Meet Big Boss’ canine buddy: DD the wolfdog
During the third day of the Tokyo Game Show, Hideo Kojima showed a new gameplay demo for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Earlier he demonstrated how Quiet can be your companion during missions. But during this new demo, he revealed another kind of buddy: a wolfdog!
At some point during the mission, Snake comes across an orphaned puppy. He decides to give him a new home at Mother Base.
We see time pass and the dog has grown. Ocelot has trained him, and the animal is called DD (Diamond Dog). Since it’s missing one eye, the dog is now wearing an eye patch, just like Big Boss. He jumps into the helicopter and departs for a new mission together with Snake.

Question, are we even sure that D.D. is elderly? Most likely it’s about a few years old. Not to mention its still energetic compared to an old dog.

Seeing Big Boss shirtless made me realize how quiet is actually similiar to BB. Hair color, ponytail, the glove/sleeve on the left arm resembling BB’s prosthetic arm and Snake is also pretty quiet in this game.
It’s part of the whole mirror thing. Every character, one way or another, mirrors Big Boss. Whether physically or psychologically, or both. Ocelot, Kaz, Skull Face, Quiet, DD…
Even Glaz and Palitz. ^^
Maybe Kojima is trying to appeal to female players…?

lol I was too tired too.. I fell asleep during the last few minutes of the 20min gameplay. I was wondering when it was gonna end.. With that said, I don’t remember this cutscene. I know there was a fashion show after the gameplay demo.

The Dogs Meme is used when something is Incredible and Amazing, but some people confused it with Sarcasm, “Much Stealth, So Sneaking” on a Doge Meme is not Sarcasm, is the Doge being amazed by the Subject Quality!

i really hope they don’t try to do too much with this game where it becomes TOO MUCH and loses its way. I hope it all fits and just gives us more to do like RDR, while adding to that and make it so things don’t get boring too easily. In short, I hope it doesn’t end up being a clusterfuck with all this content.
So far we have a woman and a dog as a buddy, and possibly a child. I like where this is going.

This is beyond cool especially since I love animals. I have a cat in the vet right now and I’m not sure if he will be ok so I’m really worried but this scene kind makes me feel better for some reason.
Worderful things are being shown. I would never expected TPP to be so deep. This just keeps getting better and better. For me, it blows anything else out the water. Kojima said he was amazed by the Division and GTAV? What the f? Kojima, have you seen MGSV? God, he’s away all the time, and hasn’t seen what KJP have created. No GTAV nor Division is close to compete with you.

I always liked the eye patch theme, but kojima is overdoing it imo… Gray fox has eye scar, solidus lost an eye, raiden lost an eye, solid snake gets solid eye, and now the dog with an eye patch? I don’t like it tbh

Erk, comment screwed up. Anyway, curiously, around a year ago, Kojima said that Kurt Russell was approached at one stage for the role of Snake, but a satisfactory agreement could never be reached for both parties, so presumably it was Kojima’s idea to just cut out the middle man entirely before Avi Arad suggested he ask Sutherland about it.

I’m glad we get a bunch of options for helpers on missions, but I still hope we can call in another player in some sort of PW like co-op. I hope it’s not just Mother Base infiltration. Peace Walker was flawed in that only people close by could play together, I think it’s called ad-hoc. Which was weird because that wasn’t the case for Portable Ops + online. Then, by the time the HD collection came out and you could play co-op like regular online games, no one was playing Peace Walker anymore.
I swear to god if DD dies…i will go full demon mode on all of them!!!

Having DD is just awesome! Dogs, in general, have been a staple in MGS since MG on the MSX. If I’m not mistaken, the only MGS games without any dogs are MG2SS, MGS2, 4, PW, and GZ. Shit, even Portable Ops had dogs!

DD is an Optional Character, if you don’t fulton him in time he may die, so you won’t get those cutscenes, same for Quiet, Hideo Confimred that not everyone will find Quiet!
