Memorable Metal Gear Moments – Access Denied (MGS4)
Prior to the events of Metal Gear Solid 4, Snake has started aging rapidly. His body is not what it used to be, to Snake’s frustration.
During Act 4, when Snake is back on Shadow Moses Island, at a certain point Otacon tells him a five digit security code, which they’ll need later on. A bit later, Snake and the MKII arrive at Otacon’s old office, where they need to input the code.

At this point the game asks the player to enter the correct numbers.

This is one of the rare moments where there are two different outcomes for the cutscenes, depending on whether you entered the right code or not. However, the first time playing this game, you may get caught off guard. It’s easy to assume Snake just enters the code in a cutscene.
After entering the wrong code, Snake does not want to admit he forgot it, no matter how obvious it is to both the player and Otacon. This results in a really awkward moment, awkward in a sad way. Otacon enters the code himself, assuring Snake there’s no need to worry, but it’s clear that it pains Snake not being able to remember the numbers.
It’s hard not to feel bad for Snake, who clearly realizes he is not fooling anyone – let alone himself – when he says, searching for words: ‘I knew the number… In fact, I… remembered it just now.’ This small moment really underlines what the story is about: this man who once was a kind of superhero, one of the best soldiers in the world, is now standing so closely face to face with his own mortality. Snake’s Psyche bar goes down and his lie falls flat on the floor.
So on your next playthroughs, make sure to always remember the code. Do not put Snake through this again, in all his hardships and sacrifices he deserves at least this little moment of satisfaction. He may need a muscle suit to aid his failing body, he may be a shadow of what he once was, but at least he did correctly remember this code, proving to Otacon and mostly to himself that he is not dead yet. The content look on Snake’s face after entering the right code is all the motivation you should need.
Note: there are two iPod songs you can unlock by entering different codes. Input 78925 to unlock ‘Opening – Old L.A. 2040’, and 13462 to unlock ‘Policenauts Ending’ You can also enter 14893 for 100.000 Drebin Points, and 12893 for a 20% discount in the Drebin Store.

I entered this code right!
I always thought his content reaction was kinda funny haha. Now I know why!
Yeah i was off guard when the game asks me to input it. I was paying attention more on Snake’s reactions rather than remembering the code.
It was an awesome experience since the game wants you to pay attention to these kind of details 🙂
I may play MGS4 in its 10th Anniversary(2018). I feel MGSV has a few more years till i get bored ^^
I always intentionally avoid memorizing the code. But I use the drebin code instead
Not gonna lie, I loved seeing him grin (like he rarely does) when you get it right and I’ve never tried to get it wrong or actually forgot. Good thing.
I still remember “RRLRLLRLLRRLRLRR”… 😀 !!
The radio frequencies also in all MGs
The Drebin system was a lot more time friendly than the heavy RPG systems of PW/TPP.
Didn’t know about those other codes you could enter. Pretty cool! Love this cutscene too.
I beat this game about 50 times and got the code wrong 49 of those times.
Such a lust for wrong codes.
Most of my runs were either speed runs or runs to unlock more animal ranks to get the platinum so I skipped the cutscene where he tells u the code. I did feel a little bad for snake every time that psych bar went down though.
I’d take a metal gear in the rear!!
Kojima recent Tpp Interview : He also explains the lack of cutscenes in the game by stating that even though they were a selling point of the games before, they served as an obstruction to freedom

“Obstruction to freedom” yet every mission in mgs v has a mission area that you can’t leave lol.
WOOOW cutscenes are obstruction of freedom? REALLY? I can’t believe he said that.. obstruction of freedom is making me wait in the helicopter for 1 minute till deployment.. -,-
That was a great moment 🙂
I entered the right code only at my first playthrough all the other times I used the wrong code to see this scene. Sorry Snake 😉
I always go for 14893.
This is one of the great moments in MGS4.I encountered a similar scene in Heavy Rain, when Origami Killer kidnaps your son and you go to the police station.Officer asks you about the color of boy’s clothes, and guess what:I wasn’t paying too much attention to that honestly!!! I was like:Hey David, you got me there, lol.
The same thing happened to me when I played MGS4 for the first time.I forgot the code and…(but I cheated and pressed X and boosted Snake’s psyche, lol). But after that I wrote down the code and entered the right one everytime.I didn’t want to hurt Snake, lol.
Bedankt,Boss for this article,and I mean HUGE,HUGE thanks.It brought back some memories.
Heavy Rain <3
All the Quantic Dream games should get a HD update for PS4.
Man…this would occupy so much time playing.
They are doing it right now (Heavy Rain and Beyond).IMO HR was a better game than B,cause it plays with your mind, but B is more like a Hollywood action movie.
Whaaaaaaaat? Really? Great news. What about Fahrenheit?
No.Only HR and B will get full HD treatment.
Awwww bummer. Oh well, can’t have it all I guess. But still, thanks for this awesome news. I’m looking forward to it 🙂

this guy is way to talented to be ignored… check out his channel and you might learn a thing or two…
I have a pretty good memory. So I don’t think I’ve ever gotten that number wrong…
If at all (and thats a big if) konami should continue with remastering mgs4. of course only if remastering doesn’t mean removing cutscenes and butchering the game to get more mass appeal!
Regarding MGS 4 there was so many memorable moments. It is hard to choose, but I guess my favorite cut-scene was the Raiden Vs Vamp + Gekko duel ! 😀
As for my favorite of all moments in MGS 4, I love many (final boxing with Ocelot, Mantis Puppets, Crying Wolf, man, so dense…)but I guess the Rex VS Ray fight is the one (for me). The first time I was… “Awesome, I am controlling a REX, Yepeekai !… Wait… Ocelot has a RAY !!!?… That’s not fair !? But let’s try to kick is .ss anyways…” :DD
