Konami consolidates production divisions as part of internal restructure

Effective February 1st, Konami will be dissolving and restructuring their three production divisions, to ‘respond to the rapid market that surrounds us’. The notice was put up on the company’s official website on January 15. This will coincide with several personnel changes, all of which can be viewed on the official site.

The announcement has led to some media reporting that Konami is shutting down their game development efforts, but it appears to simply be a restructuring. In a statement to IGN, a Konami spokesperson said:

“The announcement made refers to an internal restructure, with Production Divisions being consolidated. We have not ‘shut down’ our video gaming division.”

Update: Konami provided some additional comments to IGN:

“The divisions supervised the Production Departments, which develops the games. […] The Production Departments will report directly to upper management, allowing them to respond quickly to the market.”

It’s worth noting Konami has been recruiting new staff last year.
