game has now shipped 6 million units worldwide, including downloads (as of December 31st 2015).

The report shows gaming is still one of the most important segments for Konami, in terms of revenue.

    Shipped not sold

And where do you see the word sold? Sooner or later it will be sold.

  • No matter what Konami’s bullshit they are in, Kojima Productions did the most important part in their sales department last year. Metal Gear is still a thing after 28+ years.

Let’s listen and enjoy the masterpiece together:

let us show respect towards our beloved Konami and salute to their further success….

    • Robin030

im officially stealing this gif from you xD

  • Tong Ninja

Nice! So MGSV sales are on par with MGS1 sales after 5 months. Sounds like they did profit from MGSV based on the revenue report for gaming. 🙂

Had a quick read of the Konami Financial Report, and they actually lost profit (negative revenue) on Pachinko machines! XD

    • Tom Brearley-Smith

And so their Pachinko plans come back to bite them in the ass. I knew that this wasn’t the way for Konami but they went and released Castlevania and Silent Hill pachinko machines anyway.

    • As Kojima said:

“If you’re only focussed on the profits immediately in front of you, the times will leave you behind. It becomes impossible to catch up again.”

      • Mr.Pony

Pachinko’s end. Isn’t it beautiful? It’s almost tragic

        • It was a colossal error in judgement, one they could easily have foreseen.

          • Mr.Pony

Worse then them not being able to forsee it is the fact that a big company like Konami with so many years on the market still makes these rookie mistakes

        • Biggy

          súper tragic….

  • what i’ve learned from destiny is that shipped and sold are 2 separate things. if they are talking just shipped numbers then sales are probably not good.

  • Gatsu

    That’s pretty good :D.

    • Spectralbuttplug

Ofc it is chloe euhm i mean gatsu

      • Gatsu

You got the wrong name :P, but np brotha ;).

  • Spectralbuttplug

    Fuck haters

  • Jav

I don’t see this like good. The game was released for 5 platforms and we still don’t know the number of sales.

    • Mr.Pony

And we probably never will, unless the numbers are insanely huge, because its a public report

    • Metal Gear games aren’t megasellers like GTA or Call of Duty. Most of them sold around 5 million or less. The one that sold the most was MGS2 with around 6.9 million copies.

      • Jav

But this game was very promoted. A lot of “no fan” people told they will buy it.

        • vic boss

It was promoted, but just not as promoted as other games like call of duty or destiny, I mean the e3 2015 trailer didn’t even show up in any game conference, most of the people who saw the world premiere were fans of mgs before and that’s just an example of how the marketing for mgsv was really weird.

        • That’s why it’s one of the best selling Metal Gear games, and it probably isn’t done selling yet (these numbers are as of December 2015).

  • 223hzy

    I bought 4 versions

    • Ishmael

  • John Rhogan

When I get a PS4, I’m getting Ground Zeroes & Phantom Pain. I have thedigital version of Ground Zeroes, and bought Phantom Pain new (Day One Edition) for PS3.

  • Lastation 4

    Metal Gear sales

Decent numbers it outsold Rising, GZ and MGS 3 already, note that the vgchartz are without digital sales and not 100% correct!

Interesting that Peace Walker for PSP is the most sucessfull MGS in Japan

  • Biggy

So Kojima can’t receive the reward yet they make profit off of his baby. Nice. Fuck konami

  • Eugene Voldo

Good job Konami and Kojima! Even though 6 million across 5 platforms doesn’t sound that big anymore, especially when you have Call of Duty, Destiny and GTA selling easily 10+ millions copies just on console, I still think it’s a great achievement for MG series. And I can’t wait for a new MG game spearheaded by MGS2&MGS3 veterans. Long live Metal Gear!

Great news! MGSV is the best!

  • Biggy

Guys I’m 100 percent done with the game, I need at least 4 more areas, and new missions.
