NPD March 2014 results: MGSV Ground Zeroes sells 278.000 copies in the US

The NPD announced the US sales charts for March 2014, and analyst David Gibson provided some additional details from Konami on Twitter.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes managed to sell 278.000 copies in the US last month. This lands the game at the sixth place in the sales charts. Of that number, 204.000 are for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game sold 304.000 copies in Japan. All these numbers only account for retail sales, as digital sales are unknown at this moment.

European numbers are still unknown, but we do know the game did well in some individual countries.

Awesome, i hope this means TPP will come out soon!!!!

    • MrVux007

Kojima already gave us the info that TPP will release from late 2014 to late 2015 ….

      • Zero

Spring 2015 seems plausible!! The wait is killing me and i have completed GZ 100% on 2 consoles (Ps3, Ps4)

        I need mooooore hehe

        • MrVux007

          I hear you bro……i ….cant ………..handle……..the ITCH!!!!

  • Batzi

The day will come when people will realize how important of a role GZ played in making TPP a success! Can’t wait to get my hands on it!

    • prothy

I want TPP to be so good so that everyone who didn’t buy GZ regrets it.

      • No Place For Hayter

There obviously will be a bundle that includes both MGSV-GZ and MGSV-TPP when TPP comes around so people will be able to buy the full game in one go, it would suck for people not to have played the prologue or not have the prologue for the game they just bought, I hope that people don’t regret buying GZ because that would suck, many people have many reasons for not buying GZ probably a big reason would be waiting for a GZ/TPP bundle which makes prefect sense especially considering the controversy surrounding GZ and its size, and for people who are worried and didn’t buy it will be able to get it with TPP in one buy thus makes the size of GZ and its sudden story end not matter because they will have TPP in the same purchase.

        • prothy

Yeah but what I wanted to say is that I want TPP to be the next best game ever.

  • Risev

Well, if we assume the game sold 200k in Europe, then that means the game sold ever 750k in March alone. Add the digital numbers, and the game probably sold over a million in less than two weeks. I’d say that it is a pretty good number for a game that had so much negativity surrounding it, and people knew was a short game.

    • glitchbomb

It’s weird. I wonder if all the attention ended up helping them in the end.

  • César H. Sandoval

So, is that a good or bad number compared to other games in the franchise?

After all, we all know that mostly MGS fans were the ones who bought GZ.

    • It’s pretty good for this series, considering it’s not one of the mega sellers. Usually total sales are around 4-5 million on average (MGS1 and 2 sold the most).

      • César H. Sandoval

        Hideo must be proud then.

Still, the waiting for TPP is so long…

      • Janeo

Yeah I think they will be happy with these sales there was so much negativity toward this game and it is selling well. Plus I think a lot of people would have gone fir the cheaper digital copies I did plus europe would have sold a lot and GZ will keep selling as TPP gets closer. I’m hoping TPP can be the best selling game we already know it will get at least over mgs4 which was impressive sales for an exclusive game who could watch the e3 trailer and not wanna play this game so many people would have been won over from that plus we will be getting more awesome trailers soon. I’m guessing it will get around 15million sold but I’m hoping for 20

  • Kamille

nearly a million for a $40 demo, this is not good. In fact, it’s scary the trends that this release could help to stimulate thanks to the blind sheeps.

    • $40… not even the most expensive version was $40. And thanks for calling many people here ‘blind sheeps’.

      • glitchbomb

The internet is a constant reminder that some people are just severely dense. Too bad you can’t implement a sort of I.Q filter to keep all the dumb fucking mouth breathers out. 😀

    • The Solid Grape

First of all, I’m not a proper member here but im always watching(passively but yes) and i don’t really comment here that much but i really needed to comment for this stupid reason alone.
Secondly, I’m sorry but saying its “setting a trend” is rubbish.A few games i know like Grand Turismo do it with nearly every game(GT:Prologue so and so), Dead Rising 2:Case Zero and even a hell lot of games out there i don’t really remember right now. This is a useless assumption and while your a 100% right to be concerned IT WONT HAPPEN!(The mysterious “trend i mean) I get some people don’t want to buy something thats this short for this amount of money(£30-£19 where i live) especially if they’re not huge fans of the series already and also those who don’t like to replay games but don’t start calling people idiots for just because they didn’t conform to your(And in this case stupid) beliefs. So if you want to say something like that just head on over to the Angry Joe Ground Zeroes Review comment section and join others with the same views as you because you aren’t gonna find many(if not any) people here like that. I know you might be legitimately concerned but dont be and especially dont insult people who actually like the game.
But im just a guy on the internet and in the end you don’t have to listen to me for all you know i could just be a computer program or even dare i say it………the GW A.I!
      I NEED……SCISSORS 61!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • No Place For Hayter

To be fair he said “it’s scary the trends that this release could help to stimulate” which is only being worried about the fact that it might hold bolster smaller trends that are already there, he didn’t say that it was creating a new strong trend, he was worried it might bolster and give rise the small trends that are already there, like you said yourself it is there with things like Grand Turismo and Case Zero, I am worried too that it might make these small trends larger and knowing people it will still sell a huge amount, which shows that they can sell less for the same price and still sell a lot which is both dangerous and makes it impossible for the people who don’t want to spend money on content that small to buy what they consider to be a “full game”.

Because MGS is a very large, very popular, and very important franchise a lot of people and companies will notice what it does and how it does it, so something like MGS doing something will get it noticed by people whether it be good or bad. But even though I hate it and I am partially worried I am not worried a lot, considering the controversy surrounding GZ I doubt any company will be too quick to jump on board that train when it is that openly hated by that many people.

        • The Solid Grape

I understand the issues and while it could potentially create a “trend”, im fairly confident it wont especially with all the backlash as well. I hope i didnt come off as a bit harsh in the last comments but im trying to make it as fair as possible

    • César H. Sandoval

If you are still calling Ground Zeroes a demo and saying it costs $40, it shows how little you know about the actuall thing.

      • No Place For Hayter

        I agree about the $40 point, 🙂

KONAMI played us like a DAM FIDDLE!!!
and all we can do now is play the same map with different weather and some different objectives withour relevance to the plot… but is so addictive… so much I grinded the S-ranks… and felt so empty because I didn’t got a bonus or anything just a new gun… =(
anyways my point is the peace walker demo was free and had more cutscenes than ground zeroes.. it also had a “boss” battle..

    • No Place For Hayter

KONAMI played a lot of people like a fiddle, me included, though the sound they got from me was not one they wanted, lol.

  • PrinceHeir

Wow Japan manages to top the US and maybe the EU?

Though Phantom Pain is probably the more anticipated title.

Still i’m surprise Japan came on top for this game. The game’s price and various editions of the game(I don’t think anyone outside of Japan has gotten any special edition or somesorts compared to Japan)

Glad it came on top. Though it is scary to think that a prologue game can sell so much.

I’ll be waiting this summer for the right moment to play the game.
