Kojima kicks off the new year with new artwork, plans to further surprise everyone in 2018

It’s 2018, and Kojima Productions has released a new artwork to celebrate the occasion.

“Happy new year 2018! May it be a great year for all of you. Thanks for all your support; it’s what keeps us going!”

Speaking of 2018, in an interview with Dengeki magazine in a section called ‘Creator Interviews’, Kojima had this to say:
“Development on Death Stranding is going well enough that SIE told us, ‘We have never before seen a game being created at such a fast pace.’ We are planning an announcement that will further surprise everyone in 2018.”

Happy new year everyone!

Yeah, that settles it, I like female Ludens more than Reedus (i mean, Kojima winkwink) Ludens

There is a reason for that uncovered leg and you all will be ashamed.

Hello everyone. I´m a big fan of this site and I was wondering if anybody is interested in playing PW for the 20,000 camaraderie trophy. I really can´t find anyone to play with these days. I´m a high skill player with everything unlocked so I won´t be a hassel. My PS ID is Solid_Walter. Thank you all and Happy New Year!

    • What are the requirements for the trophy? How long would it take?

      • Walter Palomino

We need 20000 camaraderie points, that depends on how well we play togather. If we S rank a hard mission and stick together the whole time we can get 650 points. So probably around 30 missions.

        • Hmm in that case you probably need a better companion because it would take really long.

          • Walter Palomino

OK Thank you anyway. I really appreciate it.

          • No problem! Hope you’ll able to get it somehow.

  • We are planning an announcement that will further surprise everyone in 2018.”

Release date? I still believe it is a 2019 game. Kojima is making an open world game. Probably not a huge one, but a detailed one. I hope that gameplay won’t suffer at all.

And I hope they are going to prepare to show us the gameplay. Even a cinematic version similar to this will do:

The Eyes, The Body, The Face (Profile) looks a lot like Elle Fanning, who by the way Kojima praised when talking about Neon Demon.

Likely hints towards the female lead reveal and which actress he’s got, now that we can rule out Joosten.

Gameplay reveal will very likely be at E3 2018.

But another trailer before could also be in the cards, like GDC 2018 in March.

As with when they debuted FOX, Kojima and Guerilla could do a panel on Decima and there Kojima could unveil a new trailer. Though I haven’t seen any listings for either of them.

But a trailer could be dropped between now and E3.

Now Given Yong’s Theory of the 5 Figures being Osiris and his “Familly” of 4, 2 Males (Haroeris & Seth) and 1 Female (Isis & Nephthys) Mads being either Osiris himself, or one of the other 2 Males…and seeing how the Female Ludence is not at all 1 of the Female “floating figures” we remain with 4 unannounced Actors for the villains alone, so Stephanie might not be ruled out after all.

Now, who might these 4 other actors be.

We already have 1 of the 3 Males (Mads) and no Female Villain reveal, so, we should focus on what are the 2 Actors and 2 Actresses he either had a dinner with, a public meating, or were hinted all this time, and by hinted, i eman fisted in our faces with no subtlety, hiding them in plain sight.

      Male:
1.Kevind Durand, he had an Official meating with him, and he posted quite a lot the emating, but not about what was actually talked during it.
      2. Ryan Goslyng, he kept prasing his performance in La-La-Land, and mentioning how amazing he was.

      Female:
1.Emma Stone: Need i say more?
2.Gal Gadot, but given her actual Status in Hollywood, he never talked directly about her, but shared almost everythhing she posted, and even wore her bracelets in in a photo, and knowing Joakim Mo..i mean Kojima, this is how the is doing a tease both subtle and in your face.

Now, let’s specualte on which is playign which.

My theory, is that Mads is not OSiris, but Seth.

Well Stephanie Joosten herself stated that she had no involvement in Death Stranding.

        http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=31058

So unless Kojima is still casting, which is possible (He’s only said that in terms of story script, the cast is complete), it is certain she’s not the female lead at this point as Kojima had been hinting he’d already chosen her a long while back, though other possibilities are still open for Joosten to return.

Yong’s video is great, and the idea that Kojima was interested in Egyptian myth was seen as far back as his conceptual pieces for Zone of the Enders 3 which didn’t get made. Death and Egyptian myths go together, as does a lot of Lovecraft; but as to whether whether the Egyptian gods themselves are actually involved, or some twist on them… it’s possible, but I’m not sure yet… I think there’s still a more sci-fi bent to it, and that the Egyptian influences are more for thematic purposes… but I wouldn’t rule it out.

I believe we’re missing out on something obvious with the hand-prints. They are heavily emphasized, and one wonders what exactly walks on its hands? Then there’s the big creature with the hands for a head. And looking back to the original PT concept trailer, we see the handprints and we see a big hand creature chasing you.

Hand-prints have been found in old rock art and cave paintings around the world. There are also smaller prints that are believed to be lizard’s feet.

Thematically, whether one uses the rope or the stick, both are inevitably tools of human hands.

Then there is the Middle Eastern symbol of the Hamsa, but this is far after the Egyptian period.

“The Hamsa Hand is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is a protective sign. It brings its owner happiness, luck, health, and good fortune.

The hamsa hand has a wide variety of different spellings which includes hamesh, hamsa, chamsa, and khamsa. It is also identified as the Hand of Miriam, Aaron and Moses’s sister, and the Hand of Fatima. The hamsa hand has two main styles. One style is shaped like a regular hand, and the other has two symmetrical thumbs. The second of the two styles is the most popular. The wearer of the hamsa hand can wear it facing up or down and it is believed to give the owner success, harmony, and protection from the “Ayin Ha’ra,” also known as The Evil Eye.

The hamsa hand meaning has a variety of interpretations, depending on the culture. The word, “hamsa,” derives its name from the five fingers on the hand. In Hebrew, the number five is “hamesh” and the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet is “Hey,” one of God’s holy names. “Hamesh” is representative of the five books of the Torah. In Judaism, it is also interpreted to be the Hand of Miriam, and symbolic of the owner’s five senses in an effort to praise God.

In Arabic, it is “khamesh.” In the Sunni culture, the hamsa is associated with the Five Pillars of Islam. For the Shi’tes, it symbolizes the Five People of the Cloak. In the Islamic faith, it symbolizes as The Hand of Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet Mohammed.

The hamsa hand sometimes includes an evil eye symbol, which is thought to protect against the evil eye. It is often worn as a pendant on a necklace but also is found on key chains, house decorations, baby carriages, and other jewelry items.”

But there are some ties to Egypt and before…

“Early use of the hamsa has been traced to ancient Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq). A universal sign of protection, the image of the open right hand is seen in Mesopotamian artifacts in the amulets of the Qāt Ištar / Inana. In that time, women were under immense pressure and expectation to become mothers. The women’s upbringing was centered on becoming a mother as an exclusive role, and it indicated child bearing as necessary. In addition, it was also thought marriage was a sense of protection for both the man and woman.

Other symbols of divine protection based around the hand include the Hand-of-Venus (or Aphrodite), the Hand-of-Mary that was used to protect women from the evil eye, boost fertility and lactation, promote healthy pregnancies, and strengthen the weak, and in the Buddha’s gesture (mudrā) of teaching and protection.

One theory postulates a connection between the khamsa and the Mano Pantea (or Hand-of-the-All-Goddess), an amulet known to ancient Egyptians as the Two Fingers. In this amulet, the Two Fingers represent Isis and Osiris and the thumb, their child Horus and it was used to invoke the protective spirits of parents over their child. Another meaning of this symbol relates to the sky god, Horus. It refers to the eye of Horus, which means man cannot escape from the eye of conscience. It says that the sun and moon are the eyes of Horus.

Another theory traces the origins of the hamsa to Carthage (Phoenicia) where the hand (or in some cases vulva) of the supreme deity Tanit was used to ward off the evil eye.”

As far as Egypt and hand symbols the hierogylph for it is explained –

“The ancient Egyptian Hand (hieroglyph) is an alphabetic hieroglyph with the meaning of “d”; it is also used in the word for ‘hand’, and actions that are performed, i.e. by the ‘way of one’s hands’, or actions.

An even earlier usage of hand can be compared to the sister hieroglyph: Hand-fist (hieroglyph). Five fists are held onto a rope bordering a hunt scene on a predynastic cosmetic palette.

The Hand as hieroglyphic also forms the word for ‘hand’ in the Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic language…

there is use of the Hand-hieroglyph as part of an important word that implies the use of ‘hands’, or ‘action’. ”

That’s all I can find, but it ties into the idea of protection, particularly of children, and considering as Yong points out a new hand print appears after you’re dead. And it directly ties into your actions as a player where things you’ve done remain persistent and death doesn’t return you to a previous checkpoint state.

Always appreciate that tactical lack of armor/clothes on left/right arm…butt-cheek 😉

    *off-topic*

This must be one of the most funniest rapid-fire interviews I’ve seen in gaming.

  • Now that 2017 is over, what are everyone’s favorite games of the past year?

    http://www.videogameshelf.com/?p=5210

    • Gatsu

      Great list Boss :D.

      My top 5:
      1. Horizon Zero Dawn
      2. The Evil Within 2
      3. LIS: Before The Storm
      4. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
      5. Resident Evil 7

I’ve bought quite many other games released this year too, like Nioh, Divinity 2 etc but the problem is I haven’t finished them ;D. Currently I’m finally continuing Nioh again ;).

I really hope there’ll be more stealth and horror games in the future, they’re something that we don’t get very often.

      • Yep, also a great list! 2017 had so many good releases it was impossible to play them all that same year.

        • Gatsu

Thanks :)! Yeah, there’s never enough free time to play it all XD. Lots of awesome games should come this year also. I’m looking forward to Detroit Become Human a lot and SotC remake, of course many others too :).

      • Divinity 2 is amazing, but imo you should wait a bit for few patches. It’s a GOTY material… but it is a bug fest. Some of the quests do not launch or work sadly.

    • 1) The Legend Of Zelda:BOTW
      2) Super Mario Odyssey
      3) Persona 5
      4) Resident Evil 7
      5) Nier: Automata

Honorable mentions: Divinity 2, NioH, Yakuza 0, Horizon:ZD and Destiny 2 (even though it has lots of end game problems and EVERVERSE, the core mechanics still is really fun.)

Nice list Nyx, but what about most anticipated games for the next year? 😉

    • Mr.Pony

      1) Hollow Knight (can’t stress how beautifull and fun it is to play that game)

    • MrVux000

Now this is quite a predicament for me. See even tho the only true masterpieces for me this year are Persona 5 and Nioh, Horizon:Zero Dawn made a bold/risky move with being a brand new IP with unique setting, i simply cant diminish that value.

If someone told me couple of years ago that i would love playing a post-post-apocalyptic game with main protagonist being some chatty redhead girl and that it has ROBOT dinosaurs in it, i would have slapped them silly and tell them to give me the good stuff they are drinking 😉

So to me personally i would give Horizon:Zero Dawn the GOTY award of 2017 with Nioh and Persona 5 sharing the second place.

      1)Horizon:Zero Dawn
      2)Nioh/Persona 5
      3)Uncharted:TLL
      4)Divinity original sin 2
      5)Total War: Warhammer II

Haven’t played the new Mario game tho, since i’m stuck on this metal tub.
