MGSV Web Manual provides New MGO screenshot and details: free roam, shooting range
Some new Metal Gear Online details can be found in the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Web Manual on the official website. First of all, here is a screenshot that shows the game’s HUD.
Furthermore, there are some details on game modes and matchmaking. The game will begin in free roam, after which the player can either improve his skills at a shooting range or go into a match using the iDroid. From the manual:
Free Roam
METAL GEAR ONLINE begins in free roam, during which no online battles take place.
Accessing the iDROID during free roam allows you to join online versus matches as well as perform character customization, etc.
You can also access a shooting range to polish your skills between battles.
Matches
Select the iDROID’s [MATCHING] menu to join versus battles.
- [AUTOMATCH] Select your preferred mission and automatically join a match.
- [CREATE MATCH] Configure your own mission list and create a match.
- [SELECT MATCH] Select a match created by other users to join.
Metal Gear Online will launch on October 6th for consoles and January 2016 for PC.

I was not expecting that… Now it makes sense they delayed it.
The minimap is too small… I hope you can zoom it out so you get to see a bigger piece of the map…

yeah, I have the game for PS4, PS3 and PC. I acutally like the pc controls for the game. But f-ck. That’s what made me get MGS v for PS4 in addition to my PC. My ps4 copy will be mainly for MGO.
Yeah hats why I went PS4 too, I might pick it up for PC just for modding tho.

As long as it isn’t a full blown all weapons hot free roam, we should be good. Free roam kills the heart of gaming. Or at least missions. Because everyone will flock there and actual game lobbies will be dead. I like free roam though because it lets us enjoy the game and relax and socialize(Unlike gtao free roam. Anti social all out war) No skills necessary. Sounds like that’s what we are getting.

FREEROAM!!! awesome, I didn’t even expect that, so I guess dedicated servers are confirmed then? If so then that makes microtransactions more understandable to me. Server maintenance isn’t free.
Is this free roam just a waiting room? I mean I would still love to have an actual Online open world free roam to infiltrate enemy bases and level up with friends, I don’t want to just fight other players all the time…
It says “no online battles take place” in free roam, so it sounds more or less like a waiting room.
Would be really cool if you could do co-op side ops in the free roam mode with other squad members, but I I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Yeah, we can only hope… After all not everyone wants to always be in PVP.

True, but That’s what Peace Walker did well, Co-op Side Missions, they should bring it back for Phantom Pain, for MGO3, that’s a reason that could explain for the delay.
I thought of Red Dead Redemption instantly when I read the whole free-roaming thing, awesome.
I played through GZ again tonight and sat through the whole credits again and just soaked it all in. LESS THAN TWO HOURS EVERYONE!
When I saw MGO and free roam in the same sentence, I thought for a second that there would be a mode similar to GTA Online, lol.
But GTA Online was a huge technical/architectural failure. I hope you are wrong :p
I meant in the sense of the entire open world being available to all players at once.
