Kojima: my role in this world is to keep on making big games for as long as I can

Speaking to Simon Parker of the New Yorker, Kojima talked about his new Kojima Productions studio and his plans for the future.

Kojima’s new studio currently only has four staff members: Kojima himself, Shinkawa, Imaizumi, and Terashima. There’s no office yet. Despite having to start anew, Kojima still remains passionate.

“Every time I create a game, I think it’s going to be the last time. In much the same way that a mother isn’t thinking about her next pregnancy during childbirth, I can’t think of the next game till the one I’m working on is out.”

Hideo-Kojima-December-2015

Recently Konami seems have shifted its focus towards cheaper mobile games as opposed to high budget titles, and Kojima’s idea of game development likely did not fit with the company’s new strategy (Kojima is contractually prohibited from talking about the split).

“If you’re only focussed on the profits immediately in front of you, the times will leave you behind. It becomes impossible to catch up again.”

Being independent will make taking risks easier for Kojima, since he does not have to invest a lot of time getting everything approved.

“When working in big companies, especially Japanese companies, every little thing has to be approved beforehand, and you need paperwork to do anything. Now that I’m independent, I can do what I want with much more speed. I don’t need to invest time in unnecessary presentations. I shoulder the risk.”

It also makes it easier for him to say what he wants to say.

“When I was in a company, my personal statements could be taken as the over-all direction of the company. As such, I couldn’t say just anything.”

After he left Konami, Kojima had plans to take a trip to a deserted island for a year, but a certain ‘Hollywood friend’ advised against it, saying he had to keep up the pace.

“Hearing that affirmed to me that my role in this world is to keep on making big games for as long as I can. That is the mission I’ve been given in life.”

I can imagine when Kojima was doing a powerpoint presentation on the base building and development mechanics for TPP to the Konami board of directors, they were probably thinking “oh great potential in reaping more profits from consumers, if we add microtransactions to it …. 😛 “.

    Jokes! maybe … haha

Thank you Mr. Kojima! And as always, fuck konami! 🙂

Hm I kind of want him to make a movie but either is great. A movie could open up much more to him in my opinion.

Since Hideo is the best fan of his own games, we are pretty safe. He is always the best at putting himself in our shoes. A true gamer, not another simple director…
I hope he’ll find fast solutions for the gameplay. If he goes with a commercial engine, he’ll have to give them a nice cut (could be ok though).
If he goes more from scratch, it may take a substantial time depending the chosen gameplay.
His situation is not optimal / difficult but must be stimulating to be free of all this bullshit.
    As a little side note, F.ck, F.ck Konami… Always…

    • His situation right now is pretty crappy for an independent game developer. He has only 3 ppl on board. From the last interviw he does not sound like he is going nuts with game development, but he wants a smaller team with the same quality of the games.

      OK.

But at the same time he does not even have offices yet… Nothing started.

I think SCE should inject some cash, beside providing tools. He may easily find investors with such a foot-print in this industry. I am sure he’ll be on tracks soon, if not already.

        • SCE already injected some cash… But cash in his situation is not enough.
He need’s technology, experienced game developers, testers, hardware (PC’s, software, musical instruments/hardware, Motion capture studio renting/it’s own Mo-cap studio).

Not sure that we will see a gameplay trailer in 2016 at all. Maybe a small teaser.

I am indy myself and still authorized third party PlayStation developer (PS3 only for now) since 2011 through my own company, founded in 2009, I also contributed through scedev in debugging parts of SCEE PhyreEngine. I was obliged to return working as an employee in order to keep my company open. It is still very hard.

  • ADAMJENSEN13

Game that Hideo Kojima is making now probably doesnt even exist but I know already this will be one of the best game ever. MGSV is Fantastic in every way!
From the begining to the end. MGSV have the best intro-opening of all games(I didnt played MGS1-4 so maybe they have better) but MGSV intro is playable which is Mega cool! The best boss battles(Maybe only Zelda have better. Zelda is one of my favorite games too). Battle with Quiet is the best! and Man on fire. Characters. SkullFace is the best character of 2014 and 2015 for sure. Soundtrack. Sins of the father is the best song of 2015. again stealth. The best stealth game of all time! Its the best!

    • Gatsu

Any game Kojima make will be epic ;).

MGSV, Mass Effect 2 and Silent Hill 3 have some of the best openings in games imo.

      • OcelotSilver

I would say that Last of Us also had a fantastic opening scene, and is up there with MGSV prologue as my favorite game opening of this decade.

        • Gatsu

Definitely :), TLOU opening scene is indeed spectacular.

      • Spectralbuttplug

I did not like silent hill 3

        • Gatsu

Np it’s not for everyone and many might disagree :), even with the beginning. But I loved it how it puts you right in the middle of a messed up nightmare, amazing way to start a horror game imo ;D. Overall my favorite is SH2 but SH3 is fantastic also, the games still give me the creeps.

          • Spectralbuttplug

Sh2 is also my favorite.I did not, like the story of 3.Konami sucked at publishing at ports. They couldn’t even choose a good developer to port sh2 and 3.I never liked the story of 3.Still is creepy.

          • Gatsu

I wonder if I can find them for PC somewhere, that would be great.

          • Spectralbuttplug

            Sh2 IS ON PC APPARENTLY

    • Jav

      Lol.
The intro was freaking boring. I was expecting something better. Boss fights? Lol.

      • Gatsu

I can’t understand how some thought it was boring. I was looking forward to it for 3 years ;D. I was mindblown all the time and couldn’t believe I was finally playing the hospital scene lol. But that’s just me, I guess we all wanted for different things.

        • Jav

I was thinking in playing it a lot of times. But it was my first disappointment. It has so many cuts and the volgin moments arent good. And they remove the gz music! For me, it was the first thing bad executed in the game. The first of many. I have played more than 100 hours in ground zeroes but in tpp I just dont want to repeat missions.

      • Spectralbuttplug

The same people over and over again. What happened to MGI from 2014

      • ADAMJENSEN13

Its Your opinion. You dont have to like it and I understand that.
But I think that intro is the best of all games. Going throught the hospital, hiding and fighting with Man on Fire on horse was Mega amazing and cool for me. Boss fights are the best too. Battle wiht Quiet is Perfect!

    THIS TEASER TRAILER IS EEEPPPPPPPPPPPIIIICCCC

    • IStealthierI

The teaser is pretty awesome. 2016 seems like another great year for gaming. My top 10 most anticipated (from least to greatest) list consist of 10) For Honor, 9) Tom Clancy’s The Division, 8) Nioh, 7) Mafia III, 6) Mass Effect: Andromeda. Of course, with new info, things are always subject to change. But for now, the rest of the list are going to capture the very reasons why I enjoy video games.

      5. Final Fantasy XV
      4. Batman: A Telltale Games Series
      3. Hitman (2016)
      2. Horizon Zero Dawn
      1. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

And these experiences will, hopefully, hold me until these untitled games releases.
-New installment to the Splinter Cell series
      -“New Metal Gear” by Konami
-The sequel (or prequel/whatever they decide to go with) to The Last of Us by NaughtyDog
-Kojima Productions’ future title by Kojima Productions.

    • That’s fine. They are a good company. he should be happy there, sad thing that he is not with Kojima.
Now, I’m not confident in KojiPro at all. I don’t know where they will seek new staff for the team. Especially when Kojima have super-high standards for game development.

      • Full Options

Yes, Pac-Man fathers should do for Julien. You are right, I am sad too, I would have preferred seeing him at Koji-Pro.
I am preoccupied but not too worry for them. As you said before they already have or will receive soon budget support from SCEI. Hideo will make this challenge. What’s annoying is that they have to make really difficult choices on many questions which will take some time. But he has many friends in the industry that can properly help / advise him in taking the best decisions faster. In all case he’ll take his time and will revise the game as much as necessary to make sure he give us what even hard-core gamers expect from him, without Konami stupid pressure.
A little longer, but 100% Kojima this time. Like he said, with decisions and ideas at a less global level in the company, so finally, ideas that will be listened to and applied. 😀

Looking forward to see he’s next very instructive talks in gaming confs.
The guy is very straight forward and very pragmatic. He looks very comfortable in advising either very hard-core coding or middle-ware integration strategies.
Maybe a bit less low level coder than people like Mike Acton for instance, but still very mastering his subject.

  • Venom_Sina

    Hello again guys.Wassup?
Let’s talk about Venom Snake today and why he doesn’t talk much.I thought about this a lot but still I can’t understand why Kojima did this.Let’s share our thoughts here so we may reach an agreement.

Back in 2013,in Konami’s pre-E3 show,Kojima said:”I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance, expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice rather than words.”In 2015 he said:”Snake doesn’t talk much in this game and the characters around him will present the story.”I knew how this works.Back in 2003 I saw a movie called Boutique. The main character doesn’t talk much in the movie and it makes sense. There are some scenes that He talks a lot,but some scenes is the opposite,he says nothing. His boss is a junkie asshole and when he’s around, the main character tells almost nothing (and it makes sense).

Okay let’s talk about V.I thought it’s a cool concept that Snake doesn’t talk much and he will “express his feelings through facial movements”,but again game dissapointed me.Here’s the reason:

Remember the scenes that Snake SHOULD talk but he doesn’t.A few examples:
1)When Skull Face held him upside down.
2)The whole Quiet scene, starting with the fight to the MB cutscene.
3)When chopper crashes and we have to fight Skulls (feat.Code Talker, lol).Miller is killing himself on the other side to make contact with V,and what’s V’s response?Silence.
4)The jeepride, the most awkward moment in the history of gaming, from the beginning to the SF chopping scene. He doesn’t talk for 30-40 minutes, when some important matters discussed.
5)The final moments of the game, the BB cassette tape/Outer Heaven cutscene.

These are just some examples of a bad use of silence, when the main character NEEDS to talk, but he doesn’t.The funny thing is there’s no “facial expressions” involved, too,so V HAS TO talk but he doesn’t.The only place that his silence actually works is Mission 43.It begins with a bad and out of place silence between V and Kaz,but the rest is okay and works pretty well.

The main character doesn’t talk much and let’s be honest:That “facial capture” thing is not a big deal, too (or at least won’t work in this game, because of bad direction and usage). This brings us to another question:Why they changed the voice actor? Why bring a top class actor to the game, when he doesn’t talk much?Do you think David Hayter can’t pull off a mute Snake?I mean,You have Kiefer Sutherland.Let him talk a lot, man, lol.

The only reason that came to my mind is this:Kojima wanted to create this character blank and it’s up to us players to fill in the blanks (but I personally think it’s bullshit, lol).Again, this is questionable. There are way better ways to make and raise a blank character. They could’ve used a Mass Effect/The Walking Dead dialogue system. That way everyone can make their Snake.V is actually us,so this way our versions of V would’ve been different than each other.

Another thing:V is a Mental copy of BigBoss.I remember BB to be a very talkative person. So why V is mute like this?”Who knows? Not me.”

These are just my thoughts. It could be right or wrong. Please share yours, too,if you have the time. Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • FoxTamerMGO

      I’m with you 100%

      • Venom_Sina

Thanks for your reply.I thought of this and I hit dead end in every way, lol.

      • Spectralbuttplug

        Aw not you.Oops I’m sorry

    • Lewis

I like to think, that Venom is still confused with 2 lives in his head. Not a brilliant explanation, but it makes me not roll my eyes at almost all of his scenes. His face is also so confused all of the time. He looks more like a lost kitten, than a badass hero or even his phantom.

      • Venom_Sina

Yeah, that’s one of many confusing things about V.It seems that he still has his past personality on him,but he’s more medic than BigBoss. He thinks he’s BB,but he acts like medic.Scenes like Huey’s exile is one of the examples. He’s too nice and I don’t see any BB in him.Your reason is good, but again not enough for V being so silent. He maybe confused but why he doesn’t say a single word when Miller tries to contact him (3).
Remember the final scenes of MGS4?Where BB talks and SS listens? That silence works perfectly, but here…
        Thanks for your reply.

        • Lewis

Didn’t try to explain everything with that theory, just something for myself to not facepalm every second. Thatnks to you. 🙂

        • OcelotSilver

I completely agree! I mean a guy who just woke up from a 9 year coma and learned about his body and the missing arm does not go into philosophical dialogues about what happen to the nurse……. That’s totally unrealistic….. >.>

          • Venom_Sina

There’s no need for “philosophical dialogues”.It’s easy as saying:”Hey,look behind you.Someone is trying to kill you”.Is this too much?

          • OcelotSilver

So basically you DO want him to repeat something that the audience already knows?

    • Full Options

Hi Sina, I am not a Venom expert and maybe mistaken, but Venom gave me an impression of a soldier like John Rambo. Rambo almost never speaks and have quite passive expression. Like a cold war machine.. I am wondering if Hideo did not try to setup Snake a bit like him. Badass soldiers don’t speak much because they are mentally traumatised by war.
For instance with Rambo, the more he keep silent, the more it suggests that he his traumatised, so the more it makes him inderectly badass, because it hints at how much time and experience he had on the battle-field.
Back to Venom, ok it does not fit with a medic personality but I suppose Hideo finally decided this to make him look more like a true soldier, rather than a more social fellow..
Who knows… This is how I felt it, I am perhaps wrong.

      • Venom_Sina

Hi Kaveh. That’s what I’m talking about.Sharing our way of thinking to each other and that’s cool.
About Rambo:Yeah,he is silent most of the time, but at least he talks when needed.Venom is silent in some scenes that he SHOULD talk and that’s a little annoying imo.
        Thanks for your reply

        • Full Options

With all the bad things that impacted the overall development of the game, we can not be sure what was really planned anymore.
If the story is missing some part and had to be transformed slightly to be faster published, then we can also imagine that they simply cut some Snake’s answers because they were too much dealing with removed parts of the game.
It was probably faster / easier to remove completely some samples, rather than do some extra processing on them.
Maybe that was one of the reasons…

        • Spectralbuttplug

Same for mad max. That didn’t ruin the movie though.Still best movie of 2015.So stop bashing the game for the same suit over and over again.

        • OcelotSilver

Oh you mean like how Solid Snake repeated dialogues that served no point and ultimately kills the pacing? Sorry but more dialogues doesn’t make it better in any way.

It feels like you just want the character to come out and say what he is feeling like how the previous games did rather than actually seeing his facial expressions.

          • Venom_Sina

I’m not expecting to hear everything V has in his head. For Miller’s scene (number 3 in my comment),can’t he just say that we’re alive or roger that.Miller is killing himself on the other side and tries to contact V.What’s the most stupid/awkward response?
1)Hey,we’re alive.Send a chopper to pick us up.
2)Saying nothing, giving no facial expressions and looking at the chopper like a stupid guy?

    • Jav

The only thing I feel with the mute snake is like Im playing an indie cheap game.

    • Robin030

      exactly my thoughts m8…
i think they should have taken the gameplay and not make a metal gear game from it cuz for mgs ppl have expectations for the story that have to be met. with some new IP and decent story everybody would just go crazy over the gameplay.

      • Venom_Sina

Exactly.Metal Gear series are known for its complex and multi-layered story, but they decided to go for gameplay for this one.IMO I think they did a mistake.Creators at Capcom did the same mistake with RE franchise, they turned it to a TPS.Now every single RE fan is pissed off about this franchise. They should’ve created RE5 with another name.
The situation is almost the same with MG franchise. They created a good gameplay with a poor story. It’s more like an Assassin’s Creed/Far Cry game.Fine, you want to try new ideas, why MGSV should be your playground? Why not another completely new IP?
        Thanks for your reply.

        • Spectralbuttplug

Don’t compare mgsv to resident evil.Plz.Fuckign plz.Mikami left RE and then it turned to shit so they exploited re4’s gameplay

        • OcelotSilver

Big Boss saga never focused on complex story. It was a character arc of Big Boss to show his descent. I don’t know why people were expecting a Big Boss game to be suddenly MGS2.

And no the method of storytelling in TPP is easily better than the previous games. It doesn’t try to shove everything in your face and requires you to be able to put 2 and 2 together compare to the previous games where it’s basically spelled out.

The previous games used game design to explore thematic ideas but most people simply thought of them as game-movies where you go from point A to point B and then trigger a cutscene and rinse and repeat. This time the game functions as a game to scatter plot details and what not around instead of just one place. This time the cutscenes are less which makes the player focus on the gameplay better which in turn lets them focus on the game design and what not.

Really MGS is one of the only fanbases that doesn’t want innovation and different styles. I thought the reason why MGS was one of the greatest games because it constantly tried to experiment with different styles and methods and ultimately TPP is the result of what Kojima has learned over the years.

You can choose to hate it and prefer the old style of vomitting exposition but TPP is objectively better.

    • Alexa Danielle Bresee

the times that snake doesn’t talk but “should” are times where he’s “in the game” — I saw that as being reflective of the Silent Protagonist school of game story telling, where the protagonist doesn’t speak during gameplay (or ever, in more extreme examples).

It didn’t bother me or feel out of place at all tbh.

      • BurntFM

Well the thing about that part where Miller asks you to say that. You can press the action button and Venom will say “Kept you waiting, huh?” a little easter egg.

      • Venom_Sina

Look at (3) in my comment. The beginning of the mission is a cutscene, helicopter crashed and Miller tried to contact V,but V decided to say nothing.
For the Quiet cutscene, yeah he talks, but a little. He should talk to Q in the fighter jet cutscene, but nothing.
Or the prologue scene:Why he doesn’t inform the doctor about the presence of Q?Maybe he’s having a talking problem or something, but why he can talk very good with Ishmael about 3 minutes later?
“He talks a ton in other cutscenes and on tapes.”Yeah,he talks, but barely, not a ton.The main character doesn’t talk much, but when he talks, you expect to hear some golden dialogues. But what about V?Only a few memorable dialogues. If you cut the rest of his dialogues, nothing happens actually.
I hope you get what I meant about bad silence. It’s not about gameplay or a cutscene. This silence is unacceptable and there’s no reason for V to be like this. But again this is my way of thinking,it could be right or wrong.
        Thanks for your reply.

      • Spectralbuttplug

YOU CAN FUCKING PRESS THE TRIANGLE BUTTON TO FUCKING REPLY TO MILLER SO YOUR FUCKING COMMENT IS FUCKING POINTLESS IMO

    • well it’s a though issue and we will probably never know why those decisions were made. i totally agree with you about the moments where there needed to be dialogue and there was none it was certainly bad direction regarding that aspect on those scenes.
it was always on the air (even if in most cases was a joke) that Kiefer was too expensive and that it might be a reason why he doesn’t talk much, maybe that’s true maybe it isn’t.
so, i’m not sure if Big medic talks so less because kojima wanted to express something or if it actually has something to do with kiefer. if he really tried to express emotions through mocap… well, he failed, big medic has almost always the same expression on his face, not too expressive.
i think it was a big mistake for the main character to be played the way it was, like you say there where better options if the intention was for us to feel like the character we play as. the only good thing (for me) about it is that once the plot twist was revealed i didn’t care anymore for the main character so i doesn’t matter to me that he barely talks.

about casting Kiefer, i think that was only a whim. i think kojima wanted for a while to have a big name actor on one of his games and he took the chance, i think it was the same case with having reedus on SH. it kinda reminds me of Rockstar in the past, when they also had famous actors playing their characters till they realized it was more of a problem in many cases and that there was plenty of good acting if not even better in other places to be found.
i give it to kiefer that he wasn’t as bad as i expected he delivered some good lines sometimes but i really wish he had never been casted (that doesn’t mean i would prefer hayter, his snake is kinda different to the one from GZ/TPP)

      • Spectralbuttplug

Hayter?Really. He is not big boss. They should have never cast him as baked snake

        • sorry bro i don’t know if you did get what i was saying, i actually mentioned him exactly to avoid anyone thinking i would prefer Hayter over kiefer hehe

i would have preferred Richard Doyle… and if the idea was to get an actor, Kurt Rusell would have been awesome

          • Spectralbuttplug

Halter actually copied Russell so his voice is not that fucking iconic as people say it is

          • yeah he did, that’s why i think it would have been cool to have Russell, he was the original snake in a certain way, he has a long acting career and lots of experience and considering how old he is now… an old big boss would totally fit his voice, but well that’s just a wish of mine, we’ll never get that anyway

          • Spectralbuttplug

Sean Connery of r big boss?Naw

    • FMercenary

I agree that they should have given Venom Snake some reaction dialogue/sounds during certain scenes, even if it would have been just a few words; really did feel awkward.

    • MichaelPayneV

Or it could just be Hideo’s way of making people want him to leave this franchise, with a lot of intentional bad decisions, so that the next Metal Gear to have a slight chance of being half as good as his “intentional” worst work (TPP)

  • FoxTamerMGO

    Off-Topic:
Even though MGS PO wasn’t a game by Kojima.. I think it was phenomenal! If Konami can pull an MGS PO again.. i might buy it. What do you guys think of MGS PO?

    • Jav

      I really enjoyed the story.

    • Venom_Sina

You’re right.PO has a lot of control issues, but overall it’s a good game (and a good Metal Gear).
I think Konami can create a good MG,even without Kojima.Okay maybe not as good as 2/3,but I think it can be a good game.A lot of fans are still in the “Fuck Konami” phase.I mean yeah, they did a horrible job about Kojima, but I think most of us will buy the next MG.I’m really curious about Konami and their way of handling the franchise. They can make a game that happens between 75-99 and give us some explanations about the happenings.
Let’s just wait for their first trailer and then decide about the game.

    • I’m literally listening to that soundtrack haha. That game was awesome.

    • Janeo

It was a really good game and I have hope that whatever new metal gear game konami brings out next will be great too, just that most people don’t think that. Even Yong who I used to agree with on almost everything has been handling the situation in a really bad way, I think a lot of people are. It’s wrong to just not give the game a chance just because you don’t like what konami did, the employees at konami never did anything to anyone and they are going to work hard on a new game and they deserve better than people just not giving the game a chance. I love all the Star Wars movies and the new one is just as good as the others even though the original creater had nothing to do with it, series are meant to be passed on and that’s what’s happening with metal gear.

      • Gatsu

George Lucas or JJ Abrams aren’t being complete assholes though, like some of Konami’s folks. Seeing how their decisions disrespect Kojima who created the series is enough imo to pass on a new MG. Just knowing how much bs they threw at Kojima’s face is annoying. I think Yong’s reaction is okey.

I’m not sure if all series are meant to be passed on though and sometimes might be better to end at a good time. I first didn’t like SW7 announcement but the movie ended up being awesome. So yes it might end up being a great new MG, but thanks to Konami’s actions I’m not sure will I ever give it a chance if it comes.

        • Janeo

The series definitely wasn’t passed on the right way but konami have the rights to metal gear and kojima has no say in it now so as fans of the metal gear we just have to hope konami can do right be the series. Yong just hasn’t seemed too professional lately and I know he is a YouTuber and doesn’t need to be but I have just come to expect more from him, it’s fine to be angry at konami but he just needs to say f konami every time he gets the chance and that’s kind of annoying. The guy makes a living from YouTube and konami allow him to use their footage so he should just take it down a notch. Not trying to defend konami but I’m just alway going to have hope for metal gear and I look very forward to see what the future holds. By the way, Merry Christmas

          • Gatsu

I guess its nice that some can still have much hope and understanding for the situation. I tried for a long time too. Yeah, Merry Christmas :). ^_^

    • Spectralbuttplug

Ccccaaalllliiinnnnnngggggg too the night.Kojima produced po so your logic is kinda wrong.Revengeance was awesome and I think it is canon.Too over the top but awesome

“Snake Asking Unnecessary Questions” Really cool video:

    • Jav

      Is great

    • BurntFM

LOL Fallout 4 has that question everything option in the dialog. Now I’ll think of Snake when I play.

    • MichaelPayneV

And Kiefer not in here, this shows me that Hideo has evolved his writing!

      Really cool video?

I’ve been looking for that since this ”Trough the eyes of a fox” video. It’s pure epicness. Don’t think it’s in the game though.

Merceron mentioned that the success of Metal Gear Solid V taught one lesson, and that is that you must believe in Hideo Kojima, contrary to what Konami has done.

It’s a fact that the development of a game lasts for a long time, so
who knows if it’s going to turn a profit? Who knows if it’s going to
achieve the promised quality? It’s important to have trust. The
development team all trusted Kojima-san, even if he was one of the few
who really knew where the game was going. The team was fully behind
    Kojima-san.

According to Merceron, Kojima-san believed in himself and in the
team. The result is that the game has become profitable just in a few
weeks, with a Metacritic score over 90. The first lesson learned from
this, is that you must believe in Kojima-san.

The second lesson is that the world of Japanese development can
achieve a success of this magnitude. It’ll give wings to developers that
are asking themselves a lot of questions. While it’s true that the
mobile industry is on the rise, it will help developers reach a balance
between mobile and other games. Metal Gear Solid V shown that there is a way.

Merceron continued by explaining that he lived the crisis between
Konami and Hideo Kojima in real time. In March there was an argument
between the Management of Konami and Kojima-san, which brought about the
news that everyone saw, including the fact that the studio would be
renamed and that Kojima-san’s name would disappear from the game’s
boxes, the removal of Kojima-san himself from the staff, and his new
    status as a contractor.

At that time the staff was at GDC (The Game Developers Conference in
San Francisco), and that’s where Merceron learned about the situation.
When he returned to Tokyo, Kojima-san talked to the team, saying “Don’t
worry, we’re going to finish our game, we will give everything we have
to give, and then we will see.”

According to Merceron, Kojima-san did not change his way of working.
He didn’t change anything at all, and behaved like before. Merceron
can’t imagine how Kojima-san was able to cope with the situation, but he
was really strong. He gave his team a feeling of confidence to go on
    and finish the project.

The members of the team asked themselves a lot of questions, they
hoped that the game would be released and be successful, and that it
would cause Konami to go back on its decision, so that the team could
start working on a new Metal Gear.

Merceron hoped to continue working with Kojima-san for years at Konami, also on other franchises. He hoped to revive Silent Hill and
more. Without Kojima-san there might be others in his place, but it
won’t be the same. He was the one who brought Merceron to the company,
so he could not stay at Konami after the creator of Metal Gear Solid had left….
    —————————————————————————————–
It must not have been easy for Kojima and co-workers, fucking Konami >:C. They destroyed many hopes and dreams. I believe in Kojima-sensei.

Niel can take any time his team needs. He already proved he makes quality content with TLOU, so I will wait for U4 as much as it needs to come out.

Konami forced kojprod to release the game for old gen and that is one of the reasons for the missing content. They didnt want the game for old gen.

  • MrVux007

    Hello everyone!

Not much time for me to write this, but for those who want to know,i wont be coming home tomorrow.

As i mentioned, the person who was supposed to replace me had problems(and still does) with his documents and the company didn’t find anyone else to replace me due to reason that holidays are coming…

They asked me to stay until January 8-th,to which i accepted, even tho ive been on this ship for well over 4 months now.But i wouldnt manage to go thru this if it werent for such excelent crew and captain(and good pay ofc 😉 )…

Also i will be surprisingly “busy” for next few days,so i wont be around on MGI.

So without anymore of my rambling,i wish you all great holidays!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

Now i must find an answer to the most difficult Christmas and life question…. https://media.giphy.com/media/m9qkPC4koiGNa/giphy.gif

If Hideo KOJIMA made a mg2 remake i would choose this song.Too bad the fans gave him too much pressure. And fuck KONAMI.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zcb1ZN7Jo_4

  • Gatsu

No matter how much many fans seem to hate TPP for some reasons, I think it’s great that Kojima tried different things again with the game. MGS games always are different somehow from each other, which I love about them and Kojima had the balls to complete TPP with his vision.

    • Spectralbuttplug

Fans put too much pressure on him

      • Gatsu

I wonder how much his twitter got bombarded because of some decisions.

        • Spectralbuttplug

          Sure

    • Many fans is Exaggeration at best my friend. MGSV:TPP was amazing, just super different. Kojima did not tried different things again, he created The Best Stealth SandBox ever that no one will make at the same level in a few years.

and it’s sad, that he won’t continue his ideas in the future of Metal Gear Series.
But I hope so that he can continue with new KojiPro.

      • Gatsu

Hmm yeah, I can’t speak for whole fanbase. There’s very many who love it :D, but youtube’s toxic comment sections sometimes give the impression that there’s lots of haters but they’re the loudest there xD.

Best stealth sandbox indeed. I’m sure he learned some things with TPP development and take some ideas with him to next game :).

    • Spectralbuttplug

What do you think about the song that I posted?Did you hear it when it was released.

  • FMercenary
    • Gatsu

:O nice… Kojima have been tweeting a lot in the recent days, I love it :).

    • It’s not really Santa or smth…. something is fishy here.
Isn’t this a concept art for a new character… but with a christmas theme in it?

      • Isn’t that supposed to be EVA?

      • Can’t really see how this character fits to the logo (If it is our new main character),
Probably some MG char or a mix of two.

        • I think you did not get it. They have no right to put KojiPro logo and paint a character that is owned by Konami.

It’s just a concept art of a new charcter or just a Christmas art.

          • Oh yeah forgot about that…

          • Spectralbuttplug

            Bwahhhahhahah

    • SNKtheStampede

      S… Santa Gear!
