Hideo Kojima, Norman Reedus and Del Toro to present at Thursday’s Game Awards

This Thursday The Game Awards 2017 will be held in Los Angeles. This yearly award show, produced by industry veteran Geoff Keighley is meant to celebrate the best games of the past year, as well as provide world premieres for new and upcoming titles. Yesterday, we already learned that one of the presenters will be none other than film maker Guillermo del Toro, who of course is a close friend of Kojima’s and also collaborates on him with his next project Death Stranding. They will be presenting an award together during the show.
A little earlier the legendary game designer already posted on Twitter that he was boarding a plane.

Update: Geoff Keighley has announced that actor Norman Reedus (who plays the protagonist in Death Stranding) will be attending The Game Awards as well.
Seeing Kojima and Del Toro (and Norman Reedus, as it now turns out) on stage is nice enough in itself, but a lot of people will be wondering if this also means we’ll see new footage of Death Stranding during the show. A couple of things do point in the direction. First of all, a new trailer of Death Stranding was revealed at last year’s Game Awards, and Kojima and Keighley have worked together in the past to reveal projects the game designer was working on. Secondly, a few weeks ago Del Toro mentioned in an interview with IGN that he expects Kojima to show him gameplay ‘soon’. Could he be referring to a gameplay reveal at The Game Awards? Lastly, Keighley has put out several teasers for the show over the last couple of days with Kojima or Death Stranding in them, one of them even ending with Kojima saying ‘one more thing’, as if to give the viewer a hint. Do keep in mind though, that nothing has been officially announced, and Kojima and Del Toro could be simply there to present a part of the show (Kojima is also in one of the jury panels).

Btw, Geoff Keighley said that during the show they will have the longest world premier the show has ever seen. Now I wonder who gets the privilege and opportunity to take that much time to reveal something?
Kojima is in the jury for the Student Game Award, maybe they’ll be presenting that one. And then some gameplay. 😛

I actually kinda hope they don’t show DS off immediately after giving out the award. Because then the footage would overshadow the award itself, and that’s just kind of a tasteless thing to do, especially if it’s a student award.
But still, receiving an award from Kojima is kind of worth it. 😛
Yeah, I get that it’s cool if you get an award from Kojima, but if he shows DS gameplay right after, people aren’t gonna remember the award, they’re gonna remember the gameplay reveal. It would be like Kojima hijacking the award to make it about himself. At least that’s how I’d feel if it happened to me.

No worries, they are trained at tuning such protocolar timings. They work extensively on details like that. Maybe I am wrong but to me it feels like the award and trailer / new material will be set at quite distinct points in the show.

And it looks like he is using again the “one camera cutscenes”, for some of them.
which is great IMO. Because one camera cutscenes that he makes are impressive as hell. It is really hard to make them in one shot.
Yes indeed, MGSV inspired me to actually pursue becoming a Filmaker myself, Hideo and Zack Snyder are the 2 people that make me wanna be in this industry, and make art in it.

Just watched the official 4K version of the trailer, and something jumped out at me. At the start of the trailer, we see what looks like a body bag with a black/gold growth growing out of it.

Then, we see that body bag get dissolved by the black goo, briefly leaving an image of the gold part of the growth in the goo.

And then, when the cloaked figure (most likely Mads) descends onto the truck, guess what it has on its face?

My theory is that Mads begins the game as either an ally of Norman/Sam or already dead, and whatever eldritch force is the antagonist takes Mads’ body and resurrects him as their agent.
