Metal Gear Survive gets new images and info on base building

Gamescom 2017 has just begun, and Metal Gear Survive is playable for the general public for the first time. Konami has released some an new artwork, new screenshots and a bit of new information regarding the ability to build your own base. You’ll be tasked with managing resources such as crops and water, and even raising animals.

Game Overview:

Konami Digital Entertainment breaks new ground with an original spin-off from METAL GEAR SOLID V titled METAL GEAR SURVIVE. This title introduces a fresh spirit of exploration, unique mechanics and strategic co-op gameplay.

METAL GEAR SURVIVE is a survival action game in an alternative universe. In a struggle to survive, and understand this new environment, players engage in both a Single Play and connected CO-OP Play. In the battle for survival scavenged materials must be wrought into usable items, gear and weapons if you are to have any hope of making it home.

Key Features:

  • Two ways to play – Single Play and CO-OP Play. These modes are linked via Base Camp. Character progress and gear carries between the two modes.
  • Build and develop your Base Camp. This offers access to weapon and gear crafting. As well as offering you a command centre for planning missions in Single Play and CO-OP Play.
  • Gather resources for use in crafting including blue prints and raw materials. These can be gathered in Single play by exploring the environment or won in successful CO-OP missions
  • Develop Base camp with new facilities to aid survival – including crop growing, animal rearing, food and water storage. As your camp develops you’ll gain access to high grade crafting items.
  • Manage resources, including human essentials such as food and water as well as raw materials used for weapons, defences and expendables.

“There’s two ways to play – Single Play & CO-OP Play. Both linked via your Base camp so your character progression carries between the two!”

“Speaking of Base Camp; Build & develop yours for access to weapon & gear crafting & a command centre to plan your missions in both modes!”

“You can use your Base Camp to aid your survival by growing crops & rearing animals! Develop your base & get higher grade crafting items too!”

Additionally, Konami shared some pictures of the Metal Gear Survive booth on the show floor.

Metal Gear Survive will release early 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

I can only assume this is some sort of test for a possible Switch release. After all, the Switch is literally the same hardware as the Shield TV.

      Still no steam!

  • mcbennet

decent survival mechanics, but still can’t get over the zombie stuff

    • Eugene Voldo

      MGSV had zombies too :'(

      • mcbennet

yeah true..i mean i guess 4 did as well but they managed to fit it into the story line. this game is coming out so late that it would have been better off not being tied to PP/GZ at all, but oh well.

      • Ciro DeNiro

        MGS4 too…

    tower defense game how lame

  • SholidOnline

At least they admitted it’s not stealth, just survival action.

Still sucks though. Metal Gear was always stealth. Rising started the side game downfall. That could have been a good game without a Metal Gear based story.

    • Mr.Sixes

They do have stealth in there, people forget that the TGS demo showed clear stealth elements

      • SholidOnline

It had them “sneaking”, but the zombies do nothing but come after you. No strategies, no reinforcements, nothing.

        • Mr.Sixes

No strategie? yes, no reinforcmenets…? I’d say we’d have to wait until the final game or significant demo of the open world because for all we know attempting to take them on face to face may actually bring down a horde on you that you weren’t aware/that wasn’t there normally but spawned because you altered them. Nothing? …Unless you played that part I don’t believe you
