MGSV: The Phantom Pain will have a companion app
As with Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain will have a companion app, meaning you’ll be able to use your smartphone or tablet for certain things. Like in Ground Zeroes, you can display the iDroid map on it.

During the Japanese Boot Camp held last month, reviewers were also provided with tablets to try it out.

On iOS the app was weird. Sporting a 5S and it looked always out of bounds to me, so i deleted it again 🙁
sry to hear that. i too use my 5s for the app and i thinks its ok. maybe turn off accelerometer in options? that made it much better for me
Still need more details about companion app. Will it be released for PC? Can we control building construction on MB, changing it logo and color, send soldiers on outer ops, upgrading weapons, customize FOB with companion app? Second screen – map option to me is less interesting thing because of dynamic situation on the battlefield, if you in straight battle or get away from it with full speed then you just haven’t time for map on PC tablet and smartphone and if there are all clear and no danger then you can just use iDroid in game. And it’s totally different theme when we talking about control of game mechanics outside it, it’s really innovative and can be good if combined with real time upgrading and buliding construction system.
It’ll be cool if you can do everything the idroid does on the app.

So l was wondering. Has this “never before done in video games” feature been revealed that Kojima was mentioning?
Nah I’m pretty sure that was about something to do with returning to Camp Omega in TPP.
I am holding out hope that maybe the Ground Zeroes map turns out to be a new location but expanded! If you get out of the map in Ground Zeroes now, the distance that looks traversable looks huge so maybe it was a “work in progress”.
I wonder what it will be. Kojima’s tweet about it was mysterious as always.
What Lefta Gaming said. I think it’s something with transferring data from your Ground Zeroes plays. Like the prisoners extracted, I guess? His claim sounds tremendous but it may be something simple as that. I think Banjo Kazooie tried something like that and even the Zelda Game Boy Colors games wanted to do something similar but neither fully realized it. So I can’t say if no other game has done something like it before, those are the only examples I can think of and they weren’t implemented in the end, so, I dunno if it’s totally accurate or not.
Shame we can’t move our save file from PSP PW to PC GZ to PC TPP…. that final scene would have been all the more emotional if we got to see dogtags with names of our staff, and seeing Zeke with our customizations.

It was a letdown, yeah. I was excited to see how good it looked and then it looked worse than the original trailer.
Does anyone here have tried the GZ app? Is it useful? I don’t have tablet, just my trusty smartphone.
It kinda is. You can monitor your surroundings and call in the chopper without having to stop what you are doing. But it is not really necessary. The map isn´t that big and there is not that much to explore… So, it kinda is but you can do fine without it.
Guess i’m just gonna use it when my friends came by so i can brag and tell them how cool this game is 🙂
If you REALLY wanna brag, invite them over when you get your hands on TPP. They´ll soil their pants from sheer awesomeness XD
I just used it on my phone and it was helpful, maybe more so with a Nyko smart clip. The real draw of the GZ app was the Motherbase mini game where characters and vehicles were unlocked with GZ achievements. I’m hoping the companion app for TPP will let you manage MB remotely so I can send troops out on missions while at work, etc.
That could work actually, you can just clip it to your ds4 and play. Very nice 🙂
I prefer to use it on my Xperia tablet. I only wish the leather case leaned forward a bit when I set it up to stand.. But other than that, if you got a tablet I’d recommend using that over a phone obviously for its bigger screen. Just let it sit in front of you. If my tablet falls asleep, I just double tap it to wake it up. I only hate that sometimes it loses connection from my ps4 and have to reconnect. Messes up my pacing.
It really enables “coop”. I give my tablet to my wife or brother and while playing GZ they tell me about surroundings, enemies close or call in the chopper. I think with TPP they will make all my supply drops and request new researches.

If your smartphone is a android or iPhone you can download it from its store. I on the other side own a windows phone and will surely get nothing… That said, I borrowed a android for GZ and didn’t like very much the MB minigame but the idroid map is kinda useful as you don’t need to stop to call a chopper or tagged enemies. Only fun at the beginning as it grows useless with time and not really necessary as the only appeal is it is easier to use. Cumps

I don’t know why they won’t implement it. Even Rockstar released their iFruit companion app for GTAV on the PS Vita & Windows Store. It would damn sure give myself, and other MGS fans that have a Vita, reasons to still keep using it frequently.

Can I stick it on the upper corner of the screen and get my radar back without having to literally look away from my screen and adjust to that screen and then look back for information that will be delayed anyway because I have to look at my tablet. Why did they remove my radar and stick it in some dumb companion app 🙁

lol I never used this for ground zeros. Did it come out for the pc for GZ? This is a great use, although they could have just put it in game, but that’ll be too easy. This will help us noobs who want to do S rank.
Finally some news about the app! I was worried they weren’t working on it anymore ! Getting to manage base without having to be on the game would be totally of the chain! ! Hopefully the GZ app was just a small taste of TTP on the go!
