Ever seen a motion capture sword?

This may be slightly old, but still interesting to see. During the motion capture of the car chase scene that was recorded for Metal Gear Rising a few days ago, Yuji Korekado (the man in charge of the game) posted some photos on his Twitter. The most interesting one being this one, of a wooden katana with motion capture markers on it:

Additionally, he posted some other pictures of the motion capture session.

    I wonder why it only has 4 sensors and why in those places, I would have imagined something that would cover the length of the sword at least but I’m no expect  in these things I guess 😛

      I guess it’s easy for the computer to calculate the rest of the shape based on those four points, since the sword is straight and static anyway.
