Kojima: MGSV will be more like a TV series rather than like a movie

When asked about cutscene length in his upcoming game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain by IGN, Hideo Kojima answered that it will feature less cutscenes than Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

“Since this time around we’re using an open world environment, Metal Gear Solid V will have less cutscenes than before. Because you’ll be exploring, you’ll have fewer opportunities to run into a cutscene that takes the control away.”

According to Kojima, if you think of the previous titles in the series as movies, The Phantom Pain will be more like a TV series with episodes.

“Each episode breaks down into a non-linear mission that eventually come together to complete the story we’ve designed. Ground Zeroes perhaps best represents this.”

sounds akin to the GTA series with its open world settings and episodic format. I’m liking this so far!

Oh god please don’t be anything like GTA. Metal gear is metal gear and gta is gta lets not mix them it would be horrible.

WTF!?!?I actually loved those *LONG* cut-scenes ….ahhh well, still the story gonna be awesome …..

    • Nyxus

I did too, but I’m sure this game will still have plenty of them.

i sure hope so….btw any news when can we expect a *proper* gameplay demonstration from kojima…?

        • Nyxus

          Maybe Gamescom in August.

I love them to but some of them were a tad to long in mgs4.
      now mgs3 had it perfect.

      • Nyxus

They were long but I honestly can say I found none of them too long. They were just too well made for that. 😉

I’m cool with this. I know there were quite a few parts in MGS4 I would have loved to have been playable. This open world environment will allow the game to let us play through more of the action scenes, then sit back and enjoy the dialogue-heavy parts. I think (or hope) this game will be divided into different acts but have us revisit some areas a time or two but with different patrol routes/objectives. I really missed the backtracking while playing through MGS4, everything was such a straight shot.

I’m so pumped for this game, I really hope it releases before the 2014 holiday…

    i don’t mind this.

i actually prefer if this was MGS2/MGS3 where the long cutscenes are converted to codec calls.

MGS4 is waaaay too long, just Snake meeting with drebrin can take up to 15-20 minutes.

in any case i can’t wait either way!!!!!!
