Although, I do think that the narrative is going to be very different. Like in one of them it says that the story stays mostly in the cassettes .. I dont mind it, I like the ability to craft your own story but I think Kojima went for STORY-IN GAMEPLAY rather than STORY in CUT scenes.

Great choice of editing for the final trailer. Just a great soundtrack, no singing, just a great narrative voice over throughout. My fears about the story being “meh” has been laid to rest.

No that was a fan myth. The highlighting of the green video in MGS1 makes it look light, but is only monochromatic shading. He just cuts it so it is shorter to distinguish himself.

The very last scene suggests it when he is right behind Boss.. like almost like he IS HIM.. so much so that .. nobody notices him despite him being the reason to MB’s destruction in GZeroes..
Notice at the end of the trailer where the dolsiders are face the new MG, as the camera goes around behind Big Boss Skull face shows and and as he turns around he is not there anymore.
If you notice when the soldiers are glaring at the new MG while Snake is facing the camera, as the camera pans out Skullface is not there clearly. As BB turns his head around Skullface appears.

Up til now I’ve been kind of worried we’ve been receiving a little much info regarding MGSV. After this trailer I’ve come to realize we’ve barely scratched the surface. I liken it to trying break open rock with a pick axe. Til now we’ve been scratching and cratering the surface but with some of the footage in this trailer it’s like we may have just made a small but somewhat deep crack into the rock that is the mystery of MGSV TPP’s story. My hype meter is about to blow. Could not thank you enough Kojima-San!!!

Yes he was, if replay MGS1 you can see in the briefing videos where Solid Snake is in a cell. He has a long blonde hair, but cuts it short and change color to black. To distinguish himself from the enemy units leader.

Actually, this was retconned in MGS The Twin Snakes for game cube. Solid Snake’s hair’s brown even in the briefing videos.

Have you guys noticed that at the very beginning, when Snake walks the hall, his horn grows and the light becomes more and more dim? As if implying that what Skullface is saying (“with each post, I changed too, my personality, how I saw right and wrong”) is not actually about himself, but about Snake.
The way I see it from this trailer, Skully is a hallucination put into BB’s head by Zero (“words to control the subconscious”) to torment him and bring the worst in him.
Venom Snake is tormented by “Phantoms”, I think there are more hallucinations besides Skull Face to drive Venome Snake simply mad

I know I should be happy as hell to see this new metal gear solid V the phantom pain trailer today, but today I am so fucking pissed off guy’s. It has nothing to do with the phantom pain trailer that cause me to be this angry, which I give thanks by the way to Kojima sensei, E3 & Nyxus for showing us this beautiful new trailer. My anger has to do with people of today in general, since this very morning after I clocked in at work 4:00am, my day has been a living fucking hell. The whole day I’ve been trying to be nice to people including my friends, but out of no where I’ve been getting this, I don’t want to talk to you vibe, stay the fuck away from me vibe and what the fuck are you looking at vibe the whole damn day. I even tried to avoid all these people today in order to make the situation better, but know matter what the hell I do, I keep walking into these people and getting that same vibe from them. It has gotten to the point where is literally driving me fucking crazy, hell just talking about it is making more angry right now. Is it just me or have you guy’s been getting this feeling lately, because I’ve been getting this in the pass two years or so from people, I feel like in these days people are growing more cold hearted then they use to be back in the 90’s. In today times people are showing no remorse for each other, not carrying about there friend or family problems or needs, not carry about anything in general at all. Guys please tell me that I am the only one who is getting this feeling, remember in the 90’s where people showed a lot a love for each other and actually cared if a friend or family member was going threw something. Hell even back then people didn’t had to know each other and they would still care about that person in general, what I’m trying to get at is, in these days people literally don’t care about anything no more, the love of most has grown cold. Being surrounded by this kinda feeling makes me sick and very weary every day, I’m getting to the point where I don’t want to care about people anymore, or anything in that matter. The heartless heatress that is coming from people hearts is literally killing slowly, this is the reason why I didn’t feel so excited watching the phantom pain today. In the new trailer where big boss was walking down the hallway, the trailer was showing his old self being peeled away until there was nothing left but this dark and evil bloody horn looking big boss. I feel exactly like that right now, when big boss looked in the mirror and saw that there was no more jack left in him at all, he smash the mirror to confirm that he will never be that person ever again, even if he could try there would be to much pain and bad memories that he’d have to relive. I feel like I am turning into something very evil because of all this hatred I’m surrounded by, but thanks again buddy for making me feel like I matter in this world.

i used to play and talk with them for hours ,now with luck i see them 1 day per month and most of your interaction is going to watch a movie and eat something ,talk a little about the movie and good bye.
i dont know if people are getting more cold or im becoming boring or i have to move on and look for new friends ,i dont want to think too much about it , because maybe is all in my head and they actually care about me .
what im trying to say , dont jump to conclusion too quick , just think what you want from them and if they keep ignoring you ,talk with them to see what is going on , dont attack them , just ask them and if they keep giving you the cold shoulder …well time to move on.

I actually feel more optimistic about a more silent Big Boss after this trailer. With a big theme of the game being language and the power of it, Kojima probably has some interesting reasons and ideas behind making Boss more of a silent protag, beyond it just being because of past traumas. I’m looking forward to seeing how all of this unfolds.
With all the news of cutscenes being trimmed down, I’m hoping he hasn’t shown most of them across all of these trailers, lol. Great fucking choice in music for the trailer too, my favorite since “Not Your Kind of People” from back in 2012.

I’m going to go with the theory that Big Boss’s horn extension is all in his head, I think that there is something stuck in his head but its extension is simply a hallucination, I think this because I personally do not believe he would live if something of that size was impeded in his head, and that its extension is random at best, for example the end scene in this trailer that shows Skull Face as being a hallucination at the time, seems very late game as it also shows DD having a large incredibly cool Metal gear of there own, but in this late game scene Big Boss’s horn is just as big as it always has been, if it was growing out or climbing out of his head it would do so slowly and we would see progress, but here a scene which is obviously at least mid way through the game it is just as small as it was in the beginning.
Yes I think he is imagining the size of the horn too, as he becomes a demon. It almost go through his skull/brain when so long so it can’t be real.

That would be crazy in a unique way, lol, but I’m pretty sure that would kind of work against the image that Kojima is creating as far as his decent into being a demon, having something weird like that on his head pulls people in the wrong direction. Also the stuff at 2:57 is probably just stuff being shot out of the ground and not so much growing as it is being pushed up or away from something.

i think it was said on the last previews that The man who sold the world by Bowie was in the game for you to listen on the walkman. but this cassette adds “From” at the beginning, so it’s probably an intentional name referencing the song by the one who left this tape, who is probably Zero since part of it is heard since that moment of the trailer. also the bathroom has the DD customizable logo on the right side so it could be Mother Base.

But when this trailer hit and that music started AND I saw what AN AMAZING masterpiece this game is going to be.. My jaw dropped.. When I saw those skulls run after the Car, My hands were grabbing my head and I was silently screaming at the Screen on my PC. And then I realized that all this while.. WE KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of what is going to happen in MGS 5. Despite So much coverage, WE know nothing. Which is Amazing. And its more amazing That Kojima san, despite his troubles was able to make such a masterpiece while ALSO working on a masterpiece of a game.

well, you see, i agree with you, and that’s the problem here! i also think Skull face is real, but i’m sure that he isn’t on this scene near the end of the trailer, so what can we make out of this?
there’s many possibilities but i’ll name just two:
A) Skull face is real but he dies somewhere between GZ and TPP (or maybe somewhere in TPP) and later lives just in BB imagination, another point related to this is BB attitude, see how he looks back at Skull face and then just turns around to keep walking, it looks like he knows he isn’t real. also, before we thought about the possibility brought by this trailer of Skull face not being there we have already seen the scene between BB, skull face and the Metal Gear, this left many curious, and me and many others wondered why and how BB would ally with Skull face, maybe this alliance doesn’t happen at all, in a way i could understand BB allying with Skull face, but would everyone else (especially Miller) on Mother Base understand this and allow Skull face to wander freely on their base?
B) Ground Zeroes never happened, thus Skull face never existed at all, but i’m not really a believer of this, it would be going to far, though it could also be related to Paz being on TPP.
and lastly there’s something very very important that ties to a lot of stuff we already know and it could also tie to these two possibilities “…So the major sought a system that used information, words to control the subconscious…” this seems to be a major part of the plot on TPP, Remember that even thought we haven’t heard the whole main theme by Donna Burke we at least know that there are “Words that kill” if that’s even in the main theme it HAS to be important and it could be related to BB (and others) being manipulated to believe things that aren’t there.
Option A seems most likely, or maybe he was bending down to pick up his hat? It’s impossible to know with Kojima.
Voice and language definitely have a significant role to play in the story, but I’m sort of hoping that not much more will be revealed until the game is in our hands.

I agree with you. But I think Skullface gets killed early in the game and then becomes a hallucination.
I’ll go even further and say that the Boss goes too far to kill him (Skullface) and sacrifices too many soldiers in the fight. That would explain his hallucinations of talking to SF later and the cremations that we see in the E3 2014 trailer. That would be something to fuck with the Boss’s mind even more: guilt and remorse caused by the death of his men, hate towards SF and Zero…
I mean, I think they could be just cremating the bodies of the ones that died with MSF back in 1975, but I just think it’s less probable for Kaz and the others to hold on to the bodies for 9 years ’till the Boss comes back to perform the ceremony.
Skull Face is a real person who goes way back with big boss, my guess is when big boss was 15 years old and he was sent out to those nuclear warheads tests. I’m guessing around that time skull face must of met big boss and they where put in the same unit. And note: I am right about big boss age during that time because I’m mgs3 when the boss had her final battle with big boss, they showed a flashback of big boss without facial hair and he was place at some desert doing nuclear traing. That’s where big boss got exposed to nuclear and he was only 15 at that time.

They will be, though Ocelot’s sounds like an audio tape about the background of Skull Face, but the rest sounds like cut scene dialogue.
Just remember that they wont be heard all together like in the trailer. It’s edited to merge together. They might be talking to completely different people and taken out of context.
I’ve just had an epiphany…what if…what if Skull Face is an alter ego of Big Boss, an inner persona of sorts, and a hallucination at the same time, and what Skullface tells us about his past is in reality Big Boss problematic past that for some reason has reemerged to the surface?Think about it, we know nothing of Big Boss past prior to Snake eater except that he was in the U.S. military from a very young age, and that he was the Boss’ apprentice for ten years. What if Big Boss wasn’t even born in the U.S. in the first place? Also I think that in Snake Eater he says he has no family
Now this is just a thought that has occurred to me, I know there are several plot holes in it that I don’t know how to solve, but TPP would have the answer of course. It’s just a fun theory that came to my mind all of the sudden, but if there’s something I’m definetely sure about is that there is a huge secret regarding Skull face and Big Boss relationship, just based on what we know so far: Skull face quoting Big Boss line by line, his saying that they go way back etc. It could be that Skull face is the embodiment of a repressed trauma from Big Boss’ childhood that has come to the surface just now

[ There is one line in one of the Chico tapes that is particularly interesting. “Growing up means choosing how you’re going to live your life.” Skull Face says this to Chico. This is the exact same thing that Big Boss said to Chico in Peace Walker. How does this make any sense? Maybe Skull Face once said it to Big Boss when he was young as well as he goes way back with him apparently. However, in the side op where you have to destroy the anti air emplacements if you rescue the prisoner there he will start talking about Skull Face. He mentions that he was different than the other torturers, that his words cut deep. He then quotes something Skull Face said to him. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of, the pain gets the better of us all.” This is another Big Boss quote from Peace Walker, and its from the exact same scene as the last quote. It’s what Big Boss said to Chico… This makes no sense at all unless it’s just a reference to the game that has no meaning story wise, but it really doesn’t feel like that to me… It can’t make any sense really unless Skull Face is some kind of supernatural character, someone who isn’t real, some kind of part of Big Boss’s mind or something… It’s pretty crazy. How is he quoting Big Boss? Only Chico was there when he said those words.]

Cartoony? I think it looks more refined and defined, I find cartoony to be more oval, rounded, and way to colorful and fantastical while being not entirely portioned correctly.
It might be the 60fps throwing something off for you, the 60fps cutscenes are kind of odd, but I got used to them, lol.

Oh man, I will never believe, that Paramedic became mad. She was so…grounded in MGS3. Had dreams, talked about films. Her death and deeds were so unnecessary in terms of plot.
I think he joy and curiosity got the better of her, she got so carried away in what she was doing she stopped caring about morals, and probably pressure from Zero as well, maybe.

lol.. yea I used to try to make sense of it by calling it a device.. but more and more it looks supernatural/super-genetically enhanced abilities or powers.. hate that word, “abilities” in a game universe where we know eventually nanomachines explains everything.
Nano-machines has and always will be a cheap excuse, so we can just throw that aside and have fun, also there is enough in the series that is unexplained super natural, so “ability” doesn’t hurt, like Psycho Mantis, no nano-machines there 🙂

I think Quiet was in the process of becoming a skull probably. The part in the trailer where Snake is lifting her up, we can see irritations on her skin, probably not blood but effecs of the experiments maybe?
yes i think Quiet is related to the skulls too. who at the same time might be related to the earplug thingy since we see that at the moment BB takes out the earplug from the dead body it has similar irritations on the chest too, and those react to the body being “unplugged”

So Zero wants to unite the world under one rule and one language, but Zero (and in turn most likely Big Boss) wants to tower of babel everything and sever the connection between peoples and languages, thus freeing them from global influence and control of other nations and people so that they remain who they are and what their culture is, to maintain their race.
I gotta say I agree with Skull Face’s/Big Boss’s approach. I’m loving the story already, lol, and I know nothing.

Skullface is clearly a hallucination when all of the troops are facing Metal Gear.
I am piggybacking on a couple of other theories but here’s what I think happens:
Sometime during Big Boss’ nine year coma, Miller and Ocelot kill Skullface. Skullface leaves plenty of cassette tapes behind (maybe he was captive at Diamond Dogs before his death) and basically haunts Big Boss. Notice you can see the Flaming Volgin in a different area, and little Psycho Mantis in what looks like Mother Base.It looks like the visions follow him throughout the entire game.
Calling it right now – Lone Ranger Skullface is going to be riding shotgun with Big Boss on the way to Hell as his evil Jiminy Cricket.
Listen to the sorrow in Boss’ voice when he’s talking about Les Enfants Terrible at the end – I am pumped we get to see Boss deal with the emotional weight of having clones and passing on the worst parts of him. It’ll be the thing to push him over the edge.
Seeing the KP logo but not “Kojima Productions” really made it feel kind of empty too me. The whole trailer feels somber and the music just drives that feeling home. It sounds like something you play as kind of a farewell to something. And Big Boss punching the glass at the end? Maybe that’s how Kojima feels too?
also! before i forget, when Big Boss Punches the mirror at the end of the trailer, the walkman can be seen, so breaking the mirror is his reaction to what he heard on this “From the man who sold the world” tape, also as can be seen in a scene before, this bathroom appears to be inside mother base and we got the diamond dogs logo full of blood at the beginning of the trailer and all those bodies after that… maybe not everything on those scenes is an hallucination and Mother Base was under a big attack? (AGAIN) since BB reaction to the tape is pure anger this could be the moment where Outer Heaven is born, his horn is also way bigger (if this is an indicative of this scene being later on the story)
Definitely, Zero probably just revealed some really fucked up things to snake.

I honestly have a hard time playing any games in anticipation of TPP, it kind of sucks all my interest to the point where I don’t want to play much else. Honestly after I finish TPP it will be a while before I play another game.

I’ll take a wild guess here and say Skull Face is indeed real and caused the destruction of Mother Base. Though I think it’s possible that he dies early on in The Phantom Pain but stays in Big Boss’s head and becomes his alter ego or something. That’s the only thing I could come up with to explain the sudden appearing and disappearing of Skull Face.

This is taken from Threedog’s analysis of Skull Face on twitlonger. Threedog is one of the streamers of ohnetwork, an mgs-specialized twitch channel.
[ There is one line in one of the Chico tapes that is particularly interesting. “Growing up means choosing how you’re going to live your life.” Skull Face says this to Chico. This is the exact same thing that Big Boss said to Chico in Peace Walker. How does this make any sense? Maybe Skull Face once said it to Big Boss when he was young as well as he goes way back with him apparently. However, in the side op where you have to destroy the anti air emplacements if you rescue the prisoner there he will start talking about Skull Face. He mentions that he was different than the other torturers, that his words cut deep. He then quotes something Skull Face said to him. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of, the pain gets the better of us all.” This is another Big Boss quote from Peace Walker, and its from the exact same scene as the last quote. It’s what Big Boss said to Chico… This makes no sense at all unless it’s just a reference to the game that has no meaning story wise, but it really doesn’t feel like that to me… It can’t make any sense really unless Skull Face is some kind of supernatural character, someone who isn’t real, some kind of part of Big Boss’s mind or something… It’s pretty crazy. How is he quoting Big Boss? Only Chico was there when he said those words.]
It’s curious that Skullface have the same FOX patch but mirrored, so I like the idea of the alter ego, it’s like the reflection of Big Boss.
I agree with you. I’ll go even further and say that the Boss goes too far to kill him (Skullface) and sacrifices too many soldiers in the fight. That would explain his hallucinations of talking to SF later and the cremations that we see in the E3 2014 trailer. That would be something to fuck with the Boss’s mind even more: guilt and remorse caused by the death of his men, hate towards SF and Zero…
I mean, I think they could be just cremating the bodies of the ones that died with MSF back in 1975, but I just think it’s less probable for Kaz and the others to hold on to the bodies for 9 years ’till the Boss comes back to perform the ceremony.
For those of you who didn’t know that Solid Snake was blond. This is from mgs1.
It is highlighting dammit. There is a light directly above him and the scene is monochromatic. This stuff does not need to be spread around.
It is brown.
If you listen to the talking in that scene from MGS1, Solid Snake himself says that he wants to cut and DYE his hair so he won’t be mistaken for Liquid during the mission. Never made much sense to me as he could’ve infiltrated Shadow Moses quite easily with that “disguise”, but he makes it clear, they are identical-ish and he doesn’t want to be that similar to Liquid…

Actually I think it’s very possible for someone’s hair to change from blonde to brown through puberty.
Mine did. Though to be honest the whole thing is kind of busted, Liquid and Solid both only getting half of Big Boss, and Liquid got the best parts yet is nothing like him where as Solid got the lower ends stuff and looks and sounds like him more than Liquid.
Kojima did that just to fuck with us in MGS1 and now, well, he’s lying in the bed he made lol.
If they decide to establish that in Phantom Pain I am fine with it, but he never dyed it. Unless it is stated in he new game, his hair was always brown.
Previously it was supposed to be a reference to having the dominant phenotype for have color, whereas Liquid had the recessive phenotype. That was the hole symbolism that was lost to “oh he dyes his hair…”

Well, the hallway Big Boss is walking could be a metaphorical resemblance of what happened. I mean, in the first few seconds we see GZ’s BB without shrapnel, then he transforms into a demon. Maybe the doctor gets killed in the hospital scene or by BB hands in one of his raging hallucinations.

The PC version here in Brazil is cheaper too. It has to do with federal laws concerning taxes. PC and console games are classified differently. Mine’s the PS4 version, so I have to pay more. =/ Bummer
I could order from out of the country, like you suggested, but the price wouldn’t change much because the brazilian money lost a lot of value last year and it would take me too long to receive. Maybe more than a month. Normally I buy second-hand games, which is cheaper and the product itself is the same. But, MGS is my favorite franchise, so I won’t wait to get it.
