PlayStation Japan has published a short video showing the history between their brand and Kojima’s legendary franchise.
The history between Metal Gear and PlayStation started in 1998 with the release of the original Metal Gear Solid on the original PlayStation, and since then Metal Gear games have appeared on every PlayStation system.

I can already imagine some reviews give -points for not having David Hayter, like with GZ lol. Well can’t really blame them though as David’s been with MGS such a long time.
No offense, but to me Kiefer is the Superior Big Boss, to me he sounds a lot closer to Solidus than Solid, exactly how he should, and Kiefer’s voice is also the middle ground between David Hayter and Richard Doyle!

I like Hayter as Snake and all and I felt he was a good Big Boss in Peace Walker, but I prefer Kiefer as Big Boss. Just… wow.
For any real mgs not to think hayter should be in any mgs is just plain wrong but… thats ok coz were all intitled to our own opinions but i will say for hayter to be dropped ( and i do hope this is kojimas final troll ) for what could be the final game is just plain wrong on kojimas part WRONG!… kojima might be the creator of mgs but hayter is the reason i loved the charactor of snake/bigboss and kojima should never have forgotton that 🙂
I don’t think is Kojiam to blame here, i have a feeling that is Konami who wanted Kiefer, but Hideo took the blames like a Boss, a Big Boss i would say.

Hmm well Hayter is a strong reason for me too :). Games can be amazing even without voice actors, which I’ve learned with Final Fantasy series. But MGS always have superb voice actors that bring more life to the characters.
I just happen to like Kiefer too also and I think is the reason I am able to accept his voice easier :D.

Honestly David hayters voice never made me feel anything. It’s just such a gruff stressed voice and I think he has trouble conveying deeper emotions because of it, Keifer is a seasoned actor and I think it really shows, but it’s all preference

Obviously this casting decision is beyond everyone’s control except Kojima and Konami. There’s nothing we can do about it. Yes, the way they replaced him was not right. That would be Konami’s fault (or maybe Kojima) for not letting him know beforehand. But Hayter will be fine …. he’s not out of work or anything. His primary job is a screenwriter! haha

I’m liking what I hear from Kiefer’s performance so far, but I need to play through the game until I make a final judgement.
All I can say is forget the way the casting was done and reserve judgement on Kiefer’s performance until you’ve completed TPP. I have high expectations for Kiefer to do Big Boss justice. From what I’ve seen so far, Kiefer has taken Big Boss to a dark level …. 🙂 which will hopefully transition into Richard Doyle’s Big Boss in MGS4.
If you still don’t like his performance, then that’s fine because you completed the game and listened to his performance! 😀

Limited by publishers? Mgs4 took 60 million to make, TPP took 80 million. He doesn’t have the engine he helped build or the rights to any of his IPs. He wasn’t limited by publishers and platforms, he was enabled.

Still on MGS4 and I’m not going to rush to finish but after it should I watch a play through of portable ops … Is it essential to the story? I really want to get Peace Walker because I notice you guys reference it the most and feel out of the loop…
Ground zeroes directly follows the events of peace walker, portable ops isn’t cannon.
Portable Ops is almost completely ignored now (Peace Walker effectively replaces it for the most part, for better or worse. Kojima didn’t direct MPO, he “only” wrote its skeleton story and produced it due to the KojiPro A-Team focusing on MGS4 at the time), but it’s absolutely worth watching a playthrough at the very least if you’re a fan of Ashley Wood’s art style. Very good soundtrack, too.
I wouldn’t for two reasons.
1) Kojima does not like it or consider it about his his MGS series, and thus he will overwrite and contradict the story at will, making knowing the story of PO just confusing and annoying in the overall lore.
2) The story itself for PO is IMHO horrible, it is cheap, VERY cheap, and is full of characters that don’t belong but are there because it is a MGS game and they could shoehorn them in. I hate the story of PO, and no I don’t really remember enough of it to argue why, I decided to remember as little as possible.
That being said the played the hell out of the game it is was fun, but PW is better for gameplay in every way making PO kind of useless even in gameplay terms, why play a hugely downgraded version of PW?
Long story short, skip PO and go straight to PW.
These games are the reason I’m going to buy a ps3. Well this and ninja gaiden sigma.

Ofc MG 1 and 2 matter, but it was way later when I actually really played them.

That was great, but I feel the need to point out that Metal Gear originated on MSX PCs. MGS did originate on PSOne, though, so you are indeed correct in that sense.

Oh my god guys.. i cant believe my luck and how bad its been this here.. I just get home today, put in ground zeroes and my Xbox 360 isnt working.. I panic, take it for a fix and just 5 minutes ago, i get news from the guy that my xbox 360 cant be fixed because all the main chips like exploded/burnt out inside.. there is no way to fix such a thing…

I completely agree on the multimedia device,since consoles are made for mainly one thing and that is gaming!
Now here is the elephant in the room,first those subscriptions fees,are not only multiplayer usage,but also used for PS-plus discounts,game testing,cloud save space and the sweetest part of all….monthly free games that makes your money worth
PC digital games and consoles digital versions of the games all have the same price tag on launch(for the most part),and then you may or may not expect some steam sales/consoles sales later on…so if you buy games on launch you will hardly see any difference in pricing

Nope,only stating an counter-argument about whats the “best” option for gaming..the moral of the story is,both PC and console gaming has its ups and downs,and using/claiming that only one of those options is better then the other is both objectively and subjectively wrong,since both sides of the coin are the same !when you take everything into consideration!
But i was generaly talking how to smartly use your money,if you want to save it up on console side AND confining yourself to only one platform will only make your gaming experiance lesser…for example i game on both the PC and PS4 currently(well not really “currently” since you know…real life obligations suck sometimes)…

nothing nada.. which is the worst thing there can possibly be.. there isnt any issue with the hdmi port of anything.. I went to the shop and saw it.. its gone… Ive repaired the xbox before so i know the difference between RROD, or that crappy error black screen thing..

That sucks beyond belief 🙁 darn, gotta be a quicker solution somewhere, even after release as you can do a media black out until you play the game, but that could probably only be enforced for about a week or two, after that it is much harder.
Man that is terrible! I did some searching on GameStop and found a few ideas for you below. It looks like the Xbox 360 is cheapest at $80 and if you have any games you could turn in toward that purchase I think that will also reduce the price.

This certainly tugged my heartstrings a bit, which means this might get wordy. In which case, I apologize in advance!
I still fondly look back on the days of obsessively playing the original MGS demo on the PS1 with my brother while we anxiously awaited the game itself. It certainly made an impression, and I have played every single mainline MGS game that has come out since. I remember a friend of ours buying a PS2 and Zone of the Enders solely for the tanker mission, and us spending untold amounts of time with it. Then playing Snake Eater without the benefit of any prior knowledge of the game other than that it was coming and all of us (my brother, the same friend and I) all coming to the realization that we were actually playing as Big Boss for the first time. We didn’t expect that! And, of course, there was MGS4. I didn’t get to play that one when it first came out because I couldn’t afford a PS3, but I DID get to watch my brother play through it. The thing about it that has always stuck out the most to me is Old Snake’s theme and how beautifully it recalls the main theme in Unforgiven. And it was seeing Ground Zeroes at that same friend’s house that made me bite the bullet and buy my PS4. The promise of The Phantom Pain alone was worth the $400 to me!
The build up of anticipation for a Metal Gear game is something I have never experienced on as grand a scale for other game series, and I think that’s because of Hideo Kojima’s track record. On one hand, I can’t wait for TPP to finally be released and am beyond ready to savor every moment; To see what fan theories pan out, to see what twists and turns the story takes. To see, once and for all, why Big Boss became, in Miller’s own words, ‘a monster.’ On the other hand, barring a miracle, it’s the last time Kojima will be making a Metal Gear game. So for me, this will effectively be the last Metal Gear game ever (whether Konami makes their own or not). Other game series that change creative hands tend to be fine and even flourish, but that is because none have had such a distinctive creative voice as that of Mr. Kojima. Even though he almost always has co-writers, his voice is the driving force behind the series, and without it everything feels wrong to me. Hollow even.
I may have long been ready to play TPP, but I don’t think I’m ready for the WHOLE ride to end on its shoulders!
