Number of owned nuclear weapons in MGSV – July 7 Update
Another week, another update on nuclear weapon ownership in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, as provided by community manager ‘J’ via the official Japanese Metal Gear Twitter. Here are the latest graphs, as of July 7th. Since the last update, numbers went down on all platforms, even if not by much. Still, the exorbitantly high numbers on Steam have not been resolved yet.

The current numbers, as of July 7th, are as follows:
PS4: 1831
PS3: 819
Xbox One: 167
Xbox 360: 305
Steam: 8764
Since last update:
Number of nukes went up
Number of nukes went down

Happy Birthday, Metal Gear, Happy 30!
its today?? please let there be an announcement…
It’s actually the 13th, but a lot of sites have it listed on the 7th.
I wonder how it came to this
Apparently the official manual for MGS1 said July 7th.
Hmm it does indeed https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/627dfa1681f5e722aabee115074da4b754148ae50676ed09c67c367620693705.jpg
I have been controlled by the Media…NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It probably is a mistranslation on the English manual because the Japanese manual says, “メタル ギア ( MSX 2 用) が 発売され たのは 1987 年 7 月。”, which only mentions the month of July and the year 1987. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5f12a358c6c5c303ee431e4d554102a246fb31fed0a2a730b83172015bc55a3f.png
Yeah, good theory.
By simply doing a google search with FMercenary’s string (“メタル ギア ( MSX 2 用) が 発売され たのは 1987 年 7 月。”), many Japanese wikis and other sites complete this date with the 13th… I believe 13th July 1987 is probably the most accurate we can find so far. ;D
This “@bayurarafat”, who seems to be a quite HC fan for some time now is likely considering 07 / 07 / 1987…
Ken re-tweeted him. Not sure if he agree with this date though, but could be…

I am going to ask Ken directly over twitter, he probably won’t answer, but worth to give a shot… ;D
Looks like MGI provided the ‘official’ 30th anniversary logo. 😛
(it was made for this article: http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=29383)
Haha great ! Must have been o_O for you when you saw it lol.
Cool logo btw. The guy just reversed the colors, hehe… Did you designed it ? 😀
Well yeah, if you can call it designing. Just a font and some Shinkawa art and some black bars. 😛
Ok, we’ll call it compositing then, but it is somehow still design..
Well dosed, and for sure this Yoji’s shot is awesome (I recognized it).
xDxD I know you would never spoof any Yoji’s drawing but you are right to precise in case someone interpret it otherwise.
There still isn’t an official 30th anniversary logo. A bit worrisome…
If nothing shows the 13th then we are perhaps doomed…
Can you tell when they decided to celebrate the 25th anniversary ? I think I remember you stated somewhere that they did it later than the official release date. Like August or something, if I remember…
Yes their big event for the 25th Anniversary was on August 30th: http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=2047
So there is still hope.
As we discussed somewhere a few month ago, I still think it would be a complete commercial non-sense to ignore this Anniversary, yet for a possible robust advertising opportunity along with the possible bundles or goods they could sell for the occasion. Who knows.. Let’s hope they’ll do something.
I thought that it released for Japan and Europe on the 13th and for US was on the 7th , but I’m not sure.
US did not have the MSX-2 version though. Only the NES version and that was released in 1988.
Mmmmh, weird.. Konami US was established in Nov 1982… Weren’t they at least mainly importing Konami UK (formed in May 1984) translated cartridges at this time, considering them somehow US / world-wide English ? I got my copy of MG around 1988 in France, but most English Konami cartridges I had before and after were probably translated in UK I believe.
My dad was bringing me japan cartridges from his meeting there but I was mainly “imposing” action or shoot em ups :3, got Penguin Adventure, Nemesis 3, Salamander and Parodius in Japanese, but no way to imagine playing a game like MG in Japanese at this time, even if I would have give an obvious try if obliged… xD

oh i see thanks for clarifying 😀
Happy Birthday indeed!

I saw a video that this game was rumored to be an MGS game for N64 at the time by Konami. Kojima had to step in and change the title due to people confusing it to the PS1 game. Some of the scenes and story(cloning of super soldiers) really does remind me of the MGS. I do like the RPG mechanic of just using punches and kicks as a gameplay mechanic instead of guns(there are some in the game, but not a lot).
It’s a great video if you are curious about this niche game. You can see him explaining the gameplay and RPG mechanics which does has interesting take on the genre.

Was Kojima actually telling the truth when he said that Project Ogre was not Metal Gear, and this is the real “Project Ogre”?
Project Ogre = Oats Studios
https://youtu.be/Yr2_GR6oSxk
It isn’t the first time a machine made guts and other human parts appear when cooking, first something stopped the turkey, then some human hair appeared, and now this?
This screams Kojima!
I prefer that “other” cooking program

Well this remark is interesting…

Along side the “Error” signs when this other guy says that Oats is run by Neil Blomkamp, as if it’s actually not!
I wonder who would that be.

OT-ish: I don’t think anyone’s brought this up, but apparently the 3DS port of Snake Eater was planned to have Extra Ops, as well as a cutscene theater and something involving the gunship from the Virtuous Mission. In addition, it has the audio files from Snake vs. Monkey, even though Sony would never allow Ape Escape characters to appear on a Nintendo system.

Seems like they were going to be small challenges in levels from the game, as well as boss battles. Would have been a neat bonus, not sure why they were cut.
Peace will happen ✌

Off-topic, Castlevania season 1 is now on netflix if anyone is interested to watch :).
already did, unfortunately its only 4 episodes long 🙁 The other four are supposed to release only in 2018
Oh I see, I was thinking it would be longer :). Was it good?
I’m gonna watch it later ^_^.
Yeah it’s good, its a shame it ends when it starts to get really interesting.
I saw only small clips from the animation and it looks nice at least when it comes to animation.
Dunno about the plot and everything else.
Will try it for sure.
It was sweet and short….thank gods they made a renewal for season 2!
