GameSpot: Inside source claims Kojima will leave Konami after The Phantom Pain is finished
Today, rumors have been pointing in increasingly worrisome directions for Hideo Kojima and his studio Kojima Productions. Konami has suddenly started removing his name from all websites and social media, and has even renamed the new LA studio.
And now there’s talk of a fallout. An inside source speaking to GameSpot states that power struggles between Kojima Productions and Konami have led to a shift in employee status for Kojima and other senior members of his team, who are now working as contractors. The studio’s management will likely be disbanded after development for The Phantom Pain wraps up. The source claims: “At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans.”
Kojima is expected to leave Konami when his contract ends in December, along with upper management. According to GameSpot, Kojima will have ‘limited opportunities to lend his appearance to promotions’.
According to the GameSpot editor, the new Silent Hills that was in development by Kojima is now a deal between Del Toro and Konami, no longer Kojima.
Keep in mind that this isn’t an official confirmation yet. As of now though, it doesn’t look too good.

Yes, this is a real shame to happen at this moment, when TPP has just been available for pre-order and everyone is looking forward to it. At least it looks like Kojima and his team will be able to finish the game. Let’s hope that if this is true and Kojima leaves, he takes Shinkawa with him because they work together really well.

Looks like damage control, and for now he is still working for them on Metal Gear, so in a way it’s true. Maybe they also plan to hire him as a contractor for future Metal Gear titles.

This is so sad… End of an era. Not really a good note to go out on after all these years with the company. I just hope development goes along as planned for TPP until they’re done with it. I thought the only reason Gillermo Del Toro was involved at all with silent hills was because Kojima. Also what does this mean for the FOX ENGINE? If it was developed by KojiPro but is owned by KONAMI, will Kojima not be able to use the engine he and his team have been working on for so many years?

From the reports I don’t think Konami is letting go KojiPro but absorbing them to the Konami brand. So maybe talented people who used to made groundbreaking games, will be forced to make the micro-transactions in a shitty mobile game. Only the Senior members will leave I think. If this is true and Konami won the entirety of Metal Gear’s rights I surely won’t be supporting any post-Kojima MGS games (yes, if things are as bad as they look this means the future of MGS is in the wrong hands).

I woke up this morning with a feeling of dread and sadness, it was raining gloomily outside my house. Little did I know that this day marked an end of an era for MGS and one of if not THE greatest video game developer of all time. Yes I understand he’ll be a private contractor until TPP is finished but he’s working on borrowed time.
I know its silly, a grown man being this attached to a person and video game series but the Metal Gear Solid series has meant so much to me. Metal Gear Solid was the game that got me interested in this medium, and it was thanks to Hideo Kojimas vision that video games evolved from merely a mere past time to a true story telling medium. I’m just beyond sad but at the same time, i’m glad Kojima can be set free and truly spread his wings

This is genuinely upsetting! OK so future MGS games may not be made with Kojima directing but up to The Phantom Pain are all Kojima’s babies. Kojima’s marriage was nearly ended by his work on Sons of Liberty and now he is getting his name removed from the series! An utter disgrace.
If Konami did oust Kojima, then that has to be one of the most pointless and stupidest decisions I have ever seen a company make.
On the other hand maybe Kojima wanted to leave and he wanted to use his Kojima Production Studio name for a new studio that he would create post Konami and Konami had to make some marketing decisions in order to avoid future confusion?

I see everyone is talking about Silent Hills and stuff, but, has anyone wondered what will happen to Metal Gear Online if Kojima Productions is disbanded after the game’s release? I hope this is nothing more than a marketing trick to get people talk about the game a lot more. (very unlikely though)

I think MGO will continue because the studio in LA is responsible for MGO, so I am pretty sure the servers are maintained there so I think MGO will remain online after Kojima’s “speculated” departure. That is why they renamed Kojima Productions LA to Konami Productions LA.
It seems Kojima Productions will no longer exist. And it will be renamed MGS Productions or something similar.
If this is true(which I am pretty sure it is) Kojima ,if he has the money, should take all of his stuff that he owns(equipment that is not Konami’s) and all of his staff and start up his own business retaining the name Kojima Productions.
Konami must be afraid that Kojima Productions is where most of the popularity is right now.
But if you consider Kojima’s past quotes, he might just stop making games all together and take up a new hobby whish I am hoping not.
This is all a dumb move by Konami, and even if this all was the will of Kojima, then they could at least have left the “A Hideo Kojima Game” on the box art.

I cant believe this, this is outrageous! I feel like BB when in the end of Ground Zeroes and the soldier who is beside him gets shot and dies in his hands, then he screams and shoots like crazy. What a big load of bullshit. Im fine with Kojima leaving Konami, but they cant just remove his name and KojiPro’s brand! Holy shit, TPP DESERVES to have those things, the box art and the credits would feel wrong without them…
And what about the FOX Engine? And what will happen with MGO3? Even if TPP is released made 100% by KojiPro, Konami has to maintain the servers and all that stuff, my god, it gives me the shivers…
Like I said, this blows my mind. They could’ve waited, too. The release date was just made public so little time ago, after so muuuuch time waiting. I was looking foward so hard to September. Now it hurts. Im sure I will enjoy TPP anyway, of course, but man, this sucks.

I really hope Kojima and his team(along with Shinkawa) goes to another studio like Platinum Games or even become a part of Bethesda like Mikami did with his new studio Tango Gameworks.
Bethesda will publish and promote the game, while Kojima has free reigns to do whatever he wants.

Also what a dick move for removing Kojima Productions logo on the game. They poured everything here, new engine, new development, everything Kojima wanted to have the best MGS he could possibly do.

Solid Snake will never be the same, same with Big Boss. We’ll never see what the true rival would have happened if Kojima directed it.
Also expect MGS to be rebooted with a new developer and staff ala Lords of Shadows style.
MGSV may truly be my last MGS game. I’ll check the new one, but i think i’m fine ending the series on a high note.

Damn Konami this is just if not worse as Capcom did with Megaman Legends 3.
I guess one positive thing to be taken from this is that now Kojima might actually go off and do something completely new (Dude should take a few years off and recharge his batteries though, given his work ethic is absolutely insane), though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bummed out about Silent Hills not coming through like it was originally planned. Still, del Toro is a quality writer/director, so I’m sure it’ll still be good.
It does make me wonder about Konami, though. I know that their pachislot department is where they make most of their income now, but in terms of videogames, do they really have any lucrative franchises beyond Pro Evo/Winning Eleven and Metal Gear (Though I guess that Kojima was trying to revive Silent Hill and make it big again, since SH has been total garbage for over a decade now)? Castlevania’s basically dead after Mercury Steam; Contra, Gradius and Goemon are all long dead and bured, and is Sukoiden even a thing anymore? What do they really have in terms of established franchises that still do okay?
del toro knows shit about video games, so i hardly doubt it will be a good video game.
I meant more in terms of the actual storytelling side. When del Toro’s on, he knows how good psychological horror works, i.e. Julia’s Eyes. I didn’t have a doubt him and Kojima could get the series back on track, especially when you consider that they’re both giant Lynch fanboys.
That said, what’s he really done in the videogame world? I only know about that canned zombie survival game he had planned and inSANE, which I guess is just vapourware at this stage.

TPP is “finish” and they say its ok and they gonna keep going for the fans, blablabla… but, Whats going to happen with Silent HillS? ’cause, after all, Metal Gear is Kojima’s baby, but the Silent Hill franchise is from Konami…
Maybe Kojima push them to far… Konami depends almost exclusevily on PES and Metal Gear to keep up, and Kojima know that..
Otherwise, Konami is using the FOX engine on his PES…

Kojima Productions has been sucking Konami’s money in order to make the Fox Engine and TPP. Maybe they can’t afford having studios of this caliber, that’s why they’re shifting focus to mobile gaming. Why spending loads of money on one studio than to a couple of other cheaper ones to make mobile games which either way will sell like crazy.
If he leaves, I wonder how long it’s going to take him to be able to fund large projects again. They spent so much time and energy building the Fox engine for MGSV and future projects and now Konami has just taken that away from them.

I literally just finished checking for an “update” on my PS4 to see if they really went that far. As of yet: nope.
Man would be pissed if they also removed Kojima Productions logo at the end credits of The Phantom Pain.

this is My guess. It was konami’s decision to sell Ground Zeroes for 30 or 40 dollars depending which version you bought. I guess they were aiming for Feb 2015 release. Instead Koijma san must have asked for 6-8 more months to polish the game. I just hope Konami does not cut content from the final release and try to sell as dlc.
Maybe I OD’d on clueless pills (defense mechanism), but are Konami going to fuck with MGSV further in any way than removing all traces of Kojima and if so, how and why? If all of this is true, Konami’s done nothing more than speed up their apparently determined quest for suicide.
Too bad mobile and smartphone “games” are selling so well. The gaming industry is getting more and more fucked every day.

Unpaid services for Silent Hill 2/3 Voice actors, Even Jim Piddock(Zero) mentioned about Konami’s low paid work that’s why he’s not returning in The Phantom Pain, Silent Hill HD Collection and Zone of the Enders Collection butchered release, fired creators of Love Plus and Tokimeki Memorial, Castlevania got screwed over with Ayami Kojima, Michiru Yamane and IGA leaving the studio, Tak Fuji left Konami as well, Yoshitaka Murayama(Suikoden creator) name removed before the release of Suikoden III(even though he actually finished the work all throughout) etc.
And now Kojima and his team taking the boot out just because Kojima Productions is probably the bigger name than Konami nowadays.
Shame really, but this is what happens when a company cares more about business instead of developing and pouring all their hard work and heart for making games for us players.
Quality is no longer wanted in today’s world I guess. =(

Konami is just butthurt that Kojima doesn’t want to make another Metal Gear game (especially because the main story loop will be closed) and them, being the big babies they are, get pissed and choose to let him go while stating that ‘they’ll take over from here’; effectively killing the series.
