Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes PC screenshot comparison and setting options

During Episode 28 of Kojima Station, the staff talked a bit about the upcoming PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. They showed screenshot comparisons (comparing the PC version with the PlayStation 4 version) on which you can see some of the additions, such as the enhanced number of light sources. The shots below are stills taken from the show.

Also, these are the settings you can play around with: Windowed mode, resolution, display, v-sync, frame rate, model detail, textures, texture filtering, shadows, lighting, screen filtering, effects.

The PC version will be released on Steam December 18th.

Update: Two direct feed screens from the PC version:

So the conclusion ive got from these pics if you have this game on PS4… wont me rly missing out much on PC (IMO)… but we need more (HD) screenshots for proper comparison.. right now it doesnt look that much of an upgrade to persuade me to buy it on PC…

    • MichaelPayneV

Actually the difference is HUGE, when in Fox Engine Lighting matter the most, and the PC Version has way better lighting, the people that will get it on PS4 only are the people that either have just a PS4, or the Sony Fan-Boys that will refuse to get it on PC and have a better Single Player experience, because of where the Fan-Base is, and because of Tradition.

Yes, people have forgot to play Game for fun, people now play Game and chose platforms depending on the Fan-Base and Popularity, and not the actual Single Player Experience, and is sad.

Yes it is, we are people, we are not made out off Facts, so we have opinions as well, i mean that’s what makes us Humans, our Subjective nature.

      • Guest

I highly doubt they will fix that cuz its the same engine….unless they did some changes to the engine or the game itself to make that possible i dont see that happening even tho current gen consoles are capable of handling that …. as for moding… Kojima said that he plans to give the FOX engine for educational purpuses on collages to give the new game devs more options in both learning and creativity….but he didnt said anything about giving it to public so the game is 50/50 chance of getting it mod friendly …unless some college scrub *borrows* it for a while ;P then its a different story….i rly hope to see moding happend on PC tho…thats the only element to get me interested on buying it on a PC ^^

    • Zero

But i must admit that reflection in the puddle made me jizz me pants ^^….aside from that nothing major has been changed from PS4 version….il keep my PS3 copy for now ….hopefully they will fix the drawing distance for current gen consoles in TPP (fingers crossed)

      • MrVux007

cmon dude !!! moding will and must happend on PC… i need to see Quiet naked———er ….. 😀

          • MrVux007

Ill drink to that …..(you perv) 😛

  • César H. Sandoval

Amazing! but the PS4ver still looks good enough, so that’s great.

    • MrVux007

I also notice some new objects near the tents on the left…..or is that better drawing distance in general

  • well this is great, megoing from ps3 to PC is going to be amazing!

    • LukesAlike

      Hah, same.

  • Shalashaska Has Landed..

Looks awesome. The brighter lights and puddles that show reflection looks spectacular.

I also noticed the draw distance is longer with the trees, cactus, grass, etc.. Which means there should be minimum pop-ins. It’s always the little things like these, that gives it such a more desirable flavor lol.

I’m almost jealous. If I had a stronger PC, I would definitely purchase this to add with my PS4 copy.

Also, will the dev kit be fully accessible? I can almost visualize all the crazy mods the fans are gonna impose in this game lol. Hell, I’m sure the very first thing the “distressed” people are gonna do, before even installing the game, is go straight to creating a David Hayter voice mod and/or Snake’s bandanna mod.

    • you can put that MGS4 bandana file that has been flying since people ripped castlevannia LOS… or the one from MGS4… but I doubt thae we will get a full blown level editor even a year after TPP..
i would want a “METAL GEAR SANDBOX” thing just to mess around

  • MichaelPayneV

The only thing i’m kinda disappointed is the rain, it looks like is less dense then on the PS4 version, which i don’t understand, i mean they should have just used the Weather Effects from the PAX 2012 Demo.

    Anyway, looks great.

    • It’s probably due to the increased light distance, it makes the scene more bright which seems to hide the rain a bit.

Though the compression is being unfair to the rain in both shots.

      • MichaelPayneV

That as well, actually we should judge when we get a PC Trailer at least.

  • TracedInAir

Own it on PS4 and still getting it day 1 on Steam! My GTX 970 is ready!

  • PrinceHeir

    Looking awesome

  • Fraaancis

  • No Place For Hayter

*DRROOOOOOL* I love the reflection in the water in the last picture

    • MichaelPayneV

      Yeah, and the Lighting.

The PC Version looks like the Love Childhood between the PAX 2012 Demo and the Final PS4 Version.

  • Hanna-Mari

I was just giving up on PS4 version ‘cuz this student doesn’t have money to buy PS4 console. But these goddamn pictures. Fäck.

  • MichaelPayneV

Thanks for the Up-Date, now i see the Rain, looks really close to the PAX 2012 rain.

    Thank you @Nyxus:disqus !

  • MichaelPayneV

1 thing i don’t like about the Settings, and i Hate this in Dragon Age Inquisition as well, is why put Depth of Field and Motion Blur on the same Slide called “Effects” why can’t i have Depth of Field without the motion Blur?

    • Big_Boss88

Is DA:Inquisition good :D? I’m thinking of buying it next week, because hungry for some new good RPG game. Or wait a sec hmm :P, when was the release date for it lol o_O…

  • MichaelPayneV

That would be sick…i mean even GTA IV has this feature.

  • DiamondSnake

Can you post a ps3 version picture?I already have it on ps3 and I want to compare it side by side

    • MichaelPayneV

I can give you a PS4 vs PC Comparison, and it looks better on PC then on PS4, so guess what the difference will be between PS3 and PC.

  • MichaelPayneV
  • C10
  • Big_Boss88

Looks very tasty :D. I especially really like the reflection from the water and that increased lighting etc.

  • XIFF-5

Wondering if Snake’s hair shadow appears or not on PC version.
If not, then they made it on purpose for some reason involved in the story O,O!

    • Johnny Zombrex

Old Snake and Ocelot didn’t have shadows in MGS4’s final showdown.

      • “We’re shadows in the shape of men!”… they ARE the shadows!

        • Johnny Zombrex

          He’s a shadow.
One that no light will shine on.

Why perhaps the new game is called PHANTOM Pain because they’re all just shadows.

Suffering severe hairloss from chemo therapy.

  • MichaelPayneV

Looks like the TGS 2013 Night Time was indeed the PC Version after all. Notice how this Demo has the Screen Space Reflections feature missing from any Console version, including the PS4 version.

I feel bad for you, the PS4 Players that won’t get to experience this awesome feature that adds immersion by making the Game look more Grounded and Realistic, and i’m not being Sarcastic, i really feel sorry for you, the people who will get MGSV on PS4 and not on PC.

    • Ken Shiro

I can’t be bothered with the PC version, and the reason why is: for me gaming on a PC is uncomfortable.
Another major reason is, I will play MG Online alot, and I think that most online players will be on PS4. With probably many familiar names from MGO2 (MGS4 online). Matter of fact, I see a lot of familiar names on the Ground Zeroes rankings on PS4. And not to mention my friend’s list, most of which I met on MGO.

This doesn’t mean I won’t consider buying MGS for PC though, If I were to get a new laptop or something then I might actually get MGSV:PT for PC. I doubt I’ll get GZ though.

      • MichaelPayneV

Why is it uncomfortable, and please don’t give me the Controller an TV Argument.

“This doesn’t mean I won’t consider buying MGS for PC though, If I were to get a new laptop or something then I might actually get MGSV:PT for PC. I doubt I’ll get GZ though.”

No offense, but you’d have to be Crazy to even consider a Laptop for Gaming, and not a Proper PC.

        • MrVux007

the man is obliged to his opinion mate…learn to respect other people opinions, just cuz you think Pc is better doesnt mean other people think that way….and also there are some good gaming laptops, they might not run at ULTRA setting but that doesnt make the person less of a gamer then the person who has High end PC-s

          • MichaelPayneV

Indeed, everyone has the right o their opinions, but that doesn’t make their opinions right.

And some laptops may run Games at Ultra Now, but they are expensive as fukk, and as Consoles, after 1 or 2 years you won’t get Ultra.

          • MrVux007

˝Indeed, everyone has the right o their opinions, but that doesn’t make their opinions right.˝i wont even begin to say how arrogant and cheeky that statement was…

          • MichaelPayneV

˝i wont even begin to say how arrogant and cheeky that statement was…”

Yet you did, by saying that you won’t say it, you basically said it.

          • MrVux007

and as for consoles…..are u in programming bussines….do you develop games …… ??? cuz it seems that u are….the consoles are what they are and im sure that most of us didnt buy consoles to get ultra high end PC graphics cuz that aint possible for this generation…we bought them to play video games at gergoeus high settings for 5-7 years… does that make them inferior to PC-s cuz they cant run some games in the future on ultra …absulutely not,the matter of preference will ALWAYS play the role of wich platform gamers like and why…..that is why consoles made a blast in the sales…..people didnt buy them cuz off their specs but becouse of their preference……is it a wrong preference? it is to people who keep claiming that PC is the best place(the best experiance) for games….and you fit the profile of those people perfectly 🙂

          • MichaelPayneV

You know what, just forget it, because frankly even when i’m trying to be kind, and wish that you got the same quality as us, even then you take it as an offense, so we better end it here.

      • MrVux007

Trust me mate…your better off ignoring this kind of posts/comments regarding PC-s *superiority* of MichaelPayneV aka venom snake, the man is well known Pc fanboy in this site and most of his comments are either how PC is better(the best platform to play it on) then the consoles or how people only buy consoles cuz of traditions and fanboyism…(wich is primitive way of thinking to say the least) the difference between the two version for this game is there but its not mind blowing difference…he dissregards other people opinion who actually prefer PS4 or maybe even XboxOne to PC…. and yes i agree most of the people will play MG online on PS4 and i cant wait to play the game with my buddies aswell, and im absulutely sure the experiance will be mind blowing and that me buying a PS4 for this game will be damn worth it …..ill leave my PC for Witcher III tho 🙂

        • MichaelPayneV

Sorry to ruin your dreams…out of context, doesn’t make any sense.

Anyway, just to let you know, i’m not a PC Fan-Boy, i’m just aware that PC is where you’ll get the proper MGSV Single Player Experience, also don’t hate Sony, because PS2 is where i started serious Gaming on, with Games like MGS3, GTA: San Andreas, Red Dead Revolver etc. but in time i realized that PC is objectively better for Gaming, so i moved to PC waiting for a reason to get back to Sony Gaming along side PC Gaming, and still waiting for a reason to buy a PS4, MGSV was that reason till Hideo revealed the PC Version, now may, just maybe Uncharted 4 will get me back in to Sony Gaming.

Also to prove you that i’m not a PC Fan-Boy, talking about Konami, i’m aware that Consoles is where to get the Proper Pro Evolution Soccer Experience, alright, so don’t accuse me of being a PC Fan-Boy, just because i’m aware that PC is where to get the Proper MGSV Single Player Experience the way Hideo wanted us to experience.

    • MrVux007

if you rly think that the real fans play MGS for graphics then you mate rly should feel sorry for urself……

      • MichaelPayneV

Facepalm: You missed the point, is not about the Fans themselves, but about Hideo Kojima Vision, about what he wanted his fans to experience with MGSV, but couldn’t do due to the PS4 limitations.

Also i said that i feel Sorry you, the main Metal Gear Fans that you won’t get to experience MGSV the way Hideo wanted you to experience it, and i clearly said that i’m being serious, and that i’m not happy about it, since again YOU are the majority of the Metal Gear Fan-Base, and then YOU are “attacking” me for feeling bad for you, for showing you where to experience Hideo’s Original Vision, really?

PS: Also is *really and *yourself, not *rly and *urself, those are not words.

        • MrVux007

again your talking like you know Hideo Kojima ….i dont know how hideo kojima wants things…but it seems you do …and i didnt miss ur point mate, you message was cristall clear….facepalm indeed, and if u dont understand some english slangs and/or like to play grammar nazi, thats ur thing….im not attacking anyone i just dont like bullcrap talk ur trying to pull off during couple of months….im more then happy with my choice of platform and it is RIGHT in my point of view,if you dont like it then just ignore mine and other opinions made by other people….

          • MichaelPayneV

For fukk sake, all i wanted to do was to show that i care about YOU, my fellow Playstation Metal Gear Community, that i wish your PS4 version of MGSV was as good as our PC version of MGSV from a Graphics point, like saying to have something similar to TLOU on PS4, being able to cycle between 60fps and 30fps, and at 30fps to have more Graphical Features enabled, like the “Screen Space Reflexions, better Shadows etc, but unfortunately even when i’m trying to be kind, and basically feeling bad that you won’t have the same experience as us, i still get hate from people like you that are getting angry when seeing PC in a comment.

To make it very clear, all i want to do is to show that i care about my fellow Metal Gear Play Station Fans, and that i wish you got the same quality as us, on PC, so i beg you, have “some” Respect, repeat “some” not full respect for your fellow PC Community, is that too much to ask, not being treated with offense when we’re trying to help you?

That’s all i have to say, if not you, hopefully the rest of the Metal Gear Playstation Community will understand what are my intentions.

          • MrVux007

Dont worry we understood you quite well 🙂

          • MichaelPayneV

            Then why that attitude?

          • MrVux007

cuz i dissaprove of your way of making statements, dissaproving other peoples opinion and claiming the PC as the best way to play this game (wich is ok,right until you start commenting on other peoples comments that dont rly see much of a upgrade or if they prefer consoles to PC….that is you start either forcing your own opinion or if that fails you start calling people either traditionalist, consoles fanboys or casuals)….i dont dissaprove of people claiming that gaming on PC is the best or PC is place to play MGSV the best way….but i dissaprove of those people when they start spamming *the platform propaganda* as i like to call it,or when they feel butthurt that majority isnt rly mind blown about PC *upgrades* for this game…my attitude wouldnt be like this towards you if you knew how to limit your opion for urself instead claiming it as the RIGHT ONE and trying to persuade other people to have the same opinion

          • MichaelPayneV

I’m not doing platform Propaganda, O.K. i’m aware that Consoles are the place to get the Best Experiences in Games like Mortal Kombat, Fifa, PES, basically Sport and Fighting Games that don’t have a hige focus on Graphics, but when talking about Third Person Shooter, especially Metal Gear, Yes, i series known for it’s world, Characters and Story, but also popular for it’s Graphics, for always being years in future in terms of Graphics, then there is no doubt that PC is where to get The Best Metal Gear Single Player Experience.

Believe it or not Hideo Kojima is a Visionary Director, just like Stanley Kubrick and Zack Snyder, in his Games like in their Movies what matters the most is the Image Quality, the Filters, the way it looks, and because Hideo is a Video Game Director, that extends to Graphics, Graphics that help Hideo create the Cinematic Experience the way he wants.

So NO, Graphics is ones of the most important aspects of Metal Gear, and even if the Series has Great Story and Characters, at the end of the Day, whether you like i or not Metal Gear is a Visual Experience focused on the Cinematography (Camera Placement, Timing for Slow motions scenes, Lighting positions etc) and the Graphics that have a huge contribution to the Cinematography, more then the Gameplay itself that is good enough to give it substance as a Game.

          • Charlie Gilligan

            Zack Snyder?
Hmmmmmmmmm……………………………..Why do people hate him so much? 🙁

          • MichaelPayneV

Is because people have wrong expectations from him, he is not an Actor Director, just like Kubrick and Kojima he is a Visionary Director, his Skills are in the Visuals and the Image itself.

Ex. Tell me 1 Zack Snyder, or Kubrick Movie that is Bad from a Visual Point, answer, None.

          • Charlie Gilligan

MOS and Watchmen were pretty great movies.

          • MichaelPayneV

I know, especially Watchmen which was written by Solid Snake Himself, David Hayter.

          • MrVux007

Welcome to the minority(weather u like it or not the graphics is not
the most important aspects of MGS it was always 1.Story 2.Gameplay 3.Graphics 4.Soundtrack) i do know who Hideo is ,but i sure didnt hear him say that the PC is is where to get The Best Metal Gear Single Player Experience. nor do i know what he generally thinks…..and yes those kind of statements u make do fit the platform propaganda….especially when it comes to disregarding OTHER peoples platform preference…..

          • MichaelPayneV

Point is, Hideo Kojima is a Visionary Game Director, therefore the Focus on his Games is the Cinematography, which also includes they way the image itself looks aka The Graphics, The Number of Lighting Sources, the Rendering, along side Lighting and Camera Positions, and then comes the Soundtrack, and then Comes the Gameplay.

Like i said, Gameplay is Great, but becauseis the Focus, but because of the Huge Development time and Attention to every aspect of the Game, including the Gameplay.

And no, i didn’t say that Graphics are the Most important, i said that Graphics are part of the Most important part of Metal Gear, and that is the Cinematography, which included the Graphics, so No, Graphics isn’t the Last or most Important part of Metal Gear, but Part of the Cinematography of Metal Gear, and don’t say that Graphics have no impact on the Cutscenes themselves, that better Graphics can’t change the mood in Certain Cutscenes.

No, i’m not saying PC is where to get The Best Gameplay Experience, because if you love the Dual Shock 4, and want to play with it and see the Play station Prompts and use its features, Yes, then PS4 is where to play, since even though supported, the PS4 Controller on PC will show Xbox Prompts, so i get that, i truly get that, but all i’m saying is that PC is where to get The Best Visual Experience, not Gameplay Experience.

    • Big_Boss88

Lets all just be glad that PC players even get to play MGSV. That being said it sure does look damn beautiful on PC, but it also looks fantastic on PS4 :).

If TPP would release on PS4 and PC at the same time, I’m not sure which one I should buy first though. I love playing on console, but on PC too hmm I dunno lol :D. Always played MGS on PS so maybe that.

      • MichaelPayneV

I agree, except the First Part “Lets all just be glad that PC players even get to play MGSV” for the simple reason that the PC Release was hinted ever since PAX 2012, and especially during GDC 2013, when Hideo said “And this is running on PC right now!” which is not a thing that you can say as a Developer, if your Game is not coming to that Platform, because that would make a you a Error Inducing Troll, and Hideo is a Troll, but he never Lied about a Platform, so the PC Version was already “Unofficially” confirmed since GDC 2013, so the PC Version may very well be the Actual Lead Platform.

Before Fan-Boys Jump, i repeat, “May”

May = Probably Yes, and Probably Not.

        • Big_Boss88

Yeah I guess you’re right :D. Also I hope you didn’t take my first sentence in any wrong way, ’cause I was pretty tired when posted that lol 😉 .
