Eurogamer Digital Foundry: The Phantom Pain on Xbox One ‘much improved’ over Ground Zeroes
For one of their ‘Digital Foundry’ articles, Eurogamer tested out how the PS4 and Xbox One versions of The Phantom Pain compare. The verdict is favorable, stating that ‘in particular, the Xbox One version is much improved over last year’s Ground Zeroes – this time offering a native 1600×900 resolution that gives the console a huge leap over the last game’s disappointing 720p setup’.
Their conclusion states:
“Overall, the Xbox One release of The Phantom Pain is a closer match for PS4 thanks to its bump to 1600×900, and at seemingly no sacrifice to performance. After a disappointing technical turnout with Ground Zeroes last year, image quality is now very respectable on Xbox One, despite the upscale. It’s shy of PS4’s full 1080p image in terms of absolute clarity, but the results still flatter the game’s big ambition.”

I know how you feel. I may watch gameplay of games, but the only games I’ve bought on day one were Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, New Super Mario Bros. U and Titanfall. Only one of those I’d consider visually impressive was NSMB. But MGSV on PC… oh man

It depends. I got destiny way early and couldn’t even have my ps4 online thw whole time when playing because of who could get in trouble, that being said TPP is sooooo close I doubt there would be ant issues other than mayyyybe F.O.B or similar functions not fully working.

A shame, correct. I am not a specific HW fanatic (PS4 here, and -was -almost about to purchase 4K TV and a big PC) but X-Box One should be definitely on par. Weird… Why PC’s can go 4K (no need for a latest 9xx Nv series…) and x-box can not reach native 1080p ???

I been playing 20+ hours of TPP and I complete 7 main missions , and I start feeling sorry for those who play it on events early but restricted, I´m enjoing it NICE AND SLOW!!! MGS V and I are having a hell of a TIME!!!

I wonder to know about past-gen versions optimization. I’m afraid the silence about this aspect is a bad sign. Waiting for my PS3-version – in any way it will be better then nothing.
digital foundry is already working on it…expect the analysis soon !
No worries, KP are first PlayStation Top-notch professionals (almost- if not completely- indirectly part of SCEI R&D). It was very hard for them to pull out MGS IV but they did the job better than any studio. If you are more concerned about the gameplay, nothing to be worried of. The PS4 (or the PC for 4k), will be the ultimate 1080p journey but I doubt the PS3’s gameplay will suffer.
I have it currently (got it this morning) on PS3 and in my eyes the performance and optimization are brilliant
how is the performance during heavy actions scenes(during daytime)
and how much of an FPS drop do you have?
So far i have only had one performance drop and i have been bashin it for around 2 days straight now, and even then it was only around a second and it sped up directly after, and i dont know if it means anything to you but the load screens are super fast, all in all its a very good allround release, pop in isnt bad either which is a surprise… well you notice it if you are looking for it but you will be focusing on other thing almost all of the time

Sup guys, I read a very surprising detail in DigitalFoundry review of TPP. It says cutscenes are in 30 fps. I don’t really understand that decision. GZ cutscenes were great in 60, and wouldn’t it be a pain to the eye to play in 60 and then watch cutscenes in 30. Even XONE cutscenes are above 30.
