Kojima wants us to guess MGSV’s story theme, posts another picture from the trailer
Kojima has asked his fans to try to guess Metal Gear Solid V’s story theme. So far, the right answer has not been given yet.
Here is the question asked by Kojima:

Gene(MGS1)->Meme(MGS2)->Scene(MGS3)->Sense(MGS4)->Peace(MGS PW)->???e（MGSV)
A bit later he gave a small clue:
Many of you answered “LOVE” but it’s not the answer. From my editing room.
He added:
The answer isn’t “Love”, “Hope”, or “Fate”. Question Gene(MGS1)->Meme(MGS2)->Scene(MGS3)->Sense(MGS4)->Peace(MGS PW)->???e（MGSV)
So this word ends with an ‘e’, and consists of four letters, going by Kojima’s hints.
A few days ago Kojima posted a similar screen:
So can you guess the theme with these few clues? According to Kojima, no one guessed right (so far):
Gene (MGS1) → Meme (MGS2) → Scene (MGS3) → Sense (MGS4) → Peace (MGS PW) →???e (MGSV). The answer at E3. Unfortunately, there was no correct answer person.
The trailer will be shown at Konami’s pre-E3 show on June 6.

I think the answer is “Hate”.
Could be. Or some word he has totally made up (Revengeance anyone?) and is just fooling around with us, haha!
Agree. I think this is maybe where we go from seeing Big Boss portrayed as a hero to a villain. Granted, a sympathetic villain.

I think the answer has to fit into the “For (the)….???e” formula. My guess–Game.

I think either FATE if its a 4 letter word. Or if more than 4 letters the theme could be CHANGE.
FATE: we all know big boss’ Fate since this is set in the past. He will create Outer Heaven.
CHANGE: above theory kinda applies. Big boss will change from what we’ve known of him so far since MGS3 into the big boss he will become once he builds Outer Heaven.
Well these are only my speculations so who knows. Can’t wait for e3!

I believe the two screen shots are clues. The “Not for…x” could refer to Big Boss’s motivation for founding Outer Haven. Not for Love, Not for Hope, Not for Fate, but for (the) ???e.
What is an answer to why Big Boss starts Outer Haven that fits this formula?
To be ‘free’ maybe?
It makes sense conceptually, though “free” doesn’t really work with the formula. One can say in English, “for free,” but that means gratis, i.e., no cost. That would be one heck of an announcement though- MGSV is for FREE!
I read something on a discussion board on this topic that fascinated me though. The poster pointed out that every MGS game has taken a theme that starts with one of the letters in the game title’s acronym. Gene takes the G from MGS, Meme the M, Scene the S. Then MGS4 takes the S again with Sense, and MGS PW uses the P for Peace. Now this gets extra interesting when you consider what Kojima did with the title for this game–he added a letter, V.
So following this logic we might guess the answer starts with V. “For (the) v??e”
Bro I was thinking the exact same thing. Not all of the themes are 4 letter words so lets not ge too wrapped up in that (take peace for example). The V is definitely connected to the theme of the game. I’m thinking it will stand for Vengeance. I know that was heavily used in the campaign for MGS Rising, but for some reason it just fits. You got big boss betrayed in all sorts of ways in this upcoming game and it’s only natural he’ll want revenge. Revenge (Vengeance) is also one of the main themes of Moby Dick, a book that is also inexplicably connected to the game.

I was going with the 4-letter word because Kojima posted three question marks followed by an ‘e’. But you’re right, that doesn’t necessarily mean it has to have 4 letters, of course.
Perhaps VICE could play into it. Everyone has a Vice, or something like a bad habit about them. Maybe BB picks up a couple of bad Vices in MGSV heheh.

A vice is a bad habit that everyone may have. Like smoking cigarettes is a vice. Drinking a lot can be another vice. Basically anything that is a bad habit.
The sentence could be ‘But to be free’, or something similar. But I get what you’re saying.

It’s not fate, Kojima already confirmed this. Hate could still be it though.
Sorry guys to keep posting, but I’m obsessing over this. What about TIME? There is the prominently featured watch in the trailer pics. Certainly time is going to be huge in this game, with Big Boss’s coma and the day-night cycle.

i dont think is only 4 word all the theme beside peace have long words but only shorted it. but if is really 4 word the only 5 word that hang in my mind is (LIFE,LIVE,NAME,HATE,TIME)
And if is more than 4 word in short im thinking if is (FREE)= FREEDOM but then this dont make sense
