Kenji Yano is now an employee of Kojima Productions, as announced in HideoTube Episode 3

Episode 3 of Kojima’s web series HideoTube has just been released, and in this episode Hideo Kojima and his co-host Kenji Yano visit the GAME ON exhibition in Miraikan to check out the various games on display. But first, the two had an announcement to make (no, they’re not getting married, but close).

Yano: “As of April, I became an employee of Kojima Productions.”
Kojima: “So I’m wondering, what will you be doing for us, Yano-san?”
Yano: “I’m actually not really sure myself…”
Kojima: “Yeah, I’m sure we’ll figure out something for you to do.”

Yano then asked what Kojima had been up to since the release of the previous episode.

“Well, I’ve been preparing our project, looking for our new offices, looking for talented people to join us… aaand, I’ve been looking into, experimenting with new ideas and technologies and other services. The other week I was in the US, and I tried out some performance capture.”

Kojima is referring to when he visited Sony’s VASG studio in San Diego, for more details go here.

After that, the two headed into the exhibition to play some games, and Kojima had to cope with Yano’s inferior gaming skills. Walking around the various old games, systems and technologies, Kojima seemed to recognize a lot and took it upon himself to become Yano’s very own touring guide.

At the end of the episode, Yano promised to start practicing more in order to improve his terrible gaming skills, and Kojima said they are still looking for staff to join the new company. For the next episode, Kojima wants a new location again, but what it will be is not clear yet. It is planned for sometime in May, after Golden Week (a Japanese holiday period ending May 5th).

You can watch the entire episode below with English subtitles, it’s just over 13 minutes in length and a fun watch.

  • This episode was AMAZING.

All famous youtubers make short episodes and for the more info they make another channel and upload another 10 or 20 minute if community wants that. This is the best decision and I hope so that he will continue making 10-13 minute episodes. Previous episodes were good but not great because 45 or 28 minute is a bit too much if you have nothing interesting to show off. I mean, I’m interested in movies and opinions from Kojima but come on… 45 Effin minutes! That’s a short Game Of thrones Episode.

This episode was well edited. Had interesting info about the past, present and the future of videogames, studio. HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE!, “Infiltrating the special exhibition”.

7:56 – moment where he saw HIS game (MGSV) in GAME ON Exhibition was awesome because he is a part of the history of videogames. I would check my own masterpiece twice too.

Super fun episode. Can’t wait for the next one. In fact, I watched the episode two times.

    • Yeah and the main problem with Kojima Station was that it was Japanese only. So all the talking bits were just not useful for non-Japanese speakers. Now we have subtitles, which is so much better.

Anyway, hopefully they’ll show the new studio in a future episode. That would be really interesting.

It’s awesome and interesting that Kenji Yano has now joined the new Kojima Productions studio. 🙂

I’m going to guess that he will be the new co-writer (based on the fact that he is a novelist).
He might help out with marketing as well.

Still isn’t as bad as all the un-skipable Quantum Break ads on nearly all IGN videos I click on – I actually unsubscribed from them because it was getting so ridiculous – they were flooding my sub box and all their videos had this ad of a crappy game I already bought, and my internet is so slow the ad constantly buffers – so a 30 second ad ends up being a minute long…

          God, I hate IGN.

          • We really want to make sure the ads on here are not too intrusive, that’s why they are in fixed positions and don’t ‘take over the screen’ or anything like that. Hopefully you guys can understand, it would get very expensive without them.

          • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

And we really appreciate that, Boss. Doing whatever you need to do to keep the light on is one thing, but finding ways that take into account the convenience of others whist simultaneously paying the bills and staying true to your own needs will always yield the best results for everyone.

      • Leguywhodrownedquiet

        Yup
Snatcher had an awesome plot byt cuntami might sue them

      • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

Policenauts spiritual successor anyone? I love space – there are too little games that use it as a setting, and the ones who do are often horror or Survival/exploration/mmo games.

KojiPro’s mission statement about the importance of creativity and fun over everything else makes me think his next game will have an outlandish setting, with a strong focus on story and player invention/mechanical storytelling. I don’t think his next game will be set on Earth, if so then it will be in the distant future. I want him to just make something so surreal, weird but affecting and poignant to various issues today – kinda like the Elegia trailer set up MGSV to do.

        • “Policenauts spiritual successor anyone?”

Yes, plox. Agree with everything you said.

I think Kojima will make a spiritual successor to PolicenautsxSnatcher with a strong focus on story and player invention/mechanical storytelling as you said. But I also believe it’s going to be something completely new in terms of the gameplay. Maybe an investigation game… Like you are a detective. Maybe a member of a law enforcement agency in Space???

and Stealth as a core gameplay would be so nice.

His face is too high up, it would be very uncomfortable and unnatural to stare at Ayako’s breasts in that position and distance from her, I doubt he has X-Ray vision to see through the headset. He looks more excited than aroused.

Off topic: Just watched Captain America: Civil War – and it truly was a mastapeace, with a capital masta. It is a text book on how to actually make a superhero film, solidifying how much of a utter hackjob Zack Synder and the team at WB truly are: Civil War has a larger ensemble than BvS, a large quantity of actions scenes at far better quality, and a much more complex, human and affecting story, it still has time to make jokes and poke fun at the genre, and best of all: none of the fascist, nihilistic, neo-nazi degrading philosophy present throughout BvS – the main theme of the films is violence and destruction, but continually questions its merit when put in the context of the superhero genre; very clever stuff Marvel…

Even after Kojima’s statements on the film I was still pessimistic. I didn’t think I would enjoy it this much; now I know for sure: never doubt Kojima senpai…

    • Leguywhodrownedquiet

      “Neo-Nazism philosophy”
Dude wtf are you talkig about
The Russo brothers know how to make a movie unlike Snyder 😉

      • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

The movie did it very subtly – but it still exists in it, so bare with me – I’ll have to explain certain things – it’s very long:

In BvS we see Batman use a hot-burning iron with the Bat-logo to permanently brand criminals, then he leaves them for the police to find. In the action sequences we explicitly see Batman kill people – we see him shoot a vehicle filled with criminals until it explodes, he disarms a guy wielding a knife and uses it to stab said guy in the HEART, he breaks a dudes neck, disarms another guy armed with a pistol and shoots him in the face , etc, etc – so the movie shows that this Batman is willing to kill in the heat of combat but if it isn’t too difficult he’ll just brand them and hand them to the police. Why bother taking the extra effort handing them random criminals to the police if you don’t care if they die anyway? I’ll get back to this.

You find out early in the movie that the criminals that he brands and hands to the police are systematically killed in prison due them baring the Bat-branded logo on their flesh. He brands the criminals like cattle, a way to forever class them as a breed of sub-humans who are will – up until the end of their lives be beneath him. The movie subtly implies Batman is aware of this – the criminals being killed in prison because of his logo. He does this because he has found a way to systematically kill off a class of people he brands as sub-human without pre-emptively murdering them like the Punisher, letting them be killed off in a literal prison, isolated from the rest of civilisation with the general populace being completely oblivious to this happening. Let’s think of another human being who physically branded a class of people he deemed as subhumans; herding them into isolated prisons where they are slowly killed off without the rest of the world noticing? Hmm, I don’t know, maybe Adolf frigging Hilter? When your superhero starts to resemble character traits of Hitler – you have failed as writers of a superhero film.

At first I thought I was overthinking this, but Batman continually does stupid stuff, he scalds Superman for believing that his existence means something, he even confirms his neo-nazi philosophy himself, I’ll never forget this line:

“My parents told me a different lesson, the world only makes sense when you force it to”

What is this? This line of dialogue is a literal description of the fundamental silver-lining of fascism. Nazism is one of the purest examples of absolute fascism. Fascism = forcing your world view onto others through sheer force; tolerance of other people be damned – it’s all about forcing the world to work around you. Seriously? They actually want me to sympathies with someone arguing the same philosophy that drove Adolf Hitler? I’m suppose to like this maniac?

Alfred should just do him a favor in the sequel and escort him to his parents grave, sit down with him in the orange filled hue draped over the horizon as the sun begins to sets, and while he is not suspecting; whilst his guard is down for just that one split second – put a .44 round in the back of his head – blow his skull right fucking open. Screw Zack Synder, man…

        • Leguywhodrownedquiet

This movie was fucking pg 13 not teletubbies
Tdk had fucked up stuff too
Oh and please don’t make me defend fascism
Hitler was drove by other things
If you read mein kampf he says that he’s doing god’s work!
Does this mean we must kill the westboro one by one
Well same goes for fascism and nietzsche
Also, I think batman killing was fucking shitty but his fascist quotes were badass
I don’t want to argue why I think capitalism has destroyed the beauty of the world
Sure fascism is brutal but well

          • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

I think there is a line though, the movie crossed it.

TDK’s theme: “Why do we fall? To pick ourselves up” – Despite the movie being dark, and pushing the boundaries of PG-13, it used its dark atmosphere to tell a heroic message.

BvS theme: “Things fall, and what’s fallen is fallen” – The complete opposite of the Nolan films: this movie is used its darkness to basically say, no matter how shitty things are now, they will always get worse, best to just give up now.

Batman is a superhero not a discount, PG-13 Punisher.

His Nietzsche quotes felt like it was written by an emo 15 year old. This is how you explore nihilistic philosophy:

          • Leguywhodrownedquiet

Nolan produced BvS if I’m not wrong
            R
The extended cut is r rated
Pg 13 punisher you said huh?
In the killing joke batman snaps joker’s neck

          • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

Nolan didn’t produce BvS – after Man of Steel he took his money and ran the hell away from WB.

Hmm, I can’t remember Killing Joke too well to remember him breaking the Joker’s neck. Are you sure? The closest I remember Batman actually killing someone is in the Dark Knight Returns when he breaks the Joker’s neck – even then he just dislocated his neck without killing the Joker, the Joker then just twisted his neck all the way around, killing himself and then batman seat on his corpse – that was kinda fucked up, but it was a Frank Miller comic so what do you expect? With that being said, there is a difference between killing a mass murdering psychopath, and what BvS batman does. This batman clearly doesn’t care if he happens to kills criminals, so why doesn’t he just go full Punisher and paint the streets of Gotham red with the blood of the criminals, blowing them away with a 12 gauge shotgun – that would be more entertaining and make more sense for his character as seen in the film.

The extended r rated cut won’t make the movie any better in my opinion unless we see batman roll like the Punisher:

            https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5zsVn_vZ9zE

No more branding and handing over random criminals to the police – he should either straight up murder people or don’t kill at all: there should be no in between.

          • Leguywhodrownedquiet

EDIT: Just thought Del Toro appearing on HideoTube – Please, Kojima.

      • Gatsu

Yeah :D, woah it seems I’ve missed something with this name change :). Also Leguy is back yeay!

        • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

          Yeah, this – I don’t know; it just happened…

        • Leguywhodrownedquiet

          Leguy is back?

  • Gatsu

Oh my god…this looks so awesome . I’m super excited!

    • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

Looks so good. The step up in production values from Human Revolution is really impressive, all whilst devs double down on the RPG systems; making it even deeper. They seem to be really building this game around you Role Playing as Jensen and him alone. Also, I can’t really remember a game where the decisions I make during gameplay effect the story to such a degree as shown in the game…

I really recommend watching the directors commentary for Human Revolution

      https://youtu.be/eg2kG-W5xo8?t=31

The devs are quite brutally critical of their own game, and it’s really interesting to hear about all the stuff they cut and couldn’t do due to budgeting, time constraints, and how they pieced the retail product together in the end. Makes me hyped for this game knowing that they see all the flaws with the original and openly lament on what they would change if given another chance.

    • I hope they fixed a lot of flaws that were in the first game. It was good but not great. Now they have the budget.

but… I hope that they won’t turn Deus Ex to Dishonored. Last Demo was exactly like that in some places.

Whoever did the captions for Yano san is a genius LOL I mean huehuehuehue

Shit , I need to stop it with the shrooms

  • Gatsu

I managed to finish my DS3 playthrough yesterday and damn, that last boss was perhaps the hardest boss fight I’ve completed alone in my life. Felt soooo good to win after zillion fails :D.

Now just waiting for UC4 and Stellaris <3.

    • Mr.Pony

I’m still fighting the princes, that shitty little prince..

      • Gatsu

Yea that boss was quite hard at first for me.

This is funny xD, one more reason for me not to invade lol :D.

1:24 is epic and that ending

    • Leguywhodrownedquiet

Imagine if comedians thelonelyisland and akon made a song about Ds
“I just beat Ds and it felt so gooooddd

    • BurntFM

It’s got multiple endings so no need to put it aside just yet. I’m still in farron keep. I haven’t had time to play 🙁

      • Gatsu

Yeah I found out about the endings and some optional boss I didn’t encounter. But I will go back to it later maybe, much of games to finish and other things to do :)…

There’s one of my favorite boss fights ever in Farron Keep, have fun ;).

  • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

Does anyone know if the song starting here is even in MGSV or where to find a direct rip of it?

    https://youtu.be/6yOuGmZ0THk?t=121

It really fits into MGSV – just imagine roaming the Afghan desert as that song plays.

I tried… This track must be known. Not MG, tried Black Hawk Down or Lord of war, but still can’t find the movie where I heard this. Keep us tuned.

      • JJBYACHFullOptions2FucKonami

Yeah, and it can’t have been specifically made for the video as literally all MGSV related soundtracks have been released.

        • Full Options

I thought I heard it somewhere… Almost asked IGN if so…
They must have ripped it somewhere in a movie we love.
People should post credits after everything ripped & published on Utube… ;D

A possible Koji-Pro PT like PSVR title ??
    Guillermo tweeted this yesterday…
    https://twitter.com/RealGDT/status/726243629514149892

    • Yeah, pretty interesting. Hard to tell if he wants to say something with that tweet, or that he’s just reminiscing on PT.

      • Full Options

Still no traces of Koji-Pro in the next E3 exhibitors list… Perhaps we will have fresh meat at Nordic Games. Fingers crossed.
A horror VR experience would make too much sense. We’ll see…

        • It’s probably too early to show something. But he might appear on Sony’s stage to say something about the project.

          • Full Options

Yeah, you are right. Just saw of course Konami in this list, and since it displays alphabetically, I would have loved to see Koji-Pro on top of them. 😀 I know Sept. TGS has 246 exhibitors but could not leak the list so far. I imagined that a small cut-scene or slightly playable teaser to introduce the new franchise could be possible (like a scene in VR), but yeah it is a bit Koji-soon…

          • Going by Kojima’s statements in HideoTube Episode 3 they are still in the stages of setting up the studio. But yeah, who knows. We can always hope!

          • Full Options

I will keep hoping. ;D I could kill to know if he was in production at Mark’s place (like he said “back in the field” or just there for little preliminary tests…

  • ADAMJENSEN13

Great episode! Its funny how Hideo react when He sees Galaga! Its like “Get out of my way dude You dont know how to play it” Hahaha! Great!

    • That’s actually Ken who was keeping it occupied for Kojima. 😛

      • ADAMJENSEN13

Really? Hahaha! Sorry! I thought that was some gamer dude.

    • MichaelPayneV

And sad how he react seeing someone play “The Phantom Pain” :(((((((((

      • ADAMJENSEN13

If I would be there on Kojima place I would say ” Hey kid You know I made this game? Its awesome isnt it” Hahaha!

@Nyxus:disqus Interesting poll… almost 50/50 after 160 votes so far..

I voted for sure Yes, because I want to see if the remaining staff can be able to cope with the situation, and if yes, how. I mean they have the full engine source, it is rock stable, so they just have to design missions and cut-scenes. No real need for big research anymore…
As for the story, it may be tough for them to rhythm something decently but who knows…

We clearly saw that part of the Konami staff don’t give a crap about MGS, nevertheless, I am pretty convinced that many old Koji-Pro fellows want something good for Snake.
That could be a nice sign of respect to succeed in finally having Hideo satisfied with what they will work on because he always wanted a new generation of autonomous developers to take care of the franchise, even without him.

We also have to hope that the board of directors won’t poo on their possible efforts, as usual.

The fact that Hideo is not on-board heavily disgust me. But yes, better to have another Snake attempt rather than nothing at all for me.

Question : If I had a brand new Fox-MGS6 copy running and tend to you guys the DualShock, would you refuse it ? 😀

    • Yes it will be interesting to see what they come up with. There are still plenty of possibilities that would be cool. And as you said, Kojima always wanted the series to continue under a new generation of developers. He probably didn’t wish for these circumstances, but still. And yeah, the results have been practically 50 / 50 so far!

      • Full Options

“He probably didn’t wish for these circumstances”
Yeah, what’s shitty is that at least if he was still at Konami, he could have been consulted more directly, and better mentored them for optimal results.
But hey, Yuji and co are always free to give him a call if not sure at some point of the dev, haha ! I am sure he’ll be even more than glad to reply / help them.
