The Phantom Pain could release in FY3/2015 or FY3/2016 ‘depending on development stage’
Next month Konami is releasing Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the prologue to the much bigger Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Kojima explained one of the reasons to release the first part earlier is because The Phantom Pain is taking a long time to develop and therefor won’t come out anytime soon.
Konami’s financial report seems to confirm this, suggesting the release of the game may even launch as late as FY3 2016, depending on the development.
This was reported by market analyst David Gibson on his Twitter, posting statements from the investor call.
Konami admitting Ground Zeroes is a bit short, MGS5 could be released in FY3/2015 or FY3/2016 depending on the development stage

Of course at this point it seems just too early to predict when the game will come out, but one thing is clear: it won’t be very soon.

A 2015 release, i figured as much but a 2016 release would be just plan cruel
Thank God, we have Ground Zeroes for now. I was kinda hoping The Phantom Pain would release 2015 and 2016 though. But only because I really want Kojima to take his time.
I agree. I actually expected the game for 2015, but whatever it will be, I want Kojima take as long time as he needs to make the best game possible.
Well the third fiscal quarter 2016 translates to 4rth quarter 2015, so it basically fits in with my expectations that the game wouldnt release until next fall.
Oh I didn’t know that, I thought it meant actually in 2016. Do you know when exactly the third quarter of the fiscal year ends?
It means April 2015 – March 2016
Ok, thanks. So it could still be in 2016 then, at the latest, but still.
Nope unless delayed from this projected schedule, it will still hit before 2016 🙂
All right, that’s good news.
The third quarter of fiscal 2016 ends December 31, 2015.
I hope they at least release some (Free) DLC for GZ updating it with more extra ops once in a while, because as shor as it is now, is not gonna last me 2 years.
I guess I can still replay all the MGS games again, in the meantime.
2016, that’d be a rough wait. But it’s a good thing they’re taking their time with it. It’s nice we have Ground Zeroes to fool around in, it’ll make the wait a little easier. If 2016 is a thing though I think they should almost ditch the last gen versions of the game to make TPP as good as it could possibly be, I’m sure last gen with the weak ram and all that would limit what they could do in terms of details in the world overall, and that would affect the next gen versions too since they need the same game running on both platforms
I’m not too worried about that, I mean if there are even differences between the PS4 and XB1 versions that shows they are adjusting for each system, at least to some extent.
Yeah of course there’s that but I was more thinking big differences. Say they ditch the last gen versions they could probably do more overall in the world with the extra power, say an even more interactive base, more enterable buildings, etc. But then again seems like they’re going for good performance (60fps) as a big focus which I have zero complaints about.
I wouldn’t be against it, I’ll be getting it on PS4 anyway. But it might be disappointing for those who bought the prologue on PS3 if the main part isn’t available for their console.
Yeah, that’s true.
Still… Not having to worry about Xbox 360’s limits would be for the far better. MGSV could reach heights so far above then it can with last gen limits. By 2015 people should have the PS4 or Xbox One. If they have $ to spend on Ground Zeroes & then spend again on The Phantom Pain, they have $ to save for a PS4 & Xbox One.
Well if it is 2016, I know what they could fill the gap in time with, a certain sequel to everyone’s favorite hack ‘n slash starring a white-blonde haired cyborg we all know? :3

I do hope Platinum somehow makes an MGR2 reveal this year. After all they made us take a pretty lengthy survey about the game some monthos ago.
Maybe Kojima Productions and KONAMI will be a sport and do a Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain Episode Release instead. You know guys you could release the portion of the game that’s 110% done.
Not the best idea especially for a sandbox game and we are talking about a game that has Mother Base/Outer Heaven type of progression + stealth sim and decent progression and episodic release can confuse players with the story.
Don’t forget for “cost” issue. 40$ for a Next Gen version is enough already.

Hold your horses. This is just financial years. It can happen in late 2014 at the earliest, so yeah.
Yes, I changed the title and text to adjust for that.
2016
Too much fuckin BAD…Chingon…
We want play this game ,faster…
Work hard , please…!!!
We pull money in recruits and GZ, just to Waith for TPP
They allready demons
they should have taken time for Ground Zeroes and release it by the end of 2014 in preparation for Phantom Pain.
now we know the game feels too rush and wouldn’t be surprised if the main mission gets finished an hour or two later
