Kojima on MGSV: Large scale mo-cap is done, but there is still a lot of work to do

Kojima talked a little about the motion capture process for the Metal Gear series in general, and for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in particular.

“If it were movie creation, post-production and editing will follow after shooting, plus adding audio but since it is game we have a lot to go. But still I feel content as this is the 1st end of phases. This time it took over a year including auditioning, 3D capturing, military training, reading, rehearsing and shooting.

We have been doing Mo-Cap for over 14 years ago but every time we’d done a new challenge. This time we hired foreign actors except stuntmen. They were wide variety of actors from America, UK, France, Holland, Hungary etc. We used neutral language to communicate but the emotion was tightened as one.

Lots of memories I have but the most memorable one is children actors. They have grown so fast during Mocap session and they now look more mature. Different sense of time from being adult indeed.

Such a large-scale Mo-cap is all done, but the game itself needs more time to be completed. We still need to shoot game motion, in addition to voice recording, facial capturing. And moreover implementing those tremendous volume of data takes tremendous amount of time and effort.”

It seems like fans will have to wait a little longer, if not a lot. Also, voice recording still needs to be done for the game. In any case, it seems like MGSV is a massive project indeed.

So there’s more than one child actor, wich MAYBE means theres more than one child character. I wonder, besides Chico and “Psycho Mantis”, who would they be?…

    • My best guess is young Solid and Liquid Snake, they’d be a little over 10 years old

      • It might be delayed though. I wouldn’t expect it before the latter half of 2014.

        • I agree. I think we will see the game in December or in 2014. From a business perspective it is a much better thing to do because of GTA’s, CoD:Ghosts and other stuff that is already announced for this Christmas + Next Gen consoles.

          • Yes, and they want to spread the Metal Gear titles, this year we’ve already had Rising, and The Legacy Collection. What is more, I don’t think the game will be finished yet this year.

          • To be honest, I hope Kojima will actually finish MGSV in 2014. They have still a lot of work to do.

    • It’s rumored Ground Zeroes will release early 2014 and The Phantom Pain will be released at the end of Konami’s fiscal year in 2015. I think The Phantom Pain might be released earlier than that, but as Kojima said, there’s a lot more work to do.

has leaked out the date ahead of time. Their website claims that Ground
Zeroes will be available on September 13, 2013. What makes this leak
interesting is the fact that ShopTo previously leaked out the date for
Crysis 3, which proved to be right.

Definately not September 2013, Metal Gear is a great series but doesn’t have the power to go against GTA V. I don’t think any game or developer has the numbers to go against a GTA release.
As for the Legacy Collection, it’s nothing more than a monetary tactic. If they would have put MGS1 to disc I might have considered, but many of us have that collection a couple times over.

    • Yeah, the art book might make it worth it though.
