Kojima talks about vocal tracks used for past Metal Gear games and trailers

On Twitter, Hideo Kojima looked back at the vocal tracks they have used for the Metal Gear Solid games, and for the trailers.

Listened to MGS & PV tracks. The Best Is Yet To Come→Can’t Say Good Bye to Yesterday→Snake Eater→Way To Fall→Love Theme→Here’s to You→Calling To The Night→Heavens Divide→Koi no Yokushiryoku→Here’s to You→Not Your Kind Of People→Nuclear→Sins of the Father→

Most of this music is used during the credits and / or throughout the games.

While UK band “Starsailor” known as “WAY TO FALL” has stopped performing, James Walsh (Vocal/Guitar) is still releasing his solo album. We featured a female vocalist for ending song of MGS1&2 since those are the fatherhood story of killing parent. MGS3 was also about son surpassing parent, but it is the motherhood story, thus we appointed the male vocalist. From mother (The Boss) to BIGBOSS (son) and the story beyond, from BIGBOSS to Solid (son).

  • I was listening to “the best is yet to come” yesterday. That song is freaking awesome. It just fits so well with the ending of MGS.

I think he is teasing for new OST with the next trailer. I’m excited.

Me too! Kojima picks the best songs ever for his games :D!
If I had to pick a favorite song amongst these all, well that might be impossible. But for ending songs The Best Is Yet To Come and Way To Fall I really, REALLY like.

I’ll put my bets on David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs (released in 1984):

And the lyrics : “With your silicone hump and your ten inch stump” meaning “Your silicon limb and your ten inch horn”.
          Isn’t that Big Boss? 🙂

I hope there’s like a ‘free roam’ option sometime in the game in which you can ride your motorcycle (or horse) aaaaaaaaall around afganistan and south africa while listing to music. Think about it, on a motorcycle at full speed throught the desert, with jeeps, tanks and helicopters chasing you :p kinda like gtv 5 stars pursuit

If there’s no release date spat Taipei then kojimas gone overboard, it’s been such a long wait and the games basically done now.(from the amount of playability and play testing which isn’t messier because it’s already the best thing I’ve seen)

Absolutely love “Can’t Say Goodbye To Yesterday”. I remember the first trailer I saw of Sons Of Liberty drew me in so much and that song was a big part of my experience with it. I still get tingly when I watch the trailer. Especially when Harry Gregson-Williams’ theme kicks in at the end and Snake dives after RAY. Man…

I like this james bond Style music in mgs3. And mgs2’s Tanker Chapter’s sound. Both so cool and fits very well. Since phantom pain features big boss, i’d like to hear some mgs3 style music. Wow man especially in jungle.

MGI is the only thing keeping me alive while waiting for TPP xD, never stop writing Nyxus. I’ve noticed that I spend majority of my free time after work here lol.

Anyway, I honestly can’t wait to see what the next song is, when we already got so many amazing ones in MGSV trailers. What I loved about Kojima-san choosing Nuclear, other than being a superb song is that it’s quite new album from Mike Oldfield.

Last time I think I heard his music was from movie The Exorcist and then the hit song Moonlight Shadow. So Nuclear was surprisingly awesome with fitting lyrics and I hope he surprise me again with next trailer. By choosing some cool song I haven’t heard in a long time or something totally new to me. It was actually the same thing with other trailers too, well at least Not Your Kind Of People…kick ass song :). So excited.

Speaking of trailers. Nyx did you ever see the 1996 debut trailer for MGS1? I had only ever been familiar with the short clips of the higher quality renders of Grey Fox and Revolver Ocelot. But a friend linked me a full trailer including some really early gameplay footage that looked entirely different from the final game.

Thought it was really cool seeing. I have no idea how I had never seen this before today.

Calling to the Night is my favorite song!! Even surpass Snake Eater in some cases which is funny since Portables is a sequel to Snaker Eater!

And yes to Koi no Yokushiryoku! Love Nana Mizuki!! Been listening to her new song Shuumatsu no Love Song from Cross Ange’s new ED 🙂
