Metal Gear Survive Open Beta available today
The beta for Metal Gear Survive is now available for download, for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. From January 18th to 21st, you’ll be able to try out 3 co-op missions from the game across 2 maps. Daily missions will be available as well.
On PlayStation 4 you won’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription, but on Xbox One Xbox Live Gold is required to play online.
Participating in the beta will give you certain rewards for the full game: a FOX HOUND nameplate, Metal Gear REX head accessory and a bandana for your character.
Note that save data will not carry over to the full game. The game itself will launch February 22nd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Feeling conflicted about Survive. I said a long time ago when this thing was announced that i’d wait for bargain bin sale. but I just watched some gameplay and it’s… underwhelming, to say the least. It’s not exciting. It’s literally just trying to survive some MGS style zombies. Looks pretty boring. That’s me being as objective as possible.
Yeah. I can’t seem to find anything that would catch my interest with this game. If not for it’s name, this would be a game that would not be on my radar for it isn’t my thing. Also the Kojima VS survive MEMES are just too good lol

So far the best description i saw of survive “It looks like the third best version of nine different games”
I’ll defiantly try it out. Gonna see if it’s worth a buy based on it personally ‘-‘7 seems like it would be like a arcade mode thing for now and then based on the one video I’ve ever seen
Loaded it already can’t wait to get home from work! 😀
Is PS+ going to be required for the final retail version?
Most likely yes, if your pc is decent you can get it on steam. My old pc was able to run TPP with a graphics card from 2011. It beats wasting your money on ps plus.
DigitalFoundry has looked at a build of the game from a Konami preview event. It’s not the same content as the beta, but it does give a look at the game’s single-player campaign.
The PS4 Pro version has a resolution of 1440p, with some framerate drops down to the 50s and mid-40s in some scenes. However, if you drop the system resolution down to 1080p, the game instead runs at native 1080p and most of the framerate issues are resolved.

So I decided to queue up Survive on my PS4. Guess I’ll try it out later and be even more objective (choke) as I can be… I will update later.
Tried it. Bored me to death. Uninstalled it. Controls are meh. UI is very busy and confusing. Not clever. Zombie waves just made me think of tower defense mobile games. Recycled assets from MGSV is just sad. That’s my first and last impression of the game. Should have gone with my gut on this and not waste the bandwidth I guess:

I’m uploading a video of me playing 20 minutes of it. I could NOT figure out how to pull up the fucking Options menu to invert my controls, haha. And yes, it is pretty boring so far. Objective opinion.
Konami sent a tweet about that:

I would have liked if there were an Options tab when pressing the Options button on my PS4. But thx Nyxus.
just hold down the left side of the touchpad. just like in mgs v.

A RAY… That’s a scoop..
So, not only does this piece of shit have zombies and parallel dimensions, it also has time traveling!
What’s next? Superpowered mutants? Sparkly Vamparies? Cybernetic Kaijus? Transforming robot Aliens? Man-Eating baby demons from a secret dark realm who can only be killed in a rythm game battle?!
Well, it already has wormholes, which theoretically allow time travel. That may be why there’s stuff from later in the timeline like the DD equipment and the RAYs.
They shouldn’t even have bothered to create a “story” for the game if in the end it’s just a giant salad of any element Konami wants to throw on it lol
Metal Gear Ray on Fox Engine looks nice!
But man why not in the main game 🙁
Because the main game is in 1984, but with this one you can be creative as much as possible.
Isn’t this one still in 1984ish? Just put Ray on a FOB event or side ops, no one would mind that
Raiden was in a mission during GZ.
ahhhh my heart would explode fighting ray in base game
Neat easter egg, but it loses points by not playing Rules of Nature whenever you summon the RAY.
I’ve only played one match, the easiest one, alone and it was kinda hard, because I didn’t have anything and didn’t know how to put up the walls to defend me, and waves kept coming and coming, I’ll have to give it another try with friends, it kinda bothers me that we don’t have the scope/binoculars although in the coop part of it, there isn’t a use for it I guess, I just hope it is there for the single player for whenever I play it.
Well, I played it for myself … I came in with no real expectations (really, who has?), just some excitement because it bears ‘Metal Gear’ in its title. It is indeed enjoyable for what it is and nothing more. Honestly, what else could we have expected since its announcement? The gameplay is literally MGSV’s gameplay with added assets. There’s not much else to it. It is in no way “bad” or “terrible”. That’s the same as saying Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare is terrible because … what – it’s a byproduct of RDR? Oh, & a quick note, how can someone say the “gameplay of Survive sucks,” but then turn around and say MGSV’s gameplay is great? Would that not fall under the category of an oxymoron?
Anyway, for some odd reason, it reminds me of Resident Evil. Lol. Yeah, I know “zombies”, but it isn’t just that. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Also, when you look up to the sky … It’s as if you’re submerged underwater … Hmm … now where else have we seen such a concept? Anyone has an idea? I’ll wait … Now, I may or may not get it during launch, depends how long ‘A Way Out’ is and if ‘God of War’ sweeps in too close to Survive’s release date. Regardless, eventually it’s going to fall into my hands. I have to platinum it as it’s a custom of mine ever since trophies were introduced to the Metal Gear games.
To those having a difficult decision on purchasing it, ask yourself, why buy the game? Is because you are just really really into the Metal Gear franchise? Is it because the beta proved it’s actually fun? Keep asking yourself these questions. If their answers are unsatisfying, don’t waste your money. Instead, either buy it when the price goes down or try your luck and don’t buy it into it becomes a free PS+ game.
I found it quite enjoyable. I just hope the pc version doesnt get delayed.
That’s my 20 minute gameplay of survive so far. I was just kinda walking around and waiting for things to happen. I encountered some zombies and got foraged for items. Nothing too exciting.

OT: Anyone else pick up the NeoGeo: A Visual History artbook? Really fantastic stuff. It’s not just a bunch of pictures of the consoles or the boxart; there’s a ton of great interviews, rare concept and promo art, and even some scans of the original patents. If you’re at all interested in 90s-era arcade games, I can’t recommend it enough.
It also makes me really impatient for that ludicrous 800-page MGS artbook (which apparently got pushed back to June?). Boy, that’s gonna be amazing.
Oh, so it’s coming out on MGS4’s tenth anniversary.
A friend of mine had the SNK. ;D A pure dope, but games were 2 to 3 times more expensive than on other consoles, so the game park was quite modest.
Although this console was the one taking us the closest possible to big coin-op systems in terms of perfs.. The cartridge were so big compared to the console that we were not even sure if most of the console’s hardware was in fact in each game cartridge, hehe (like coin-op, the game itself was almost the console).
Well, it wasn’t really the hardware in the cartridges. The book explains that the cartridges were so big because they held significantly more storage than other game console cartridges. For example, the largest Super Nintendo cartridges held 48 Mbits of data, which is equivalent to only 6 megabytes. Neo Geo cartridges could hold up to 330 Mbits (41.25 megabytes) of data, and eventually they managed to cram in 716 Mbits (89.5 megabytes). They were so large that they had to cram two separate circuit boards into the cart.
It’s amazing to consider just how far technology has come in the past 20 years. My phone is smaller than a Neo Geo cartridge, but it has significantly greater processing power than the system itself and can hold over 700 times as much data as even the biggest cart.
ROM memory was probably the main reason for the size, but cartridges were far from just simply holding the game at this time.
Cartridges in general had the particularity of providing additional and drastically different hardware components (often co-processors) from one game to another on the cartridge side.
This was happening already on older domestic computers like MSX by the way, where some Konami cartridges would sometimes come with extra chips such as the SCC, for example.
The hardware was evolving on the cartridge side as well for improving various type of processing with the help of custom chips.
Coin-op consoles on the other hand had sometimes either separate logic and ROM boards, or a unique board for both, but we were commonly agreeing that the whole was a console plugged in a suitable cabinet containing the rest of the controller hardware.
Yeah it is amazing to see our current systems offer indeed a incredible amount of processing power and storage, with just the small drawback of being more fragile than older system due to the miniaturization of the components.
So i played the game with 2 of my brothers yesterday and i gotta say it was mad fun!
The game is exactly as i expected it to be and then some.
I rly don’t get all the ppl moaning “this is not Metal Gear Solid” … well guess what its Metal Gear Survive, like Rising its a completely different game just that this one borrows engine and assets from tpp.
Def will get this when it comes it. (prbly used tho)
Me and my friends will probably get it when it’s cheap too
Because of the Konami hate people choose to ignore the fact that this is nothing more than a spinoff. Enjoy the game and forget about those other people, they can go play death stranding in 10 years.
10 years? What makes you think that?
I watched Outer Heaven channel streaming it on twitch yesterday and that was enough for me about this game. While it seemed fun in the stream, I wouldn’t see myself enjoying a game like this for a long time. There’s plenty of zombie horde games already out there.
yeah that’s understandable, im currently enjoying it from the beta but I can see it getting boring depending on how varied it can get, gonna keep a eye on post release to see how it feels then.
I played the game and will say that at this stage it works. At best it works because of brilliant MGSV mechanics. But that is not an important part about this game.
Konami has a historical chance to turn this game to a big hit if they will make a battle royale game out of it similar to Fortnite (Epic Games turned it’s own zombie game to a battle royale game and it worked brilliantly for them) or PUBG with Metal Gear theme. If Konami won’t do it, than this is going to be a huge flop for them.
They have a historical chance to make a huge game out of it, selling tons of copies. They have a smooth engine and tools to do this.
Now the most important question is…
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Do they care?
I’d skip that faster than a cut scene on a big boss run

To everyone who wants to play P.T, or better do it on PC, now you can. There are two prototypes in the works thanks to two modders.

O_O
It’s been alright, not great but nowhere near the lazy copy paste people said it was.
Flame arrows and walker gears make that first mission a joke.
The daily mission today is tough, the rewards have been solid buliding and if they make the modifiers on the daily mission more common and hopefully let us make a mission to share, then the longevity will be there.
Got an A on my first solo try of the easy mission in Afghanistan’s map and an S on my first team play. normal is bit tougher on Afghanistan. The levels are truly do matter as trying to tackle the Africa based levels are fucking nuts if your even 5 levels lower than the recommended 20.
Team cohesion is required at the 2nd and 3rd waves unless you’re
Customization on the gameplay side especially with the pouches on the harness and vest make a notable difference.
There are Africa based maps too?
Yes, the digger equipment is near the center of it around a ship based off the one you find Eli on, except it’s sunken into a Carter and surrounded by dug out paths like the mining area you free the African boys who give you diamonds
*off-topic*
2 more days and i shall return home for a semi-short rest time (11 days).
But more importantly i bumped into an upcoming PS4 exclusive JRPG i have never herd of before.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=odAeEqQTIrU
How come this went under the radar for most people?
And hey, it’s being co-developed (or published? I can’t tell) by the team that’s remastering ZOE2 for PSVR! Glad to know they at least have some experience working with the PS4.
This looks pretty cool, too. I did a little digging, and it turns out it’s a spin-off of a Japanese mobile game that isn’t very popular in the West. That, and it also hasn’t been announced for Western release.
If anything games like Persona 5 proved that Western releases pay off. Hopefully we will get an official announcement.
Well, Persona 5 is also part of a series that’s fairly popular (by JRPG standards) in the West. Granblue Fantasy is almost completely unknown over here, so it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to localize the game.

When someone asks me “Why are you getting hyped over some game you know almost nothing about?”
