Reviews indicate Rising is a good game, but doesn’t top Metal Gear Solid 4 or Peace Walker

With Metal Gear Rising Revengeance officially released in the US (and the rest of the world soon to follow), reviews for the game have been pouring in in large numbers. They point in the direction of Metal Gear Rising being a good game, but not quite up to par with other installments released this generation, such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Most reviews seem to be in the 7 / 8  out of 10 segment, with a Metacritic average of 80 (on PlayStation 3) and 82 (on Xbox 360) at the moment. On GameRankings the Xbox 360 version scores 83.60% and the PlayStation 3 version 77.75%

Of course, reviews are just personal opinions in the end, but the general consensus seems to be that Metal Gear Rising is an enjoyable game, but it doesn’t top the other games in the series. Which is difficult to do, given the praise those titles have received. Keep in mind that things can still change as more reviews appear online.
