Yoichi Wada (former president of Square Enix) comments on Konami’s treatment of Kojima
Yoichi Wada, former president and representative director of Square Enix, commented on the Kojima – Konami situation (and specifically Kojima’s absence from the Game Awards) on Facebook (translated by Kotaku). He doesn’t see how Konami could benefit from handling business like this.
As I know Mr. Kojima, I want to say, ‘I can’t believe this cruel treatment!’ But, here I’m going to give my thoughts as a corporate exec. However you think about this, this is a negative for business.
Maybe leaving the home console market is management’s plan, but going out of your way to make enemies with the world has no meaning. Generally, this kind of thing happens when there’s a lack of leadership. I think, perhaps, there isn’t someone in charge who is paying attention and laying out all the little details for whole enterprise.
When you are not aware that the feelings of your own department aren’t aligned with the world at large, the results can be deplorable.

During last week’s Game Awards host and producer Geoff Keighley made it clear that Kojima was prohibited from attending the show by one of Konami’s lawyers. Obviously this hasn’t been too good for the company’s reputation, and it’s hard to imagine what they think to gain from all this. Kojima’s still under contract, but maybe we will hear more when that officially ends.

This is a cool photo. There is Julien Merceron. He is a technical director for MGSV. He left Konami not too long ago. I hope that he can join Kojima in the future. He should join the team because he understands everything about the tech and the difference between Western and Japanese thinking about technology.

Im assuming that since his contract is supposedly ending this month, by first quarter 2016 we’ll have a little more closure on the situation from Kojima and hear about his upcoming future projects. Can’t wait for when that happens!
To be honest… I don’t think so that Kojima will tell something about the “situation”. I think there will be some NDA’s about the company for some years after he will officially leave Konami.
And I’m not sure that ppl should know more about this… I mean, there are too much negativity surrouding Konami right now.
Kojima, I’m sure, does not give a shit anymore. “He is on vacation” and his fans support him. We should support him more then ask about the situation.
I want Kojima to have a great publisher, the best studio, best technology and tools to work with and his next project under a new ip. That is the most important part.
But I’m not sure that we will hear something about his project until the end of 2016.

I was going to say the same thing about NDAs. I remember reading about the guy who made Dead Space, how he left EA, and the interviews some time after that are filled with very generic “yeah, we had different opinions” and things like that. Then, much time later (probably when his NDA ended) he came to say how he was treated like shit (his words, by the way) and several things that he had to deal with inside. i think it will take many years to get something concrete about this (excluding rumors and anonymous sources).
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I don’t think we will get the full story for a while, if ever.
The best hopefully has to come. I hope Hideo is not bound to some other / further legal obligation.
Seeing what they are capable of, I am really scared.

Thay have to back up people that really built their industry, and a bit faster since the last developments.
The fact that even notable figures in the industry are calling Konami out just says how deep in it they are.
I expected a little more notable figures to stand up though, and FASTER (it is never late). But most of them have lawyers at their doors…

I have always tried to defend konami because we just can’t be sure what has been happening, they are a business and they have always been handling this situation a little too publicly but I always tried to believe they didn’t deserve all this hate they were getting because without them we wouldn’t have metal gear solid 5, they are the ones that fund it and make it possible. Don’t know what happened behind the scenes but I really can’t and don’t want to defend konami anymore, konami wouldn’t be what it is without Kojima so even if it something happened with him he still deserves respect, he deserves to go and celebrate the success of his game. I would never get angry and say f konami but I will no longer defend them when people talk about them like that, they just kept going further and further down and now it’s just at a point where it doesn’t make sense because this banning kojima thing seems more personal than business and a business should never do anything for personal reasons.
When I started finally seeing people defend Kojima. Relief started flowing to my veins. Still is. Glad people are expressing themselves about it. What a joke this situation is. They should hand him over the rights of mgs.
When they said mgs can continue without Kojima I got wayyyy pissed. What a thing to say. Kojima always gives the games the awesome weirdness that makes them mgs. Very realistic but also out of this world enemies (cobra unit) that make me go wtf I’m scared. When I first fought the skulls. I was realllllllyyy scared. Was screaming at the television. Finally a game that made me feel scared and tense and involved again after years of disappointments in videogames. Thank You Kojima

is CIPHER in MGS V just a code for it’s realworld counter part KONAMI?
Offtopic, but has anyone else experienced their browser slowing down whenever opening an article here on the site? My PC hangs up for a second and the browser briefly gives a Not Responding Error. I’ve only seen this issue on MGI.

I got few issues to load the disqus-comments part of MGI yesterday. The MGI side of the site was fine. It something like the second time in 2 weeks. Not really annoying.
Can you load the article at all or is it just the comment section ? For me, the temporary error was talking about a wrong certificate(was on my smartphone / Android). I don’t know if it is related.
Disqus has some problems sometimes. They usually go away pretty quickly.
Yeah it is quite rare and never last more than 20 mn or so (at least for me).

Kojima has gained influence within Konami, so konami’s CEO felt threatened that kojima might take his place one time.. so he screws him over before that happens. Just like when the CIA head in MGS portable ops screws over Fox Unit because they’re gaining influence within U.S intelligence units and might take over CIA.
Ok it is NGBO’s reddit but they speak about a rumor coming from an insider at Konami and saying that Hideo should be free the 10th of December. They added that it is still a rumor but their source is considered pretty legit and also said that Hideo’s future plans will be revealed before the end of the year.
