Hideo Kojima is going to be named Development Legend at the Develop Awards 2016. Kojima will personally accept the award on Wednesday July 13th, at the Hilton Brighton Metropole. It will be presented to him by Mark Cerny, another Development Legend. With this award, Kojima-san will join a list of esteemed developers, including Tim and Chris Stamper, Tim Sweeney, Phil Harrison and Peter Molyneux.
Develop editor James Batchelor: “Hideo Kojima is the epitome of a Development Legend – few developers reach the stage where their own name becomes as famous as their franchise. While hundreds of people have contributed to the success of Metal Gear Solid, it is Kojima’s vision that has driven the series and established him as one of the most ambitious games developers in the world. His ongoing work to push the boundaries of game design is inspiring. We are truly honoured to have him attending the awards, and look forward to celebrating his legacy this July.”
Aside from accepting this award, Kojima will also keynote the Develop: Brighton conference, in a ‘fireside chat’ with Mark Cerny. The keynote is titled Legends on the Future: Hideo Kojima in Conversation with Mark Cerny, and will take place on Wednesday July 13th, 9:30am.
Andy Lane, managing director of Tandem Events: “We’re delighted and honoured to announce Hideo Kojima as our keynote speaker for Develop:Brighton 2016. Known the world over as someone who’s at the forefront of what’s possible within video games, he continually pushes the boundaries. Alongside his good friend, Mark Cerny, these gaming legends have an amazing history within the games industry and I’m looking forward to hearing more.”
