Solid Snake, Colonel Campbell and Psycho Mantis star in Metal Gear Solid themed Ford ads

Here’s something unexpected: Ford has released two Metal Gear Solid themed ads online, based on the original PlayStation game. The first is a CODEC conversation between Campbell and Snake regarding one of the new models, the second a variation of Mantis’ mind reading scene. The original actors have reprised their roles for the commercials. Check out the videos below.

    WHAT

I love how Ford just treats MGS as if it were as commonly known as Batman and Superman. I dont see this as selling out, I see it more as MGS gaining a more mainstream reach. Its the equivalent to getting 7-11 cups, a cultural milestone in a way, something that I think is really cool even if non-effective. And its not something Kojima would’ve put past him with all the promotion he did in PW and Puma and what not.

    • JJBYACH

As a promotional effort it does seem quite redundant – either ford was scraping close to the bottom of the barrel for a cross promo or Konami threw a crap ton of money their way.

PS. When I say they either scraping close to the bottom of the barrel, I don’t mean MGS sucks or anything remotely close to that, it’s just that from a business perspective it has less far less mainstream marketing appeal than let’s say Call of Duty. Among all of the biggest AAA franchises, I always viewed MGS as one of the most niche of them all.

      • Alex

        Yep

  • Dotcum22

Absolutely love those online commercials even wen’t so far and checked the website of Ford to see the car lol

    • César H. Sandoval

I liked the Telemundo ones better, to be honest.

Still, can’t hayte the hayter lol

  • XIFF-5

Is this a collaboration between FORD and KONAMI and the voice actors?, it is weird and cool unexpected stuff lol.
Imagine, a Copyright claim by Konami… lol

    • Full Options

:D, Ford should be definitely obliged to ask Konami’s authorization before publishing such videos. It seems that Konami finally gave their approval, since the Youtube account is Ford’s official one. It would be a major legal error from Ford otherwise.

  • Venom_Sina

    Someone calls Konami,lol.
But jokes aside,Konami definitely knows about this.
One thing about Hayter:He is still recognized by his Snake voice. He even got jobs with it,but he says “I have no particular love for Kojima”.Ah,man….

    • Full Options

Yeah, really shocking… Although I hope they are not too mad at each others, but David always looks childish in his communications. Without Hideo, David = zero + nada… :/ What is he talking about ?

    • ThreeMadFrogs

I’m sure it’s not just me, but Hayter has seemed a little like a sore loser in the past year. I get that he was disappointed that Snake was recast, but some of his comments lately have been rather dickish.

  • Spectralbuttplug

    Hayter is love
    Hayter is life
I mean , hear his fucking voice !
After so many fucking cigarettes , his voice is so smooth unlike Kiefer’s much grounded but badass voice

  • Plissken

Hayter had to have written that codec one, it was too perfect. It was amazing to hear him again and then there’s that upcoming VR museum. Metal Gear will always live on

  • Uncle Ocelot

Just let the series die in piece.

    • Spectralbuttplug

      Shut the f up
      This is an advertisment

      • Uncle Ocelot

Yes, I am fully aware of what this is.

        • Spectralbuttplug

So how about you stop writing ignorant shit?

      • Full Options

Calm down or I start to call you Spectral again… 😀

        • Spectralbuttplug

          Nooooooooooo

          • Full Options

            xD

    • hunner

      lmao

    • César H. Sandoval

      Die in Pachinko, you mean.

    • Full Options

Although violins are not mandatory. Games can have a second lives even without the same directors. I am sure even Kojima himslef would be glad of it too.
The fate of Snake is in Konami’s hands but why let him die ?

“All I ask is, if we have to give these bastards our lives… WE GIVE ‘EM HELL BEFORE WE DO!”

  • ThreeMadFrogs

I’m super impressed that DH can still pull off the “young” Snake perfectly. All those years of using the low, gravelly voice hasn’t slowed him down one bit.

  • Jav

We saw something like this some time ago.

In another topic, there is a demo for that metal gear museum.

    • Spectralbuttplug

I do know about the demo but what do you mean in that 1st line

      • Lamp123

Hayter did an English dub version for this Ford advertisement 2 months ago. Not sure but i think the other guy is the English voice actor for krillin from DBZ

        • Spectralbuttplug

But he didn’t speak as snake lol

        • Spectralbuttplug

          Thx for the information

      • Jav

An ad using something about metal gear. Maybe it was just david voice.

I have just started my first run at the HD version of MGS2… I know, “boooo, how come that late ??” just like as shameful as giving a shot at the HD version of MGS3, just to help me waiting for TPP… xD

Done with the tanker, I just f.ckd Fatman and decided to give myself a little break.
It is so cool, there are tons of stuff I forgot…
The interface, along with the whole engine’s features, reminded me my love for Uehara-Sensei about true code neatness.

Guys, this stays between us, don’t tell anybody (xD) but I setup an “Easy” new game. Booooooo, bad, bad boy !
I wanted to just play a bit and watch the cut-scenes in HD (they could have re-mastered the pre-rendered intro that appeared quite blurry, but fortunately for HD, the rest of the game is real-time rendered, a pretty comfortable Koji-Hallmark for the epoch :D).

Sorry for choosing “easy”, I owe you an apologize. I am asking the high council to forgive me for that, bringing in the balance that I Euro-Extrem’d it 15 years ago, on a PAL PS2, and Perfect Stealth of course. ;D

    • JJBYACH

The first MGS I ever played was 4 (I bought it just for MGO2) and eventually decided that maybe the single player would be as fun as the multilayer, so I played through the single player on easy mode because I kept dying (I had zero patience for stealth as I was a 10 year old kid who plays nothing but online shooters; mostly CoD), I eventually gave up after – if I remember correctly – your first direct encounter with Liquid as the battle-regulator-emotion-control-nanomachine-things turn off and make all the soldiers go crazy. I had no idea what was going on in the story so I quit the single player and went back to MGO.

So as far as shameful frolics into an MGS game yours is not bad. Trying to play a stealth game perfectly is rewarding but very stressful, and if you just want to enjoy the experience at your own pace without any additional pressure it is often best to play the game on a difficultly that requires the most minimal amount of effort. This is why I have never beaten The Last of Us on any difficulty other than easy (well; other than I just suck at that game).

      • Full Options

xD Stay sure it was the last game I polished that deep. Konami has a tradition for hard roms but with well distilled difficulty, specially Kojima’s titles.
There are some games that funnily teach you other ways to progress through them with harder difficulties. Saw that first with Doom, whereas Karmack bros setup the game so you can pass levels easily if going faster to the goal. Kojima style for that is indeed slow Stealth / hide-and-seek in opposition.
In the ocean of shoot’em ups with scrolling directions of all kinds that Konami was proposing in the 80’s, Metal Gear was a so incredible revolution, where patience and discretion was tributed over dexterity (which was really required too :D). Also a great step forward for gaming AI where the machine could then have clearly several humors / behaviors towards the player (caution, alert…) instead of sprites simply rushing toward a space ship or basic racing game concepts.

    • Biggy

      You fu**ked fatman?

      • Full Options

Yeah, sorry, a way to say I defeated mister C4 on his rollers.
I should not have used this word because the sentence can clearly be interpreted in various and sometimes surprising ways… ;D

        • Biggy

Hey man it’s okay I thought I was the only one

          • Full Options

            xDxD

  • Good to hear MGS1 snake’s voice again after so many years, even I love the dialogue between snake and the colonel, far superior to the messy dialogs(monologues I might say) that plagued the series since MGS4
Since this is officially sanction by Konami, and Hayter has no love for Hideo too, is obvious we’ll hear DH voice snake again for the next Iphone game, the sequel to MGS touch

  • Jonny Tanna

As nice as this is, I don’t understand what the relevance of tieing the two products together?

  • Phosphobos

I’ve been out of the site for a long time, I just came back to comment in this new, it’s good to hear to David Hayter as SS again, i’ve missed him so much.

    • Gatsu

Welcome back bro :), even if it might be just a short visit :D. It’s good to hear him yeah.

  • quintimnia

my god.. my childhood car brand and my childhood game. my dad always bought a ford in the past, ( and still ) we were never interested in another brands like merc or bmw, he and i always stick to ford and now this.. it is so beautiful that those two comes together now. mgs and ford was my childhood, man! thats so nice.

    • Spiderman

Er that wasn’t old snakes voice…

      • Spectralbuttplug

Did you even fucking understand his comment before writing this
He’s not talking about the character called old snake
He’s talking about the good old nostalgic snake from 1998

        • JJBYACH

No need to be so aggressive. The way it was written suggests that he was talking about Old Snake:

“so you can still pull off the good old snake voice huh?”

Does he mean “good ol’ Snake” (which is what he should of wrote to avoid confusion, as that is where the phrase comes from), or does he mean “good Old Snake”? You see there are too correct ways of writing that statement and the OP missed both.

Peter Parker was just subtly pointing out how poorly written the statement was, he knew the guy wasn’t talking about Old Snake. You were the one who misunderstood his comment.

          • quintimnia

i was just going to say “good ol’ snake voice”, the original, mgs one, young ( not so young anymore eh? ), cold, careless, motherfucking badass solid snake voice. sorry for miswritin-g- guys. didnt think it’ll cause that much of a problem lol.

edit : added g letter to word miswritin.

          • Spiderman

My bad lads. I apologise if I sounded negative

          • Spectralbuttplug

I guess the dude got confused

        • Spiderman

so you can still pull off the good original snake voice huh?*

There fixed it. His comment didn’t make sense and it’s not upto me to ‘understand’ his comment

          • Spectralbuttplug

What a mess I made when it all went wrong

        • Mr. Sir Shpee

          that was uncalled for

          • Spectralbuttplug

            Wellllllll
            I guess that escalated quickly

  • Full Options

Apparently, we have MG fans also at Ford’s marketing department… 😀
Interesting, so Ford estimates that MGS players are old enough now to be a suitable target. Man, time is going so fast, I took 20 years more just by watching this vids haha… Like Riggs and Murtaugh would go “We are getting too old for this sh.t”… xD

What’s also cool is that it reminds Konami that this franchise has infinite resources and should really deserve the best care. Again, thanks mister Kojima…
What’s impressive is that we don’t really see the car, but 100% MG instead.
I think this operation can have success for Ford in trying to convince us that their brand is cool, but I won’t buy one unless they build a car looking like a MG REX, and of course…. Full Options 😀 (missiles, etc..).

  • Gatsu

This is pretty strange to hear his voice Ford ads, but also cool. Nice to see he can still do that younger SS voice, because many had doubted it during the years :).

    • Mr. Sir Shpee

Plot twist: they recorded the vocals back in 1998.
Alternative possibility: Hayter is a time-traveling wizard.

  • Remakes of all MG games in FOX engine confirmed.

  • Jav

    oh

    • stocchinet .

when you want to punch someone but you forgot your arm

  • Venom_Sina

What a nice way to confirm a game:

    • Spectralbuttplug

I guess you didn’t like Moby Dick

      • Venom_Sina

No,it was cool, too. But for some reason I really liked this one.

        • Spectralbuttplug

          Ok

        • Spectralbuttplug

The scenes ala metal gear and the music ?

        • Spectralbuttplug

Off Topic : Manchester United got its ass beaten by Tottenham
          3-0
3 Goals in 6 minutes lmao

I miss the old Fox logo so bad… (‘T’___’T’)
But love the new one 😀

  • BurntFM

I feel weird calling his MGS1 performance his Young Snake voice when in that game he’s already a retired veteran by the time Shadow Moses incident happened. I mean he wasn’t old he was in his early 30’s but when I think about young snake I think about him being the rookie in Metal Gear’s Operation Intrude N312 in Outer Heaven. I don’t know. Pointless comment is pointless. 😛

    • Spectralbuttplug

      *N313 ??????

  • moto hellogoto

Pretty good. Really reminds me how much I miss snake’s old voice!

  • Preston M Simpson

The one time selling out is okay, we get Hayter back and Campbell (who was retired because the Seiyu died), too.
