Kojima at Comic-Con: new MGSV action figure unveiled

Comic-Con is San Diego is about to begin. Hideo Kojima will be there for an autograph session, together with Final Fantasy’s Tetsuya Nomura. Several Metal Gear figures will be on display at the show, including the exclusive bronze colored Venom Snake statue.

Surprisingly, Kojima also unveiled a new one: a flaming figure that appeared in The Phantom Pain’s hospital scene. Apparently this character is important enough to the story to warrant its own figure.

Also check out the Skull Face figure, which can now be seen in color for the first time.

    Python? :oo

But the way he’s holding the bullets in his hand are the same way as Volgin, and while it looks like the portable ops sneaking suit the legs are of a similar design to Volgin’s suit. The facial scarring also looks somewhat similarly placed but not identically.

    Any other speculations?

    • Venom Snake

Nope, Volgin is the only possible speculation!

      • Kan

or like i said it could be snake looking at him self in the future of what he is becoming

        • No Place For Hayter

Dude, bullets in between his fingers. Why would a vision of snakes future self have a volgin trade mark? even in relation to volgin, Big Boss is becoming nothing like what volgin was, so the fact that the fiery figure has a volgin trade mark would make no sense and be a complete misunderstanding of Big Boss’s character and Volgins if the fiery figure was indeed a vision of snakes future self. In other words my opinion is “100% nothing else fits or makes sense”

    • PrinceHeir

Would be cool if it’s Python ^^

  • ObsessedGeorge

This is Volgin’s phantom as we can not only see that he holds the bullets on his left arm, but also the bullet belt on his chest. Basically his whole body is pierced by bullets.

Anyway, my next tweet is off topic but since this is an article about Comic-Con, l think is worth sharing.

In that case how do you explain Guts?

  • Venom Snake

This is Definitely Demon Volgin, look at the Bullets between his fingers!

    • Ian Reay

also look at the bullet type strap from his shoulder to his waist same as volgin

      • Venom Snake

Thanks for mentioning, didn’t saw it at first!

    • No Place For Hayter

I was about to say the same thing the moment I saw the figure “Bullets in between fingers = 100% Volgin”. Not like I needed the bullets to know that it was demon volgin.

      • Venom Snake

Yeah, i knew since the Phantom Pain 2012 Trailer, when it wasn’t even confirmed to be a Metal Gear Game i knew that was Volgin, which made me believe that was a MGS Game, and it turned out to be true, both of them!

  • Cartmangus

I was never a big Volgin fan, not from a character or design standpoint. That said I Think he looks pretty fucking baller now, the fact that he has no face is disturbing looking as fuck. My bets on how he’s “alive” in this game (if it is him) is that it’s probably through Psycho Mantis, “Those who don’t exist”.

    • crimsonfox

I gotta say, using the word “baller” to explain something has to be the most baller shit ever. You win…your prize? this vide

  • Golgari

Volgin or not.. Who cares? He is ON FUCKING FIRE and Snake’s butt will be on fire too. The boss is going to be great that’s for sure but for now you can enjoy a small glimpse of the new character model for MGSV. Get ready your fire extinguishers people.

  • PrinceHeir

Love the Play Arts exhibit 🙂

My favorite is Ground Zeroes Suit Snake 🙂

  • LukesAlike

    No way! VOLGIN. ‘:0

  • Invader_skoodge

This might be a bit off topic but I found this great Volgin GIF

  • I kinda like that they reduced quiet’s breasts but, there’s something wrong with her lips… looks to cartoony or something

  • grapes9h5

So its pretty clear its Volgin now.

  • so, it was volgin after all, i wonder what’s the name in the figure description though.

it looks really cool, i usually dislike these play arts kai a lot, i only had hopes for the venom snake while he wasn’t painted but i don’t like at all how he came out, except for the camo pattern, that’s really well made

    • Eric Otness

Apparently it calls him “Man on Fire.” According to Solid Boss, that was given for spoiler reasons, which strongly suggests its going to be a pretty big role.

      • mhh that’s interesting… i’m really curious about this character now, because if he is important enough to get a figure that would mean that his role would be bigger as you say, and i always thought that he would only be a vision made by big boss during the hospital scene we have been shown, it seems to me now that he might be appearing through the whole game
