Kotobukiya REX Metal Gear Solid 4 Version gets some more pictures, packaging art shown
Kotobukiya’s latest Metal Gear model kit, REX MGS4 Version, was released in Japan earlier this month, and some new photos have appeared online which show the box it comes in and the parts as you receive them. The illustration was made by sci-fi illustrator and mecha anime artist Hidetaka Tenjin. As this is a model kit, you’ll have to assemble the famous bipedal weapon yourself, as well as paint it (though the package does come with a color guide to assist you). Since this is the REX as seen in MGS4, the machine has been ‘partially destroyed’ as a result of Snake’s efforts in MGS1. For more information and pictures of this kit, visit this page.

I can’t remember his name (will find it later), but there is also at least one former Koji-Pro member that work for SIE Tokyo now, so probably somewhere around. I am sure they are not having only meals, hehe ! ;D

Even if chances are low since they did not really communicate for example about what we want in Koji-Tube 6 and now seeing Yano-San, I am now wondering if they’ll keep it for December or if they finally shot some small stuff to show before TGA+PSX. Dunno, not necessarily DS or KP oriented… But they seemed so busy that I would not be surprised if they publish nothing on YT..

Interesting that this image also lists Outer Haven. Which ones do you think should be on the list? Haven, Gekko and Tripod as well? This is the list so far, but what exactly constitutes to being a ‘metal gear’?

Good question, so far a nuclear warhead enabled AI or pilotable / controllable bi-pedal mecha, was the kind of description that was sticking for a long time, but since bots like Gekko or MK-II are also considered as MGs but without nukes, the list become hereby quite exhaustive…
Outer and Arsenal also have AI… Not simple.
I guess the key can be in how we formulate the question then, like :
“Which Metal Gear technology / design is your favorite ?”
If you want to ask it this way, then I think you can include all of them.
BTW, we forgot Battle and Walker Gears, Basilik, Kodoque, Gander, Chaioth Ha Qadesh…
If we restrain to Solid, or a specific group, canon or not, we may unfortunately lock out other awesome Yoji’s MG designs, what do you think ? ;D
Yeah probably better to have some sort of boundary. Maybe just the final boss machines from Kojima’s games? So that would mean TX-55, Metal Gear D, REX, RAY, Shagohod, Peace Walker, ZEKE and Sahelanthropous.

Gekko in that image is small but was amazing in MGS4. I really liked the idea of smaller Metal Gear’s not just gigantic mecha’s.
Smaller ? If I had to choose I would strongly hesitate between MK-II, REX or Arsenal. Pupa’s fight was a cool moment too, still have in mind this weird kid voice / music…
Yeah, Gekko just completely rocks. This “cut”-scene with Raiden fighting them + Vamp… I was purely hallucinating, hehe ! ;D

xD Tripods were so cool. So glad they thought about including them in the poster ! 😀 Their original mechanics make them a really unique type of robot in video games.

True, they really did their best on it. And it’s one of the more affordable premium packages too.
Makes me think about the past and the art of packaging a product when all were saying that Jobs was a genius at packaging Apple ones, speaking about the process of preparing the costumer to have the best unboxing experience and stuff… Boss + Yoji are not bad at all with this sport apparently ! ;D
