So 30GB for PC, was expecting something bigger, now i’m a little concerned about the content quantity, i have a feeling that Konami cut a lot of it.

    • cardboardbox engineer

      remember our conversation?
its actually not something to be concerned about…..

    • Tong Ninja

Didn’t they say that the content will stay the same? Kojima and his team are polishing the game now (or close to finishing it). No time to remove content, unless they want to delay the release date haha.

The only thing they might be removing is the Kojima Productions logo.

    • Witcher 3 is like 35 GB and I’m 40 hours into the campaign, about 2/3 of the way done. Not the best comparison but you gotta realize to not trip over the little stuff. What would be an ideal size?

      • MichaelPayneV

I guess is because the Briefing moments are not cutscenes anymore, but cassette tapes, aka just audio, which would explain it, plus the Textures don’t look that Next-Gen (unfortunately) which again is justifying the small size.

        • Could also be the fact that people initially thoughtGTA was 50 gb, but then it unpacked and it turned out to be like 60-70 or so. Could be the same case here. (could be wrong.)

    • Ninja_Se7eN

Not sure if it was Konami, but they’re cutting something somewhere in the game for sure.

    • MrVux007

lol its just good compression mate…games like Uncharted 3 had almost 50 GB on PS3….KZ:Shadow Fall would have been a 400 Gb game if it werent for compression to 39 GB

  • FOX

Real time cutscenes and perfection of the fox engine. Hell yeah!!

    • MichaelPayneV

Or lack of cutscenes in favor or Cassette Tapes. Now honestly, i would have loved if the Briefing Tapes were intro cutscenes at mother base.

      • Nick Wheaton

But that would go against being able to start missions while out in the field and all you’d really see is Big Boss, Kaz and Ocelot sitting at a table going over the mission of the week over hot coffee and doughnuts, then cut to Big Boss hopping onto the helicopter, it’d practically be the same cutscene each time just with different dialogue.

And then if they were all cutscenes, we’d have the same problem that MGS4 had in that it packed all of the exposition into the cutscenes instead of the codec calls where stuff like that belongs, said problem is something they’re trying to avoid happening again.

The cutscenes are for giving you the bare essentials so you know what’s going on in the plot, ,the expositional codec/radio calls/cassette tapes are where the real details belong. Not every single thing absolutely needs to be a cutscene.

    • Yes, cutscenes in real time don’t ocupy too much size. These are just animation and camera angle files. 🙂

  • Frank

    Here are some PS4 infos:

    Batman arkham knight = 48GB
    The witcher 3 = 35GB
    GTA 5 = 55GB
    Far Cry 4 = 26 GB
Dragon Age Inquisition = 45 GB

I don’t like that MGS is so small 🙁

    • MichaelPayneV

I think is the Fox Engine, a Demo like GZ would normaly be at least 8 GB in a non-Fox Engine Game, PES in Fox Engine (14&15) is also half as big as non Fox Engine PES, PES 13.

I guess what Fox Engine does is simplify the scripting files, needing way less files that a normal Video Game!

      • Kol Leqejza

at least u got it now! just chill, dude 😉

    • Meumels

      Compared to Ground Zeroes
      PS3: ~2GB
      PS4: ~3.9GB
      PC: ~3GB
So no real need to worry.

      • MichaelPayneV

Correction: PC: 5 GB after the Patch.

      • Frank

Ground zeroes was only a tiny base..

        • No Place For Hayter

Lets also not forget that most of GZ’s size was the models and textures, so all the models and textures we see in GZ we see only once, but in TPP all the models and textures we will be seeing a lot all over the place, GZ appears a lot larger than it actually is simply because there is no reusing of textures and assets so there is a minimum game size that is required to hold all of the models and textures, and TPP will be using its models and textures a lot more and thus when compared to something like ground zeroes it does not seem like much, we already know that TPP is 200 times the size of GZ but it is not 200 times the literally game data size.

A lot of the thought about TPP game size comes from a misunderstanding of game assets and how size and compression works for games, even I only have a small understanding.

      • Braden Gunn

        Metal Gear Solid: 747Mb
        Sons of Liberty: 8.4Gb
        Snake Eater: 9.4Gb
        Guns of the Patriots: 26.6Gb
        Peace Walker: 3.7Gb
        Revengence: 18.5Gb
        Ground Zeroes: 1.8Gb/3.6Gb
        Phantom Pain: 11.7Gb/25.1Gb

    • ThreeMadFrogs

Could just mean that KojiPro just fit more data on the disc. Instead of relying on massive download updates.

    • Vonkronberg

Me too. I really fear MGSV to be so small comparing with these games.

      • Kol Leqejza

        good joke!

    • Tong Ninja

I think we really need to play the game, before we can make that judgement haha.
Maybe the Fox Engine is a wonderful engine that compresses or simplifies the data, so it can fit on the disc. 😀

    • kointyu
    • jsizzler

      its perfectly normal..

      • Frank

        Normal is only normal….

        • No Place For Hayter

          Normal is only nominal.

        • jsizzler

          is that so?
just stating there is nothing wrong with this. the fox engine is highly versatile and easily optimized as we have seen. there is also the matter of file compression.

          • Frank

You are right. I was in shook but now im fine with it XD

    • J_muse72

Keep in mind that maybe some of those games didn not compress some of there files.

Just watch th AngryJoe review of Titanfalll,I think 30GB of the game on PC were uncompressed sound files.

    • Zach Garner

True but what if it is because, compared to that list of games, there is less, environmental wise, to load because of the dessert and things like that. Maybe that made it able to have a smaller size? IDK haha. Still looking forward to it the most 😀

      • Frank

Even the tapes would be enough for me lol. Im all about the story

        • Zach Garner

Too true, spoken like a true Mgs fan.

      • No Place For Hayter

WELCOME! You know it is pretty hard to not just use a generic welcome comment, lol, just know that we care enough to not generalize you or my welcome comments, lol. ( ‘ ‘ )7

      • Gatsu

Welcome to Outer Heaven brother :D! Glad to see more soldiers being fultoned ^^.

      • Zach Garner

Thanks for the welcomes guys. I feel part of Outer Heaven already.

    • Le Guy who drowned quiet

      THATS YOUR BLOODY OPINION

    • No Place For Hayter

Lets not forget what we have actually seen of the game, and most importantly the FOX engine, which none of those games were made with. I mean for example of past MGS games MGS3/4 hold lossless audio for the game but the FOX engine uses lossy audio, and that is a lot of space saved right there, having the entire audio portion of a game in lossless takes a lot of space, and because FOX engine is designed to be on as many platforms as possible it saves space/assets and textures where ever it can resulting in the small size, of used right I believe we will see this with all FOX engine games (if we ever see any more).

    • Braden Gunn

      Metal Gear Solid 4 = 26.6 GB

      • Frank

You would have to compare it to the PS3-Version of MGS5. So it’s 12 GB vs 27 GB lol

        • Braden Gunn

Even if you compare it to the PS4 version, MGS4 still has the bigger file size.

    • Ishmael

and how can you dislike this? since when in history did big space mean its a good game?!?

      • Frank

Im done thinking for other people. It’s that easy huh??? Yall ask stupid questions so that I have to explain myself?? I never said big Space makes a good game but it’s a f”””” Indicator for the games size, cut scenes etc.

        • Ishmael

          calm down mofo.

          • Frank

Fuck it. Im already a demon

  • ive always wondered… why sept. 2 in japan?

    • MichaelPayneV
    • BOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

time difference. right now it’s 9:10 AM (EST) July 23rd, in Japan it’s 10:10 PM July 23rd. So in two hours, or 11:00 AM for me, it’ll be midnight going into July 24th. The release of September 2nd in Japan is so they can release MGSVTPP globally at the same time which would make it a day ahead in Japan.

    • umbralex

Because in japan they’re in the future, so while here is sept 1st, in japan it’s already sept 2 …..

  • BOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

This is worrisome. Now I wonder if the two maps they’ve shown are the only two maps in the game? I read somewhere that industrial locations were returning, it’s not Metal Gear without some industrial looking building infiltration of some sort, paraphrasing here of course. But now I wonder if that doesn’t mean those locations will just be within one of the only two maps in the game: Afghanistan or Africa? 25 GB seems so small for much more than that if these maps are really supposed to be enormous.

    • Maybe Kojima is bringing back the good old double disc set like MGS1 🙂 I wouldn’t get overally concerned with the file size because I am sure there will be a nice size update to download within the first few days that will probably be a good bit of MGO3 content. Also with the change to cutscenes I’m sure that saved a lot of needed space. Has anyone seen what the actual download size of the digital version is? I was under the assumption that the 25.1 GB size is for the physical copy install.

      • BOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

That’s not how game updates work. They don’t reserve large portions of the game for updates and leave say the physical disk half filled.

This information was revealed through the Japanese online Playstation Store. Why would it list install size for physical copies when the store is for digital goods? It’s good to be optimistic though.

I do worry this could end up being another MGS4 situation where there was relatively little gameplay. Most of which was shown off long before release. Remember how big and expansive the game seemed in those trailers and previews? But the final product was rather small. Heck, remember how enormous Ground Zeroes seemed in all its trailers and previews? Camp Omega seemed endless! But it was in fact very small.

I dunno, Metal Gear games are great, but the trailers and such have a way of pulling wool over our eyes.

        • I retract my previous statement, didn’t realize that was the overall size of the game. I guess we will see, I am still excited for the game either way and look forward to a great story.

          • BOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

Oh, no question, I’m super excited. Maybe TOO excited. The smaller file size could be indicative of a smaller game than I’ve pumped myself up to expect?

          • No Place For Hayter

I would not worry, it will be big, I mean it has over 100 side ops alone, and at least two huge maps to play around in and a huge mother base to build and explore. I’m sure almost no one here knows much about what goes on with the actual size of the game data (especially with the FOX engine) the game could be huge, but due to the engine, compression, and reused assets and pieces the game has a smaller size, it is an open world game so one asset for the game goes a long way and thus they don’t have to make as many.

          • BOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

Definitely. With the huge gameplay hours numbers and the sheer vastness of stuff to do already shown off, not counting what they haven’t shown, is way incredible and will keep me entertained for a loooong time. Any disappointment in length or content will be my own insane expectations I’ve set up for myself.

Either way if MGO3 is anything like MGO2 I will have endless hours of fun at my disposal.

          • No Place For Hayter

It’s ok I’m sure we all have set insane expectations, lol, ME INCLUDED CANT WAIT 🙂

        • No Place For Hayter

I wouldn’t worry about the gameplay at all, MGS4 had almost none, but TPP is ALL ABOUT the gameplay, so much so that the story was integrated in a way to not interfere with the gameplay.

          • BOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

Truth. Even being a bit smaller than MGS4, MGS4 was, like, 90% cut scene. Or at least it felt that way. That’s definitely a reassuring thought.

          • Kol Leqejza

            8 1/2 hrs.

    • Tong Ninja

Other confirmed (small compared to Africa/Afghanistan) maps include Mother Base, Cyprus Hospital and Ground Zeroes map.

One of the media outlets at the preview event in June, said they almost finished the second region (Africa) and were about to move to the next region. I think there will be 1 or 2 more new big maps after Africa. haha

      • BOBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

I can’t imagine Cyprus hospital being very big. And Camp Omega is relatively small. Cyprus Hospital is more of a tutorial stage wrapped in exposition. Even with one or two more maps, I dunno, at 25 GB it just foreshadows a lot of copy/paste content like Ground Zeroes had.

      • MichaelPayneV

Maybe the third Location will the back to Cyprus, but this time in Free Roam, not just the Hospital, and then, Grozny Grad!

        • Kol Leqejza

          what makes you believe that?

  • Gatsu

I wouldn’t be so worried folks. We know the game is going to be massive and I still believe we get to visit some more indoor areas, that we haven’t seen yet.

Some reasons for TPP’s size imo:
    1. Has less cutscenes, as I understand they can bring the number quite high. Maybe I’m wrong, lol :).

    2. I’m not sure what the correct word is, compress? Anyway I’ve heard that some game developers know how to put the game data in much smaller size to discs, than some other developers so it won’t take 50-100GB.

Remember that GZ’s size is very small, but the area is still pretty darn big. MGSV total size around 30GB (PS4).

There’s a lot of MB management in TPP, which makes us visit there often. So 2 huge maps could be all we get, but TPP still feel huge because of those areas + MB and other various gameplay stuff. I don’t think Konami cut anything out, they’ve also said many times the content stays the same.

    • MichaelPayneV

I have 3 reasons i think it is sthis small.

      1. Fox Engine, Non Fox Engine PES (PES 13) is double the size of Fox Engine PES (PES14 & PES15)
      2. Less Cutscenes as you said, tuo be more exact, the Briefing parts of the Game being Audi only, no animation scripts needed for those parts, which i’m a little disappointed.
      3. The Texture resolution is not Next Gen, therefore less size, and the Models are also pretty low Poly even compared to MGS4, so again, less size.

That’s how i see it, hopefully the third point is just on consoles and not on PC, all tough it would have been nice to not have the problem on consoles either, but hey, this is the hardware.

      • No Place For Hayter

Don’t forget the open nature of the game and its unlockables and collectibles and lot of data (such as models and textures) will be reused a lot in TPP due to its open world nature and thus its data size isn’t HUGE.

        • MichaelPayneV

Usually Open World Games are actually bigger in size, so i think is the Fox Engine, as in Open World Games the Scripted files like Animations and Values, usually cover between 70/80% of a Game size, and the rest of 30/20% being the Textures, Models and the Audio Files.

How i know? I modded The Hell out of GTA IV and Just Cause 2, so i know which is which.

          • No Place For Hayter

Someone who knows more? lol, that is what I was looking for, I do not know much myself, lol.

          • MichaelPayneV

Is all right, we’re not all PC Master Race, like i am (HAHAH)

Disclaimer: little off-topic: What Console Fan-Boys (If it doesn’t apply let it fly) don’t understand about the whole “We are PC Master Race” title, is that is Satire, is our way of self irony.

To make it simple for everyone to understand, i’ll give you this simple analogy.

How Black People call themselves N**a as a satire, that how we PC Gamers call ourselves PC Master, as satire as well, is our way of making fun of ourselves, when we say “PC Master Race wins again” when a Game is confirmed for PC, like MGSV in August 2014, we do it for fun an nothing more.

          • No Place For Hayter

“(If it doesn’t apply let it fly)” I think that is the greatest thing I’ve read all week, lol.

          • MichaelPayneV

Yeah, is a quote from “The Black Hokage” i love it so much that i want a shirt with that.

Before this he had, “Step 1, get Money, Step 2, repeat Step 1”

        • MichaelPayneV

That being said looks like Fox Engine needs a lot less Scripted Files compared to other Video Game Engines, making it in GZ and TPP case 50% Scripted Data, and 50% Models Textures and Audio, aka Archived files.

      • Cutscenes doesn’t ocupy too much size, these are just animations files and cámera angles.

However, if the cutscenes would be in video format, then yes, they would make larger files and final size in hard disc.

        • MichaelPayneV

Well, animation to take a lot of size, just so you know.

      • Ninja_Se7eN

I usually don’t agree with you, but this time I do.
Not necessarily for the same reasons but that number is rather small.
Just check any recent game for PS4 and we see the difference.

      • Chem

how much was the size of PeaceWalker? 2 gb? and still to get the 100% of that game i had to play +100 hrs, TPP wont be any different

        • MichaelPayneV

          3 GB.

          • Chem

Really? 3gb? but i thought that the psp umds had capacity for 1,5 gb or 2gb max

  • PrinceHeir

    Yay i’m back 😀

Been awhile out of this site and wow i look at the counter and the game is coming along nicely 🙂

    Can’t wait for this masterpiece!

        • I know that feel, bro…

As soon as September 1st comes, i will retire myself to my cave, no internet, no facebook, nothing, just to avoid spoilers.

          • No Place For Hayter

Yeah, considering the nature of TPP the entire internet will explode with spoilers.

          • angeliquedevive

Well after release I cant come here either D: spöilerssss

          • Ozzman

I will cut my whole internet conection as well… exept my PS4!
Yeah… you mentioned a good point, those spoilers!!!!

          • MichaelPayneV

As soon as September 1, i won’t check my internet, and as soon as September 15 hits, i’ll take 2 weeks free at work.

          • Ozzman

            WoW!
We all are the same here!!!
The world of MGS is so beautiful
We got the same idea and thoughts… but our native languages are different
Angelique said about spoilers, something that was on my mind too!
And you said about 2 weeks free from work!
            It’s awesome
I already said to my boss that I’m gonna go on vacation from 1st sep til 10

            True MGS fans
(Sorry, english isn’t my native tongue)

          • Gatsu

It could be a good idea to do it one week before Sep 1. The game will surely release in some countries early, like every game. I hope I’m wrong about this.

          • Heinz Catsup

I’m planning 20 days or so prior to the release.

        • Ozzman

          Why?

      • MrVux007

it seems it will be a LOT longer for me…got the job offer i could not refuse,4 months on the sea…it seems i wont be playing anywhere before November…ahhh real life is a bitch sometimes

      • Mini gear

ill be off for a week after sep 1. then well all regroup and talk again 🙂

    • No Place For Hayter

Howdy, long time no see, lol.

    • Gray Lion

      Dat gif XDDD

  • stagueda

We all Should remember that size is not what counts 😛 but let’s see what MGSV has instored for us, in my opinion it may be the game engine and real time cutscenes, pre-rendered take a whole lot of space mostly because they are pre-rendered, and game textures take a lot of space too, a whole bunch of it.

    • MichaelPayneV

“We all Should remember that size is not what counts”

      That’s what she said.

  • Kawaii Monster

That’s a bit disheartening, hope it’s not one of those cases where file sizes translates into game size i.e.: maps and overall content, but knowing Kojima and his team it will not disappoint regardless.

    • 4energyplaylist .

As a good example you can take The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt – the biggest open world so far. 26GB
      So answer is, not really.

  • Pawel

Hi everyone, been following MGI for months now. Super hyped for the game and glad to be a part of such awesome community of players. Played all canon MGS games including MGS1 when it first came out on an old PS1 😀

Just checked out the japanese PSN Phantom Pain info page and it has some interesting bits and pieces but my google translator can only do so much. Does anyone speak Japanese? It seems there are some additional DLC bit of info!

    https://store.playstation.com/#!/ja-jp/%E3%82%B2%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A0/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain/cid=JP0101-CUSA01099_00-MAINGAME00000000?EMCID=jGMpsnTOP_a0003

    • No Place For Hayter

WELCOME! Happy to see more people whom are enjoying MGS.

“Played all canon MGS games” that good sir is all that matters, lol.

Unfortunately I do not speak Japanese though, but considering a lot of what I love comes from there I should really learn the language, lol.

      • Pawelo

Yes! It’s an amazing language to learn and I have made attempts but been defeated by Kanji and despite being able to say a thing or two, reading is a completely different kettle of fish. Anyway, the site seems to have some additional bits of information that may benefit the community eager of any non spoilery news! I hope we can find someone within the community or maybe wait for the english PSN site to catch up 🙂

    • MichaelPayneV

      Welcome aboard, sire.

    • Gatsu

Welcome to the best MG community comrade :D, hope you enjoy chatting with us while waiting for TPP =). Ultra hyped for the game too ^^!

Hmmm I only know some words in Japanese, but PrinceHeir knows quite a lot of the language.

      • No Place For Hayter

Yeah, we have quite a few fans of the Japanese culture in here, so someone is bound to have at least a half answer, lol.

    • kalacoste

hi, i’m new here, i could read a little bit. It’s an info about the bonus DLC for buying the from PS Store. the Japan version standard bonus plus additional for buying it from PS Store, it says “Camouflage : Pixel Sand”, and “Motherbase Staff 4” looks like it give additional camo and 4 personel for motherbase

  • kalacoste

Hi, I’m new here (not actually new but, oh well), nice to meet all of you. Anyway about that file size if the pc’s almost the same like the PS4 one then i can actually understand that if I compare it with ArmA III

    • No Place For Hayter

Welcome! we caught another lurker, lol. It is totally fine I wouldn’t jump into a community if I did not know what they were like either. Glad you decided to reveal your hidden presence. Now you can share the pain of waiting 😉

      • kalacoste

haha, thanks 🙂 , maybe waiting longer than you? since I buy the PC version, also the worry of bad port since dev only have 2 week. I just don’t know anymore, the pain is a bit too much.

    • MichaelPayneV

Welcome to our Heaven, and our Hell. This is Outer Heaven!

      • kalacoste

Thanks, yeah this is the only place where I can live

    • Gatsu

Hey there friend! Welcome to MGI :), once you post a comment there’s no stopping :D. It’s seems our Big Boss Nyxus managed to fulton some new loyal soldiers before going away for holiday.

The more the merrier, thanks Boss!

      • kalacoste

        Thx :), your boss… he’s just good can’t believe i’m defeated

  • Daburcor

I’ve seen a lot of bellyaching about the size of this game elsewhere on the net, and frankly I just don’t see what the big deal is. Hell, inFAMOUS: Second Son is about 20GB, and it is not only beautiful but also fairly meaty. And that game doesn’t have a fraction of the breadth of player choice/content we know TPP has.

Add to that the wizardry that is that Fox Engine and the team of more competent developers that make up KojiPro (not to say SuckerPunch are BAD of course), and TPP’s nearly 25.1GB file size doesn’t look so bad (OR small).

  • Cmosfbincludestdioh

I think we need to calm our selves, everyone who had a chance to put his hands on TPP said its really really huge remember what Troy Baker said about the difference btw Skyrim and MGS5:TPP.
So dont worry guys as the time goes so does Technology becoming even better then it did maybe 1 month ago. With all that being said TPP will be huge dont worry with numbers most of us dont understand anyway because we are not developers or in the gaming industry.

    • Gatsu

      Indeed.

    • Ninja_Se7eN

Actually I am worried about the numbers. That’s bellow an average game on PS4 and way bellow an average open world game on PS4.
There’s no compression without loss, it’s almost certain they’re cutting somewhere.

      • Vegas

But what would they cut? I mean the story is huge, graphics are awesome, gameplay seems really good. Maybe its a Fox Engine thing, we haven’t seen any game produced by it. I hope i am right xD

    • Elias David Gill

Numbers, You know what they got rid off? Uncompressed audio files, Real time cutscenes isntead of Pre-renderred cutscenes and a super optimized game engine. Ground Zeroes was 2gb, even on PC and it was capable of running 4K 60fps even in the lowest mid range PC, I’ve downloaded Uncharted demos and other games demos that are literally SO MUCH SMALLER IN MAP SIZE and COMPLETELY LINEAR GAMEPLAY filled with quicktime events and graphics that are WORSE than TPP are, yet they are 8 to 10 GB on size, which is bullcrap.

Kojima Productions made one hell of an optimization here. Praise the lord Kojima

  • Ryan Locke

We wanted more news stories after having been dry for like a week, I wake up, and then BAM, like 6 new stories. lol Unfortunately they’re not really new news. :/

  • Solidus Türk

    Enjoy.

  • Tibor

Finally got my first piece of TPP 😀 will have to be enough until September 15th 🙁

    • Gatsu

      Congratz 🙂 !

      • Tibor

thanks 🙂 it was actually confiscated by the border section of police (or whatever you would call it), they checked it and sent it to me and I had to pay like 12€ extra because of that 😀

        • Gatsu

What a load of bullshit… Well at least you got it :).

        • Vegas

Something similar happens in my country too. It’s a big shit sandwish and we all gotta take a bite.

    • BurntFM

Nice, I got the dynamic duo. I do a little bit of stop motion animation so I’m going to have lots of fun with these..

      • Tibor

awesome. do you have like a youtube or something for those stop motions? btw have you noticed what is on BB’s left knee ? 😀

        • BurntFM

Yup. Big Boss loves his Diamond Dogs logos. I don’t really post the videos on youtube. I have a tumblr but I guess I can start uploading things to youtube now and then.

  • Oh crap, just a little over a month away until release.

  • Javier

I was thinking the game was going to be a little smaller, like 20gb.
I’m not worried about the size. Those who are getting the digital version should be happy.

A game doesn’t need 50gb to be “good”.

    • Ninja_Se7eN

Depends on your definition of “good”.
High resolution models and textures take up (a lot of) space and 20GB is way bellow the average current-gen games.
A game doesn’t need good graphics to be good but these sizes point to a bellow-than-average visual experience.

      • No Place For Hayter

I wouldn’t call 1080p at a constant 60 fps “bellow-than-average visual experience” nor would I say that about the PC version (which btw we don’t know the size of) which goes up to 4k.

        • Ninja_Se7eN

There are other things to consider besides frame-rate and resolution ;).

          • No Place For Hayter

You specifically mentioned “visual experience” though and more than frame rate or resolution is things like lighting and animation both of which are amazing in the FOX engine.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

Sure, but they’re also amazing on a whole bunch of other engines as well :P.

          • No Place For Hayter

Yes, but what I have seen from the FOX engine looks nicer and specifically more realistic than other engines, for example the unreal engines have always looked unreal to me (pun intended, lol), they are bulky and everything is overblown with manlyness instead of having things look realistic.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

First and foremost I’d like to apologise to you and anyone who might be reading this post.
I’ve been unnecessarily aggressive and rude and for that I’m sorry.

Now, onto the reply itself in the nicest way I can put it :).

Again, you’re focusing too much on visuals ;).
A game engine has several components out of which the graphics engine is the one responsible for the visuals ;).
The graphics engine is usually developed using well established graphical APIs such as OpenGL and DirectX.
This means that almost every engine uses the same graphical APIs, varying only in their version :).
The actual look of the game is mostly dependent on the designers, artists and engineers not on the engine ;).
So kudos to Kojima Productions for making such beautiful assets :).

But graphics is just a small part of what a game engine is supposed to do, the engine has other tasks that can be more important than graphics.
In the case of an open world game, asset management and streaming are good examples of that :).

Now, out of curiosity, how do you think we generated this image?

Heyyyyy BRO! Welcome back :D, Diamond Dogs start returning all over the place :). Hope you had a great vacation Golgari ;), yeah everything has been okey here. Waiting for our lovely game.
Btw almost made a new comment record in other article.

GATSUUUUUU! Thanks Bro! I missed you all really much.
Yeah, saw that Gamescom comment section from time to time. Almost a record. 😉

My vacation was great… Been in Croatia and stuff, but “The comrades I’ve lost won’t stop hurting!” (c)
I’m so ready for the Phantom Pain, I’m prolly going to Gamescom. I need my MGSV fix.

        Missed Nyxus too. ;(

        • Gatsu

Sweet :), I should visit some country later too. Been having a few year break from southern countries during my vacations. Now spending my vacation days with TPP XD… totally worth it.

Yes glad that Nyx returned too, but he posted yesterday that will soon go away for quite some time and return at the end of August :D. But we’ll manage somehow. Can you imagine, soon only 1 month left for TPP, holy shit …

          And when TPP is here…

My life with TPP will be complete 😀 1 month is nothing for me after amazing years with you guys. 😀

I hope that the game will deliver. I’m now on the stage where I can easily be disappointed. But not even Kojima/Konami issue can destroy that MGSV Hype.

One thing for sure that I will read every MGSV Review out there before the release. Hype is Over 9000 for me!

    • angeliquedevive

I haven’t been here…. what? Gone like 1-2 weeks? Goddamn, what I’ve missed guys?

      • Gatsu

Welcome back too honey 😉 ! Just some small news (which Nyx updated) and lots of comments, that’s about it hehe :D.

  • Ninja_Se7eN

It’s actually rather small for a regular game let alone an open world game.
Is this the “half-install” with physical disc or full install?
If it’s the full install they either have some groundbreaking compressing algorithm to work in real time or we’re getting some good-old low-res models and textures.
I’m guessing it’s the latter because:
    a) I don’t remember a MGS game ever having groundbreaking graphics
    b) It fits the 60 fps target for consoles better.

    • Golgari

Well, MGS except for the third game (and even third game was actually fantastic looking game for PS2 that squeezed everything from PS2) always had groundbreaking graphics.
It’s not small. Everything is just compressed. Look at MGS4, it was a damn linear game but was 26 GB all right, but it had uncompressed audio and video files mostly.
+ it’s now a Fox Engine thing. Kojima Productions developed decent tools for the massive open world.

PS4 version obviously have better textures and other effects than PS3 version.

      • Ninja_Se7eN

        Sorry but no.
On the same year as MGS3, a little game called Far Cry came out and that was the game that pushed the bar in terms of visual fidelity not MGS3.
A year before the release of MGS4 a game came out that once again pushed the bar in terms of visual fidelity: that game was Crysis.
You might say: “but those were PC games and MGS3 and MGS4 were console games”. You’re right but then again with the possible exception of the Uncharted series I’ve never seen a console game doing anything that hadn’t been done before on PC in terms of visuals.

I’m not saying that MGS games have poor graphics, they look good but they’re a very long way from the likes of Crysis and Battlefield that really have top-notch graphics.

I’m sorry but the fox engine isn’t some magical concept you can throw around to justify everything.
The fox engine is a game engine, game engines feed on assets and asset streaming is crucial for open world games.
Compressing assets = delayed asset loading = longer loading times = crappy LOD effects = poor visual effects and possibly loss of performance.
I seriously doubt they’re compressing assets, I’ve never heard of such an algorithm for real time applications such as videogames (but I don’t know every piece of game tech that’s coming out).

But hey, don’t take it from me, have you ever heard of a small company with a few years of experience of developing open-world games called Rockstar?
They’re latest game is GTA V and it takes up over 50GB of space on PS4…

        • Andrea Feletti

          Thanks for the explanation 😉

          • Ninja_Se7eN

Anytime, sorry if I was too aggressive on my post :P.

        • Lewis

I wanted to reply to this bs, but then I saw your comparison Far Cry > MGS3 and I understood, that it was pointless.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

None of it is BS ;). Feel free to reply, my comparison was in terms of graphics only ;).

        • Golgari

I talked about Playstation 2 and what Kojima Productions did with it with MGS3. They did what they could with the system and you need to judge with that otherwise we can say that tech demos from a PC looks better than any other game on PC/Console period. First Far Cry from Crytek ofc pushed the boundaries of graphics on the PC but that’s not the point in my argument. I said “except” MGS3 because it was done when PS3 was on the horizon. Other games such as MGS1, MGS2, MGS4 and even MGS:PW (for portables) pushed visuals a lot.

At the same time, MGS4 looked amazing when it came out and it came out in June, while Crysis 1 came out in November. So yes, MGS4 pushed graphics enough when it came out. Crysis 1 had time to polish and it’s “great” graphics for it’s time were controversial when most of the people in 2007 could not even run the game on medium settings because of poor performance and nonsensical system Req for it’s time.

Rockstar is another thing. Their game is different in visual design compared to MGSV that includes traffic, a lot of NPC’s on the screen and it is more alive compared to MGSV. Rockstar’s task for details is much more complex so ofc it will have more space in it with all of the textures and stuff. MGSV have much better situation here when they don’t need a lot of stuff on the screen for Afghanistan or Africa.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

When I talk about groundbreaking graphics I’m talking about games in general not platforms so I guess we were talking about different things ;).

Talking about pushing visuals just for consoles is much more limited.
I don’t quite remember other PS2 games that well but I do believe Uncharted had better visuals than MGS4 and Uncharted came out earlier.

Regarding Rockstar, but that’s exactly my point! They can do all that because the technology supports it.
The space requirements with TPP are weird and that makes me wonder if the lack of maturity of the Fox Engine isn’t holding the game back in terms of onscreen objects and possibly other things.

          • Golgari

When I’m talking about groundbreaking graphics in general, I’m not talking about specific platforms either but there are exceptions like MGS3 that could not push anything in general but for the PS2 it was amazing.

Uncharted 2, 3 looks better but not by much. It has a lot of action so it is much easier to show pretty explosions. Still, MGS4 even to this day looks fine and more open than any Uncharted game.

Rockstar’s game is different to MGSV. MGSV is a sandbox and GTAV is not really (at least in missions it is not) so most of the stuff GTAV have is scripted and not emergent enough with complex systems. Their worlds have massive details but their systems are not complex, so they have more details in the environment and more npc’s, cars and stuff. This is how they make their open world games.
Fact is, MGSV looks better than GTAV in many ways. One PBR lighting makes a huge difference in the game and I want to see a game that has a much better implementation of it. EA did with their games, UE4 has it, but so far MGSV does it so good especially in Camp Omega and Hospital level in The Phantom Pain GDC demo.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

You’re missing a lot about Uncharted, they have water and wet effects that most games don’t even dream for instance ;).

What you’re talking about is game logic an AI which is code and does not take up much space after being compiled ;).
I don’t consider GTA to be leading in terms of graphics, but they do make damn good open world games.

        • nyx

Metal gear solid had ALWAYS ground breaking graphics, that is system-wise. In MGS2 and MGS4 case perhaps regardless platform.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

Like I already said, I was talking about games in general, not platform specific.
Regarding MGS4, at least Uncharted had better visuals ;).

          • nyx

Ok, generally speaking remains MGS2, Uncharted’s graphics being better than MGS4’s is debatable due to different styles and bigger environment openess of the latter, but Uncharted was first, so I guess that one can’t say, that MGS4 was graphically groundbreaking.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

First and foremost I’d like to apologise to you and anyone who might be reading this post.
I’ve been unnecessarily aggressive and rude and for that I’m sorry.

Now, onto the reply itself in the nicest way I can put it :).

Exactly, but what’s more important is that MGS4 was an astonishing game nevertheless :D.

    • Yell

What are you talking about MGS4 was the best looking game on ps3 for a long time. Witcher 3 is about the same filesize as MGSV. The reason it seems so small is because no one compresses textures anymore lol

      • Ninja_Se7eN

Nope, that game was Uncharted and it kept its crown until Uncharted 2 was released.

The only thing The Withcer 3 is an example of is how NOT to develop games for consoles. Seriously that game runs at 20 fps most of the time…
There’s a good reason for not compressing textures, specially in open-world games, and that is performance…

But hey, let’s check out another open-world game: GTA V. Oh damn, that game is over 50GB on PS4.
Maybe it’s because it’s their first open world game and they’re noobs…
Oh no wait, Rockstar has been making open world games for ages now, Kojima Productions on the other hand…

        • Acheron

What’s your point about Rockstar and GTAV? They have their method of making games, and KojiPro has theirs. Both parties even have their own engines to help them make these games. I don’t think lack of experience in open world game creation is a good point to make, I think the games are different beasts with different goals, with different methods of achieving those goals.

You know, Ground Zeroes’ is already out. Look at the textures in-game. They aren’t ground-breaking, but still damn good when you look at the game as a whole. So maybe the textures in TPP will be of the same quality. That wouldn’t be a problem for me, because GZ looks great.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

My point is that Rockstar has been making open world games for a very long time now and have pushed the bar for the genre in every release.
This means they are a reference in open world games and probably have better asset streaming tech because they’ve been doing it longer.

Such a difference in install space requirements is weird because open world games tend to need more space for assets.

I never said MGS games don’t look good. They look good enough for me, but they’ve never been a reference in terms of visual quality either.

And Ground Zeroes isn’t an open world game, it just has a slightly big map ;).

          • No Place For Hayter

“I never said MGS games don’t look good. They look good enough for me,
but they’ve never been a reference in terms of visual quality either.”

I’m going to put this simply, MGS has almost always been ground breaking with its content and visual aspects, everyone was blown away by the first MGS the way it looked and played was way ahead of its time, MGS is known to always be at the head of the industry, Kojima himself seeks to be ground breaking with every entry, just because they are not overblown PC games does not mean that their quality has never been great.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

            (apology again)
First and foremost I’d like to apologise to you and anyone who might be reading this post.
I’ve been unnecessarily aggressive and rude and for that I’m sorry.

Now, onto the reply itself in the nicest way I can put it :).

I’m sorry but I just can’t agree with you on that ;).
MGS games are groundbreaking in a lot of aspects sure (hell it’s my favourite franchise 😀 ).
They almost single-handedly invented the stealth genre, they’re always a reference in terms of story-telling (IMHO MGS games have hands-down the best story-telling of all games) and they do something that I really enjoy that’s explaining every single detail in the game. Almost nothing ever appears out-of-nowhere it’s all explained and often is too complex for me to understand everything in my first playthrough :).
The overall quality of every MGS game is outstanding, they produce high-quality very-polished games :). Nobody is arguing with that ;).

On the graphics department they’re not bad, they’re pretty good but they’re not the best either and there’s nothing wrong with that :).
A game isn’t better just because it has better graphics but I’m sure you can find games that had better graphics than their contemporaneous MGS games :).

          • No Place For Hayter

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, lol, been away for a bit.

Yeah, sorry, lol got the game quality mixed with the graphics quality, while MGS was always best looking games on consoles, that is it, lol, it looked amazing on consoles but the graphics themselves were not ground breaking compared to every platform specifically PC.

  • Kol Leqejza

OMG, people please calm down! the size of the game is a positive thing: that just means that the fox-engine is a massive editorial tool & that the devolopers @KojimaProductions are more than skilled!

    • Ninja_Se7eN

So what you’re saying is that a new-born engine from a team that had little experience developing engines has a groundbreaking real-time compression algorithm that the companies with several years of experience in developing engines can’t achieve yet?

Doesn’t seem very plausible to me.

      • Acheron

Witcher 3 had a surprisingly smaller install size at around the same amount, it’s not completely absurd to think this is true. Ground Zeroes was about 5 GB, granted it was a single, small map, but put it on a larger scale with all of TPPs content/assets and maybe this makes sense.

        • Ninja_Se7eN

I never said this wasn’t true. I have no problem in believing it’s true.
But something is getting cut somewhere ;).
Open world games usually need more space for assets than other games.
The Witcher 3 is taking 36 GB (half-install with physical disc) of my PS4 and it suffers from terrible performance at 20 fps most of the time.
That’s roughly 10GB more than MGSV and much worse performance than what it’s promised in MGSV.
          GTA V takes up 50GB on PS4.

          • Acheron

Well space usage doesn’t really define its performance, that’s more of a fault in the developer, or maybe the developer’s tools. GTA V’s PS4 performance is still 30 fps, and sometimes just shy of 30. Every developer named here (CD Projekt Red, Rockstar, KojiPro) has their own engine they make these games with. We’ve seen many gameplay videos of the game being played at 60 fps, and we’ve played Ground Zeroes. So the performance that is promised seems to be there. Maybe KojiPro’s tools are legitimately capable of this kind of thing.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

Space is not a measure of game performance directly, no.
I’m not saying they can’t pull this off, but space requirements are bellow average which means that something is getting cut somewhere.
My guess is that we’re getting lower resolution models and textures but that’s just my educated guess, nothing more, nothing less.
I don’t think they’re compressing assets due to performance reasons, but again that’s just what I think.

Again, Ground Zeroes is not an open world game and open world games have specific needs in terms of tech that neither PES nor Ground Zeroes needs.
BTW, Ground Zeroes’ frame-rate dropped like hell on PS4 if you tagged enough soldiers ;).

I wasn’t trying to imply that MGSV was worse because of this :). I was simply speculating on the why of the space requirements :).

      • Kol Leqejza

new born? it’s in development since peace walker. and if you need more info on how the engine works exactly you have to watch konamis presentation, when they announced that kiefer is snake. there are several videos showcasing the engine and an in-depth developer’s commentary. watch it & u may know why i am chilling.

        • BurntFM

I watched that whole GDC conference KojiPro had. Real ground breaking stuff.

        • Ninja_Se7eN

So? Is it a mature engine like Unreal Engine, Unity 3D, Cry Engine, Frostbyte, etc. ?
No it is not, Fox Engine is a newcomer in the engine world! I’ve watched a video of over 1h30min on Fox Engine already and from what I saw it’s nothing special when it comes to actual engine tech.

Please elucidate me regarding Fox Engine’s asset streaming technology because otherwise I’ve got to assume it’s equal or worse than other mature engines built for open world games.

          • Kol Leqejza

don’t know what ur problem is, dude. the game will be MASSIVE, the size of the game is NOT. as simple as that.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

            No problem :).
Just find it weird that such a massive game has such low space requirements ;).
            And I don’t believe that’s Fox Engine magic, I think it’s something else :P.

          • Alberto Sánchez

The Witcher 3’s size in PS4 is only 5GB bigger (without patches or DlC’s) than The Phantom Pain.

Does The Witcher 3’s world seem small? I don’t think so.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

True, but to be fair the game isn’t working well with the patches let alone without them :).
It’s not small indeed it’s just that I was under the impression TPP was aiming to be bigger, I could be wrong though ;).

          • No Place For Hayter

Just because an engine name has been around a while does not mean it is “mature”, having it always built the same with only additions gets engines stuck in their ways, a new engine is in a lot of ways better than “mature” engines because it is open to whatever they want it/need it to be, it isn’t some commercial name that is known for specific things and is not stuck in its ways.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

And yet, the Fox Engine mimics most of its features from these mature engines…

          • No Place For Hayter

“mimics” I think you are being a little blinded here, you understand engines and you should understand that they all share certain aspects that must be used to make and develop games. That is like saying one movie is mimicking another because it uses the same style of camera shots, they are basic tools which all use. I mean neither of us have used the engine, so I don’t think it’s fare to say the engine itself “mimics” other engines.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

I was being way to aggressive and I’ve already apologised for that and I’ll do it again. I’m sorry for being such a d*** head.

Aha, so you’ve almost reached what I’m trying to say and everyone is interpreting that I’m hating on the Fox Engine :P.
You’re right, most engines use similar techniques, you shouldn’t reinvent the wheel if you already have something that works well :).
Engines differ on behind-the-scenes stuff that make them more appropriate for a certain type of game.
What makes a game great isn’t the engine, it’s the developers :).
Kojima Productions made MGSV look the way it does, kudos to them not the Fox Engine ;).
They could’ve achieved a similar result in a different engine :).

      • Ishmael

And what you said isn’t plausible either. Fox Engine had already been used in PES 2014, they had 2 years of experience and thats a lot of time to improve and any level including compression of sizes. the engine itself is been in development for 5 years or so.

        • Ninja_Se7eN

          Lol? Are you for real?
Is PES an open world game now xD?

Open world games have very specific asset streaming needs because unlike closed arena games (like PES) they can’t load everything they need at the beginning (the loading screen). As the player walks around in the map assets are constantly being loaded and unloaded which can be highly resource consuming.
If the assets are compressed that means this process takes longer than it could (if they were uncompressed) and this can have negative impacts on the game’s performance.
This is why I believe it’s unlikely they’re compressing assets.

BTW, 5 years developing an engine is nothing compared to Unreal Engine, CryEngine or Unity 3D :).

          • BurntFM

Well, here’s the thing. Almost everyone at the Preview event and people who’ve seen the gameplay demos agree that the game looks very good and runs smoothly. I don’t see how that changed from the time they released gameplay to the time they released install size so I’m not concerned about the engine really.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

And I’ve never said the game doesn’t look good or can’t run smoothly ;).
All I’m saying is that the space requirements are weird when compared to other games.
That almost certainly means something is getting cut somewhere :).
You already know what my educated guess as to what’s being cut ;).

          • Vegas

Oh boy you are scaring the shit out of me. Your arguments make a lot of sense and i somewhat believe your words. But isn’t the real-time cutscenes parcially to blame? What about the smaller needs of TPP as an open world game? I mean, most of it is sand and rocks, it’s not like GTA or The Witcher where you have a living, breathing city (or cities) with hundreds of NPCs doing different stuff. It’s a smaller projection of an open world, even if its big in actual size. Do you know the answer to this?

          • Ninja_Se7eN

No, I can’t tell you. To know that I’d need to know development details on those games that only the developers themselves have.
GTA and The Witcher also have real-time cutscenes

Look, don’t sweat it. It’ll be an awesome game either way ;).
It is actually possible that they’ve found an outstanding way to compress stuff, I just find that unlikely.

Watch_Dogs just has a 20GB space requirement but isn’t TPP supposed to be bigger?
The city of Chicago was fairly small when compared to GTA V.

Maybe they’ll do something similar to MGS4 and you just install a chapter at a time. That way 25GB would be more than enough ;).

          • Vegas

What’s the difference between installing a chapter at the time and all of them at once? (actually curious)

          • Ninja_Se7eN

First and foremost I’d like to apologise to you and anyone who might be reading this post.
I’ve been unnecessarily aggressive and rude and for that I’m sorry.

Now, onto the reply itself in the nicest way I can put it :).

The difference is in the assets you need to have on your hard drive.
I’m if you already know what an asset is but for the sake of clarity I’m going to explain anyway :).
An asset is a game object in its final state. Here’s an image depicting an asset:
            http://img05.deviantart.net/2cd7/i/2010/330/f/b/game_asset_dev_p3_texture1_by_xaldan-d33neaw.jpg

An asset includes the model, textures, shaders and other stuff it might need.
An asset is pretty much everything you have running in the game. For instance, Big Boss is an asset, his machine-gun is another asset, a tank is another asset, the trees are assets even the map is an asset.

Now imagine that your game has 3 chapters. On chapter 1 you play on a beach, on chapter 2 you play inside a warehouse and on chapter 3 you play on a snowy mountain.
If you make a full installation you need to have on your hard drive (or SSD) assets for sand, water, beachballs, crates, trucks, doors, snow, rocks and skis.
You’ll need to have enough space to accommodate all of this.
If, on the other hand, you just install a chapter at a time then on chapter 1 you just need to install sand, water and beachballs.
Then when the player goes to chapter 2 you can uninstall sand, water and beachballs and replace that with crates, trucks and doors for the warehouse scenario :).
The same thing goes for when player transverses to chapter 3. Uninstall crates, trucks and doors and install snow, rocks and skis.

This was a very simplistic example but hopefully you understood that this way you only need a fraction of the assets installed in each chapter :).

          • Vegas

It was nice of you to apologize, the internet can be lovely xD And that was an awesome explanation, thanks. I thought in MGS4 they just installed more and more assets, not replace them. Now that makes more sense, but since it’s an open world game i think it’s unlikely they’ll do this even if only to certain parts of the game usually unacessible.

      • BurntFM

        ‘k

        • Ninja_Se7eN

I’ve already watched that video :).

Not only most of it is not about the engine itself but about asset building (which has little to do with the game engine itself) but also the part that’s about the engine is nothing special in the sense that it’s the same-old same-old other engines are doing.

Feel free to read my in-depth comment on that video here: http://disq.us/8o2k04

          • BurntFM

Why do you hate the FOX Engine so much? lol

          • Ninja_Se7eN

            Lol?
            I don’t hate the Fox Engine :P.
I just don’t think that it’s the second coming of Christ like a lot of people seem to here :P.

It’s a decent engine and it’s something that Konami needed since they were falling behind on that department.
Why they decided to make their own engine instead of adopting one I don’t know.

I’m sorry, I just get a little overworked when people start treating the Fox Engine like some sort of god among game engines when it really isn’t :P.
But that doesn’t mean it can’t do its job :P.

          • effin

State your credentials and authorization to make value judgments on gaming engines

          • Ninja_Se7eN

I’ve got an MsC in Electronic and Computers Engineering from one of the best colleges where I live, I’ve developed small graphical applications using Unity 3D. I’ve studied Unreal Engine and used a graphical engine, I coded shaders in both HLSL and GLSL, I’ve used a graphical engine alone and I’ve studied and used PhysX from nVidia.
My master thesis was on GPGPU which means that I’ve studied some of nVidia’s GPUs architecture.

In short, yeah I know my shit :P.

What about you? What are your credentials :P?

          • No Place For Hayter

You have all that and don’t see the good in the FOX engine and call it average to below average? seriously? OK fine, In your opinion what is a great ground breaking game engine, and please don’t respond with a video of a super scripted planned and short tiny world demo showcase, I’m talking an engine that can actually make a good large game and still look amazing and uses ground breaking ideas and techniques.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

You’re confusing a game engine with a game.
Developers make the game, not the game engine.
You can make games without game engines.
Crappy engines can yield great games and great engines can yield crappy games.
Great developers will make great games regardless of the engine, the game engine just facilitates the development process.

You want a great engine for open world games? Dunia Engine is one of them, but not the only one ;).

          • No Place For Hayter

We are talking about the FOX engine at its finest, TPP, doing a huge open world game developed by the people whom made the engine themselves. Neither of us have used the engine so we can only talk about the products that have come from and will come from the engine. And we are talking about the capabilities of the FOX engine, you can’t talk about the engine without talking about its games. The game is developed primarily with the FOX engine so there is nothing wrong about discussing them together. I am not confusing the game and the engine together. And yes crappy engines can make good games and good engines can make bad games, but don’t bring that in, we are not talking about the game quality we are talking about the visual quality and the quality of the engine itself and that has nothing to do with the game quality of the games it is made with, it has to do with the engines visual quality, and the techniques and quality of the engine itself.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

I think I’ve already covered everything I was going to reply here on other posts to you (including apologies).
Long story short, game engines shouldn’t be judged on visual quality ;).

          • effin

Must I state mine? I’m not the one lecturing people about the value of this gaming engine.
My position is “I don’t know,” and frankly, neither do you.
You’re making arbitrary claims about something you haven’t spent time with.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

First and foremost I’d like to apologise to you and anyone who might be reading this post.
I’ve been unnecessarily aggressive and rude and for that I’m sorry.

Now, onto the reply itself in the nicest way I can put it :).

About Fox Engine I just know what was shown on that video at GDC 2013, nothing more nothing less and I never pretended to know more ;).
On several comments here I’ve stated that what I’m saying are educated guesses based on what I know on game development :).
Granted I’m no expert but I do know some things :).

Regarding the value of the game engine, I never said it was bad. From GDC 2013, the small part that they showed was mostly on par with other engines ;).
But I do think people are putting way too much value on the game engine when they should be putting it on the developers.
Kojima Productions developed that game and it seems they did a pretty good job (as always).
A similar final result could be achieved with a different engine and in the end, it’s the skills of the developers that count, not how good or bad the engine is :).
Bioshock 2 is an excellent example of this ;).

          • No Place For Hayter

I think the FOX engine is a god engine in my eyes, lol. It does lighting and looks better than any engine I have seen shown off, it is a key idea for the engine of bringing things from real life into the game, and to have it multiplatform while running well, TPP is the first MGS to launch multiplatform, and is the first to launch cross gen that is because the engine was designed that way, I have not seen an engine stand up to the quality of the FOX engine

          • Ninja_Se7eN

You’re basing most of your judgment on visual aspects witch depend more on artists than on the engine itself :).
There are a lot of engines doing lightning and you don’t even need a game engine to do that.
Unity 3D and Unreal engine were doing multi-platform before the Fox Engine and they even do mobile platforms as well :).

          • No Place For Hayter

The lighting thing is important because instead of outsourcing that aspect they tried to master it themselves making some seriously nice and realistic lighting within their own engine. I also mentioned the multi-platform bit because it is important to the FOX engine, any other engine requires a lot of work to having something run its best on every platform, and because it is hard developers always develop for the lowest common denominator and port that to the higher quality platforms, but the FOX engines seeks to make it a lot easier to actually have the game play its best on all platforms without having to cater to the lowest common denominator among the platforms.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

First and foremost I’d like to apologise to you and anyone who might be reading this post.
I’ve been unnecessarily aggressive and rude and for that I’m sorry.

Now, onto the reply itself in the nicest way I can put it :).

You’re right, lighting is indeed very important ;). There are some developers who hire people specifically just for lighting.
The lighting effects on GZ and TPP are very nice and are pleasant to eye :).
Kojima Productions did a good job on that front.
However the lighting system they’re using is by no means exclusive to the Fox Engine, a similar result can be achieved on different engines since most of them allow you to program your custom lighting system :).
It’s usually common practice to adjust the lighting system to the particular needs of a game (like Kojima Productions has done) to make sure it looks good and doesn’t consume too much resources.

I’ve never used the Fox Engine (I believe it’s still Konami exclusive) but I can tell you that the engine that I’ve used the most (Unity 3D) has built in functions for multi-platform that make your life very easy when developing for multi-platforms.
For instance, you can make a build of your current project for any platform (PC, mac, consoles and mobile) with just a click of a button, additionally it has built-in libraries optimised for consoles and for mobile.
I can’t tell wether the Fox Engine is the easiest of them all but I can tell that the Fox Engine isn’t the only one that has that multi-platform goal :).

          • Rone

he’s just being a neigh-sayer instead of a dick-rider; although he appears to be bragging about knowing everything, it’s just his attitude. it doesn’t seem like he hates the engine. You can tell by the smiley’s and the winky faces that he’s the type of person that needs this sort of ‘better than you/ i’m always right’ appearance. Let him have it, he isn’t necessarily wrong to be doubtful.
Furthermore, file size isn’t too big of a deal, as long as the game is great. Remember that Skyrim was the same gigabyte size as Oblivion. The Skyrim map was admittedly only a litle bit bigger, but the dungeons were more massive, there was more content in every way (audio voice actors, etc.), and the graphics were much higher quality. I wouldn’t look into this number too deeply. let us also remember that evolve is 36 gigs and it includes: no campaign, a small amount of levels, a small amount of shitty dialogue, and annoying grindy gameplay, whereas vanilla Skyrim was only 6 gigabytes. The only point i’m making is that data can be managed extremely well, like in Skyrim’s case, or very poorly like in Evolve’s case (these terms might not directly equate to the point i’m trying to make, as it may just be the engines fault). Maybe there are different compressions for different engines, maybe Bethesda had a kickass programmer, or maybe they’ve made tons of open world games before and have a shit ton of experience.
Anyways, i think we should admit 2 things: this isn’t important, and we know nothing.
Regardless, this will be a great game.

          • glitchbomb

            I noticed that too. ” 😉 “

      • Acheron

How much experience do you have with game-engine creation? And how do you know the KojiPro team isn’t qualified to create a game engine? Odd that you say that when Ground Zeroes’ and PES are already using it, and using it well…

        • Ninja_Se7eN

          Game-engine creation? None.
Game engine usage? Roughly 2 years, not much.
Programming? About 7 years in different languages.

I never said they can’t make a game engine, they can of course, but making a game engine for an open world game is a whole other level.
Neither PES nor GZ are open world games, open world games have high resource demanding asset streaming tech that non-open-world game engines don’t have.
While those games are using Fox Engine, they’re not using specific tech for open world games that TPP requires.

Developing a game engine is not an easy task and usually game engines are specialised for a certain type of game.
This means engines specialised in open world games should not be used for closed arena games and vice-versa.
Don’t take my word for it, go check out the history of the CryEngine and how it spanned two different engines: one for open world and the other for non-open-world games.

      • No Place For Hayter

It doesn’t have to have some ground breaking compression, I mean by having all the audio in the game in a lossy format alone saves a lot of space, the FOX engine was designed to be multiplatform and do the best it can on each, thus saving space and data where ever it can. Also I’d believe they had some special stuff in the FOX engine, the FOX engine is ground breaking and really really impressive, and it actually looks nice, unlike something like the series of Unreal engines which all look overly manly and blocky. The FOX engine anything but amateurish, cheap, and made poorly.

        • Ninja_Se7eN

I already explained this over and over again so I won’t bother doing that again.
Graphics have little to do with the game engine itself, they have more to do with the graphics engine ;).
I highly doubt the engine compresses assets themselves.
Fox Engine isn’t bad but it really isn’t groundbreaking either :P. It’s on par with other engines like I’ve mentioned before ;).

  • Ken Shiro

Will the Japanese version have both English and Japanese audio? Same question for EU and NA versions.

    • Andrea Feletti

      Only pc version

      • kalacoste

Also the EN save data is different from JP

  • Javier

I’m reading 1984 and I don’t see any relationship with tpp. Maybe I have to use the imagination. The only thing I see is the year.

    • Lewis

The game hasn’t come out yet, and you are already looking for relation.

And btw, information control in 1984 doesn’t remind of anything that would start/develop in TPP and showoff later. Really, nothing.

    • Tong Ninja

hmm, based on Zero’s dialogue in the E3 2015 trailer, his motive is to unite everyone (regardless of race, religion, sex, our faces), etc. together through some language system. He plans to ‘use words to control the subconscious’.

In the novel 1984, that form of control has already been put in place. While in TPP, Zero is starting to implement it or is planning to. So yeah, no direct relationship yet haha. Hope you enjoy the novel! 😀

  • kalacoste

This game… too much hype. I mean its almost in every gaming website especially Computer store and stuff like that. Oh my god, so proud of this series, can’t wipe my tears (T-T)7

PsSSSsst. I wanted to ask you a quick question that may not be ok to have here. 🙂
Don’t worry its not mgsv related at all.
I tried contacying you via the friends messaging over psn but it’s being buggy. Sling me a quick email @ glitchbomb@gmail.com and I can ask you there. 🙂

Good luck and take care out there, man!

Well, gratz for the job bro…but hopefully the waiting for your TPP won’t too painful :(.

    • angeliquedevive

oh man, that’s so sad… but positive thing is money, sad thing is u can’t play TPP when we do. *feels*

  • DavidHSnake

I’m really not worried about the file size. I dont think konami would cut chunks of the game whatsoever. In kojima we trust

  • Icosikaidigon

I think a lot of people were expecting the game to have areas in addition to Afghanistan and Africa. But I highly doubt that it will. MG1 takes place in Africa, so it makes sense that MGSV would end there.

  • FOX

Well this game was built for ps3&xbox360 in mind. One of the reasons fox engine built was to go multiplatform. So i guess it was already planned to be 2 discs for xbox360 from the begining. So belive it or not this game is kind of remastered version of a last gen game since the engine development started in 2008. İ still believe the game is huge though. İ think the main reason is everything runs in real time and the fox engine uses low polygons and textures but does the job its excellent lightning. Lets wait for sept.1 and find out.

  • PHatCAt_82

I can’t wait to play The Phantom Pain, but what’s weird is that MGS4: Guns of the Patriots was 26.6 GB, and seeing on how TPP is 25.1 GB. Someone please help me out am I missing something here?

    • Javier

pes 13 (with the old engine) was like 7gb and pes 14 (fox) is 5gb.

    • No Place For Hayter

MGS4 was cutscene hell and uncompressed as all hell, TPP is little cutscenes and compressed as all hell. MGS4 had little gameplay, TPP has a lot of gameplay.

      Also FOX engine.

      • PHatCAt_82

Yeah MGS4 did have huge cutscenes.

Hi people I have a metal gear solid blog up just me giving
my thoughts on stuff so if you could check it out that would be awesome HERE’S
    THE LINK https://roadtometalgearsolid5.wordpress.com/

  • ShalashaskaWasHerSon

25GB for a rumored 120 mission main game and multiplayer?
It’s either they cut content from the main game and are reselling it as paid DLC (So not 120 missions). Or it’s the cross gen development with it’s inferior textures and geometry making their way in the next gen version. Hence the smaller file size. Now I’m worried.

    • No Place For Hayter

Don’t be worried, you can check out the other comments for plenty of reasons as to why it is not FRICKEN HUGE in data size.

  • JDSS1

    Greetings

At the end of the GDC trailer the one who says ”V has come to” is Amanda, right?

    • No Place For Hayter

      Greetings 🙂

I don’t think it is Amanda (I never actually wondered whether that is an in game line spoken by someone or not, things just got more confusing, lol) Amanda was dumped hard after PW and wasn’t even in GZ, so I doubt we will see Amanda in TPP.

  • vic boss

Well if graphics don’t matter to be a good game, neither does the size of it . I still have faith in Kojima.
Also do you guys think that TPP it’s gonna make us cry? At least I always cry every single time I Beat mgs3. It’s kinda weird that it happens every time. Also I shed a tear or two with the ending of mgs4 , but nothing like mgs3 it’s just too tragic and sad for me. I’m doubting that TPP can top that ending.

    • ShalashaskaWasHerSon

The ending to MGS3 is very sad. I really felt for The Boss. She had a good reason. I cried at the end of MGS4 because it was so bad. Hours of my life I’m not getting back. Totally nonsensical and bait and switch riddled. As for the ending?……WHEW!

      Loved the boss battles though.

    • The Reaver

Every MGS ending has impacted me to some significant degree, but the endings to MGS3, MGS4, and Peace Walker probably impacted me the most. I really don’t know how TPP can top them, but Kojima never ceases to surprise me, and I’d definitely expect him to make the final ending to his final MGS to be something quite special. Personally, I’ve had the idea of a final “debriefing” mission (that exists more like the extra chapter at the end of Peace Walker or the debriefing act in MGS4 than as the ending to the campaign) that essentially shows the ending of MGS4 from Big Boss’s perspective. From the point that he’s released from his nanomachine coma and the location of Zero is revealed, the player (as old Big Boss) has to infiltrate and attempt to end Zero, only to find Zero in the state that he was in in MGS4, then some final monologue toward Zero, then scene.

  • Darby Crash

From what I understood playing GZ the models and textures remains the same, only colors changes and some effects (dust, blood) are applied to them. The rest of the magic is performed by light and shadows. So in TPP let’s say we could see the same type of barrel but in Afghanistan is red and dusty, in Africa is blue and covered with mud.
The thing that amazes me is the real time processing of all of these things, for a 60 fps game is stunningly made even if this implies that objects are popping every few steps.
So the size is reasonable, even if I thought it took around 35 gb, this means that is really well optimized for consoles.
Maybe the PC version comes heavier due to 4k textures.

    • Golgari

Yeah, PBR lighting makes the game look really great. That’s the thing about the Fox Engine and MGSV. I’m interested in African jungles, because 60 frames per second on consoles with jungles is not easy to do in my opinion. I’m not sure that the game is 60 fps in everything, but with these graphics this is a true achievement.

      • Darby Crash

Yep. The African demo it’s promising. I expected trees popping up on our faces but it seems all right from what i remember. As you said maybe fps decreases on that environment.

        • No Place For Hayter

I think the only problem I had with the African jungle, was that (in its pre-polish state though lol) was that snake was walking through half the foliage without it being effected by him.

          • Darby Crash

I think it’s something they’ll leave as is. Even in GZ the guards coats passes through objects, as a guard lays down on a spotting turret you’ll see part of his coat floating through the pavement and more other weirdnesses. It’s a little ugly to see (if you spot it) but not a great issue while you are focusing on the mission. Same thing with popping up stuff.

  • stagueda

Well if 25GB worries peoples than watch the US psn file size (i know it just counts the theme file size but i’m just trolling a bit =p)

Yeah, nothing new here. The last gen versions have always been 49.99

      • Rone

oh shit, my bad. i didn’t realize it was for the ps3. however i don’t think games were always 49.99 on xbox 360/ps3. i’m pretty sure they were 60 dollars as well. although i may be mistaken, i have been hiding in the PC world for quite some time, so i could still be wrong

    • MichaelPayneV

    That doesn’t seem big enough.

  • Joaquin Romero Victorica

    hehehehe hohoho hihihi

  • Ryan Locke

So what equipment will you guys be looking to research first? My most anticipated is the tranquilizer sniper(probably mosin nugant), or any good tranq weapon(also including the stun assault riffle), the cardboard box, night vision goggles for the forests, and the good ol diamond dog to spot and tag team enemies. That’s all I need lol Sneaking suit would be nice, but I don’t think it’s a requirement for me.

      • Ryan Locke

I also can’t wait for the sleep grenade. It seems so OP but soooo cool.

    • An early FAMAS… yeah

    • MichaelPayneV

The first thing i’ll do is Fight and Recruit Quiet, then everything will come natural.

    • “I always wanted to be a hunter.” (cough cough) LOL

So i will get my sniper rifle ready in the first missions

    • The Reaver

For at least one mission I intend to find a high place and just snipe away at the base. I wonder if it’s possible to snipe with Quiet.

    • Gatsu

I need my Cardboard box, it is my destiny.

      • Mini gear

        Same here borther

      • angeliquedevive

Cardboard box would be useful in Helsinki. “Do not see me, I’m invisible. Just ignore this box. D:” *Country girl going to big city*

        • Gatsu

Joo ois tosi hyödyllinen XD, ei kukaan huomais haha :D.

    • Steven Michael Brown

Same here. Tranquilizer sniper is top. If you start with mk .22 which I’m assuming. Binos will be very important. Assuming we start with those like in gz. Assault rifle for sure. Them probably thermals

  • Solid O. #V

On which platform you will play MGSV: The Phantom Pain ?

    http://strawpoll.me/4563005

    • MichaelPayneV

Holly sh*t, wasn’t expecting that platform to lead, based what people say here.

Now please, to all of you who voted, do not say which one leads, please. Thank you.

      • Ol’ Jack Burton

It’s an old poll from /v/, so it’s not really a surprising turnout, given they’re predominantly PC guys over there.

        • MichaelPayneV

You sone of a…why, why did you do that?!

Are you an id-ot, i just told you DO NOT SAY which platform leads, that influences the votes whether you agree or not, and then what you’re doing, say it out loud that PC leads?

Now seriously, do you understand English, if Yes then why the actual f…did you that, just, WHY!?

          • Ol’ Jack Burton

          • MichaelPayneV

            You got me.

          • Why don’t you just calm down there buddy. You don’t have to get like that.

          • MichaelPayneV

And he didn’t had to say it either.

          • Any one who clicked on it could see what you were talking about. It’s but a secret, nor is it a big deal.

          • MrVux007

Dayum,Mike smoke some Phantom cigar…its just a stupid poll that has little significance…

          • YupStill

            Hey everyone:

            PC is leading.

            Ps4 is in second place.

        • MrVux007

yep, that explains the number of votes

      • Solid O. #V

Hmmm we should make a new poll

  • Imre saladin

    The full afghanistan map

    • Now that’s a map.

      • Mini gear

        And that’s just afgan 🙂

    • MichaelPayneV

and it looks like is just as big as Far Cry 4’s Kyrat.

    • stagueda

Where did this map appear? What is you source, or i’ll have Ocelot interrogate you 😛

      • Tong Ninja

        Famitsu I believe. 🙂

    • BurntFM

hmm. I see that those 25 points of interest are guard posts. I wonder how many Easter eggs we’re going to find all together in Afghanistan alone. I’m exited.

    • Andrea Feletti

      Afghanistan is a big place

    • Cartmangus

This part has me curious. Also it doesn’t have a letter or number assigned to it which is pretty strange considering it looks to be by far the biggest outpost on the map.

      • Golgari

This is not really an outpost. This is the place where the latest Metal Gear is right now. We saw it in the trailers, so it is basically a secret hideout where research is going on.

        • Cartmangus

          yeah that’s probably right.

    • Gatsu

      Damn, that’s a huge map :O…

  • MichaelPayneV

“With this, i rid the world of infestation, “Sans Lingua Franca”

Looks like we have the name for Skull face’s Virus that makes the Grey Eyes, “San Lingua Franca” which translates to “Without Language”

  • As some of you know, there are theories over there about the ruse Kojima has made, to make the player to feel like Snake, like if we miss something (the phantom pain), that something lacks or it’s been cut, so that’s why Silent Hills got “cancelled”, and many other stuff in alike ways.

So, if this ruse is real, i’m scared to get the news someday about “MGO3 won’t be finished at time or get cancelled”, so we will “miss” that thing too. Hopefully, this won’t happen. :scared:

I want my MGO3 the first day!

    • SNKtheStampede

      Holy Gif!!!

    • SNKtheStampede

Yes… we would all love to be played like damned fiddles this time. I dont’ think though, I mean: Kojima kaminade, but this envolves too many people and stuff…

  • Sithlord 48

I think everyone is looking at the file size incorrectly. This is not the size of the installed game its the size of the install package. Like most installers the data is compressed to make the initial download smaller. For example if you look at the psn store for GTAV its download size is 44.8GB, if you look at the games case it needs 55GB and my PS4 says GTAV is using 50.25GB.

  • Kawaii Monster

Famitsu leaks the map that comes with hard copies of the game, possible spoilers but I didn’t see any

    • Tong Ninja

The map for Afghanistan itself is a spoiler! haha
Oh well, people who are going to play it at Gamescom will get to see the whole map as well. Also the people at the previews saw it as well. 🙂

    • Tong Ninja

So is anyone good at computer geometry?? 🙂
Can anyone estimate roughly how many Ground Zeroes maps can fit on this first map of Northern Kabul (Afghanistan)?? 😀

    • Tong Ninja

If you look closely at the top of the map, there is a lake! 😀
Can we swim in it? haha

      • Shiragama

One of my biggest hopes, to be honest, is the ability to swim :D. It would add more ways to approach enemies. And maybe we could then fulton some water animals 😀

        • Tong Ninja

Water stealth would be awesome! 🙂

    • Dr. Blowfish

      (Not 100% sure- image blurry)
This is the camp from the first gameplay demo we saw, under the “23”.

      • If you look closely closer at everywhere, there are pixels 😛
Can we get blind now? Haha.

  • kalacoste

I hope MGO and FOB will came with cross-platform and cross-generation capability, want to meet all of you guys in game 🙂

These guys will be playing tpp for three days to finish main story

      • Gatsu

3 days wouldn’t be enough for me, lol.

      • Tong Ninja

Cool! I guess that means they are going to review the game as well then and then release the review near the release date? 🙂

Also, this implies that the game is finally being done polished and they are still working on Metal Gear Online?

      • RJRO

Where are the CSI guys when they are need it.

      • Wondering what’s the point in letting people playing the whole game till beating it in this place. Never heard of this.

  • IFPrototypeLQ-84i

    I guess
you don’t need much space when you just reuse the same sand and desert
art, not to mention the obviously low poly last gen assests over and
over, lets not forget this game is just a juiced up PS3 game

    Going
by the leaked Afghanistan map, this game is pretty much a bunch of
enemy outposts separated by a huge chunks of empty wasteland, no wonder
this game takes so little space.

    Even Assassins Creed offers more
interesting open world settings…… oh well, there is Africa thank
god, i hope all those 5+ years of dev time shows a good and high
detailed jungle, because the desert has to be the most by the numbers
sterile setting in a open world game ever.

It’s 1080p 60fps on PS4, because its just a last gen game, simple as that, there is not secret sauce/voodoo magic here.
    This
game just screams last gen, low poly models, bad textures, pop in, a
disgusting sterile/bland look, it has the most boring setting imaginable
compared to other open world games.

    Is the worst looking open
world game imo, Infamous SS, GTAV, Batman: AK, Witcher 3 just wipe the
floor with MGSV in the visual front.

    • Andrea Feletti

I respect your opinions…i have to see the final game in action and in it’s totality to judge :/

    • Tuvieja

      You mad Bro?

    • Gatsu

Wow you’re full of disappointment :(.

“Even Assassins Creed offers more interesting open world settings… ” and they are all so boring games :P.

What did you expect Afghanistan would be like, a country with billion skyscrapers?

Surely we all got own opinions, but I think TPP looks fantastic. It’s just that gamers these days want everything look like real life, even if one rock look bad they are disappointed. Infamous SS setting was boring imo…just some city I mean come on. GTAV too. I did finish them though, but I just found them so boring.

I get it that gamers care a lot about graphics these days, but I find it sad just how much. I might be in the minority, but I’m glad MGSV release on past consoles too. Also I don’t think you even know how it is so small, because you ain’t developing the game.

But imo it’s not the worst looking. I love MGS and TPP, so can’t be disappointed with it at all, lol. It would be better to play the game first though, before crushing it down like that.

    • BurntFM
    • kuaikukia

well, some people like to taste high end graphic and I don’t blame them. But I highly believe, true MGS fans doesn’t put the graphic in their priority.

    • FMercenary

Race, tribal affiliations, national borders, even your comment will be irrelevant.

      • BurntFM

It already is irrelevant. Nobody has upvoted him and everyone seems to disagree with his opinion but this isn’t reddit, 4chan or neogaf where they can bait people into an argument, here at MGI we respect points of view even when they are completely and utterly wrong. LOL

  • Shiragama

Hey Guys, just want to let you know to be careful when visiting the metal gear solid reddit page. There’s someone who claims that he played through the game and because of that he wants to make a post over there about the whole plot, buddies, locations etc.. So I know that this could be a fake, but as i read there are some guys who are playing/played it recently and appearently he proofed that he indeed played it, but i didn’t looked after it. He is going to post in a few minutes.

Maybe there will be some trolls which just write them in some random posts, so be careful 🙂

    • Gatsu

Thanks for the heads up, but there’s a chance it’s fake. Not many have finished TPP as far as I know, and the people in Japan are doing that 3 day playing now to finish it.

      • Shiragama

Yeah, you’re possibly right. I don’t really know since when they are playing it. That would be helpfull.

    • Gatsu

Well I hope it’s not the real plot omg o_O. Release is still over a month away -_-… There’s been leaked fake plots few in the past, which were pretty well done.

      • Mini gear

Codex said something about having the ps3 cfw and ps4 raw

      • Shisen

        has the post been disappeared?

        • Gatsu

          I dunno, haven’t checked.

    • Gatsu

His proof is this: “(PROOF I AM LEGIT: http://imgur.com/2UlYIOU I just checked and this hasn’t been released publicly. It was given to me when I finished the game. So there, I think it’s an undeniable
      proof).”

Just a photo of those glasses that anyone can buy, but yeah they release in September. It reminds me of that 2014 fake leak I think. Where the leaker posted a similar photo, of some KojiPro/TPP item which anyone could get. I dunno how he could finish it when the journalists even didn’t.

But anyway, better avoid his user page if that bastard did play it. Annoying when people gotta post spoilers, when we just wanna wait for the freaking game and see it ourselves then… :/

    • Tong Ninja

I MAINLY visit here and yongyea’s channel for MGSV news/information. 😀

But thanks for the heads up anyways! 🙂

      • Golgari

        https://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/2307/4504/original.jpg

Some people are playing right now (on Steam too). Release is soon and spoilers are incoming in a big way. Just saying that ppl should avoid posting spoilers here.

        Cheers man.

        • Mini gear

Time to go into hiding my friend

        • Gatsu

I wonder if the people playing on Steam belong to Rob’s group, like if they’re testing out the PC version and such.

    • Any chance to get a “spoiler” button so we can put spoilers in secret or invisible till you pass the mouse over?
That would be a nice feature here.

      Thanks 🙂

      • Gatsu

I think only Nyxus could do that, if it even can be done somehow :P. But he’ll be away for quite some time.

    • Tong Ninja

Yeah, they have already signed the NDA, but they still post spoilers on reddit, 4chan, or any other forums they can find which is really disappointing. Then other people proceed to spread it like wildfire all over the internet.

So it would be cool if Nxyus or the moderators can delete any spoiler posts here. 🙂

    • Gatsu

Yeah lets hope we stay clear…

  • Andrea Feletti

Collectors edition avaiable again on game.uk…just sayin

  • Golgari

    And some good news:

Kojima and del Toro are still planning to work on a project together

    http://www.vg247.com/2015/07/24/sient-hills-hideo-kojima-guillermo-del-toro/

It’s happening guys. New iP? YES Please.

    • MeLand127

Really excited what those genius duo going to make XD

      • War Games Via Live Bullets

I am as well. However, I’m not too big on horror games. It doesn’t excite me as much as stealth games.

        • MeLand127

I do as well sir, a stealth game fans 😀

    • Allison Road, lol.
It’s obvious that game trailer we watched is the Fox Engine.
Even the sound effects and filtering in the radio is the same one from P.T.

If this is Silent Hills with another name, or it’s another game, i don’t know…
But that looks like exact to Fox Engine.

      • Gatsu

Aye that was amazing! It truly did deliver feeling and look of PT.

        • I hope you did notice the Omega symbol in the wall in 1:28 minute, lol.
Which made me think about Camp Omega…

          • Gatsu

            Yeah I did :).

    • Eugene Voldo

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but if Del Toro says “I’m planning to do
a project together with someone else” it generally means nothing. You can
look up his biography and see that A LOT of his projects just fall apart even before
      going into pre-production.

    • Gatsu

Yeeees this make me so happyyy ;D !

    • MichaelPayneV

To be honest, i wouldn’t mind this not being a Video Game as long as is made by them.

  • Joaquin Romero Victorica

I Don’t trust ign . The interview post it is almost the same about some months ago

    • MichaelPayneV

You have, is called GROUND ZEROES!

  • Ozzman

Really? That Fox engine’s awesome!! I thought it will break the record of GTA V with more than 55GB on PS4!!
Good for me! Gonna try it @ first day with digital version

  • Ryan Locke

What spoilers would you guys want to see?
I wouldn’t want anything about the story, but I would want to see the cardboard box research tree, how to make the sniper tranq, what upgrades can be added to the tranq pistol, and what upgrades can be made to the buddies. But thats all I want to know. lol

    • BurntFM

Nothing. We’re just a little over a month away from release date. I’ve been keeping busy with a Ranma 1/2 marathon so time will fly 😛

    • Gatsu

Not much, I’ve already seen enough of the game :P.

    • Andrea Feletti

no spoilers. Is that possible at all? 🙂

    • MichaelPayneV

I guess we should not have spoilers here, if we want spoilers, then Reddit is where to go and find out about them.

    • Ryan Locke

I don’t want anything about the story, and I don’t want any spoilers at all really. I’m not asking for spoilers, just asking what you would want to know. I support the no spoiler philosophy lol I was just trying to make conversation

    • Ryan Locke

The only spoilers I ever want from games is the kind like what technologies you can get, or what happens when you level up a certain trait. And only so I don’t spend valuable skill points or currency on something I’ll never use

  • Gatsu

Yeah fellow Diamond Doggies, as Golgari said below please do not post any spoilers of TPP. As tempted as you might be to share if see or read something cool, I beg you to not. There are things I don’t consider hugely spoilerish, like that map posted below. But as the people over Japan are given the freedom to play TPP for 3 days, for reviews? I dunno why they gotta do it so early ;C… Anyway, there will be always some maggot who post stuff about the plot on the internet.

Most of us have waited since 2012 to experience Kojima’s last MGS story, so lets try keep this place clean for one more month. I’m not an A.I. , so I can’t keep checking for spoiler posts 24/7, but I’ll do my best with Golgari and crimsonfox to delete any if see. And yes we can do more than just delete posts, if someone keeps spamming spoilers here. I certainly DON’T want story ruined for me… this last month is the thing I’ve been scared most about of TPP waiting, when got my GZ ending ruined last year ;(…

    • Eugene Voldo

      SPOILER TIME: Chico is Quiet!
…Nah, it’s not a spoiler. Though I think that MGI mods will have a lot of work when real spoilers leak on the internet. All I can say is good luck since MGI mods will be the first victims of spoilers 🙁

      • Gatsu

OMG Chicoooo, so it is true !? Hehe just kidding, I know it’s not ;).

Thanks :D, we’ll take the hits for y’all haha. If I see some, I refuse to believe them lol. Or try to forget somehow.
        https://38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0q1bwqvIs1rqnbfjo1_250.gif

But hey, maybe MGI get lucky and won’t see much, just hoping the last month goes fast. Also can’t forget that PC release come 2 week later, but not sure is it possible to keep this place clean after Sep 1 very well D:. Maybe good idea to avoid net during the 2 weeks.

        • FZJanimated

i think the best to do is to close the comments for a while 😛

    • Tong Ninja

Thank you Gatsu, Golgari and Crimsonfox for moderating the comments for spoilers!! 😀

Hopefully, you won’t have to do too much moderating (or none at all)! 🙂

    • Javier

I remember my waiting for gz. One day before the release I was reading comments in the mg facebook page and one was “the second bomb is in paz ass”. It destroyed the ending to me. The game leaked like 3 days before release for old gen, it could happen the same with tpp.

      • Gatsu

Yeah I got spoiled the same way :(, but in youtube… I was like, NO that isn’t true. But then when the ending of GZ approached for me I knew it was gonna happen.

Early leak will certainly happen with TPP too. It’s a shame games don’t release at same time around the world, always someone getting early copy for example.

  • Sn4ke_911

    ..

    • Gatsu

Ken just owned the dude! It’s only numbers, doesn’t mean the game will be small. Witcher 3 is a little bigger in GB size and it’s massive :).

You have got to be da top middle man Diamon Dog!

  • Pawelo

AAaaaaa, I accidentally clicked that Reddit spoiler thing people warned about – luckily the main post was deleted, so I proceeded to read some comments but this spoiler guys is relentless and he made another entry within the comments section without a spoiler warning! I saw some crucial details before turning my eyes away…. I wish there was a way to unsee something regardless if it’s fake or not…

    • MichaelPayneV

Can you link me to it? I’ll be careful what i read, i know what spoilers i’m looking for, and not just have no problem knowing them, but want to know them. Thanks.

      • Pawelo

The guy doesn’t just reveal spoilers, he gives away the ending (and sense) of the game with massive spoilers right from the start. You will have no logical way to filter out things you don’t want because the post is not written in a logical way

        • Don’t even hint at spoilers here please haha

        • MichaelPayneV

O.K. still, can you tell me whether there is another map except Angola, Afghanistan, Cyprus and the 2 Mother Base, any mention of Grojny Grad?

          • Pawelo

He doesn’t give small details like that, he goes straight for the big spoilers. Plus I managed to turn it off after reading a few things and realizing what I was reading. Cleared my history after that. He is an evil evil evil man

    • Please do not put links on this site, anyone else who is interested can go to Reddit and find it themselves.

    • Pawelo

I will not put links here…I so regret reading it that I would not want put anyone through the same

      • MichaelPayneV

All i want to know is, has Grojny Grad been even mentioned?

        • Pawelo

I only saw a few sentences before turning the page off so I don’t know.

          • MichaelPayneV

            O.K. fair enough.

    • Gatsu

Person’s like that are such evil human beings, why gotta spoil the greatest game ever for us fans :(. There is the chance that it is fake, i didn’t read it. But I remember reading last year this one good fake leak, which I honestly regretted right after. But it ended up being fake in the end, thank god.

    • Gatsu

A skilled dude with good imagination can make believable fake leak, especially after all we have seen so far of the game. I know it’s hard to stay away from them, but when the game is so close now I will do my best not to read those. Hope you can forget some of things he wrote :(.

      • Pawelo

Yes, this thing sounded very believable and very Kojima-esque, luckily I only read a little bit – hopefully I will forget after replaying MGS3 and Peace Walker before 1st September 🙂

      • ObsessedGeorge

Sorry man, but being a mod here, you, Golgari and Crimsonfox is certain to get spoiled by some people that will post story stuff or troll in general. Since it’s up to you to keep this Outer Heaven secured. 🙁

  • MichaelPayneV

Guys, have you seen this? Looks like Konami gave this guy extra audio from the game to use in his fan-made Trailer.
Isn’t this amazing? I really hope they give Yong or Sneaking Fox something like this.
    https://youtu.be/_M1rqsUtcgs

    • Gatsu

Oh my god O_O…amazing! I like that scream in the end too!

      • Since it’s still a fan trailer at the end of the day, could the Lori Alan thing be his own doing?

        • Gatsu

Could be possible it is his own, but in youtube channel he say sound and voice belong to Konami and thanks Konami for letting him do the video hmm. After thinking little more, I wonder if they ending scream is Kiefer. I’ve watched 24 and Jack Bauer never sounded like that imo, but then again he never screamed like that in torture scenes lol (because Bauer is badass) :).

      • Tong Ninja

From the looks of it, only the sound effects were given to him by Konami.

The scream at the end, was not Kiefer’s haha. He made it himself. 🙂

      • Tong Ninja

Also, the dialogue “Death …, so be it”, actually came from the 2014 World Cup Preview which was narrated by Kiefer. Watch the first 7 seconds or so haha. 🙂

        • Gatsu

WOOOOOOOAH pretty awesome :O, I didn’t know he narrated that. Okey so it wasn’t really Big Boss, but the voice still was Kiefer XD. Thanks :D:D

But still in TPP, I think Big Boss will go so mad, that he’s like ready to accept death. Stabbing himself with DD soldier’s knives etc.

          • Tong Ninja

Yeah Big Boss was rallying the troops for World Cup Glory! XD

    • Andrea Feletti

      The nurse is Lori alan

    • Javier

No, this is just edition. And a very bad one.

  • MichaelPayneV

Is it just me, or “V has come to” sounds like Lori Alan?

    Just a thought.

    • Not at all, The nurse tho…

      • MichaelPayneV

Now who is that nurse keep bugging me, is it Amanda, is it Cecile, is it EVA?

      • MichaelPayneV

“The nurse tho…” who looks like a Fox Engine Lori Alan.

    • Gatsu

I always thought it was just some Japanese woman saying it for the trailer. Sounds like some robot, not saying Japanese women sound like robots but they way she say it in the trailer.

      • Ravenous

I’ve always thought it was just some random woman saying it for the trailer’s sake too, and there is some accent there, but how did you land at Japanese?
I always thought it was some European accent or other for some reason 🙂

        • Gatsu

Hmm I’ve watched Japanese movies where actors sometimes talk English and it just sounded a bit similar :).

          • MichaelPayneV

They could also be the only words Quiet will speak…when she dies.

      • MichaelPayneV

All tough the nurse looks like Lori Alan, maybe the nurse looking like her is part of the hallucination, maybe the nurse is actually black.

  • Mauricio Acosta

So I remember it like it was yesterday. PAX 2012 and the rumors of a new Metal Gear was in the air. Then it hit. The Ground Zeroes cutscene was shown behind closed doors with people not believing their eyes. I remember immediately after seeing the trailer booting up Metal Gear Solid. It has been almost 3 years to that day!

Just yesterday I finished my play through of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3 and 4. On top of that, I still have Peace Walker to replay and to Platinum Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes. I have put aside playing anything else until I put in at least 4 months into The Phantom Pain.

Before I pop in the disk, I will watch every trailer for Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain and just bask in all of it’s glory! I honestly can say that I have not been more excited for a game or anything in my life than what will happen on September the first!! V Has Come To!

    • Gatsu

Yeah, 3 years gone pretty fast when now think about it :D. I remember watching that Moby Dick trailer for first time, such a mysterious and mind-blowing trailer but I knew it had to be MGSV XD.

Help me decide what to do :(… Should I play Witcher 3 and try finish it before TPP, been having little break. Or start replaying all MGS games ;D?

I’ll probably do the same! Watch the trailers, then my epic tale of revenge begins. I think I also have never been so excited of something before in my life than TPP. Hard to put my feelings into words, but just being a long time fan since 1998 and now when get to play Kojima’s last MGS… it is just spectacular thing to experience.

By the way a stupid question maybe if anyone know, hopefully it make sense. But as I have pre-ordered PS4 TPP physical editions, when Sep 1 comes I have to wait for that damn delivery dude to bring it to me. So obviously I want to start playing TPP as soon as possible, which might be the digital version from PSN.

So if I pre-order TPP from PSN now, play it Sep1 morning digitally for some hours, then get my Collector’s Edition later. Pop in the disc, will I be able to continue from the save point from my Digital version of TPP? Or will I have to start all over the game with my CE. It’s a stupid question, but not sure have I owned a game both digitally and physically on PS4.
P.S. this has maybe been answered a zillion times but then I’ve forgotten. 😀

      • War Games Via Live Bullets

You should finish The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt because once September 1st arrives, we all know there’s only going to be one game we’ll all be playing, only one game that matters. So, this will be you’re only chance to finish the Witcher 3.

As far as your question, you should be able to start from your save point. I see no reason why you’d have to start all over.

        • Gatsu

Hmm thanks for answer :). True only one game then for a long time XD.

Yeeeeeah it was a silly question lol. It’s the same game anyway, and the save files get stored too.

      • Yeah if you have a digital or physical company your save is the same. Also, get Rocket League!

        • Gatsu

Thanks <3. Lol yeah bro :D, I will download it just finishing some quests first in Witcher 3 :).

      • Fox

You have to delete the digital game data in order to install the physical disc game data, but the save will be the same no need to restart. Im also tempted to buy the digital to play it as soon it releases but 60 more bucks…. ugh

        • Gatsu

Okey good to know, I think I will buy it…although wouldn’t want to because already got 2 physicals pre-order lol XD … But I dont think I can wait knowing others play it already and if my CE will be delayed somehow!!! O_O

          • Fox

I missed the CE because I knew i wouldn’t get it on launch date and im not waiting a day or two to play this game, anyways I really hope my local gamestop do a midnight release which I doubt and I don’t want to pay 60$ to play the game a few hours earlier…

      • Mauricio Acosta

I know what you mean! I will be honest, when I first saw the Moby Dick studios trailer, I said to myself “Eh nothing special”. Next thing you know IGN and other media outlets are asking if this is metal gear. I was like ugh no no way it is?! Ohh wait oh my! It is! It was awesome seeing Kojima come out with the mask!

Well what I recommend is wait to play the Witcher 3. It is such an awesome game that you’d hate to have to skip parts or rush it because The Phantom Pain is just around the corner. Replay the other games and squeeze as much story as you can!

The funny part is that after playing every Metal Gear, I feel like if the Metal Gear Story ended there it would be alright.

    • Andrea Feletti

      I hear you 🙂

    • I’m the same. Never been so amped to play a game before. Just read the reddit spoiler everyone has talked about and…. I find it a bit farfetched. It makes sense but I don’t think it’s what happens… It’s the final connection with BBs story between 3 and MG. it has to be and only be BB HIMSELF. No f*** around, just raw anger. I won’t go into it but for those hardcore fans that have read it got to agree. You can’t just go messing around with a crazy story like that.

      • And anyway everyone has said the opening scene is the hospital scene so the reddit post is garbage.

  • FOX VS XOF

    haha…

    • MeLand127

      What’s up?

  • Alex

He busted out the “Nanomachines, son” on his candy ass lol.

  • DavidHSnake
  • PrinceHeir
