Kojima on PS4: ‘Closest to the photorealistic quality we are aiming at’

In a ‘Conversation with Creators’ video released by Sony Kojima talked a bit about Metal Gear Solid V in relation to the PlayStation 4.

Sony’s new system is just a little over a week away of releasing in Japan. Kojima had this to say about the console:

I think, between the home consoles available in the domestic market, the PS4 is the best. It’s also excellent for graphics, being able to render 1080p at 60fps with room to spare. Since it does it a little better than other hardware, the image quality of the PS4 is the most beautiful. It’s the closest to the photorealistic quality we are aiming at.

Keep in mind that the Xbox One doesn’t have a release date yet for Japan.

Here are some additional details Kojima provided on Metal Gear Solid V:

The map will be loaded in the background, which means there is no need for loading times between smaller areas like there were in MGS1. Back then systems did not have the memory required to load the whole map, but with PS4 this is possible. Because of this, Kojima can develop a challenging game of hide-and-seek that he always wanted to create.

The aim was to create a photorealistic game, but through the eye of the camera lens rather than through the naked eye. This is imitated through things like the real-time lighting techniques that were used for this game.

Creating games with a lot of freedom that still tell a compelling story is what Kojima sees as the biggest challenge for the future.

We’ll I am getting ground zeroes on ps3 but I just don’t know about phantom pain not sure when I will have a ps4 so I just hope the ps3 version still looks great, I’m happy playing with graphics that don’t look as good as long as we don’t lose any features for last gen versions

i’m in the same boat, will get the ps3 version but when i get a ps4, i’ll probably get GZ again and it will be a good excuse to replay it and apreciate the smooth framerate and graphic improvements

        Same here.

Unless, of course, there is a substantial difference between current-gen and next-gen. But apart from resolution and frame-rate, it seems to be the same.
