Kojima talks about the inspiration behind the voice of Metal Gear Solid V’s iDroid
On Twitter, Kojima talked about the inspiration behind Metal Gear Solid V’s talking device, the iDroid.
Donna-san’s iDROID computer voice in MGSV wasn’t inspired from HAL9000 in 2001 A Space Odyssey but the female computer voice in Dark Star. But since none at the shooting studio knew Dark Star, I explained to be like mother computer in Alien, created by the same guy, Dan O’bannon.
As you probably all know, the voice is provided by Donna Burke, who also did several songs for the game, including the Sins of the Father song that can be heard in the E3 2013 trailer. Dark Star is a science fiction movie from the 70s, and references to 2001 A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick can be found throughout the series (Hal Emmerich is named after HAL and David (Snake) named after the movie’s protagonist), and Peace Walker has several references to the film as well.
Does anyone else know that the singing AI pod on Peace Walker is Hatsune Miku?

Was the voice from ZEKE also Hatsune Miku? Fun fact: I tried to make ZEKE say “Kiss my ass!” whenever he used a particular attack but the damn thing kept saying “Kiss my uhhh!”.

Yeah, it can. You had to connect your psp to the internet and you could basically enter sentences for each attack and they would be somehow converted to vocaloid. ZEKE then would utter that sentence as he used the attack attributed to it. Did you play PW in psp or in ps3? I only have the psp edition, I dunno if it is the same with the ps3 edition…
nope, it isn’t available on the ps3 version :c when i played the game (which i did for the first time on ps3) i got very curious about the humming of AI pods because i instantly recognized it and thought it was vocaloid software so i searched on the net and found out about the feature you say, and then realized it isn’t on the ps3 version which is a shame :c

I love it so far. Looked big for a medium but it was just right once i got it on. Quality material and the image on the back looks almost a patch or embroidered. Only thing im not immediately happy with is for some reason the neck it pretty tight. Kind if odd.

Little Off-Topic: Saw Terminator Genisys a couple days ago, and i’ll have to say, as a Long Time Terminator Fan i liked it, not loved it, but liked it, it was a great Movie, is not the Piece of Garbage Media made me think it is.
Now the biggest complain people have with it, is the convoluted Story, but you know who did not just just didn’t find the Story Convoluted, but understood the whole Story, THIS GUY, (Me) and you know why, because of Metal Gear, thanks to this Franchise, and the way its story was always told, trained my mind to understand any Convoluted Story, Video Games and Movies, my mind got so used to Kojima’s Convoluted Storytelling, that i had all the fun i was supposed to have from this Movie.
TL;DR: If you like Hideo’s storytelling, you will have no problem understanding Genisys, and you will have a lot of fun, don’t let the miss cast of Jay Courtney and Jason Clarke get in the way of the excitement, Go see this Movie, especially if you are an Arnold Fan like me (His Best T-800 Performance so far) and/or love complicated stories that require a lot of thinking and concentration to understand them.
Now, if they decide to make a Sequel to this, then they better get the Expert, the God of Convoluted Story telling to Write it and Direct it, of course i’m talking about Hideo, he left Konami, probably the Gaming industry, so why not, why not try for real to make a better Terminator than Cameron’s first 2 Movies, if there is someone that could do that, is HIDEO!

I agree. Because of growing up playing the Metal Gear series. I have no problem understanding complicated stories, shows etc. especially with sequels and such.

Dark Star is a great movie and love Carpenter’s movies :). Kojima sure got awesome taste <3.
Another reference to 2001 is found in Peace Walker when The Boss sings a song before get deactivated, just like the computer HAL does when the main character in the film shuts it down.
