Kojima shares photos of another photogrammetry session
Today Kojima shared some new photos of a photogrammetry session taking place at the studio. Some of the pictures (the one with the head full of markings) resemble photos he showed us a few months ago, so it looks like he’s once again working with a female actress today.

On another photo you can see a rack full of clothes, and there’s also one with the same rack, but this time empty. Perhaps Kojima has captured some different outfits during this session. When talking about his capture session, Guillermo del Toro explained how he had to put on several different outfits to be captured into the game.
Another interesting thing can be found on this picture. Notice the different poses outlined on the sheets hanging on the wall, likely used in the capturing process.
A lot of fans are expecting Kojima to show up next month during Sony’s E3 Media Event with a new Death Stranding trailer, possibly revealing the female character who will be in the game. The event will take place on June 12.
He also posted some new photos of the Kojima Productions office from earlier last year (May 23rd 2016), when they just moved in.

I saw it yesterday and think it was really awesome :D. Had creepy moments. Some parts of Covenant felt weird though, but I don’t remember 100% what happened in some of the previous movies.

I wrote a whole list of stuff that I hated, but Disqus screwed up and lost it all, and I don’t feel like writing it again. Which should go to show how many stupid, nonsensical things happen in this movie.
I just hope this movie kills Ridley Scott’s prequel plans, because I am so done with his crap. Give it to Blomkamp, give it to Zack Snyder, give it to Michael Bay, I don’t care, just get it away from Ridley Scott so he can’t f_ck it up any further.

Unnecessary lore, Alien Fassbender the movie, cliche horror tropes and so on. Even Aliens in these movies were not realistic with CGI effects, they were done very well but felt so fake.
It is beautiful though but everything else is just even worse than Prometheus…
I was also shocked by how bad the effects were. The budget was lower than I expected (just under $100 million), but even then, the aliens looked awful. I think it’s a great microcosm of the movie itself, actually: way more effort was put into the Engineer world than the aliens, just as the film focuses far too much on the endless monologues about God and creation than on the thing that the movie is named after.
111 dollars is under 100 dollars ! WTF
If there was one things to attack on this movie, I would not aim the effects which were very nice imho. I would rather mention some small unwanted fan-service sequences and few inconsistencies in the script instead. But I had a real great time watching it as a quite “confirmed” Alien fan.
Alien has a lot more to tell than classical horror movies such as “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre”, “Nightmare on elm street” series or stuff like that.
I think trying to dig the origins of Aliens through engineers go in maybe not the best directions for some, nevertheless I think it is cool to depict Aliens as not just “space cockroaches”, but a kind of side-effect of Engineers military technology.
The effects are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the problems I have with the movie. Some scenes looked okay, but others (the backburster, some shots of the Xenomorph) are really terrible.
The fanservice is really out of control, too. And it’s not just Alien fanservice, either – there’s a lot of Blade Runner callbacks too. It’s a really bad idea to start your movie by reminding the audience of another movie that’s not even in the same franchise.
The problem with explaining the Xenomprphs is that it takes away from the mystery and the… well, alien-ness of the creatures. Not only that, but having the creator of the Xenomorphs be a lame self-insert OC like a bad fanfiction is just about the worst possible direction they could’ve gone in.
Many Xenomorphs shots are awesome nevertheless.
Crossing franchises are often under the form of just small winks, and can be sometime appreciated / welcomed in movies. Like C3PO red arm btw.. 😉
That’s a common reaction out there but it has not yet been confirmed that David actually deserve that much credits for Xenos even if he calls them “his creations”. To me and so far, he is just farming them through his genetic mutations experiments. I am not a taxonomist expert on Xenos but Neos or the one at the end of Prometheus are fairly belonging to the same family of species like Great White Sharks and Tiger Sharks.
David did not “created” much things here. Keep considering him as no more than a bugged Weyland early model, traumatized that engineers killed his creator, aside snatching his head.

Nothing to deal with your argument right here, but I just watched Joe’s review between parenthesis and Joe is as accurate with Alien than he was with GZ. He act as a click-bait slave, not objective. Golgari, I think many shots with Neos and Xenos were also absolutely stunning in terms of rendering.
I agree the movie was obviously rushed under its cinema cut so maybe an up-coming Dir cut could hopefully solve some inconsistencies. The pace look impaired in various areas and the script credibility can be fragile at various points, yes, but the movie managed to grab my attention in a quite fun manner. It was really entertaining for me (at least).

For me this movie was beautiful as hell. This is Ridley Scott movie. But the story and the lore there made me so mad and it was unnecessary. Not a “bad” movie, but seriously missing well developed characters and especially, a strong climax. The bad guys (all of them), and the entire situation really felt menacing and that’s a win for the movie, but there is no pay off in terms of confrontation between the protagonist and antagonist.
I don’t mind the revelations regarding the lore but it’s really starting to feel like they are trying hard to push in front, stuff that should remain in the background. I guess it’s part of the curse that any sequels suffer from. Cameron was very insipred to switch the genre for Aliens, thus avoiding stuff like this.
Another thing that really really bothered me is that you somehow HAVE to know that those Youtube videos are mandatory to fully understand some plot elements. That a big step in the wrong direction in my book.

Hi Batzi, not sure if you wanted to answer to me, but I never said it was Stef this time. 🙂 I am not even sure if it is a girl even if they show a feminine reference dummy because they have apparently only one on this table so I guess they could use it for capturing both male and female subjects, but chances are high a girl’s mesh was 3D scanned.

So apparently in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie,Jack Sparrow is back in playing Johnny Depp 😉
Now don’t get me wrong,the first movie is one of my personal best movies of all time,second and third one were quiet fun to watch with my crew,while the fourth one…well i will just pretend that one doesn’t exist.
In the first 3 movies Jack always appeared to be the most stupid person in the room,while in the end of (almost) everything he does he ends up being the wittiest if not the most clever of them all(and ofc most entertaining character of them all).
Now take that away and what do you have left? A drunken buffoon,who has more luck then brains.I get it he is out of his prime years,but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have changed his character a bit without losing *much* of his wit and cleverness.It would seem they are focusing too much on comedic side of the movie and less on what made the first movie so special.
I’m yet to watch the movie tho,so these are not my final thoughts on it.

The first one is a truly great movie in all aspects. It was such a good movie that all the sequels ride on its shoulders, and will continue to do so until the actors will be too old to play in them.
I think you might be the first person I’ve ever met who has a deep love and respect for the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Sure, a lot of people watched them, but nobody ever seemed to really care much about them. It was just a series that offered some decent entertainment for a few hours.
Unfortunately, I think it’s this lack of real investment that’s going to sink the new movie. It’s both been a really long time since the last film (6 years, if you can believe it) and yet not long enough that the new one can be a nostalgic throwback like Star Wars or Jurassic Park. Ironically, it’s in a very similar situation to Alice Through the Looking Glass from last year, which was one of the biggest bombs of the summer. Most people I’ve talked to just aren’t interested in another Pirates movie. Of course, people said the same thing back in 2011, and then the fourth movie made a billion dollars. So maybe this movie will just do absurdly well despite the lack of pre-release hype.
Mind you,I have deep love and respect ONLY for the first one,while 2nd and 3rd were just fun to watch cuz they were nowhere near the quality of the first one.
I’m gonna see it on Friday and I know I’ll enjoy it <3. I really like the previous movies, they're a lot of fun to me.

Another reason could be that The Boss is transgender.

I have no idea what type of camera this is, but it seems like a very complicated setup. I don’t think Kojima would use a setup this complex if it’s just for reference photography, but I’m not drawing any conclusions yet.

I did recently watch a dev diary for Hellblade (the next Ninja Theory game) which talked about incorporating live-action footage into the game world.

Now, I’m not saying Kojima is going to attempt something like this in Death Stranding, but it is an interesting idea to consider. Maybe this would help work around some of the actors’ schedules, or maybe DS will have hallucination segments similar to Hellblade and it would be less hardware intensive to play an FMV than to try and do some effect in-engine. Just something to consider.
From the camcorder model standpoint, I’d say it is a Sony HDC 4300 (~40 000 $) able to shoot 2x slow-motion in 4K

Not sure at all what he is doing with it. Could be from shooting a HideoTube episode, as Nyxus said, to even mocap / percap because there are various very efficient techniques including the use of normal cameras such as this one, depending the kind of shots you want to achieve.
For example, virtual cameras are the top of the line over normal cameras for shots like travelings with facial capture, but if you need to shoot more fixed / static plans you can use traditionnal markers (you need 2 or more cameras, though).
There are also new very efficient marker-less techniques with a single camera, becoming quite mature / accurate thanks to various researches in this field.

I’d say mainly budget / time at first glance but those techniques are sometimes not suitable for more complex shots.
Marker-less save a lot of time because you don’t need to mess with positioning them nor the dedicated suit.
But yeah, you may drastically optimize your budget by decomposing your type of acquisition, and using different techniques depending the scene’s space requirements.

You know you can just buy a Sony camera right? Heck, even most Sony films don’t shoot on Sony cameras. Ghostbusters 2016, for example, was shot on an Arri Alexa. It’s more likely that, since Sony is funding Death Stranding, they either gave him the camera or let him have some sort of discount, and that’s why he’s using it.

“Working on the script” =/= “Shooting the movie.” The MGS movie is not going to start shooting for a while, and I and other posters have mentioned several reasons why Kojima might have the camera. That you choose to ignore them speaks only to your annoying need to spout conspiracy theories.

Knowing Kojima, he would probably find ingenious ways to use this in a game though (he already used live action sequences in MGS series before, in meaningful ways).
The way they’re using it in Hellblade is way beyond what they did in Enslaved. And again, there’s no way of knowing if Kojima is even attempting this sort of thing. He could be using this camera for any number of purposes.
