Guillermo Del Toro: Kojima would be the only guy I would follow to the ends of the earth on anything

While MGSV will still be finished with Kojima at the helm, a project we will probably never see the result of is Silent Hills, which he was working on with Guillermo Del Toro. Del Toro, disappointed about the cancellation of the project, told IGN:

The collaboration between Kojima and myself, the meetings, and the friendship that was developing was beautiful. We had an agreement on where to go. We had an agreement on how we were going to push the new platforms. We were having a blast.

If Kojima decides (or already has decided) to leave Konami, he will of course not be able to work on the franchise anymore. Del Toro still hopes some of the project can be salvaged, and either way, his enthusiasm for working with Kojima hasn’t waned.

Hideo and I have been in touch. And he knows he would be the only guy I would follow to the ends of the earth on anything. I think if anything can be rescued, I will be more than happy.

  • Man… this sucks… Their next gen game could be incredible… But it’s over. The End.

I’m sad. I’m sad since the day when Konami started this bullshittery.

    • I know brother, this is so sad when the ultimate team was going to develop the best horror experience ever, with starring my favorite actor. Seeing that photo with them smiling really shows how happy and excited they were on planning SH :(. It made me really happy to know they do it *sniff* …

But now…its the complete opposite, dream crushed. If I’d be a millionaire I’d give them all the money they need. Or if ppl do some kickstarter in the future I’ll gladly help. Hope to see them team up in future, but as Del toro said, after 2 failures he might not want to do games… :C

      Such great men.

Oh well, shed enough tears on this news of SH. Lets stay hyped for TPP Golgari and happy that soon get to play our beloved masterpiece 🙂 …

If kojima leaves konami won’t any big S.H. hire him as a videogame director?
Now,maybe we won’t have any proper MGS game in the future, but new games by kojima will come, that’s very possible.
    I’m sure they won’t suck.
Cheer up and be ready for TPP!
    Peace.

That would be awesome. Quick question, anyone a little bummed out by the “art of the evil within” book ? I have a large library of “the art of…” game books and this was probably the one that seemed the most..,lacking. I believe they explain one of the reasons why right off the bat in the book. They apparently skipped a ton of the concept art stage an jumped straight to the 3d model stage. I loved the game so much I was just hoping for a little more. Don’t get me wrong, its not complete crap. I just expected a little more.

I plan on buying the artbook soon.

Just need to save up some more ^^

I really hope they make a sequel to this game. Need more answers on what happened to Juile and Sebastian as well as Joseph and Ruvik.

Is it normal that I just felt goosebumps? :’) What great guys they are.

Really hoping they crowdfound something together or find a decent producer. They HAVE to work together in something, damn. I’m sure we’ll watch it, and will be wonderful.

Wrong quote Mantis… The right one is (to Del Toro): “You have a large place in his heart, but l do not know if your futures lie together.” 🙂

  • Hey who knows, maybe someone will offer to fund the project that could have been Silent Hills, but maybe under a different name. One can hope 😀

  • so, Del Toro ended being as much of a fan as every one of us.
i’m glad he thinks this way about Kojima, and it’s sad to see that he couldn’t complete his second attempt at a videogame, but third time is the charm, it would be great it they both work together on something else after TPP

    • GDT is the man-I’ve met him a couple times (he was in TO nonstop for a couple years during filming for PR and Crimson Peak, ran into him around the city), and was always impressed at how classy he is. He doesn’t seem to give a crap about being rich or famous, just seems to be glad he’s in a position to do what he loves. Also loves his fans.

      • hey, you’ve been lucky to met him. and yeah he also strikes me as the kind of person you describe, i like his works and his vision ( i assume he has some influence on the designs on his films since all of them share some similarities ) is just sad that he doesn’t seem to get as much backup from companies as he deserves, the guy has a lot of potential for stories and i appreciate that a lot in an age where we live surrounded by sequels and reboots.
