Metal Gear Survive final box art tells us a few things: always online, 16+ PEGI rating and Xbox One X support
Konami has released the final pack shot for Metal Gear Survive, and it tells us a few things. First of all, it confirms the game requires an internet connection to play, something that was rumored a few months ago when mention of this appeared on the official website. Because it did not specify whether this was about the online co-op mode, or the game as a whole, we tried to get confirmation from Konami but they weren’t able to provide an answer. But with the release of this pack shot it does seem that not just the co-op, but the entire game requires an internet connection, and is essentially an always online game. This probably has to do with the fact that your progress carries over between both modes.
Secondly, it seems that PEGI (Pan European Game Information), the organization that rates games in Europe much like the ESRB in the US, has established a final age rating, and it’s actually lower than their provisional rating. They gave the game a rating of 16 and up, which is lower than the 18+ rating for MGSV or the Mature rating of the ESRB.
Lastly, the Xbox One pack shot confirms HDR support and some sort of enhancements on Xbox One X, the high specced system Microsoft released in November of last year.
Those who played MGSV at launch may remember the annoying server issues that caused the game’s menu to become drastically slower, so having a game require you to be online is kind of worrying. On the other hand, the servers probably won’t be as overloaded as with that game. We will see how things go for the beta when it starts later this month.

See you on the battlefield next week
…NOT! 😛
Alright Georgie, see you around then.

So it looks like we are being in an underwater dimention.
Our Sea and our water..we are The Underwater Squad!

I have a bad feeling about this…
I don’t like the idea of no standalone mode to load the game.. Solo should always be bootable (!?)..
And PEGI 16 means we will kill only zombies, or what ? ..
No bloodbath for you, just zombie goo

Aliens were confirmed in the ESRB
Maybe if you go against other Humans you can’t use lethal weapons, just this:

Well strangely enough MGS3 also got a 16+ PEGI rating (while it’s one of the more brutal ones in the series), but MGS3 Subsistence got an 18+ rating…

Mmmh.. Maybe PEGI finally thought they first misevaluated MGS3, and took their best shot at correcting the rating with subsistence afterwards.
MGS3 is indeed pretty hard core under many aspects..
Always amazed to contemplate your impressive MGS3 wall… ;3
You should have put the metallic Shagohod replica on top of the premium box for the photo.. ;D
If not taking into account my HD Col copy, I only had the one you got signed by Kojima-San..
From whom are the 2 other signatures, btw ?
Yoji Shinkawa and Yumi Kickuchi. Got is signed during the MGS4 world tour in 2008: http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=19848
Hard to believe that was nearly 10 years ago…
10 years ago but pretty nice and rare group shot !
Nice, thanks for the story, I missed this article.. Is he actually signing your box on the photo ? .. Awesome ! ..
Yes he is! Photos are bit crappy though because it was an old camera.
Wooah / Coooool… And photos are quite good enough even for a old camera to immortalize the moment…
And lovely Kickuchi-Chan… Gloups.. Her mesh in the game is so impressively close… Must have been something to have her in real in front of you… ;D
Yep. Got this signed as well:

Magic Monaco is next 24 Feb… If I manage to grab Yoji, I will try to beg him to quickly sketch main curves in chrome like ink of this MGS2 box art on the PS3’s ref tool, and get something as close as possible as the following picture…
That would help me to wait for when Boss will add his own seal to the whole thing hopefully someday…

Yumi Kikuchi signature!!!
I wish she would appear more. It doesn’t seem she’s part of the new Kojima Production 🙁
Ayako seems to be Kojima’s assistant throughout the years.

If you actually pay for this schlock, then I truly feel bad for your degree of intellect. This is the equivalent of digital diarrhea.
You played it?
Always Online? Yeah I can see this going the way of this game:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/44/MAG_%28video_game%29.jpg
And with servers for games like Gravity Rush 2 having it’s online servers shutdown only a year after release from low sales, if this game doesn’t do well, the people who bought it might have their servers shutdown because it won’t be financially viable to keep them online.
MAG… Memories of it’s reveal… Dunno why Sony have not tried to polish the concept of it. Was a neat idea back in it’s days.
Online servers will eventually shutdown for sure, but Metal Gear is a good brand, so there will be players for it at launch.
And they are doing Online by game design I guess. If the game will work it’s going to be good and maybe Konami will continue it’s concept (which I doubt).
The fact that they basically dropped support for MGO and FOB stuff doesn’t bode well for an always online game. Let’s hope that doesn’t become the case for Survive.
Except that was more of a case of the Studio no longer technically existing and the project lead leaving
Hardly an excuse for Konami to drop support of their own products.
Except how do you support something with no real direction or team behind it?
If you can put together a team to develop a spin-off co-op game, you can set a team to handle an online component (which resemble at best a third of the whole project) of a launched game.
Not if you’re not really deeply interested in continuing it and would rather move on.
Off topic, but what games are you guys looking forward to this year?

For this year? Well, games that are officially confirmed for 2018 …
From least to greatest, here my most anticipated 2018 games:
10. Detroit: Become Human
I mean, these type of games are very rare.
And this one’s looking great!
9. Vampyr
From the devs who created Life is Strange?
Of course this is anticipated!
8. Dragon Ball FighterZ
I need a new fighter to my Tekken 7.
I’m fan of the Dragon Ball franchise.
Put 2 & 2 together.
7. Metal Gear Survive
Well, we’re all Metal Gear fans, right?
Here I am, waiting for this one.
6. A Way Out
Looks very Uncharted-like!
A great game to play with your best pal.
5. Skulls & Bones
I’m a big fan of ACIV: Black Flag!
And of historical pirates (leaning more towards the fantasy aspect)
And so of course this one was gonna appeal to me!
4. Marvel’s Spider-Man
The one to dethrone Batman?
Looking like so!
3. God of War
It just…
An adventure awaits us, lads.
2. Red Dead Redemption II
Sequel to one of my favorite experiences in gaming in all my gaming life?
Gimme!
1. Days Gone
You know, my fav. title is The Last of Us, and Days Gone looks to be a worthy sequel (even though it isn’t, it’s its own title). Their similarities were very striking, and so perhaps that’s why this is my most anticipated. The acting, the way the character reacts to his surroundings, beautifully crafted open-world, and the zombies are unlike any other games we’ve seen before. What other game has a horde coming at you like that? What? Left 4 Dead? Please, that is some arcade joke of a zombie game. No. This, this is something special. This is a vet studio on their backs. This is their final shot to deliver their best; to keep themselves making afloat with the big boys. They’re giving all they got. You can tell, by their trailers, they went all out. I’m anticipating the hell out of it!
Yakuza 6
Bayonetta 1/2 Switch
Final Fantasy XII ZE Steam
Soulcalibur VI
Monster Hunter World
Code Vein
Ni No Kuni II
Spider-Man Insomniac
Kirby Star Alliance
Catherine Full Body
Shadow of the Colossus Remaster
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. I also hope for an announcement of the next main installment and a Western release of Yakuza 2 Kiwami.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Detroit: Become Human, if it keeps its promises, even though I’m not exactly a fan of David Cage.
Any upcoming gameplay and story footage for Death Stranding^^
Cant wait to try it out
This suddenly came up on tv here in the Netherlands (the program is a newscast for children): https://jeugdjournaal.nl/artikel/2211480-hoe-is-het-om-te-acteren-in-een-game.html
And Hideo Retweeted it.
Guillermo del Toro just won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Director: “I’m short, I’m fat, I don’t have a problem.”
And The Shape of Water just won Best Picture.
GOD DAMN IT… AHAHHAHA! This is good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4CTy4i7gmc
Kizuna Ai is the best.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcO_U9Jceps
I often go back to this video and am amazed at how genuine the reaction was, because it was the very first. Everyone else who got it was already spoiled by it or had to follow instructions. This is still very entertaining.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH0thrqa2Ww
The full stream video is even better, because it shows that only 3 people were watching the reveal when she got it. (2:08:47 for mobile users)
