‘Mother Base Coins’ prices revealed
The prices for the so-called ‘Mother Base Coins’ have been revealed. These coins can be purchased with real money and be used for the FOB feature of the game.
The prices are: $49.99 for 6000 coins, $29.99 for 3500 coins, $9.99 for 1150 coins $4.99 for 550 coins and $0.99 for 100 coins.
The prices in euros are as follows:
€49,99 for 6000 Mother Base Coins, €29,99 for 3500 Mother Base Coins, €9,99 for 1150 Mother Base Coins, €4,99 for Mother Base Coins and €0,99 for 100 Mother Base Coins.
Here is Konami’s explanation on the use of Mother Base coins (to Gamespot earlier this month):
To clarify, the initial FOB, which includes the FOB command platform and all sub-platforms, is not behind a Mother Base coin paywall. Maintaining other FOBs past the initial set of FOB platforms can be purchased with Mother Base coins. More information regarding the payment model for FOB will be provided closer to launch.

“A Hideo Kojima Game” and the Kojima Productions logo is ALL OVER the actual game, just not the box. Don’t understand why Konami nuked their PR for nothing.
It is OK to re-design a single static picture but for a game it is a different story. The texts metrics and positioning have been carefully fine-tuned to keep all homogeneous in term of UI design as well as artistic looking. In the game, dozens (if not hundreds) of sequences are concerned, it would have introduced a lot of hard efforts even if it looks easy at first glance.
Besides, who at KCE would have dare asking that to KP ? If I was about to pull out something as big I would rather leave my devs alone, rather than give them this kind of extra work.
I’ll take pride in doing it without paying and earn everything I have, no thanks Konami – nice try though.

And then you have only two ways. Many PC players will become overpowered cheaters and game will become too easy for them but for anothers – too hard who don’t know nothing about cheats and that’s how all interest in game will die for both OR PC players which break up MB coins and need to be offline instanly without FOB 1vs1 fights. Obviously MB coins in game will be sync with Konami server everytime you use it.

You know, this will be one of the first games I have played that does this, the game I have been waiting years for and the game I have the most excitement for and the game which has the most meaning is Konami’s flagship game to push their microtransactions. When I say my experience will be hurt greatly by this is no small exaggeration.

Am I the only one still a little confused by how these work? So it seems you have to pay for additional platforms with MB coins. I get that but is it also like you get 3 MB coins a day for free and have to pay for more FOB invasions for that day, similar to the other ‘free to play’ games that slowly regenerate play tokens over time?

Ok well somethings going on, i just pre-ordered mgs 5. ( as preload had started ) on the austrlian playstation store and yup seemed all good, it started downloading but i noticed i had no pre order bonuses, so i checked my wallets purchase history but metal gear solid 5 wasnt there.. hmmm ok, checked my bank account nothing, all the while its still downloading, so next i checked my emails to see two
1. confirmation of pre-order
and
2. pre-order has been cancelled, ok WTF!
again its still downloading right now, and dont me wrong i like free stuff, but not like this.. i dont know what to do as this has never happened, dont even know how it happened, also strange is that in the orig confirmation email it says i ordered

So, my theory was right, the first FOB is adquired through GMP, making FOB gameplay “not pay-walled”, but the other two require MB Coins. Im sorry, but knowing this I dont buy anymore the “100% of the game can be accesed playing” bull, its a disgusting half-truth, almost an outright lie. If you can have 3 FOBs and 2 of them are pay-walled, 10% of the game is pay-walled. What if I have a lot of free time and want to maintain 3 FOBs? Do I have to pay, o surrender myself to god-only-knows what rigged and stingy daily log-on roulettes? Pff, and lets see what they do with MGO once its online, I shudder thinking about it. Also, those prices, MY GOD.
Im sure I will love the crap out of TPP, but this pisses me off because I knew Konami was going to be dishonest and maybe ruin some aspect of the game. They were hippocrites the whole time defending one time after another how the micros were only time skippers and completely optional. If a want to have more than one FOB, this doesnt seem precisely optional to me. Microtransanctions in a full price game are never excusable, but if they were truly optional like they said, I wouldnt mind them that much.

The price of games has been constantly going up here in Canada. Last gen is now about 65$ to 70$ and next gen costs 70$ to 80$ though most of the time it’s 80$

Our dollar has been hurting, and since it is tied heavily to things like America it will only get worse. And yeah due to the dollar falling I’m sure the MSRP would be higher or something, everyone in the ladder of the product is greedy.

Yeah, I stated as well in a comment below, unfortunately it is only going to get worse.
I’m in the US too so I don’t see game prices increasing but even at 80$ US I could still see incredible entertainment value in video games. I tend to use movies as my comparison. A 2.5 hr. dvd at 5 bucks (a really conservative estimate) means you’re paying 2 bucks an hour for entertainment. Compare that to 60$ for a game that takes 60 hrs to 100% and you’re only paying 1$/hr. of entertainment and that doesn’t include the difference between replay and rewatching something. It may be apples and oranges to some people but for me it justifies paying 60$ for a game or in this case 120 for the CE.
I’ve been playing for around 30hrs and haven’t seen any MB Coins options…Probably because the servers aren’t working yet so I cant get online.
My TPP guide has shipped, still waiting for me actual game to ship though, lol.

The golden age of AAA games is over – its time is over. TPP will be one of the last of its kind. If there is another game with a similar vision and ambition as TPP it will be cut up and sold in chunks in order to make returns on it and keep the publisher afloat or it just may not even happen again. The only reason Metal Gear has been as good and lasted as long is because Konami is so stupid and have only just realised Kojima’s artistic vision and striving for perfection is losing them money. Sadly no other publisher is that stupid, this game will be one for the ages.
