Troy Baker talks about Death Stranding: it’s weird, and it’s big

During the Argentina Game Show 2018, Troy Baker, who was announced as the actor playing the Man in the Golden Mask as this year’s TGS, answered some questions from attendees. One of them asked him what he could tell them about Death Stranding. Troy couldn’t go into much detail, so he mainly talked about his experience working with Kojima and Norman Reedus on this project.

“Norman and I shot for about two weeks on it, he’s super rad. He’s really throwing his all into this game. He’s got an amazing work ethic. [laughing] We had some interesting scene together that you guys have not even begun… it’s a huge game. The scope of the game is huge. If you know anything about Kojima, he doesn’t do small. It’s weird, and it’s big.”

Troy Baker was also impressed by Kojima’s ability to envision the entire project in his head, down to the smallest details.

“And it’s something that – I was fascinated to know this and I hope that it’s okay that I say this – he had the entire game in his head for, like, two years (some ridiculous amount of time, I may be wrong about the exact amount of time). Didn’t write any notes, just had it all up here [points at his head]. And if you ever wanted to ask him anything, he could go and he could tell you the exact fact. This was the same with Metal Gear. I’ve never had to work with someone who required more trust, because it’s like you’re going through it blind. And he assembled an incredible cast of people, to pull off a fantastical game.”

Troy wrapped up his answer with some finishing words, that didn’t do much to clear up the mystery surrounding this game.

“It’s trippy, it’s weird, I have no idea when it’s coming out. I believe I’m finished shooting, so I think my role and everything… I believe Norman is finished as well but I could be wrong. I just want to play it. Just want to play it.”

Previously, Kojima has alluded to a 2019 release date for the game, but nothing has been officially announced so far. We may hear more of the project at this year’s Game Awards, which take place early next month.
