Man just as MGS became such a hit(mainstream status) you just had to end it at its peak.

All those years of making a new engine, team, studios etx.

I really have to wonder what happens next for the franchise.

Congrats to Kojima and Kojima Productions for making an excellent game despite some changes i may not agree.

One things for sure. Its definitely the best gameplay in the franchise and set the bar high for stealth games ^^

Glad the game is selling well. Keep the MGSV hype alive and well.

  • VenomSnake123

Nice job! The Phantom Pain deserved this. Also pretty cool to see it’s above FIFA which also sells like crazy.

    • NCell

      It’s the US though

MGSV succeeded in sale cuz (also of course the quality) of marketing, MGSV marketing was way better than previous Metal gears and made it more famous for non-mgs fans people. if that marketing applied on the previous titles, they would sell as well as MGSV.

with peace day aproaching. we must ask our selves. what is peace?
how we can achieve it? is it our purpose or a mean to an end.?
we have to take responsibillity and start a new era for mankind. without war. without using peace , the economy , the population to achieve our goals. like the boss said.. a world without borders everyone treated as equal. Peace can be achieved. we must all unite to make it happen.
    Say…. Peace

    • Ishmael

      peace is an utopia.

    • Europe opened its borders and look what is happening, borders will exist as long as the individual, even yet hive minds of people will struggle against each other, the only way to archieve true peace is creating a global hive mind or the skynet solution and I don’t know which one is worse

      • Once the brainchip drops no one will have to worry about knowing anything anymore.

  • kirtanloorii

Lol. Damn sports games. I was expecting to hear TPP was #1, but oh well.

  • Venom_Sina

    “What a mess I made,when I pre-ordered this”,LOL.
    Finally,after waiting around +1/5 months,it’s here.and it’s beautiful.
Boss,do you want me to take some pictures from the console for a “MGI Exclusive Unboxing/Closeup”?(With a better camera of course, lol)

  • NakedSnake85

Just a quick question… is there a new FOB event currently running?

  • Gatsu

I never thought Madden would get in such top spot, what the hell. Well it seems sport games always sell a lot, even when they are 99% the same stuff each year lol.

    • Eugene Voldo

Actually what is really amazing is that Madden 16 was released on 25 august. So september is a second month for Madden 16. And still the game outsold MGSV. This got me thinking that Konami were right. MGS franchise is not growing.

      • Games like Madden and NBA have a much broader mainstream appeal than something like MGS. You can’t expect this game to sell the same, and Konami probably wasn’t counting on that. Not if they have realistic expectations at least.

        • PsychoMantis18

          Do they though?
Konami is the bizarro gaming company; anything they shouldn’t do, they do.

          • “Do they though?” Yea they do…

          • PsychoMantis18

            Nah, they don’t.

      • Sports games have 2 to 3 times more of a userbase… not that hard to understand the sale figures.

  • Aleezy

Am I the only one who still watches the trailers and wonder what could’ve been?

    • NakedSnake85

      it s not over…not yet…

      • Aleezy

The world that Kojima envisioned will finally become a reality… (We hope)

    • FMercenary

      SPOILER: Negativity Ahead

I don’t think I’ve re-watched the trailers since the game released but I do think about them over in my head and wonder how the story could have been more emotionally driven and as impacting as the trailers and the unfortunate twist-ending. Sometimes I wonder if it was Kojima’s intention to make a lackluster story only for that twist-ending? I mean, the prologue was pretty good but then the rest of the story fluctuated between OK and average with some good moments in the mix. And some of the characters could have been better portrayed like: Ocelot could’ve been as charismatic as he was in the past games, Eli could have had more to say about his situation other than “Waah, I’m not like you!”, Skull Face should’ve had more screen-time and been as malevolent and sadistic as he was in Ground Zeroes although he was still cool, and Big Boss, well his absence in having any input in the themes of the game is my biggest gripe.

Big Boss has the legacy of ‘Snake Eater’, ‘Peace Walker’, and ‘Ground Zeroes’ under his belt and they felt it necessary to bust out some history diminishing, mickey mouse bullshit concept of “legends” to change all that just for that twist-ending?! It’s past 2010, I thought they would have been able to tell a proper story without relying on a major retcon, especially for Big Boss’ story which was pretty straightforward up until this point. But I guess everything is cool and all because, you know, “the whole world wants you dead” and “phantom pain”. Plus, did the Ground Zeroes incident and the coma not affect Big Boss at all, mentally or physically?

Nothing against people that liked the story or any animosity towards the writers of the story but I can’t stop thinking critically about MGSV’s story and i needed to get something out of my system.

      • Aleezy

I agree. I just keep thinking about KojiPro disbanding. Maybe some of the things you said was part of the original plan but they had to shorten it or come up with a different story. The money stopped coming in so less lines for the voice actors etc.

  • VenomSnake421

I may be imagining too much, but imagine if Kojima stayed at Konami, not for another MGS, but for MGSV: Director’s Cut.

    • Aleezy

Lol that’s a good thought. The game is episodic like a tv show.

  • ThreeMadFrogs

    Sports games shouldn’t count.

  • it makes sense, still a game rated M, with a convoluted story (percieved by the general public) from a series that’s very different from traditional FPS’s, also is a 5th entry after last year’s more polished demo is pretty impressive the game got in 3rd place, remember the other 2 games have a bigger audience, from casual sports fans and kids (those games are rated E) giving those sport games a huge market share, still impressive that enough people cared about MGS, also add the untold numbers of steam games sold and digital Xlive/psn, again MGS is a legendary series but not a cultural blood-lust (WHHOOO!?!?!) juggernaut like CoD or GTA

  • hunner

This pretty much confirms that MGS V was the best selling game worldwide. NBA 2k and Madden don’t sell outside of the usa

  • PhantomSnake

Did anyone read the news report that Kojima is supposedly taking a company mandatory extended vacation? I think it may be a fan theory but Konami has been known lately to be very screwy and sneaky more than a stealth suit and confuse the living hell out of us.

  • Önce Vatan

    go to hell kojimaa

  • FoxTamerMGO

Kojima got his ass kicked from konami, just like he ignored David Hayter.. Karma is a bitch

    • baaanedddd

No, it got outsold by 2 wildly popular sports series. This happens every year. Metal Gear is at best niche in terms of popularity while mllions of people follow those sports leagues all over the world. This just proves the title is Konami’s best selling one above all and they curl up and die making slot machines or pay-to-play mobile Iphone card games that are only link to their previous franchises is by name only. Kojima hates Metal Gear anyway but for whatever reason its the only thing people will buy. Its like bands and their greatest hits. They only care about the hit songs. Kojima won’t sell crud with a revamped Snatcher or Policenauts. Nobody’s outside of hardcore niche fans know these series.

  • Gray Lion

Well, that’s expected. Still, it sold pretty well. I am proud of Kojima Productions, they´ve put everything into doing TPP, they deserve it. I also think I am finally coming to terms with the “Truth” ending. Still want badly that Kingdom of the Flies mission, tho.

Offtopic: Does anyone else hear Skullface’s dramatically yelling “WHOOOOOOO!?” in their head every single time the words “lust” or “revenge” pop up in conversation or text? No? Just me? Alright, then.

    • Mr.Pony

When the article about the soundtrack vocal tracks came out I automatically thought and read “Vocal track parasites”

      • Gray Lion

I think they named it “vocal tracks” exactly to remind those who played the game of the vocal cord parasites… They´re fucking with our minds with wordplay… Words can kill, after all XD
