Preorders for MGSV: The Phantom Pain doing very well, PS4 Collector’s Edition most popular

Shortly after the announcement of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s release date and various editions, stores around the world have started taking preorders. Despite the fact that the game is still six months away, it quickly shot to the top spots on multiple web stores. Generally, the PlayStation 4 Collector’s Edition seems to be the most popular version, selling out quickly on large web stores such as Amazon and GameStop.

In the UK, the Collector’s Edition is exclusive to GAME, and is currently still in the list of top selling games for PS4.

On Amazon Germany and Amazon US the PS4 CE was the number 1 best selling game shortly after it became available. When it first appeared on Amazon US it sold out within the hour. A second batch of preorders was made available later that day, once again selling out in a short time.

In Canada, the PS4 CE was the number 1 selling game on Amazon as well, with the Xbox One version at number 9.

In Japan, the Special Edition for PlayStation 4 was the best selling game as well, but other versions did well too, claiming spots at 6 other places in the top 100.

The game is also doing well in France and Sweden (where the CE climbed to number 3 at Webhallen.se). In Italy, the PS4 CE is currently the top selling game at Multiplayer.com, followed by the PS4 Day One Edition at 12 and the XB1 CE at 15.

GameStop US opened preorders yesterday, and the PlayStation 4 Collector’s Edition sold out within 2 hours. After the dust had settled, both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version could be found at number 1 and 2 respectively).

These were just some examples, but it seems clear that the game is going to be very successful. Unfortunately a lot of people seem to have purchased the Collector’s Editions just to sell them on eBay for a profit. But let’s hope the majority of those preorders belong to the real fans.
