Develop editor James Batchelor: “Hideo Kojima is the epitome of a Development Legend – few developers reach the stage where their own name becomes as famous as their franchise. While hundreds of people have contributed to the success of Metal Gear Solid, it is Kojima’s vision that has driven the series and established him as one of the most ambitious games developers in the world. His ongoing work to push the boundaries of game design is inspiring. We are truly honoured to have him attending the awards, and look forward to celebrating his legacy this July.”

Aside from accepting this award, Kojima will also keynote the Develop: Brighton conference, in a ‘fireside chat’ with Mark Cerny. The keynote is titled Legends on the Future: Hideo Kojima in Conversation with Mark Cerny, and will take place on Wednesday July 13th, 9:30am.Develop-Brighton-Legends-on-the-Future

Andy Lane, managing director of Tandem Events: “We’re delighted and honoured to announce Hideo Kojima as our keynote speaker for Develop:Brighton 2016. Known the world over as someone who’s at the forefront of what’s possible within video games, he continually pushes the boundaries. Alongside his good friend, Mark Cerny, these gaming legends have an amazing history within the games industry and I’m looking forward to hearing more.”

It’s the CHINA! Countdown bing bing bo…..
    Oops wrong song
    Kojima is love
    Kojima is life

  • At this point, Kojima is probably has most of the “Best Developer Evar” awards.
I like this a lot but at the same time I don’t. I mean, it’s like they are all asking him to retire. I want Kojima to create and receive more awards in the future.

I’m more excited about that “Kojima will also keynote the Develop: Brighton conference, in a ‘fireside chat’ with Mark Cerny”.

IMO, I think Kojima has found his new technical director 😉 We will miss you Merceron. ;*

    • Don’t worry, Kojima will not retire, he has said that multiple times. Fortunately for us! 🙂

      • Venom_Sina

That’s right.Good.No need for you to go just yet.

        • Kojima’s acceptance speech for the award: “Legends don’t mean a whole lot. I was just a name to remove from the box.”

          • César H. Sandoval

“We realized too late; that we had created a Pachinko beast. We had helped turn AAA into Mobile. Konami’s sin was ours. And for that reason, I’m taking it upon myself to send Metal Gear… back to Nothing.”

          • Full Options

At least, Konami created, against their own will, the ultimate weapon to show how the pachinko industry is a desperate and pathetic solution to circumvent money gaming regulation in Japan… They are winning prizes exchanged with pachinko balls that they right away exchange for money in dark stores dedicated to it.
The pachinko industry is a plague for Japan. I am glad that Hideo became also a weapon to fight against such moral driftages.

          • César H. Sandoval

No greater good. No just cause!

Those awards are the least that could be done. I am sure he’ll grab plenty of GOTYs statues in the future.

Julien is as well in very good hands, no worries, he is in pac-man’s head-quarters. 😀

    • Lewis

I laughed a bit at the line, where he needs to remind Kojima who he is. 😀

    • César H. Sandoval

Quinton, I love you dude but get real, Hideo didn’t even care abou Snake’s english voice, I doubt he will give much respect to you…

Raiden wasn’t even voiced in MGSV lol

It’s great Kojima is getting so much recognition for his contributions to the industry – must be very for uplifting for him coming out of Konami.

Completely off topic for those who care:

    • Gatsu

OOOOOH MY GOD, ME:A footage . Looking awesome!

    • Spectralbuttplug

      I don’t see gameplay !
All I see is a fucking tech demo .
Can these stupid misleading titles stop?

      • JJBYACH

Ok, ok, calm down… No one is going to hurt you, lol.

It’s not much, I agree but there is gameplay nevertheless. It’s not a tech demo for starters, it’s a leaked progress report from one of the development teams. In industry teams within the studio often make videos/presentations to show how far certain features – either technical or mechanical – and how far these features are away from being 100% completed. They present this report to the to the lead game designer or producers or whatever during the internal meetings as a way to quickly communicate progress – does this make sense? I’ll shorten it down.

        Tech demo = marketing.

Internal Progress Report = developers way of knowing what the hell is going on with the actual game they are making.

A tech demo isn’t meant to show how a game is suppose to play – this leaked gameplay did: A new mechanic was revealed (Jetpack), improvements to the character animation system was revealed (specifically facial animations), and the HUD and graphical interface was shown – it also revealed a cutscene that is obviously in progress, if you read the text at the bottom you will see it is not marketing features in the game engine but dictating what has been developed and how far it has come.

I honestly don’t see what is misleading about this, maybe I should of specified just for you “Leaked Progress Report, not a 45 minute gameplay video commentated by the lead game designer”. I don’t think you watched the full (50 second) video , if you did, then I don’t know, man…

        • Spectralbuttplug

Shit,If I continue whining like this I’ll get banned
So It’s a report sent to the publisher so that they can see if their game gas featires they want etc.
          Thx for the information

      • Full Options

Relax Spectral, it is just a leak, nothing official. We are even not supposed to watch it, it is TOP-SECRET / CLASSIFIED stuff ;D
Those sneak peeks are also usually juicy because they give gameplay details you would perhaps not even see in official gameplay trailers.

        • Spectralbuttplug

Yeah Full options(I don’t know how to properly write your name but my name is Jatin if you’re curious coz spectral is weird af)

            ;D Cheers buddy.

          • Spectralbuttplug

I actually remember that Sina wrote your name but I forgot how to write it
            Thanks mate

          • Full Options

            All the best, brotha 😉

    • Full Options

Thanks JJ, those meteorites blasts samples look so rich ! 😀
The quality of the explosions… Depending possibly used resolution, normal maps cycles can quickly become costly, however, if properly setup. They are more and more at the frontier between fully procedural effects and wisely shaded particle sprites… I mean for real-time, it is just getting almost suitable for movies… WOW (o_O)
They are also reaching so advanced lighting / shading tech… Thanks to guess which kind of studios pioneering efforts…
Which is great is that at some point, is that all studios fight together the same war and share their technique fast. Both full 3D and screen-space effects are evolving so fast… For example, you almost find now a new tech per day (exaggerating a bit but not that much 😉 for AA or AO, almost at every google query (let’s fully exaggerate it finally) since years now. So cool… 😀

      • JJBYACH

I feel you. The smoke from the jetpack and the explosion looked insane, seems similar to the ones seen in Uncharted 4, but I know that game mixes pre-rendered extremely detailed alpha effects with the real-time render (in only a few instances). This seems to be running entirely in real-time so I dunno, nevertheless; still looks amazing.

Mass Effect 3 & 2 ran on a heavily modified version of Unreal I think, so is this one running on a modified Unreal 4? Seems like it.

        • Full Options

Don’t get me wrong, re-reading myself, I appear doubting but stay sure I am truly a-ma-zed 😀
          The code should be top-clean.
Particles are always an interesting challenge, because in front of that infinite possibilities, we always feel, more than other effects, that we can always come up with something cleaner but never have the time for it. Mass Effect team are likely taking their best shot at it. ;D
Man, are we leaving a dream to see all the awesome games that will be published tomorrow !?

          • JJBYACH

Yeah, Bioware are stepping up their game with this one. It just occurred to me that they are probably using the Frostbite Engine, Since Dragon Age: Inquisition was on this engine and pretty much every single EA game.

About the fast comments: happens all the time with me – I usually type on my phone so I make some pretty odd mistakes when re-reading.

          • Full Options

What’s impressive is the speed how big studios can rewrite their engines. Frostbite depots have evolved like hell, sometimes I am glad to see engines trying to innovate along with trying to craft a really noticeable hallmark.. So did MG’s, that logically becaming FoxHOUNDEngine :DD
The asset pipelines standards are also so hard to coordinate (I would say fortunately, because the last thing we want is a single studio/technique to rule them all…).
I mean from one to another, exportation from DCC tools is fine, but for making it to the engine, there are always welcomed / customized optimizations ahead.

Fast comments : THX, :DD still bad… Even few glass more now.. xD

  • Gatsu

This is great honor for Kojima omfg

    • Lewis

The scores are great, let’s plays look fantastic. Looks like DS trilogy finishes on a high note (not every trilogy can afford that, lol). 🙂

      • Gatsu

I haven’t read any reviews of it yet or watched lets plays. I love going blind to most games :). But yeah it seems it is gonna be mindblowing :D.

        • Lewis

That is the best way to do thing, if you are confident in a game. I’m not a die hard fan of Souls game, I just like them, so I checked out some let’s plays and I think I will get it when I have money. 🙂

P.S. Metacritic score is 90, that might tell you something 😉

          • Gatsu

Yea blind playthrough is especially best on story rich games :).
But with some games I do check gameplay also, if I’m not familiar with the game.

Very nice, high score so far, thanks :D.

    • I’m excited too. Souls, Bloodborne, my favourite RPG series of last/this gen. Every game where Stamina actually matters is GOTY for me.

      • Gatsu

Yeah my favorite too :). Also DS3 help pass some time while waiting for other games too, but ofc my main reason I’m gonna play it is because I freakin love them xD. My first one of the series was Dark Souls and it brought back the challenging feel of games to me, which I hadn’t experienced in years. Also the dark fantasy worlds with crazy monsters are always so fascinating to explore imo.

        • Gatsu

That is a nasty place indeed, but the worst was Blighttown to me. It was the first time in years that I rage quitted a game lol ;D, so many deaths…goddamn poison. But oh boy…does it feel good to get past such places.

          • Mr.Pony

Nothing beats Ornstein and Smough, first time i saw i had to fight two bosses at once i just let myself die out of despair

          • Gatsu

Haha yeah…painful memories. I wonder how many times I died to those two xD.

          • Venom_Sina

            Oh,poison and those big assholes,lol.
And Quelaag boss.I died like 20 times, lol.I hate that place.

          • Gatsu

Quelaag was fucking creepy, but really cool at the same time.

          • Venom_Sina

            Yeah.Nice character/boss design.
I always had this question in my mind:Why she’s so mean, when her sister is very calm and lovely, lol.

          • Mr.Pony

Well because she thinks you are going to kill her sister, who is sick. She’s protecting her and you just swoop in and kill her. Yeah let those feels make you go hollow http://i.imgur.com/yFc5e.jpg

      • Gatsu

Hahaha this gif never gets old xD. On my first playthrough of DS, this didn’t happen to me thanks to this gif lol. Had seen it before Tomb.

But it summarize quite well what DS is about :D.

      • Gatsu

My body is hella ready too! Btw that trailer part 1:47 fire weapon dude remind me of Artorias of Abyss a bit, from DS. The way he does those few moves. Gonna be cool :).

        • Spectralbuttplug

          It’s the english premier league
It’s a trainwreck compared to la liga but you have very skilled players
Suarez used to play in Liverpool Fc
Ronaldo used to play in Manchester United which I hate

          • Venom_Sina

Oh,I got it.Yeah,I watch EPL when I have the time.Lester City rocks this season!!!
            I love MCU,why you don’t love them?

          • Spectralbuttplug

A bad experience with their fans and Van Gaal is a dumbass imo

  • Spectralbuttplug

Off Topic:To all the guys who thought Batman V Supes’editing was bad ,why don’t you wait for the blu ray cut?
The critics were so fucking wrong on the movie

    • Lewis

I didn’t go to the cinema, cause I wanted to watch it in English and the director’s cut, that is supposed to be R rated. Hope it’s good 🙂

      • Spectralbuttplug

To be honest Zack Snyder has been kind of a dick while directing this movie.
Atleast Chris Nolan wrote man of steel but BvS is still good
        Deadpool is much better lol
Apparently Affleck will direct the solo batman movie and it will have red hood in it 🙂

    • JJBYACH

My opinion: The blu-ray cut won’t save the movie- in fact I think it will make me hate it the movie even more. I found the editing was the least of its issues.

I wish they fire Zack Synder – the man can’t write to save his life. This is why literally all his films are just adaptations of other people’s work, because he doesn’t have the skill to create his own IP and he knows it.

If anyone likes the movie, good for you. But I hate it with the fire of a thousand sun’s, and will not support any sequels that have not Synder at the helm, forcing his distressingly fascist and nihilistic philosophy into films that don’t need it.

      • Spectralbuttplug

The dark knight returns had a fascist batman(Frank Miller) but IT WAS A FUCKING MASTERPIECE in my opinion and Snyder don’t know shit about comics but the movie was not that bad
300 also got mixed reviews but I liked it a lot
Oh and Chris Nolan wrote man of steel which explains why its sequel has a messier plot
Off Topic:Affleck is directing the batman:under the red hood movie

        • JJBYACH

I think The Dark Knight Returns Batman was far less of a fascist than the Batman vs Superman one (well, until Frank Miller made its sequel: The Dark Knight Strikes back, that was when Frank Miller went overboard on the fascism, the comic was terrible, hated by all and it nearly destroyed his writing career – in fact it has partially killed his career, he hasn’t wrote anything significant for years).

Chris Nolan didn’t write Man of Steel, he produced it. David S Goyer wrote it. Zack ignored nearly all Chris Nolan’s input for Man of Steel so Nolan just decided to fuck off for the sequel and leave it to Zack and Goyer.

About the under the red hood movie: would of prefer if he made an original script rather than a adaptation, the story in the comic book and the animated film was near perfect in my opinion and I don’t know how it can be expanded on. I’ll see.

          • Spectralbuttplug

Ben Affleck is a good director and I hope he works with a good director like Fincher for this one
Whereas all of Zack’s stuff got raped by critics except man of steel and 300?

          • Spectralbuttplug

Also the animated movie of TDKR rapes BvS and the under the red hood animated movie was near masterpiece
I also liked assault on arkham
Also the killing joke will release this summer

          • JJBYACH

Assault on Arkham was amazing. I never knew they were making a killing joke one, I’ll keep an eye out.

I loved Justice League: War, except it missed out alot of the good stuff from the comic. The sequel to Justice League: War (Throne of Atlantis I think) was decent… The new 52 based animated stuff is pretty hit or miss.

I think the killing joke one should be really good since it isn’t new 52 based.

          • Spectralbuttplug

Apart from Jlu i haven’t read JLU material

          • JJBYACH

You should read it – I enjoyed the first story (when they all met for the first time), I haven’t read the others. Since it was one of the debut stories for new 52 it should be able to pick it up for quite cheap now due to how “old” it is.

          • Spectralbuttplug

            Mmmkay
Also there is a typo in the comment if you noticed
I wrote JLU instead of JL
