Kojima’s next game is going to be big in terms of emotional impact rather than scale

In an interview with Eurogamer’s Simon Parkin, conducted at the Nordic Game convention last week, Kojima talked about his new game and studio. He has stated before that he wants to keep creating big games, but he does not necessarily mean big as in large in scale.

“It’s not going to be ‘big’ in the sense of scale, but it will be in terms of emotional impact, I hope. I want the game to change its players’ lives in some way. We are independent, but we are aiming for the same kind of quality and scale as major teams out there.” Kojima also said it’s going to be a ”previously unknown type of game”, so something unique.

With his new studio he intends to develop these big games, but with a smaller team than in the past. In this, he realizes he will have to find a balance.

“I’m trying to find the middle ground between the super intricate, long-term work, and the fast production. We can’t wait seven years for my next game. But the danger is that if I try to rush it out, it won’t be what people want either.”

In order to be able to achieve this, Kojima is looking for a third party engine to use for his first project. “I also have to take into consideration the graphical style we want. Every game engine has its own slightly distinctive look, so it’s also a case of finding which one best suits the vision.
