Guillermo del Toro: Kojima and I are still working on doing something together

As fans are still mourning over the cancellation of Silent Hills, the collaboration project between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, in an interview with IGN del Toro says there are still plans for a new project.

I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills].

Del Toro also revealed some more about the ideas they had for Silent Hills. Though the project was still in a very early phase, what they were thinking of doing sounds very promising.

We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen. We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.

Let’s hope something will come of this collaboration eventually, even if it’s after Kojima’s supposed departure from Konami.

It’s happening. Last time Hideo Kojima/Shinkawa visited del Toro, they had some agreements on Pacific Ocean PR for Japan and… ofc P.T. / Silent Hills.

These photos from the last time.

    • Gatsu

Good times and oooh darn that artwork is cool =).

  • Steven Michael Brown

Pan’s laberynth is my favorite del toro

    • SNKtheStampede

I agree with you, that’s a masterpiece, so immersive and visionary. Loved it.

    • Ol’ Jack Burton

Cronos for me. Still one of my absolute favourite vampire movies!

    • Gatsu

I love that Pan’s Labyrinth too and Pacific Rim is one of my favorites by Del Toro! It look so beautiful and got cool fights, reminds me of all those Japanese mecha animes. And another awesome thing about it, was the main actor Charlie Hunnam aka Jax Teller (Sons of Anarchy ;D ) + Ron Perlman! Man and machine become one.

So excited to see Pacific Rim 2, was it next year or 2017 :).

      • angeliquedevive

All those big mechas, Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman. Ah<3 Reminded me of Neon Genesis Evangelion when I watched movie first time haha.

Is there gonna be PR2?! Hell yeah! More big mechas!

        • Gatsu

Yeah greatly reminds of Evangelion :D, which is awesome btw ;). Pacific Rim 2 release in 2017, so not any time soon :P.

Kiva etten oo ainoo joka kattonu Evangelionii XD.

          • angeliquedevive

Et oo ainut haha. Katoin sitä joskus ku tuli SUBtvltä vuonna kivikausi. Itseasias kyllä taisin kattoo end of evangelionin täs viime vuonna… vähä paree lopetus.

    • Le Guy who drowned quiet

I knew it because of the Guinness world record book and then many of my friends and my cousin loved pacific rim and said it was badass.

    • Le Guy who drowned quiet

(Cont) they don’t know nothing about pans labyrinth

    • Le Guy who drowned quiet

I did watch both hellboys though

    Off topic,

How do you guys think the end-game is gonna be?, I think that first of all, BB’s horn is gonna fall off, but do you guys think that BB still “working” after the story ends will be part of the story or will it be something like the witcher’s end-game (no spoilers), in which after the story was over they put you back in the world as if it wasn’t over yet, or do you guys think we will have something more like red dead redemption.

Also, not much time left, I can’t believe how many of you guys have been waiting for years and will soon be rewarded, only 36 more days!!!

    • gRammarnazi

The game will end with Solid infiltrating Outer Heaven, after Big Boss destroys Mother Base. That would be awesome.

    • Kawaii Monster

I know right thankfully my store is doing a midnight release woop woop

    • Gatsu

I have thought of so many ways the ending times of TPP are gonna be like, but don’t remember most of them anymore.

      1. The story skip years ahead in time from 1984, to Outer Heaven Uprising 1995 and we briefly hear Solid Snake responding to Big Boss. As he approaches the great walls of the fortress.

      2. The fallout with Kaz, Ocelot and Diamond Dogs will happen in a bloody way. Quiet and Diamond Dog dies, this make BB (and me) rage ’cause of feels for them both :3 … Big Boss really becomes a madman in the game thanks to many things. The horn, Zero,
SF, Psycho Mantis and deep desire for revenge, that change his personality so he do
this. Towards the end we once again witness the fall of our beloved Mother Base, but this time because Big Boss destroys it. Leaves to create the Outer Heaven from Metal Gear 1 to Africa. Gets on his chopper and rides into the sunset.

Can’t honestly know what Kojima has come up with, the man is a genius >_<.

      About the horn:
      1. It stays in his head and is removed later between TPP and MG.
      2. It comes off when the end is nearing, but the thing I'm worried about what happens to Big Boss then :O!? I mean he will be left with a huge hole in his skull omg, gonna die of blood loss.
      3. If it pushes out some amount in the game, Big Boss decides to try pull it off himself after he can't take it anymore and wants to get rid of the damn thing. Will be painful but he don't care.

I believe TPP will just end after story is over, not being able to continue playing. But we'll just gotta wait and see, maybe I'm wrong :).

36 days is NOTHING bro compared to the wait from late 2012, just gotta keep myself busy with something so time flies :). It's hard to believe TPP is so close T_T…and when 10 days left only I'm gonna explode from hype.

      • ShalashaskaWasHerSon

Their was a leaked image of a young Snake in a recent dev interview. It’s
possible the story line will skip ahead a few years to a young Solid Snake. But there is also
rumors that Venom Snake(Big boss) will have flashbacks. A flashback about an early
        mission with The Boss.

        • Gatsu

I know the image, if we’re thinking of the same thing but not sure is it necessary Solid. Some say it was just GZ BB model without facial hair. Yea flashbacks would be awesome :).

          • ShalashaskaWasHerSon

That image of Snake looks too young. Big Boss is pushing 50. But I hope we get to see and play flashback missions. I would love to play a sneaking mission with The Boss.

          • ShalashaskaWasHerSon

I also hope the multiplayer allows us to play as characters from MGS3, Portable Ops and Peace Walker. I would love to play as The Fear, The End or The Boss.

      • Ishmael

Gatsu, how can he die when we already know future events?
I think everybody should just stay cool, the game is already here, we will have the time to find out what is gonna happen. Thinking about what it could be like is a waste of time when you will attemp to finish the game anyway and can’t change what happens at all. so just… relax.

        • Gatsu

Maybe I chose the wrong word lol, didnt mean he die but just worried what happen that’s all O_O. It’s impossible to relax when TPP is so close ;O !

      • akumetsu

since it was published the trailer and the phantom pain was speculation that he had any relationship with MGS have waited to arrive to my hands
and before from VGA kojima show some captures from proyect Ogre and i looked amazing

      • akumetsu

looks at that publication since february 25, 2012 , and see estefani jooester ready to motion capture in bikini XD so long time ago

      • akumetsu

and here is stephani jooster ready to the capture motion of quiet , before out of trailer of the phantom pain in VGA , the proyect ogre see in this publication mention that only kojima show a soldier in bikini and this is the link to read

        • akumetsu

XD sorry , post the same thing twice because I thought he had not published the first

      • Hina

I recall an article way back when ground zeroes wasn’t out yet.. how kojima was saying how it was hard to keep the continuity of a story when you’re writing a story that you already know what happens in the future – as true as it may be, a lot of stories of games, tv shows, movies, have proven it can be done but also; it can be retconned and still be amazing! I think this article of recent summer remakes/reboots/revisions blockbusters says it well!
I like to think it follows the path of mad max, like how the main character was re-casted (at least for NA’s release) and that it will reference the older games sparingly!

      • angeliquedevive

“Quiet and DD dies” Then I will do some rambo stuff in game and in real life.

        • ShalashaskaWasHerSon

Put on Quiet’s tights and put DD’s dog collar around your neck as mementos. Just like John J. himself.

“To survive a war you gotta become war”

    • MichaelPayneV

By that you mean that we will get to play afetr we finish the game, as Liquid Snake at Foxhound?

  • Ol’ Jack Burton

Now I really just hope they bring Ron Perlman on board.

    After all, war never changes!

    • Tom Brearley-Smith

I hope so to. Perlman really sold as Hellboy (also directed by del Toro).
In response to your last point…

      • I love how snake’s eyebrow goes over his bandana.

        • FoxTamerMGO

What? the bandana is a part of snake’s head.. i thought everyone knew that.

      • Ol’ Jack Burton

I’m still hoping we’ll get a third Hellboy movie at some stage, since GdT and Perlman have both been open about wanting to do it for years. Supposedly if Pacific Rim’s sequel does well enough, Legendary will consider funding it, so fingers crossed!

        • MichaelPayneV

Now imagine Hideo writing Hellboy 3!

    • stocchinet .

      But was has changed…

  • Gatsu

I love these bros, Koji and Toro <333! I am still hoping they do some fascinating game experience similar to Silent Hills ;D, although Del Toro said after SH got crushed that he will never be involved in games again :(… But we'll see if he really meant it.

About Kojima-san possibly starting movie directing with Del Toro, well Kojima kind of has been doing movies already with MGS. The way he does the games is so cool.

Whatever they will do, will surely be AMAZING. I can't wait to see what their next project is and for them to actually be able to finish it this time!

The memories and feels … *sniff* …goddamit

    • MichaelPayneV

I would love if they will do a Movie together as well, or a TV Show, along side the instant greatest Video game of all time that we will get from them, of course.

    • MichaelPayneV

I have a feeling that Del Toro influenced TPP a lot as well.

  • JoJo

I love how they completely circumvented Konami.
They didn’t need you Konami, and after MGSV, we won’t either.

    • MichaelPayneV

I would need them for MGSV either, i will only buy buy TPP physically, and only when is like 20/30$ at Max, and that that point i would have already finished it.

I’ll hurt them where it hurts, in their pockets. Who is with me?

      • based skengman

Lol no, enjoy waiting on a brilliant game just because you don’t like the publisher, cheapskate

        • MichaelPayneV

          Who said i’ll wait?

          • based skengman

Well, if you’re pirating then you’re a bigger dick

          • MichaelPayneV

I brought GZ, i won it, plus, i didn’t say that i will pirate it.

          • based skengman

well then I don’t get you saying you’re going to boycott a game you’re getting free, because you’re still able to play it, it’s no loss on your end at all you’re entitled to it, in fact you’re just doing the opposite buying a game you got given, hell if I was getting the game for free I would probably buy on physical a few months later, if people followed you they would miss out on the game for a few months, which is the game I have been waiting for years, and you’re saying this on a fan site where majority of people would probably hold the same opinion, you can’t really tell people they should be boycotting it

          • MichaelPayneV

As a previously said, i have mixed emotions, at the same time i want TPP to fail financially, but i also want as many people as possible to experience Hideo’s “Magnum Opus”

I’m just confused, i love Hideo’s Games, but i also won’t let Konami take advantage of me being a Fan, and give them 60$ after “firing” Hideo, no, i will stand for what is right, and ignore my selfish needs.

          • based skengman

It’s not just Hideo Kojima, it’s the whole team that made that game that need to get paid, you’re going to play a video game you love, and for that enjoyment a lot of people had to work on that

Also ‘the fact that no matter what you think of Konami, Konami funded this game and Kojima has trolled fans a lot over the years a lot over the years, even with the head transplant theory as a base example, or MGS2 which admittedly I loved however as it was my first I can see it as a huge insult to people who waited since completing MGS1, and then to only let you retain control of Solid once again as a dying old man. That’s a troll right there
Not to mention every game being his ‘last’

The fact that Kojima is so outspoken about everything on the Internet, and hasn’t commented on the issue speaks VOLUMES in itself here.

          • MichaelPayneV

They have already been paid, no matter how much TPP, they won’t get more money, that also happened with past MGS Games, they are paid for the work, not depending on sales.

And like i said, i have Mixed emotions, so please.

    • Punished “Venom” Snake

Don’t lie, we will need them to keep MGO3 alive as long as possible.

  • MichaelPayneV

Hmmm, given how Del Toro likes “Robots, this may be our “Zone of Enders” spiritual successor.

    • Frederick Guese

Area of the People who are far away, perhaps?

  • GUN®

I was hoping Kojima would make his own studio and team up with Del Toro once again, now my only concern is if this will be some kinda kickstarted thing and what engine will be used, I love FOX engine but I’m guessing that has to stay at Konami.

    • MichaelPayneV

Yeah, again, Gameplay or Graphics is now what Hideo Kojima was about, but Story, and he is a goddamn great Storyteller.

      • GUN®

I respectfully disagree, both gameplay and graphics have always matched the great storytelling for me.

        • MichaelPayneV

Well, Gameplay or Graphics is not why i started playing Metal Gear in the first place, but the Premise and the Plot, it reminded me or Classic James Bond meats X-Men supernatural sh*t.

I guess that makes me a Hideo Kojima Fan, and not Metal Gear, i guess this is the difference between us.

          • ddmaster

Never thought of it that way, I concur, Kojima is what makes Metal Gear so great. Not Metal Gear itself. If Metal Gear was good by itself than Konami would make amazing MG games without Kojima-san in the future….don’t see that happening.

      • ShalashaskaWasHerSon

Metal Gear has always pushed the hardware visually. MGS2 was stunning when it came out. No other game could touch it. MGS3 and MGS4 were very impressive too.

  • Maik O’Bannon

  • Venom_Sina

Maybe they are working together to bring back inSANE.You remember inSANE,right? The trilogy that was supposed to be developed by Volition and published by THQ(R.I.P.).After cancellation of the project, the rights of inSANE were given to Guillermo del Toro.Maybe they want to revive that.

  • Daburcor

I’m totally on board. I hope they continue along the horror route and give everyone a heart attack!

  • Edward Wokhands

I’m so happy to hear this!

  • DavidHSnake

i really hope kojima can make a new snatcher game someday.

    • korruption

      Snatcher Hills. XD

      • Shalashaska

        Silent Snatcher?

  • Major Ocelot

I hope they will give us a horror game.

  • SholidOnline

Woot woot! Hopefully there’s no secret Konami producing behind this…
